People: The Sussexes will ‘be back’ to Montecito, ‘it wasn’t a goodbye forever’

Fairly or unfairly, a narrative has really taken hold about the Sussex family’s move back to Britain. That narrative: Prince Harry has been miserable in California for years, and he’s basically forcing Meghan and the children to move to the UK for an indefinite period of time, with little in the way of guarantees of safety or protection across the board. What has surprised me is how even mainstream outlets like the Telegraph and People Magazine – two outlets which were given the exclusive about the Sussex Return – are running stories clearly sourced from Team Sussex on background, and those stories are breadcrumbing the idea that Meghan is not really all that supportive of this move. Speaking of, People Mag had another exclusive about Harry and Meghan’s “last weekend” in Montecito.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry spent their last weekend before their move to the U.K. with close friends. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex arrived in the U.K. on Wednesday, Aug. 26, just a week after PEOPLE revealed that they were relocating to Harry’s home country with their family for an extended period.

A source tells PEOPLE that Meghan, 45, and Harry, 41, left California early Tuesday evening, traveling by private jet to England with their children — Prince Archie, 7, and Princess Lilibet, 5 — and their dogs, Pula and Mia.

The source says that the couple spent their final weekend in Montecito with close friends, including friends of their children and Meghan’s mom, Doria Ragland.

“They wanted to spend time with the people they’re closest to before they left and for the kids to have some special time with friends,” the source says. “It wasn’t a goodbye forever. It was much more, ‘We’ll be back, but this is what we’re doing right now.’ “

The source adds that the family’s departure from California, where they settled in 2020 after stepping back from their roles as senior members of the royal family, was not without emotion.

“They’ve been planning this for some time, and they feel it’s the right thing for their family, but that doesn’t mean leaving was easy,” the source explains.

“Meghan really loves their life in Montecito and their home there. They know it’s going to take a little bit of time for everyone to settle in and adjust,” the source adds. “There’s excitement about what’s ahead too, especially for the kids. They’re really happy for them and for everything they’ll get to experience.”

The family plans to make a private, non-royal residence in the U.K. their home base for an extended period, with Archie and Lilibet starting school in Britain next month. They will also maintain their home in California and vacation property in Portugal. The couple is also not returning to royal roles, a crucial distinction for Meghan. In recent years, the Duchess of Sussex has spoken openly about feeling isolated and unhappy during her time as a working royal. Meghan and Harry have criticized both the British press and what they described as the royal institution’s failure to protect her.

“She has been vocal about how she felt about it before, but that doesn’t mean things are going to be exactly the same again,” an ally tells PEOPLE in this week’s cover story. “It doesn’t mean it can’t be different and can’t change.”

For Meghan, part of the appeal is what Britain can offer their children. “Meghan feels very fortunate that they’re able to give Archie and Lilibet the opportunity to experience both worlds,” says a Montecito insider. Meanwhile, a source says Harry “wants them to understand the world he grew up in and where their family comes from.”

[From People]

I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again: I think Meghan’s hope is that Harry gets all of this bulls–t out of his system. That if they all go back together and he sees what everything is *really* like there, he’ll stop romanticizing what was an extremely traumatic period of Meghan’s life (not to mention a traumatic period of Harry’s own life). “Meghan really loves their life in Montecito and their home there…” Exactly. Meghan is forward-looking, she had spent years carefully building a real life and support system for herself in California, she believed that she would run As Ever in the long-term. That’s where she needs to be, you know? Instead, she has to move back to a place where she was abused to the point of suicidal ideation, all so Harry can grow nostalgic and misty-eyed over getting drunk in The Ginger Wanker pub or whatever.

The Ginger Wanker pub or whatever looool. Honestly I feel for Meghan once again this just proves the men in that family get what they want. I don’t hope death for anyone but I really hope this is just for Charles, because if not this is just stupid and embarrassing. There’s no reason they can’t just buy a home in England and spend summer almost 2 months of the year, also Harry can if her wants visit every freaking month.

    • Shiela Kerr says:

Agree with you E.A. Says. To me that is an ideal solution. . Otherwise, I can see school years there but a return home upon completion of each school year

    • ApplesPie says:

My thoughts on the men in this family exactly! Meghan is a fully self-realized and capable modern woman who knows how to live her life, whereas Harry seems to be forever stuck, looking for the right place to be and dragging her (as living as supportive any woman can be) around with him. Wherever you go Harry, there you’ll be.

    • GMHQ says:

It is clear Harry and family will move to Salt Island so the kids and Chuck can develop a relationship and when Chuck goes so do the Sussexes. They have no intention of sticking around when Scooter is in the job…if he makes it that long without being locked away.

      • EllenOlenska says:

Well, hope they can stick it out ( since they chose to go) and do leave after KCIII does because if they leave any sooner the press will have a field day and the kids will be added to the mix. Just imagine how they still say Harry is dumb. Imagine what “ kids couldn’t cut it at superior British school system” will play out like in the press.

      • Jais says:

What’s interesting is that we don’t have a measure for what “sticking it out” looks like. Bc the Sussexes never made a more specific statement beyond “extended period of time”which I think is smart. Bc of course if they leave people will try and stay oh well they didn’t stick it out. Well they never said how long they would stay in the first place so there’s no set standard for them to be held to except for BM’s personal wishes that they stay longer. I do think staying at least one school year is enough to say they stuck around for an extended time. We don’t know what that means to them though and I think it has been vague on purpose. It could be a year it could be more and no they are not going to make an announcement and say one way or another, which would box them in.

      • GMHQ says:

The Brits keep comparing American public schools with British private schools. Actually American private day and boarding schools are comparable or better. Think Andover, Choate, Cheshire, Groton, Farmington and the likes.

      • Normades says:

This. I have many friends who are either now or were in the UK with their kids and say that the public school system was shite there.

      • Puff Updater says:

I don’t agree with any Harry hate whatsoever. The Ginger Wanker would be a much more fun pub to frequent than the Bald Wanker. We don’t know if this is a « nostalgic » move or some big leap forward. We don’t know what security they have in place. I doubt MI5 or 6 or whoever would fill John Q. Public in on all the deets just because We Care A Lot. Harry is a good guy with fine back muscles, not a cheating deadbeat abuser, and Meghan loves him.

      • Lawrenceville says:

Thank you, Puff Updater. The abuse toward Prince Harry from Sussex fans/supporters is very disheartening to say the least. I mean one can be unhappy about the decisions the Sussexes make/made without getting all abusive and calling Harry names, folks please do better. No one, except the Sussexes and their inner circle, knows what exactly made them decide to move back to the UK, we have absolutely none of any facts. We don’t know what Duchess Meghan agreed with or otherwise. We don’t even know if it was something she has wanted for her kids too or not. One thing I know is, these big decisions in many a family are made mutually, and I believe Harry and Meghan are on the same page on this. It’s so bizarre to me how people keep telling the tabloid rats to quit infantilizing Kate Middleton and then they themselves turn around and infantilize Duchess Meghan.

      • samipup says:

@Jais, from what I understand the terminology of private and public schools in Britain is different the US. Public school are the ones you pay big money for and private schools the free schools. Its the opposite of the US.

  2. Tessa says:

Charles caters to his spoiled elder son. Harry needs to be much more realistic. The scooters are not changing their attitude

  3. another cross to carry says:

I will always support the Sussexes. I trust them to make the best decision for their family. For me personally, I am not looking forward to what feels like going back to the past with the Brits. / tabs. Anyway, I am ready to clock in for my shift.

    • kirk says:

ITA “I trust them to make the best decision for their family.”

Meanwhile, my As Ever wine order (15 bottles for the price of 12) showed up yesterday without me having to argue with FedEx driver about scanning my ID 🥳 Yay!! Looking forward to comparing As Ever Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc with a couple other SB labels in the next 2 weeks before I hit the road. Some reviewers have said As Ever is less tart than other Marlborough styles, so we’ll see.

I keep reminding myself that “what feels like going back to the past with the Brits / tabs” may be very different this time around since they have no obligation to puff the monarchy. Hope they both achieve what they want for their family without taking a hiding from brittabloids or yakking heads, but the burden is on me to avoid the temptation to click on crap.

  4. Julie says:

I believe this have been planed long in advance and with not having security. They have practiced with success the stealth travelling for the past year and I’m pretty sure their residence and school searched for the last few months. Harry was in the UK a few times in the past years. They always wanted to live part time in the UK. Aren’t they simply executed their half in (the UK) half out. The difference been half given to earning income and the other half to charity work instead of working with the royals part time.
Of course Meghan is sad to temporary leave her US life behind, and so is Harry who have developed many projects with the military, the first responders and others. Having their children learning part of their culture on site is the greatest gift a parent can give to their children.
Family first is the Sussexes’s motto. The rest is noise.

    • Kingston says:

You’re too sensible for this site @Julie🤪

Don’t you know that you should be hysterical and do a henny-penny and berate H and infantilize M for doing what they said they intended to do for and with their family, which they spelt out in their official statement that they issued in 2020 when they announced their departure.

PS: the Statement is still available because chatgpt is your friend

PPS: this is the UK leg of their stated intention to “divide their time between the UK and North America.”

      • Julie says:

I had a good laugh reading your comment. Thank you. I can’t wait to see the work they will do in the UK and somehow pity the Wales because comparison will happen.

      • Eurydice says:

It’s not just infantilizing, it’s also ignoring the fact that H&M are people with advantages well beyond normal human beings. We only focus on the negatives of media pressures, but we ignore that they are very wealthy, very well connected and have the means to protect themselves.

    • Jais says:

Yeah, the idea that Meghan is doing this move just to appease Harry doesn’t make sense to me . I think she does want her kids to be able to grow up in both cultures and this is step one in making that happen. How it evolves from here we don’t know.

      • Brassy Rebel says:

She wants “her kids to be able to grow up in both cultures…” That may be the crux of their problem. Despite the (somewhat) common language and other similarities, there are basic differences in values between the two cultures. An important value in American culture, even in our current hellscape, is equality. But British culture remains very class based and not upwardly mobile in the same way. Americans overthrew the British monarchy. The British still cling to it. I’m not at all sure that these two cultures can ever be reconciled, much less in the minds and hearts of two small children. Cognitive dissonance is a thing.

      • Jais says:

I don’t know if those two cultures can be reconciled either. But many children come from two culture families and learn to embrace parts of each and reject other parts. They will not be the first.

      • Eurydice says:

@Brassy Rebel – The Sussexes are wealthy multi-nationals who can travel anywhere and live anywhere – and having their children learn that not every country is the same isn’t a bad thing.

      • Brassy Rebel says:

@Jais: they will be the first from the royal family expected to make these difficult adjustments. I’m not saying it’s impossible for kids to understand that these two cultures are not totally in alignment. But at their young age when important lessons about values and what their parents believe are being absorbed, it will be one more challenge for them to navigate and to figure out what their own values are or should be.

      • Jais says:

Yes, it will be another challenge for them. They are already unique as the first in their line to be mixed race. They will always be unique and perceived by the public and there is no escaping that. Harry and Meghan have no doubt given them a solid foundation for the past 7 years and will continue to do so. Do I have concerns? Ofc. But I think Meghan and Harry both are loving and attentive parents and want to raise resilient and kind kids. Unfortunately they cannot be bubble wrapped from the fact that they are grandchildren of the king, whether they’re in Cali or the uk.

      • windyriver says:

@Jais – you’ve made some good points just above – that Archie and Lili are already unique being mixed race in this environment, but also, they’re grandchildren of the king, no matter where they live, something kids in Montecito likely are well aware of.

Last year, we saw Archie and Lili join H&M preparing Thanksgiving meals for the local LA community. Recently, we learned they were involved when Harry redirected money from the Diana fund to Elephants Without Borders. Clearly H&M feel they’re not too young to begin learning about the larger world around them, to be exposed to new situations, to start asking questions, and develop their own ideas and values. This planned time in the UK feels like part and parcel of that education. I don’t see why learning there are differences between US and UK cultures presents a problem. And this is the time to begin this – while Charles is still king, and while he appears in reasonable health.

    • Nlopez says:

Bravo Julie👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽. I agree with you 100 percent!

  5. Louise177 says:

I think it will be bad but better than before for Meghan. She doesn’t have to deal with the Royal system, courtiers, and Harry’s family. That was where most of the problems came from. I think it will only be for a year. I think the media will be a huge problem for them. And I hope I’m wrong but I feel the kids will be harassed and bullied. I really don’t understand this situation. I just wish they would explain the move.

    • Brassy Rebel says:

The media environment in the UK is so toxic that there is no way the children’s school mates will not have absorbed some of the narratives. I have brought this up before and been assured that the school will handle that and protect the Sussex kids. I don’t doubt the school will try but kids interact without adult supervision some of the time. It’s going to require constant vigilance in the part of the school administrators. I don’t envy their task.

      • Yvette says:

@Brassy Rebel … And you don’t think the Sussex kids’ school mates in Montecito have absorbed some of the narratives? Those kids’ parents discuss it at home as well, for good or ill.

I don’t understand the issue. Harry wants his children to experience a bit about where he is from and their heritage from his side of the family. It will be toxic, but not as toxic as before because they’re no longer working royals or receiving British tax payer funds and no one can demand access to them.

Harry and Meghan have deliberately chosen an area to live where Americans have also bought homes so it won’t really be such a strange new world for Archie and Lily. It seems to me that Harry and Meghan have obviously put some thought into this move.

It is also possible that Archie and Lily have intense curiosity about where their Papa is from and why he talks differently. They are, for the time being, 6th and 7th in the line of succession for the Btritish Throne. Living in the UK 🇬🇧 for a year or two could be a good experience for them.

        And Charles has cancer.

      • Brassy Rebel says:

@Yvette: I don’t think the British tabloids or their YouTube channels are under much discussion in Montecito. We have toxic Fox News but they’re not consumed 24/7 with the British royals. Yes, it could be a good experience for them. Or it could go badly as it did for their mum the first time. Only time will tell.

      • Yvette says:

@Brassy Rebel … The British tabloids have made it their mission in life to ensure that toxic coverage of the Sussexes reaches the American public. Shortly after the Sussexes established themselves in Montecito, British tabloids who didn’t already have U.S. editions quickly established them.

And if Montecito-based parents don’t follow U.S. editions of British tabloids, they absolutely read the Hollywood Reporter and Variety; whose British adjacent editors and reporters/opinion piece writers parrot old articles and information related to the Sussexes from the British tabloids, and current royal rota ‘sources’.

    • Ginger says:

She is married to Prince Harry so she will be dealing with them in some way or another. Not as a working royal but as a wife. With them living in the UK she will deal with it more. Plus, I wouldn’t doubt if Harry goes back to royal duties part time to “help out”

      • Over it says:

Well i hope he doesn’t go back to help out because why ? That a betrayal of his wife and children and himself. The Windsors to this very day have done absolutely nothing to protect Harry, Meghan and their children. No security and if you listen to Neil Basu I think that’s his name , The buck stops with Charles . So to go back to people who did nothing to stop the pain your wife experienced and took away your house and security and had no money to pay for your wife and asked her not to come to balmoral. Well I would have no words for that. It would be beyond dumb and selfish . Also I wish people who claim to be such supporters of Harry and Meghan and I don’t mean you personally, but I have .heard some Sussex friendly YouTube channels say the same thing and I don’t understand why anyone would want that for Harry . That would bring so much pain to Meghan. It would be like Harry choosing those awful people over her and their children. Plus can I also say why would Harry and I don’t know this but I am asking why would he want to hang out with the same crowd that insulted Meghan when she called them out on their bigotry and racism.
Maybe I am projecting but I saw Meghan latest post in her garden enjoying the last days of summer and I think it might be the first time I haven’t seen her smile in these pictures. However this could all be my imagination because I really really wish they would just visit the uk in the summer and keep their family safe and happy in California.

      • Ginger says:

I definitely don’t want Harry to go back to royal duties but I wouldn’t be surprised if he does. I never thought they would move back for a period of time giving all that they have said (Harry mostly) so anything is possible. And some supporters also feel the same. It’s not that we want it to happen we just won’t be surprised.

    • sunniside up says:

The best security is privacy. I hope the press will not disclose their whereabouts, , but at least they have promised to leave the children alone. Not because of Meghan and Harry but because of the agreement with the King. We only hear about the Wales children at public events.

      • tc says:

Charles will go back on whatever agreement he has the second he needs a bad story about himself buried, let’s be real.

  6. Mads says:

I just hope that the school doesn’t expect boys to wear shorts all year, poor Archie 😩.

    • Puff Updater says:

Shorts should be prohibited for men of all ages.

      • Jais says:

Umm I am a proponent of shorts on anyone when it’s hot as hell outside, lmao. Shorts in winter, no ofc not. But when it’s hot, bring on the shorts, shorts for all.

      • Robert Wright says:

        @Puff Updater,
Try living in Palm Springs where weather temps exceed 120 Fahrenheit and then think about the shorts on men. And in general, why would you think it acceptable to police what clothes men wear? If it is not appropriate to police women’s clothing choices why would it be acceptable to police men’s? And what could possibly be the reason you dislike men in shorts anyway? That’s just weird.

      • Puff Updater says:

Dear Robert, it was a joke. I’m sorry that you were offended by my lame attempt at online levity, I forgot to /s. I live in the MidWest where men wear cargo shorts in subzero temps, and are proud of that, and « men in shorts jokes » are common. But if you own a pair of salmon colored shorts, I rescind this apology.

    • Thinking says:

I think they’d probably only wear shorts when they’re in primary school. But even then, I think you’d be allowed to wear trousers in winter months.

I don’t think William and Harry were in uniform shorts all year round when they were teenagers or in secondary/high school.

  7. Denise says:

I’m an expat, living in another country for 12 years now. Am I missing home? Yes, absolutely. Did I have crisis and wanted to move back? Absolutely! But whenever I would put facts in front of me, I realised I moved away for a reason and I have a better life abroad. I would visit my home country a bit more often when I missed it and soon enough I would realise, after novelty and welcomes wear off, that I moved away for a reason.
Also, I don’t have kids and my reasons for moving away aren’t as serious as Harry’s. My partner wasn’t suicidal in our home country, my family relationships are good and there is no hate campaign against my partner in our home country. Our security and our lives are not in danger, every time we visit.
I’m sorry but as an expat and someone who’s been through enormous amount of nostalgia, Harry just seems immature and naive to me. To move your family back, where they don’t want them and whey they are hated and attacked on a daily basis, just because you miss your home country, it’s incredibly selfish. I really wish them luck, I do. But this really lowered my opinion of Harry tremendously. I hope Meghan finds a really good support system in UK.

P.S. my parent was also sick while I’m living abroad and she died. I was visiting more often, made sure she has the support she needs but I didn’t move back. It was a hard decision but hard decisions need to be made in life.

    • ApplesPie says:

Curious, if you are planning to go back home eventually and that’s why you call yourself an expat as opposed to an immigrant? I’ve moved to another country and consider myself an immigrant because I’m not going back.

      • Deborah1 says:

Yes, “expat” is an oft-abused word. I’ve had the same experiences as Denise but I have lived in another country now for more than 50 years. ‘Expat’ implies temporary, ‘Immigrant’ is permanent, which is what I am. I also went through a period of homesickness and my mother dying in my country of birth which was an extremely stressful period of my life but I stuck it out in my adopted country. I do not blame Harry for wanting to move back to the U.K. for an “extended period of time” and suspect that his father’s illness and the political situation in the USA has been a large factor in that decision. I just hope it works out for H&M.

    • Amy Bee says:

I agree with you about Harry’s lack of maturity and naivety. His immediate family should be enough for him to have a happy life. His inability to see that is a problem and I agree if he has an urge to see his old friends he can just fly over. Perhaps now that they have a base in the UK he can do that. I do think he lacks a true purpose, identity or any ambition and that’s why he felt that he had to move back to the UK.

      • tamsin says:

@Amy Bee “I do think he lacks a true purpose, identity or any ambition and that’s why he felt that he had to move back to the UK.”

I can’t agree with this. I think Harry is purpose driven. Sentebale, Invictus, Travelyst are three examples. Except for Sentebale, which was vulnerable, he has found a way to work with these organizations outside the royal sphere. This was possible because he did enough work that was impactful that he had influence and recognition as himself, although his position gave him the the wherewithal to start with. Harry can’t put aside his identity as a prince though, and I think he will always feel torn. That’s just his lot in life.

    • Ginger says:

Completely agree with you, Denise. My opinion of Harry has definitely been lowered with all of this. Especially with the whole security mess.

      • mightymolly says:

I just don’t even know what to think any more. I was also shocked by Joe Jonas and Brad Bitt, both of whom I thought were good guys who truly loved and valued their wives. I’m not saying this is the same thing at all. Every situation is different and I still believe Harry and Meghan are the real thing, but I also can’t understand how the same person who wrote Spare and gave that interview with Oprah is dragging his wife and children into the lion’s den.

    • Kingston says:

Keeping fingers crossed 🤞🏼that you will still use this nic when you return to eat your words when further and better particulars are known about H&M’s family-move to the uk

      • Sid says:

        ITA Kingston, ITA.

      • Puff Updater says:

I hope you know something we don’t @Kingston.

      • Denise says:

@Kingston I have this nick for more than 5 years. And yes, I’m happy to admit when I’m wrong. Even more, I would be delighted to be wrong in this case. This isn’t a fun little debate for me, on a fun gossip site. These are people’s lives who are, in my humble opinion, in danger now. I really really really do hope that I’m wrong and will be delighted to admit that.

    • bluhare says:

I am English and have lived in the US most of my life. My life is here. But I never got citizenship here and the older I get the more I feel the call of home, even though the US has been my home. So I understand Harry and missing England.

  8. Brassy Rebel says:

Meghan has a better idea now what it means to be a British aristocrat. I continue to doubt that she is eager for her kids to experience that life for an extended period of time. And does she want those children to have a British aristo education as we now know Harry hopes they do? Big questions. As of now, few answers.

    • Mfs says:

I agree with all of this. Some people are saying: “But maybe the king is dying!” Sorry, I still don’t think that’s a good reason to risk your wife’s and children’s safety and well-being. Besides, if the king wanted to make the UK safer for Harry’s family, he could—he has intentionally chosen not to.

    • Hypocrisy says:

Yes she has a better idea of what to expect but I think many of us equate her return to England with an abused spouse returning to their abuser.. they know what to expect also and knowing what to expect doesn’t make the punches and insults hurt less because you knew what would happen.. in this case the abusers are the Monarchy and tabloid media/press not a spouse.. I just hope that she and the children are okay.

  9. Lili says:

Today i can chuckle about this move “the ginger Wanker Pub” he needs to grow up and get that worm out of his ear telling him everything is going to be fine, because from where i’m looking the abuse on his wife has increased 10fold and does not look to be letting up soon and regardless of what legal blocks he has put in place the rats will circumvent it and it will be round the globe in10.5 seconds and they will hold up their hands and say oops. so i really hope it was immigration issues, he is securing invictus for the future ,or Charles is sicker than we know. but if his dad is planning a trip in october i doubt he is really too sick

  10. Amy Bee says:

Let’s hope that Harry realizes that he’s better off living in the US. If he’s hoping for a better relationship with his father, he’s not going to get that. He will stiill have to make an appointment to see Charles and he won’t have more than 45 minutes with him. I hope Harry and Meghan’s marriage can survive this move but I’m very doubtful, unfortunately.

  11. Snuffles says:

We don’t know what we don’t know. All we can do is speculate.

My feeling is, the two main reasons for the return are Charles’s health and Invictus Games. And to spend time with the Spencer family and Windsor cousins not beholden to the Crown.

  12. duchess of hazard says:

Couldn’t Harry have come back alone and left his family behind if he wanted to do the Invictus Games and speak to them over Zoom?

I am genuinely trying to see how this move benefits their family unless they want their children to speak with cut-glass home county accents instead of American ones.

    • Brassy Rebel says:

I suspect that Harry is bothered by the kids American accents and just their “Americanness” in general. I do think that is part of what’s going on here. I keep coming back to the fact he was raised as a British royal. It’s literally part of his DNA 🧬.

      • E.A says:

Then he shouldn’t have marry an American, I really hope this is not the case. If you don’t want your children to sound like your wife why marry her, very insulting.

      • Amy Bee says:

@Brassy rebel: If this is true, he’s no different than the rest of the Royal Family and he still has some deconstructing to do. It’s very worrying if he truly believes this and can be damaging for his children and marriage.

      • Brassy Rebel says:

It’s obvious that he has trouble imagining, much less building, a life that is not at least royal adjacent. I do wonder if he still has a trusted therapist who can help him see he doesn’t have to be about that life. This is a man with so much potential to do good and has already done good. But it’s his life and not mine. Good luck 🤞 to him and the family he and Meghan have created.

      • sunniside up says:

The children will probably grow up to by-lingual, My husband the son of a Scottish mum and a English dad was taken to Australia when he was 8 as part of his father’s work. He came back to Britain when he was about 20, He now speaks broad Scots when north of the border, English when in England and Australian when it suits him.

      • duchess of hazard says:

Then he shouldn’t have marry an American, I really hope this is not the case. If you don’t want your children to sound like your wife why marry her, very insulting.

When he got married to Meghan, Harry envisioned them living in the UK and playing happy families, and their children speaking and sounding like him (British, home counties accent). Going to America was only the plan when England went terribly wrong.

      • Normades says:

That’s called being bidialectal. Gillian Anderson is an example. I have a friend who is from the US but her husband is English and their kids are having spent almost equal time in the 2 countries.

      • Brassy Rebel says:

The circumstances have changed so much for them since the day they made their vows. All that has happened to each of them alone and together. I think it’s naive for us to think there hasn’t been strain on the marriage in various ways. It doesn’t mean the marriage is in danger. It could be stronger after being tested. But I’m sure they have had to weather some stresses they never anticipated. And, yes, all marriages have stresses and strains but not like these.

      • Donety says:

And what are you basing Harry’s supposed opposition to American accents and “Americanness” in general? This is what’s been reported in the tabloids and either you have a direct line to Harry or you’ve decided that the British media does. I get that you can’t wrap your brain around Meghan being fully on-board with the move, but at what point are you going to stop offering excuses for Harry?

      • Brassy Rebel says:

I’m speculating and surmising from what we know about Harry like literally everyone else commenting here. Could I be wrong? Of course!

  13. Becks1 says:

I said this last week but my guess is if they had been allowed to keep frogmore, this move might not have happened bc the kids would have been able to spend expended periods in the UK much more easily since Frogmore had privacy and security. They could have gone for a month over the summers using it as a home base.

I do think they’ll move back to California. I can see why both of them – Harry more so than Meghan obviously – may want to see what life in England is like without being under the control of the Firm. Remember even in January 2020 their plan was to live in England at least half the year.

And if things are better than before than good for them. If they’re not then hopefully they make the choice that is best for their family.

This article does make it sound like they are on the same page that this is for the kids so they can experience life in England. I think it’s natural that Meghan has some trepidation about moving back but let’s hope it goes well for them.

And let’s continue to enjoy the crash out from KP lol

    • Eurydice says:

Yes, I’m here for the KP crash out. And really, H&M are travelers. Meghan has always been interested in traveling and they’ve done a lot while based in Montecito. Plus, they bought a home in Portugal. I can see them deciding to give the UK a try – they’re rich, independent, have their own work and interests and the kids will benefit from seeing another country. And if it doesn’t work, they can always leave.

    • Jais says:

As ever, I’m with you on this. It doesn’t feel out of line with anything they’ve said in the past. I’ll be curious to see how it goes and remain hopeful. The KP crashout will be interesting. So far, I haven’t noticed too many articles saying how perfect Kate and William are in comparison, never putting a foot wrong etc. Maybe those articles will come or there are some already out there but that’s not the consensus i’m getting. The wales have spent the past year frustrating the BM and giving them next to nothing. So I’m thinking they are not going to be exalted to kingdom come like they have in the past but maybe I’m wrong on that. But the BM has to see that over glazing them for doing next to nothing has not worked out very well.

      • Eurydice says:

There was a piece yesterday, I think in the NY Post, about why Brits should welcome H&M back. It was full of the usual vitriol against H&M, but also explicitly said Brits should be happy because this will force W&M to do some work.

      • Jais says:

It’s somewhat hilarious how nearly everyone is in agreement that this will force the Wales to work…essentially admitting that they no do not do much work. And when they do, it feels as if they’re doing it through gritted teeth and deep huffs, like they’re saying, here damn.

    • windyriver says:

Meghan’s love of travel is one point not mentioned this last week. High profile trips like Nigeria and Columbia aren’t “travel” in the same way. The last six years for H&M were about establishing a solid foundation for Archie and Lili. Now they’re old enough for the family to have flexibility moving around, more than they’ll have when the children are older. I can see travel loving Meghan interested in living in England again – which was always the plan – and Harry curious what it’s like being there in a private capacity. I agree a commitment to the children is a big factor in their willingness to be there, despite the painful past. But Harry too, has just spent six years establishing a foundation – in California, a place he’s said Diana considered for herself. He looked pretty happy in those surfing videos. We’ll see where they are in a year.

But I think too Invictus Birmingham is important to Harry, more significant than recent IG elsewhere, and that’s part of the decision to be on the ground in the UK this year – especially as there’s a veteran focused commercial organization he’s putting together. The IG started in the UK. Whether or not Will is playing games behind the scenes, or changes in government affected support for the games, we’ve been told Birmingham is the staging area for returning soldiers beginning their recovery, which clearly means a lot to him and people he knows.

Flexibility is the difference between now, and the before times. If this UK trial doesn’t work out, this time they have the all the resources they need to change their plans.

      • Jais says:

Absolutely. Cannot imagine that Meghan doesn’t want her kids to be intrepid travellers who are both resilient and kind, like herself.

  14. Gemini says:

I trust Meghan’s judgement. I don’t think she is moving to the UK for an extended period to nurse H’s nostalgia. It is about the kids and Meghan is making a choice as a strong mom. She has advocated for her children to have their birthright titles during a time she was still very angry at the Royal family and she was not fully healed from her ordeal at their hands. Because she understands how the world works, how much being in the right circles matter, how you claim your power, how you claim a future path for your kids. Her kids are prince and princess of the UK Royal family. She will give them the tools to build on that status. British education is part of the status recognized worldwide. Maybe they planed an Ivy League university for the kids after a British schooling period. She will also make sure her children use their privilege, status, royalty for good. This is why she is taking a leap of faith.

Also, People mag and others sandwich real Sussex source quotes with unnamed sources that play into this narrative of unhappy Harry, unwilling Meghan, to give this narrative validity. It doesn’t come from Sussex sources. Harry and Meghan talk to each other, they do not need to send each other messages via unnamed sources.

    • Ciotog says:

I do think that Meghan herself moved between her mother’s world and her father’s, and understands that her own kids can get the benefits of being bicultural. I remain concerned that she and the kids are walking into a buzzsaw.

    • Kingston says:

You’re too sensible for this site @Gemini

    • Puff Updater says:

Well said, Gemini. They are both optimistic people, and what seems like naivety to outside observers can actually be part of a Grand Plan. If they didn’t bring the kids back now perhaps there would be no way for them to experience British culture from the inside later on. I can’t imagine actually wanting to experience Salt Island up close and personally but H&M must think there is some benefit to be had. Neither one of them is an iconoclast.

  15. JMOney says:

If this was in The Daily Mail or Us Weekly I say take it with a grain of salt. However the fact its People reporting this exclusive there’s def truth to it.

Harry never got used to living in the US. I know he talked about it early on surfing, hiking and walking to the beach but literally that’s it. He doesn’t have business acumen or experience so who is legit going to take him on except to be a brand sponsor and even then I don’t think he has that many opportunities again b/c that’s not his rep or experience. The only thing he knows how to do and can do well is be a “prince” which you can’t do in the US. My guess is he wants his kids to have that royal adjacent link not that they’ll be working royals but to help their brand when they get older. Plus he grew up with family and seeing his kids not grow up with cousins in the same way he is, he prob felt they were “missing out” on something.

By contrast, Meghan loves her life in Montecito. She created a business and has her mother near(ish) (I respect her mom still lives in LA and has her own life) and her friends. In the UK she has no family, no close friends (or maybe she does who really knows).

Where Harry and Meghan wants to live and find sense of purpose (outside of their nuclear family) is the exact opposite of each other. Many British and American couples don’t make it long term in part b/c they can’t decide where to live.

I don’t want them to break up , I genuinely hope this move works out for them but I can see this being a real challenge for them. Love is not enough (it never has been) and one thing is for certain, the fact no one saw this coming goes to show we really don’t know what’s going behind the scenes.

    • Gail says:

Better Up has offices in London. Harry has work to do. Being a prince is not the only thing he know how to do. He’s grown. But yes, understandably, Harry, as a Prince of the United Kingdom, wants his kids to know their heritage.

      • JMOney says:

Respectfully, what is he going to to with Better Up? When was the last time he was seen or heard working with that company in the last year or two?

      • Jais says:

Respectfully, I don’t know what he is going to do or is currently doing with betterup. That would be a question for the ceo that presumably still pays him.

      • Eurydice says:

@JMOney – Let’s be honest, when have we heard anything at all about Better Up as a company or about any of its officers? I mean, it’s a known company that’s conducting its business, but not something that makes the news.

    • Sid says:

The days of People magazine being a trustworthy magazine because they were the official go-to for celebrities’ PR teams are long over. I take everything they publish with a huge grain of salt. Like a number of other US magazines/ newspapers, once that British E-I-C was brought in, that was the end.

      • JMOney says:

People got the exclusive on The Suessexes moving back. A number of celebs still use People to confirm their break ups or relationships. While I understand the skepticism and its healthy to have it for all media, that doesn’t mean in this instance they are wrong

      • ChillinginDC says:

They’ve also gone on the record to People before. Come on now. This isn’t People making up stuff. This is people and some of their friends talking to People.

      • Jais says:

People does have sources from the Sussexes and that’s clear. No argument there. But People mag also weaves those sourced statements in with other statements and comments that are not necessarily from the Sussexes but made to appear so. Thus an article can have some true parts but not every single part of it is from the Sussexes. Feels like that’s pretty clear. Not to the gp but to most gossip afficainados. So saying the Sussexes briefed People does not mean that as you read it, and discern carefully, that every single part of it represents the Sussexes pov.

  16. Jes says:

I am wondering if it was future planning for visa requirements leaving optionality for us and uk. Invictus and his fathers health and the window before william takes over being the impetus additionally. In this most generous interpretation, I can see Meghan being on board with a time bound move. And also them not sharing any details of the why and the time bounding either.

  17. Over it says:

On another note, do you know what I keep gleefully hoping, that if the rumors are true and Harry and Meghan have indeed pursued a huge house in England, that they used the Money from Harry lawsuit to the Sun to do it . That would be sweet justice

    • Jais says:

That would be sweet. On another note, I missed out on the apple butter so if anyone can give a taste review when theirs arrives, much appreciated. I restocked on blackberry right before the apple butter drop so didn’t feel like buying again right away and am now bummed.

      • WaterDragon says:

Jais, I have 3 jars on the way so I will let you know when I have a chance to review. They must have just sold out because they were in stock yesterday. I like the blackberry okay, but it seemed rather runny, almost like a syrup.

      • windyriver says:

Oh that’s interesting. I didn’t care that much about the apple butter and figured it would be around for a while, so didn’t notice it was sold out. On the other hand, I see the blackberry is also sold out; despite seeing a note that it was a limited edition when it was introduced, it’s been around for a few weeks and I thought (hoped) it might become a regular like the raspberry. Fortunately, like you, I already restocked. I hope we’re not in for a rash of media reviews about apple butter, that was pretty tiresome…

  18. Teddy says:

I wonder if Harry can truly understand what Meghan helped them achieve, what she built from scratch, in California? Just being able to own that lovely house and glorious property in Montecito is remarkable. She created and expanded the Netflix relationship, turned her lifestyle preferences into a thriving business, and has built a robust fan base. And now she’s had to give up her home and, just as As Ever gained real momentum, must try to guide it from an ocean away. Also, like it or not, Archie and Lili are American kids. This isn’t going to be easy for them. I genuinely hope this is just for a year or maybe two and then out. I hope Harry can understand what he’s risking.

    • Ginger says:

The ones I really feel for are the kids. It will definitely be a huge adjustment for them, having to leave their friends and activities, etc. I hope they adjust well and that they get left alone.

  19. MaisiesMom says:

    The Ginger Wanker Pub, lmao.

I get being nostalgic for home, even physically longing for it and feeling unmoored. And I only moved across the country, not across an ocean to a new one. It has to have been weird for Harry, who grew up in a world where his grandmother was literally on the money, to land in California. But this is going to be a tough move too.

I wish them and the kids the best.

    • Over it says:

Kaiser pub name is funny as hell 😄😄😄. But on a serious note, I think Meghan loves Harry beyond reason because what do you mean we came to this decision as a couple, . Like I am not them obviously and have never met them but I am telling you there is absolutely no way I would have gone back to live in a country where I was so close to ending it especially considering I don’t have security. I want people to understand that . They have no police protection and just this week we heard Chris ship say that on national television. Plus all these other rota rats telling the world where in England they bought a house and tom sicko going so far as he dare to tell people the general area. I failed to see how this ends on a happy note

  20. Tuesday says:

Meghan is not a child with no agency. Saying she’s being forced to go back really doesn’t make her sound as good as people here seem to think. They both made a decision to move back to that vipers nest. Let’s not infantilize her.

    • Ginger says:

I agree. They both made this decision and Meghan can and does make her own decisions. The ones I really feel for are the kids. I hope they get left alone and adjust ok.

    • Jais says:

It’s not meant to make her look good. It is a critique of her. And that’s fine. No one is obligated to glaze or support all decisions of anyone. But just tbc, it is meant as a critique of her.

  21. Miranda says:

At this point, the impression that I get is that Meghan genuinely is onboard with all of this. She’s not stupid or naive, so she must be well aware of the inevitable rotted tabloid coverage, but believes that she is much better equipped to handle all of that. The fact that she’s found so much success since leaving the UK probably plays a big role, as she now has an exit strategy and the means to provide (pretty lavishly) for her family if it comes to that. And it doesn’t seem unreasonable to believe that she could want her kids to enjoy some of the advantages that their royal status might provide in the UK, while they still can before William becomes king. I think that many of us, especially Americans, made the mistake of projecting our own anti-monarchy sentiments onto her, forgetting that she was initially enthusiastic and all-in on royal life, and likely would’ve remained so if the BM hadn’t gone completely off the rails. That doesn’t mean she’s just a gold digger/social climber/general bad person. There’s plenty of room on the spectrum between “I wouldn’t care if he lived in a van down by the river, I’m just in it for true love!” and “determined stalker groomed to lock down a prince”.

  22. 🐝 Bee says:

In addition, could they be establishing residency and citizenship for the children, especially since Lilibet was born in the US?

    • Normades says:

This is my thought too. I can’t help but think there is something administrative or financially beneficial in this move. H & M have proven that they have been smart in their investments and throwing down roots in the UK could be a part of their chess game

      • Donety says:

The ‘financially beneficial’ angle plays into the notion that they’re doing this for money, an idea that inexplicably irritates a lot of people. It has nothing to do with their current net worth (which no one knows for sure) but the bottom line is that Harry and Meghan do NOT have f-u wealth. Either separately or as a couple, the Sussexes still need to make money and if moving to the UK increases their revenue stream, I think a lot of people are going to have retract their statements about Harry & Meghan being above accepting UK income.

      • Normades says:

@donety: I completely agree and this wasn’t a dig on H & M. We all make such decisions in life.

  23. K8erade says:

So I may have people incredibly unhappy with what I’m about to say but I read this as Meghan is giving Harry a year in the UK but that she is taking herself and the kids back to California at the end of the year period with or without Harry.

    • MaisiesMom says:

I do think that’s possible, if only because we seem to have been hearing conflicting reports. One says this is a 12-15 year plan, the other that they don’t know how long they’ll stay and it might only be six months. But who knows what the source of those reports are? They do know how move stealthily and surprise people.

    • Amy Bee says:

That’s the impression I’m getting too.

      • Lady Digby says:

I think they just don’t know how things will pan out here too many known knowns eg implacable press, and unknowns eg security, relationship with Charles, isolation or acceptance socially and publicly, how will each family member adapt to UK. Meg and Harry are adults who love each other and their love has withstood much trauma imposed by outside world. They have each other to love and consider what is right for them as a couple and family. If neither child settles nor Meghan and then Harry sees the reality doesn’t match up the fantasy of a successful return then they will all return to US sunshine.

  24. fwiw says:

Having a private plane to take the family, including canines, and the stuff they would have had to ship, all at once and overnight with beds for sleeping really made this move very private. If it is true that Ian Wace provided the plane, then again, as with Tyler Perry, someone has stepped in to help when Charles would not. Not only has he not helped, he harmed–pulling their security, the year of financial support, & the queen’s gift of Frogmore.

    • MaisiesMom says:

Who is Ian Wace? Who is saying he helped them?

      • Eurydice says:

He’s the billionaire hedge fund guy who owns the island where the Sussexes stayed for part of their trip in July.

    • Lady Digby says:

@FWIW agreed 💯 none of this was necessary if CHARLES had supported his son and daughter in law from the moment they got engaged. Instead other people like Tyler and Ian stepped into help with practical support: accommodation and protection. I mean WFT is going on with Charles he’s loaded, he a man with a reputation to maintain and I keep being told he’s a kindly man!? Harry is his son ( he only has two) how can he with any credit have mucked up his duty of care so badly? He’s the only surviving parent and yet he constructively dismissed him and Meghan yanking away housing, money, security and even set the press dogs on the them HARDER. Now they are back with Charles be tepid and just as unavailable with a grudging one off meeting for PR purposes when shamed into doing so like he was in July. There’s been understandably wide spread consternation of their return because to us onlookers there is a lot of ongoing abuse and neglect from Charles. I wish them all the best with the relocation but the past and recent pattern of rejection and letting them down by Charles does not bode well.

    • tamsin says:

The plane was a charter from a charter company. It appears that Wace showed them his island because it has some connection to veterans. They obviously needed Tyler’s help. They are clearly independently wealthy now. I think the Sussexes, certainly Meghan, is someone who pays her own way and repays all her debts. Remember the dream of the Monarchy and the BM is that Harry and Meghan return to England broke and broken. Obviously not. They move like people with power and influence, and money.

  25. Chaine says:

IDK to the extent I’ve been invested in Harry and his quests and struggles, watching the whole dramatic return to his pain point is just… like why did I care so much about these people? I’m too old for this 🤷🏻

  26. ChillinginDC says:

Shrugs. I mean they came back with no security guarantees. That’s a fact. I wouldn’t have done it before that was actually agreed to which is why Harry did freak out about the whole RAVEC thing. He didn’t know it was paused, they thought it was going to be done soon. I do hope they are prepared to be told they and the children are not going to get guaranteed security and it’s going to be done on a case by case basis. I hope I am wrong on that one though.

And as Brassy Rebel keeps saying, there is going to be more tension now because Harry is going to be out and about visiting his charities and I won’t be shocked if he starts interacting with his former patronages too. You eventually are going to get the Windsor clan hitting back at them. And now they are back on their home turf. It is going to be worse than last time. That’s just a fact.

    • Lady Digby says:

@Chillingin DC very good point about Harry’s former patronages. What if various charities got excited about what Harry has to offer and wants him back as their patron. Anyone know if The Firm could claim conflict of interest and actively prevent him or in any way restrict his charitable work in UK? Surely RF don’t have the monopoly on charity work in UK or do they!?

      • Brassy Rebel says:

The British royals certainly seem to think they have a monopoly on UK charities. I made this point in the other thread about W&K crashing out over the Sussex return. They regard charity work as royal work. And Harry is supposed to be a non-working royal.

    • IdlesAtCranky says:

      @ChillingInDC

You said “I mean they came back with no security guarantees. That’s a fact.”

How do you know this to be true?

As far as I’m aware, all that we know is that there has been no public statement about their security. Not from them & not from the UK government or anyone else.

There could easily be, and I expect there is, an arrangement that’s finally in place that is satisfactory to H&M.

My guess is that it’s mainly that they’re given access to the information gathered by the various agencies in the UK. Probably they agreed that their private security would not carry firearms. And some level of access to police protection as needed.

If some or all of this has been put in place, it’s very likely no announcement would be made, because good security doesn’t talk about security.

That’s frustrating for us, the public, because we’ve been privy to the arguments about them NOT getting it, but we’re not privy to whatever arrangement is made when they do.

But do you honestly think they’d just decide, ok, what the heck, nevermind all our previous concerns, let’s just risk our lives for the fun of it? Come on.

    • ABritGuest says:

I think Harry’s former royal patronages were already reallocated like the England rugby one given to Kate. At the time some of them made clear they wanted to keep Harry on but the palace wasn’t having it.

And yes the palace are going to have tantrums about the Sussexes doing charity events in uk. That’s not new though. A lot of royal reporters said Kate & William were mad with H&M’s Australia trip earlier this year because they regard Australia as their turf and reportedly Kate’s Italy trip was a response to it.

Last year William’s camp briefed overshadowing complaints to the times because Harry did a remembrance week trip to Canada either before or during William’s earthshot trip to South Africa I think even though Harry gave at least his father’s office a heads up about the trip. So the overshadowing/ rival court complaints have been ongoing even whilst they’ve been in the US

  27. Sunnee says:

Those children are Californian. The first five years are crucial to the development of identity. They will always feel like they belong in California. Our family moved to NYC when I was 7. I know everything about NY, I was a New Yorker through and through, riding subways to school, playing in the hydrant, going to block parties where I learned to salsa and merengue, but when I went back to visit my country at age 23, it all came flooding back. The food, the smells, the language, the culture. I was home-home. My sibs who were 5 and older feel the same as I do. My baby brother and sister who were not yet two are American- New Yorkers. I think the kids will definitely be comfortable in both worlds, but their foundation is California. I believe H and M are giving them the other side of their heritage and culture which is truly appropriate. Given that their grandfather is King and ailing, not giving them that side would be robbing them of so much. They will get to experience a world that is uniquely theirs. They of course have a long lineage, but I would not be surprised if they always feel as though they are Californians first and foremost.

  28. QuiteContrary says:

Look, I am a strong woman, too, with agency, but it was not my first choice to spend six years living in London. I did that for my husband.

Believing that Meghan may feel similarly about this move isn’t a criticism of her. We all do things for the people we love (unless we’re Charles or William).

I feel sad for Meghan because I know how hard it is to move someplace you’re wary of — and I only had the painful experiences of my Irish relatives as my reference points. I didn’t face anything like the public horrors and pressures Meghan has faced.

I’ll be glad when this chapter of their life is behind them.

  29. Nancy says:

I beleive the simplest explanation. Invictus in Birmingham is one year out and it is easier for Harry to be in the UK to oversee and support it for that year. Included in that is that he might just miss the country and culture he grew up in and wants his children to sample that through attending a British school for that year. Once Invictus is done I predict they will fly home to Montecito. Lots of private citizens spend sabbatical years in foreign countries with the families and then head home and I don’t believe this is anything more than that. I am not Meghan so I cannot speak to how she is feeling but Harry can’t force her to go along with his plan so she must be onboard in some manner. Once again lots of private couples make sacrifices at one time or another for their spouses and there isn’t anything unusual about that. To me it’s nuts how dramatic everyone except H& M are behaving about this. I listened to a podcast that spent a good half hour discussing all the conspiracy theories surrounding this without ever once considering the simple answer. Crazy.

  30. Alice B. Tokeless says:

I’ve been avoiding most articles on this topic, because when I saw the news, my heart sank. It wasn’t a thought, it was an involuntary reaction.

I agree with so many of you here, but there’s just one variable rarely mentioned in the equation: William. He’s not emotionally or psychologically stable; he will do everything in his significant power to exact revenge. He’s a narcissist, and must have his pound of flesh to appease his wounded ego (he’s not unlike trump). As such, he will leak everything he hears about them, and from all accounts, all the RF staff gossip, and there are no secrets behind those palace walls. He will find out things about them. He will use that information to try and hurt them.

Remember, when you look at the branches of the RF and how they behave toward each other, you realize it’s just high school in an elegant setting. These are dumb, boring, and bored people who NEED an enemy since they no longer have an empire. They need to demonstrate their self-perceived superiority at every turn, and I promise you, they are all drooling at the hell through which they’re going to drag her. They’re already gossiping with their media buddies, chomping at the bit to tear her apart. What else do they have to do with their days?

And without a doubt in my head, the kids are also on their chopping block. Remember, the rats need clicks for their payday, and the RF needs distractions from…well, everything they do, or don’t do, in the case of W&K. The Rottweiler has her ear to the ground to pick up any Sussex tidbits, just waiting for her next gin and gossip sesh with Clarkson, or some other cretin. She’s also looking for payback for Spare.

All this to say, I have a bad feeling. I very much hope to be wrong, but…On the upside, one primary difference for MM this time around, is that she won’t be handing over her passport to anyone, and if they try to go round two with her, she will take her children and return to her mansion with 14 bathrooms. Of that I am certain. She knows their game now. She won’t be abused again. And there’s no way she’ll ever allow any to be heaped upon her children either.

This is all so insightful! Thank you.

Simultaneously bored AND boring is indeed a bad recipe, but more so when you mix in journos who are actually somewhat clever or at least have a way with snide words.

      • Alice B. Tokeless says:

So true, sadly. They are all giddy over the horrible things they’re hoping to print about the family.

    • Puff Updater says:

This comment says it all Alice. I swing back and forth from « H&M are reckless masochists » to « They MUST know something we don’t to justify this astonishing move! » But in truth the only positive I can see is that it makes William angry and while that’s funny as hell it’s also dangerous, because he is nuts. And yeah, Cammy’s always in the background plotting ill schemes into her wine 🍷. + Psykes just put up another shrieking screed on DBeast. The Sussexes have real enemies and only a feeble Chuckles as a half-assed ally.

There may be conflicts down the road. She’s probably being agreeable to his wishes, but she really didn’t like living there. Maybe she’ll hang out with Robin Wright or something, but I really don’t get why he’d drag her back there to deal with hostility from the media. So strange.

  32. tamsin says:

Didn’t the original wording say “extended period?” I still believe that it is a confluence of reasons that made this the time for them to make this move to establish a home in the UK.

  33. Lis says:

I just get the worst vibes from all of this. I’m sure Meghan agreed , she’s trying to keep her family together.
I think this may very well be the end of it. I don’t trust them not to use the kids. Peg didn’t agree, he’s a monster. Harry is so foolish to think his brother will be kind to his kids and that his dad will protect them.

    Couple points:

    1. Unfortunately I think some have bought into British press propaganda- seems repetition is sadly effective. Meghan isn’t hated in the uk. Meghan’s projects have been incredibly successful in uk from the Together cookbook to the vogue she guest edited which was released during a heavy smearing cycle but holds the record for the fastest selling vogue edition. This support has continued post stepping back from royal duties with WLM s1 and the holiday special debuting in the top 5 in uk.

There are racists that hate her and their children being part of the BRF but anti Blackness is global. And some royalists (often racists too) who hate her speaking out about their precious monarchy. But I don’t think these types are the majority. The press is not the same as the public. The royalist press wouldn’t be working so hard to smear Meghan & even Harry if they truly thought she/they were hated by the majority. We see these polls about how unpopular they claim Harry is but show me Edward with warm crowds similar to Harry after the IG10 event at St Paul’s even though polls claim Edward is more popular.
    2. the online bullying that Meghan experiences is global and there are many media outlets in US that smear her mainly because of Murdoch’s reach but also most corporate media loves using misogynoir for clicks. Bot sentinel research from 2021 indicated that many of the small number of accounts spreading hate against Meghan to thousands were American. Plus the current US president literally called Harry whipped and said that Meghan was awful. So idea that Archie & Lili may be insulated from nasty discourse about their mother in USA doesn’t seem right.
    3. Press like people mag and the fail were reporting just a few weeks ago that Harry was going to stay at Buckingham palace in September 🤪. They didn’t know this relocation was coming. So idea that the Fail especially is some accurate authority on this relocation is surprising.

Even as much as the Sussex team brief people mag & may have contributed to this article, they are still a pro palace mag and I agree with Jais that they weave in their own palace propaganda in articles on H&M especially if it’s from Simon Perry. I can think of many stories people mag have got wrong despite their relationship with the Sussex team eg claiming the Netflix deal was ending last year and that Harry wasn’t attending his late uncle in law’s funeral. So seems like some are accepting certain reporting that they might usually analyse more critically even with us not having all the facts. Eg Harry must want to enroll Archie in schools just like his even though he denied the daily Beast story that he had enrolled Archie in Eton. And I’m not aware of him say anything bad about American accents.
    4. in 2020 H&M said they wanted to split time between UK & North America so [to paraphrase] their son could understand both backgrounds. The palace said Frogmore would remain their uk residence and they kept Frogmore for years after their 2020 exit until the 2023 eviction. The security court case & then Harry saying he would lobby the government on the issue made clear to me that he was not giving up until that 2020 plan.

Harry has said he enjoys the space he has to raise his kids in California AND that he misses the UK and wants his kids to know his background. As I’ve said both can be true and my assumption is that we would have seen them spending time in both countries earlier as a family if it wasn’t for the pandemic, the palace blocking security and the Frogmore eviction meaning they couldn’t even benefit from a met police secured home.

    5. Harry missing his country is being discussed like a character flaw when it’s such a common experience from immigrants that I know even when they love their new country. I know many who immigrants who have fled their home countries in fear of their lives because of hostile governments who still miss and long for their homeland.

Apart from family, friends, orgs like Travalyst and Invictus and a lot of the causes he supports being in uk, Harry’s mother is buried there. Not sure why it’s unfathomable for Harry to still want to spend time in the uk even with the toxic uk press (which hasn’t exactly left him alone in the US) and even if the Windsors don’t want him in UK- which frankly who cares. Why should he have to forfeit his homeland because of his relatives silly jealousy etc.

Similarly if things had worked out in the brf, Meghan had loved her new life & they had never left, I would totally understand if Meghan was still homesick for California or even Canada which she said was like a second home.

Some have said why can’t Harry just fly to uk & visit his friends if he misses them but he said previously when the security court case was ongoing he didn’t want to risk uk visits with no security more than he had to. So he has missed events like his close friend’s wedding last year & who knows how many other events or time with godchildren etc. Plus how do we know Meghan hasn’t missed her uk friends too. Her best friend and reportedly some of Archie’s godparents are in uk & some have families so may not have the flexibility to go out to Montecito often.
    7. Again as some don’t like this move they seem to be given credence to reporting mainly from the UK press that Harry lacks purpose. As if Harry didn’t have Better Up, Invictus, Travalyst, Archewell Foundation & Productions and until recently Sentebale to keep him busy.

Harry has also probably been more visible than Meghan in USA with work & philanthropic stuff- from doing Q&As at Better Up summits to his recent DC VA medical centre visit as part of supporting veterans, to one805 appearances supporting first responders to representing travalyst, African Parks, Archewell Foundation and the Diana awards in nyc in 2024 during UN assembly week. And Harry suggested that he is looking at launching a new venture connected to his work with veterans. That doesn’t like someone lacking purpose or an identity outside of being a prince to me.

  36. Robert Wright says:

What she built from scratch? She had far less money than he did when they met. She was estimated at a 5 million dollar net worth. Harry was valued at 20 to 40 million dollars net worth. You make it sound as if he was a pauper with no capability to build anything. Never mind Sentebale, a once able non profit, and Invictus a huge success before she ever stepped into his life. Yes, she is a force of nature but much of their recent successes are mostly because of the HRH’s. I doubt that any of what has happened for them would have happened without him. No one was going to give Meghan 20 million for anything based off of her success on Suits. They have achieved what they have achieved because of both of them, not despite Harry. It’s so sad that so much Harry bashing is going on on this site. A few days ago no one here would dare to breath a negative word against him, and now he’s somehow a dolt with no ability and is betraying his wife. What a shame.

  37. Truth says:

Agree with the harry bashing…bottom line we know nothing.

Disagree success was bc of HRH’s. It was bc of who they are wo the titles. Harry and Meghan. Stripped Diana of her HRH and had she lived….

Yes they are royalty but so many are royalty and don’t have this level of success. Fergie failed, Edward and Sophie failed, etc…

It came because Meghan and Harry are a unit. Harry by himself not this level. Meghan by herself not this level…but with the Tig and Suits, she was gonna do something.

And now whatever this is…they will do together. Harry is not a naive little boy nor was he a wolf in sheep’s clothing who is really more like Will and Charles. Give Meghan some credit!
