Andie MacDowell reveals her weight

In what little I’ve seen lately of lovely American actress Andie MacDowell, 52, I’ve found her incredibly down to earth and likable. The last time we reported on her, in October, she was upbeat but realistic about her career as an actress in which she’s no longer in high demand. At that time she was filming two Lifetime movies, and she said that she was just happy to keep working and that she wasn’t picky about roles. She said, “I’m 51 and I have no shame about that whatsoever and I’m really comfortable in my skin… I may not be the lead or I may not get the starring roles that I used to because so many movies revolve around youth, but I refuse to go away because I enjoy it.” It doesn’t hurt that MacDowell, the face of L’Oreal for over 25 years, is strikingly beautiful yet hasn’t had any obvious work done. If she gets Botox or Restylane you can barely tell and it’s just the right amount.

The May issue of Prevention features an interview with MacDowell, and she sounds just as upfront and realistic as she has in the past. MacDowell also reveals her weight! She’s 5’8″ tall and 137-138 pounds, which is incredibly fit and healthy without being too skinny. I admire that she gave her exact number, because that requires real confidence. In an industry when women are taught that they have to be super thin, she shows that you can be fit and proud without starving yourself.

When you were a young model, in an industry not known for positive body images, did you ever have problems with weight?
There was a time when someone complained to my agency that I was overweight. It was after I’d been in New York for a few years, and I was trying to figure out how to maintain my weight. I was 132 pounds then, and I’m 5-foot-8 – and still eat healthy and exercise. So I said, “Tell them not to book me. This is the best I can do.” And shortly after, I got Calvin Klein commercials and a movie, so it didn’t stop me.

You still look model weight to me
Right now I’m about 137 to 138 pounds and I feel pretty good about it. Also, as soon as you get older, your face starts o look drawn – that’s why I think I’m better off with those 5 extra pounds.

Do you have a guilty pleasure when it comes to food?
Well, it’s not a guilty thing – I really do think that chocolate is good for you. And it’s better to eat that than to not have anything. That’s when you end up eating too much – when you feel deprived.

[From Prevention, print edition, May, 2010]

It’s so rare for actresses to reveal their actual weights! I can only remember two other actresses doing this recently: Jenny McCarthy (5’6″ and 125 pounds) and Kirstie Alley, who did it in a roundabout way through her show and a subsequent appearance on Oprah. (5’7″ and 210 pounds a few weeks ago.)

To keep fit, MacDowell says she does all kind of yoga and enjoys hiking and mountain climbing. She says she strives to ask herself “Do I feel healthy because I’m strong? Are my shoulders back? Can I be happy?” I love how she focuses on her health and says that she doesn’t consider chocolate a guilty pleasure! MacDowell should be a real example to certain older celebrities who continue to diet and exercise themselves into oblivion and then try and cover it up with chipmunk cheek implants and injectable fillers – Madonna, I’m looking at you.

She is beautiful, a terrific actress and would remain both at any weight.

  2. Lilias says:

She’s a pretty lady with gorgeous hair and a wonderful sensibility about herself.

She is aging suspiciously well but you’re right, whatever she’s doing is subtle.

  3. Lisa says:

That is my exact height and weight also, too funny. It is very nice to hear a celebrity being honest about their weight. She is still stunning….

  4. lrm says:

when she lived in montana years ago, with her then husband, and her young children, she used to come to the restaurant I worked at…she is perhaps more beautiful in person [i remember when she was pregnant with her third-glowing!],and other patrons would say ‘hey, that looks like andie McD.’ because it’s montana, and not LA. LOL so you dont expect it to be the actual actor herself.

I recall one time in the health store there, I heard a voice in the next aisle, and thought it sounded familiar…but in a strange context. It was Andie…just living her life and doing her thang.

Anyway, she and her family were great, friendly, down to earth…and like I said, she is supremely beautiful, naturally,so i am not surprised she’s ageing well. That, and she chose montana and then back home in N.C. to raise her family-she eschewed the LA scene on purpose. I swear staying out of the limelight makes you age better-think about it…the actresses that keep a low profile are more relaxed, age more naturally by the looks of it,and just seem more comfortable in their skin.

It’s a feeding frenzy environment otherwise. And being in the buzz I think creates a distorted mind and self-image.

    Anyway,kudos to Andie. She’s cool,and a class act, IMO.

We weigh (and height) the same too! Now if only I could look that good at 52 after kids and such I’d be well happy

  6. MeMyself says:

Irm, you must be from Missoula, because I also remember Andie from her visits into our bakery/restaurant. She was always sweet to me, even commenting on when I changed my hair.
She told me she felt very comfortable there and it was always a treat to wait on her and her family.

  7. Jackson says:

I’ve always loved Andie, and I’m glad, but not surprised, to hear these sweet personal stories about her. She is a testament on how to age beautifully.

    Go Andie Mac!

  8. Green Is Good says:

I’ve always love, love, loved her! She has genuine class and grace.

Unlike some celebs (side-eye to Heather Locklear), Andie isn’t freaking out because she’s in her 50’s.

  9. lucy2 says:

She seems very confident and content – as she should, she looks great!
She does seem like a very nice woman and down to earth. Can’t say I’m a huge fan of her acting, but I still like her, and Greencard is forever one of my favorite movies.

  10. Luci says:

    love her
I think she’s learned a thing about the loreal catch-phrase, “because you’re worth it” !

  11. mollination says:

Groundhog’s Day and “Michael” are two of my favorite (random) movies – I love Andie MacDowell. This just makes me even happier to hear she’s cool too.

  12. freckles says:

Aww I love Andie.. She seems so nice and just like someone you’d actually want to meet and be friends with. I’m always glad to hear personal stories about celebs that aren’t bitchy! 🙂

  13. g says:

adore her was recently my home state [w.aust] making movie.
unfortunately has ill will toward me for her own reasons. wander why she keeps makin ads aimed toward ‘no greys’.
    -still sexy beeitch!

  14. Nanea says:

Even after weeks and weeks of doing her $cientologist fad diet, I highly doubt Kirstie Alley is down to 210. I’d say she looks more like 225, down from 240 or so.

  15. Trace says:

    She is really beautiful.

  16. erika says:

That’s my height & weight too 🙂 I’ve been feeling fat … all these super thin celebrities are bad for self-esteem… thanks, Andie, for making me feel better! I just hope I look anything like that when I’m 51. She looks like she’s still in her late 30s.

  17. original kate says:

gorgeous! i love her southern accent, too.

  18. andrea says:

i think she’s got a point about looking gaunt as you get older and it can make you look a bit haggard and a few extra pounds helping with that – plumper cheeks, etc, gives you a softer younger look.

  19. funnygirl says:

Love that she says she keeps a little extra weight on so she doesnt look gaunt in her face…i swear that is why so many older female celebs look so terrible…a woman in her 50s should not be rail thin..it effects wrinkles and their face structure…then they get these ridiculous face injections…so dumb! just eat a piece of chocolate for goodness sake!

  20. Gia says:

Andie is gorgeous and I love the way she talks. Another reason she looks so good is that she stays out of the sun. Tans are not healthy, they just make you look like a saddlebag as you age.

  21. ligeia says:

i would have guessed she is about 120-130, not 140. but i guess muscle weights more than fat(or is that a myth).

  22. Kim says:

She has had plenty of botox and fillers – who is she kidding?

  23. Kim says:

137 at 5′ 8″ is pretty sickly skinny. i think she weights more than that but who cares she looks good.

  24. Benny says:

She looks great for 51 (just compare her to other early 50’s like Madonna). If she does botox or had a lift, she did it the right way (not over-done), so her face doesn’t have that fake, tight, distorted look.

  25. Richie says:

OH she’s remarkably beautiful!!! amazing actress!!

  26. Maritza says:

She’s sweet, beautiful and a very good actress.

  27. i went to a day spa in my home town that is well known for catering to celebrity clientele. upon asking who was a true beauty among the celebs serviced- andie macdowell’s name came up several times. apparently her skin is quite natural- this was about 4 years ago-and has no sun damage, which also accounts for the youthful look. they were quite surprised by her lack of chemical intervention- she was the only star by name(and there were many) that they couldn’t tell if she had had any superficial work done…they really felt she hadn’t.

  28. I happen to be hunting looking about for this kind of data. Will you submit some a lot more in long term?

  29. Your excellent position is really spot on and i also have been completely preaching something very close to anyone that will pay attention. I’m going to link to this excellent write-up around several places which will tell others all about all of this. I really appreciate you making the effort to write this excellent post.
