Sabrina Carpenter mentioned during her red carpet interview last night that her Dior gown by Jonathan Anderson was made of film strips. I thought she said the film was from the Audrey Hepburn movie Sabrina (1954), although I wondered if she meant her gown was based on one of Hepburn’s looks. It was film from the movie though. How did they accomplish that? Did they use actual old film? It’s possible to copy film to film so that’s likely what they did. That’s cool as hell. They should do a Met Gala theme of old Hollywood. A quick search tells me that they did this in 1974 with the theme “Romantic and Glamorous Hollywood Design.” She’s so cute.
Karlie Kloss was also in Dior, in a white bottom heavy gown which is supposed to look like a vase or pottery. As Kaiser described to me, it looks like a ball sack. It’s Karlie Kloss so we can say that. It’s actually a cool-looking gown but she’s still married to a Kushner. They all look evil to me.
Naomi Watts was also in Dior by Jonathan Anderson. This is more suited to the Garden of Time theme from a couple of years ago. Architectural digest says this is channeling Dutch painter Margareta Haverman’s 1716 work “A Vase of Flowers.” I think they’re just guessing though. I love her but she was looking a little Botoxy last night.
Chase Sui Wonders was in McQueen. She said on the red carpet that she’d just been to Pompeii and that the color was inspired by ancient paintings she saw there. (Giant one shoulder bows alwayss remind me of Charlize Theron’s 2006 Galliano Oscar gown.) Chase is so pretty and I love her energy. You know that Pete Davidson is trying to hit her up again. (I’m guessing! I have zero evidence of this, but he seems the type.)

LOVE Sabrina’s look — that’s how you do theme dressing.
It’s a clever concept!
I absolutely agree, this is great and spot on for the theme.
I loved Naomi Watts’ dress. Really beautiful, And Karlie’s dress. If you’re going to do basic, such as pure white, do something interesting with structure. I think she gets it right here. I loved the structure and hold of it. I saw ball sack and laughed. But still love it.
Sabrina is adorable. And in the same spirit as Cebitchy about Karli Kloss Kushner, she looks like she aged in the second picture. That will be my only mean-spirited comment today. She is a Kushner so the gloves are off.
But he’s the *good* Kushner! 🙄
He’s heavily invested in OpenAI and hangs with Altman so just as evil. The rich gotta get richer to hell with the consequences.
No such thing. And they socialize with the trumps.
Looking at Karlie’s outfit–particularly the colors of the shoes and the flowers–I’m thinking more & more everybody’s stylist/publicist were given photos of the venue design & the exhibit. Karlie’s green, white, and lilac match the background–that can’t have been by accident.
I’ve always had such face blindness when it comes to Kloss that I actually thought it was a different person until my brain registered the dress. I’d never be able to identify her at all w/o a caption.
And I also never realized her married initials until your comment. Yikes.
She also looks markedly different in these photos. I’m not sure what it is (the super bold eyebrow, maybe?) but you’d be forgiven for not immediately picking up that it was her
Okay, I love that there’s Sabrina film on Sabrina. Okay, this along with Chase, Emma, Sabrina, Anok, Ciara and Blue Ivy might be revised list of faves for the women. There were so many meh looks but the ones I liked, I really liked.
All beautiful looks!!
I LOVE Karlie’s dress, but on second thought it could be burrata…
I loved Sabrina’s look – paying homage to fashion and film at the same time. I think she’s just someone who fully embraces the theme at this event and always seems to have fun.
She and Stevie Nicks performed Landslide together!
Sabrina is adorable, and that’s such a great idea for a dress! And shout out to those hidden platform pumps. Your fellow shorty sees you, girl! 😂
Karlie looks like she’s wearing a fancy wasp’s nest. And her husband looks like such a dweeb. Pesky little brother in an ’80s sitcom vibes.
The best thing about Naomi’s look is the flowers in her hair. That vibrant pop of color looks lovely against her fair complexion.
Chase looks very pretty, I love that color on her. But does anyone else keep getting caught out by her name? Every time I see her name, I think that whatever I’m reading is an incomplete thought, forgetting that “Wonders” is actually a surname. I’m like, “OK, Chase Sui wonders…what? What is she so curious about?” Lol.
Sabrina’s headpiece also included the title card from Sabrina (1954), which adds to the cuteness!
Sabrina wearing “Sabrina”, the first film in which Audrey collaborated with Givenchy, and all of it on Audrey’s birthday! Sabrina wins the night. 👏👏👏
Absolutely adore Naomi‘s dress and hair, even if it is perhaps not quite on theme. Sabrina, so unique, it could have been some kind of dreadful project runway experiment, but it turned out stunning! Isn’t Pete Davidson now with someone else and just had a baby??
Sabrina and Chase both look fantastic!
Oh, that film dress has got to be uncomfortable, painful even. Those celluloid edges cutting into you every time you move? No thanks.
Karlie reminds me of Serena from the handmaid‘s Tale. Just saying.
