Old white men are furious with King Charles over his lack of Easter messages

Over the past week, there’s been a surprising number of “abolish the monarchy” social media posts from people I would consider to be conservative monarchists. It’s been really interesting to watch – these are old, white British men who have probably always supported the Windsors and diligently mocked and scorned Prince Harry and Meghan. What caused this sudden shift? As it turns out, these people were really angry that King Charles didn’t give them a special Easter message, via video or even a written statement. They’re correctly pointing out that Charles made a special statement recognizing Ramadan in February, but he didn’t do anything special for Easter besides go to church twice. They’re demanding MOAR Christianity from their king.

U.K. Christians are shocked by King Charles opting to not give an Easter message this year, according to several royal experts. Buckingham Palace previously confirmed that the king would not be giving an Easter message. The palace told GB News that an Easter message from the monarch is not an annual statement, like the Christmas message. It is expected that Charles’s silence would upset some Christians as he wished Islamic practicing people a “blessed and happy Ramadan” on social media in February.

Richard Fitzwilliams, a royal expert, told Fox News Digital that there has never been a royal tradition to put out an Easter message.

“Queen Elizabeth only gave one Easter message, during the COVID pandemic, which has justly become famous, as it was so beautifully crafted,” he said. “The king did give an Easter message last year and a Royal Maundy message in 2024.”

Still, royal commentator Neil Sean told Fox News Digital that this year’s decision “came as a shock to most U.K. Christians.”

“We expect a message from the Monarch,” said Sean. He added, “It’s not clear why he’s decided to not offer a message up, which is why the British people are angry… but more so when he made video contributions filmed inside Royal palaces for Eid and Ramadan.” Sean noted that Charles is being accused in the United Kingdom as being a “secret Muslim.”

The Royal Family Instagram, however, did share a message in honor of Easter Sunday. An image of a cross with “Happy Easter. He is risen!” was posted to the Royal Family Instagram page. The caption said: “Wishing you a joyous Easter Sunday to Christians celebrating in the UK, the Commonwealth and around the world today.”

Ian Pelham Turner, a royals expert, echoed Sean’s sentiments and explained that this was an easy way for Charles to start another scandal overseas.

“How do you turn a Royal drama into a crisis? Simply do not follow decades of tradition and decide not to write an Easter message even though King Charles is head of the Church and swore an oath at his Coronation to uphold the faith,” Turner said. “At a time when there are tensions in the country over the further evolution of Islam and the beliefs many believe that Charles is a closet Muslim add on to the fact that the newly ordained Archbishop of Canterbury is the first woman in centuries and this will cause controversy for her to deal with, it just leaves William no doubt to fulfill a plan already orchestrated to fill the gap,” he continued.

Fitzwilliams stressed that Charles’s decision not to give a message is not unusual. However, he believes skipping out on delivering an Easter message is “a mistake.”

“The king did give a special message to celebrate Ramadan this year. It would therefore surely have been appropriate to have delivered one for Easter, as the controversy over this is one which could and should have been avoided,” he noted. “The king’s contribution to inter-religious understanding over the years has been considerable, but the absence of a message celebrating the very special significance of this weekend, when one was delivered which celebrated Ramadan earlier in the year, is surely a mistake.”

The “secret Muslim” conspiracy is really unhinged. But I do have to ask: like, why not just write and post a statement ahead of Easter? Is it that big of a deal to just do the bare minimum, even if the “secret Muslim” conspiracy is stupid? If he’s going to recognize Ramadan and various Hindu holidays (the king sent out a Diwali message too, lmao), why not give the same exact energy to Christian holidays? I would imagine that Charles and his staff believe that his two church visits around Easter speak for themselves – he attended the Maundy service a week ago, and the Easter service on Sunday. And those do “count,” but again, why not just do the other thing, even if you think the criticism is idiotic?

Perhaps KCIII is simply preparing the royal subjects for William’s reign of Quiet Faith? 🤫

And yes, it’s weird when the head of the Church of England isn’t acknowledging Easter. Evidently palace comms have chosen a “half-in” approach when acknowledging holidays of the public!

LMFAO. The derangers are gonna derange.

Are Easter messages a tradition? I don’t recall Elizabeth II giving them. I believe that Charles once said that he wanted to be defender of all faiths. Either he gives a message on all other major faiths every year, or stick to CofE. Isn’t he against half-in half-out?

QE2’s first Easter message, AIUI, was in 2020, and it was a “stiff upper lip” message due to COVID.

I think this is the stupidest controversy. He went to church on Easter, quite visibly. The social media account did post a Happy Easter message (maybe if Charles had signed it this would have been avoided?) an annual Easter message isn’t a thing from the monarch.

And honestly. I think its a positive that he’s showing support for other religions that aren’t Christianity. I know it feeds into the narrative from the right that Christianity is under attack, but its doing just fine in the UK specifically. He may feel that other religions need more visible support right now.

This controversy is just bananas 🍌🍌🍌. I seriously doubt that “the British people are angry” about Charles not offering an Easter message. Maybe it got lost in the mail.

Fox news. Murdoch press, says it all.

    • Hypocrisy says:

So Murdoch is the “Old white man” they are referring to that is unhappy about no Easter message being posted on social media.. lol

I feel like this was an unforced error. He did put out messages for Ramadan and Eid. As Monarch he is the head of the Church Of England, so he really should have put out a message for Easter too. It’s a pretty important holiday in Christianity, lol. No, his mother didn’t usually do it. But then she didn’t do anything for Muslim holidays either.

The “Secret Muslim” conspiracy is nuts and people are getting too worked up about it. But yeah, he should have considered the optics. I mean, what is the point of having a monarchy at all if they are not going to make some noise about tradition? And England was traditionally a Christian country. By all means show support for other faiths. But dance with the one who brung you, as they say.

  8. BeanieBean says:

🤷‍♀️ I think his showing up for Maundy Thursday & Easter Sunday were enough displays of support for Christianity. I mean, if TQ didn’t do it, why should Charles?
