SZA wore an Emily Bode gown to the Met Gala made from saris purchased on eBay

SZA
I love seeing SZA on the red carpet. She seemed a little nervous in her interview with La La Anthony and that reminded me that she’s been open about feeling anxious at the Met Gala. She said that she hated her 2022 gown and that she snuck out the back to avoid being photographed. It’s got to be nerve wracking to be there. She was in a bright yellow gown that she co-designed with Emily Bode using saris they bought on eBay! This was apparently a sponcon as I saw ads during the ogue livestream for eBay using the story of this dress. Bode wrote on Instagram that this was inspired by “the Wiener Werkstätte, the turn-of-the-century Viennese art collective whose work advanced both the Art Deco and Art Nouveau movements.” This reminds me of the Alphonse Mucha exhibit I saw recently, although he lived in Paris and was Czech. I love it and it fits the theme perfectly.

Sarah Paulson was in a custom Matières Fécales gown, which is also known as Fecal Matter, which comes from their “One Percent” collection. I first read that on Twitter and thought it was someone taking the piss as they say, but it’s true. She wore a real $1 bill over her eyes, this is titled “blinded by money.” At least her gown doesn’t say “eat the rich.”

Cher was in Burberry, in a look that we’ve seen on her many times before. It turns out that’s by design as this is supposed to reference her sheer 1974 Bob Mackie gown. I’m not really seeing it.

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley was also in Burberry, in a gown that was supposed to be evocative of John Singer Sargent’s Portrait of Madame X. She did it way better than Lauren Sanchez! I love that Sanchez got bested by women wearing the same designer and in looks inspired by the same artwork, at the Gala she spent eight figures to attend. Somewhere Mackenzie Scott is wearing sweatpants and feeling free.

I do, too. Minus the bow and the money, which I fully appreciate are component parts of the statement. But I love the dark dove grey colour and the texture/structure.

    • BeanieBean says:

Y’all, really?! To me it looks like what oozed up from the overflow relief gully (ORG) at the edge of my yard. The ‘Fecal Matter’ people took their name a little too literally.

  2. jferber says:

Who is Rosie walking with? Why didn’t her partner show up for her? She has two kids with Jason Statham. Are they still together?

    • Bqm says:

Daniel Lee the Chief creative officer of Burberry Group. She and Jason are still together. Lee is in a relationship with ballet dancer Roberto Bolle.

Great to see Cher looking so good, as always. And I love SZA too.

  6. kirk says:

Kudos to SZA for her inventiveness in co-designing a beautiful gown that reuses existing clothing and absolutely hits the target of ‘fashion is art.’ Can’t even get mad about eBay sponcon when it’s such a clever way to use recycled fabric.

  7. Inge says:

    Love Sarah’s look

  8. BeanieBean says:

‘Fecal Matter’?! Oh, dear, well, that does explain the dress, alright.
