Saturday night was the opening night gala for the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art. The Lucas in question is George Lucas, who is old-school enough to take his billions and found a museum. All of Lucas’ friends were there (Steven Spielberg, Guillermo del Toro), but it seemed like this was a pretty hot ticket for A-listers and wannabes. Speaking of, Katy Perry and Justin Trudeau showed up! I still don’t get them at all, but sure. Katy wore Christian Siriano – this looks super-cheap, which makes me think that Siriano might hate her a little bit.
Kim Kardashian and Lewis Hamilton were there, although they didn’t pose together on the carpet. Kim was styled by Law Roach, which is very funny, but my guess is that Kim was willing to pay an exorbitant rate just to say that she was styled by Law. Law put her in a very good 2004/vintage Saint Laurent by Tom Ford. She paired the look with Oscar Heyman earrings and a Zydo ring. Lewis also wore Saint Laurent.

I am neither “bump watching” or have the expectation that woman have to have flat stomachs (mine certainly isn’t!) but it’s like this dress on KP is fitted in such a way to deliberately look like she’s a few months pregnant. Like, not “pudgy” (meaning real body), deliberately cradling a bump. Christian Siriano knows how to fit all sorts of body types and do it supremely well without making anyone over a size 0 look dumpy, matronly, or even bigger than they are. The only conclusion is Siriano REALLY hates her.

Kim, as a huge fan of Christian I have a different take on this. He was the first designer who would dress plus sized celebs. I’ve seen many interviews he’s done. He said he always collaborates with the person he’s designing for. He wants them to love what they’re wearing, feel beautiful and comfortable. Even it’s not what he might have envisioned for them. I think this was Katy’s idea. And it worked. Here we are commenting on her outfit. Is she pregnant? How could JT let her go out looking like this? What’s the expression, there’s no such thing as bad publicity? She got what she wanted and good for Christian, I’m sure he was paid very well for it.
For sure, I’ve followed him since his Project Runway days and agree that his business model since has been ensuring every gown is flattering to his customer, and inclusive of all body types.
