Shuter: The palace is concerned with Prince William & Kate’s association with Tom Cruise

I’ve been waiting for the royalists to pick up on our theory about Tom Cruise’s interest in and devotion to the Prince and Princess of Wales. Since last week’s royal premiere for Digger, royalists have smugly crowed about how Prince William and Kate are the true A-list royals because they’re so tight with Tom Cruise. Tom Sykes has spoken of little else for the past week, you know? But while Cruise’s rebrand has been successful, make no mistake, he’s still very involved in the Church of Scientology, and he’s still CoS’s biggest recruiter. To some of us, it appears as if Cruise is buttering up William and Kate for his own Scientology-related agenda. At the very least, there’s a non-zero chance that Cruise has been sent out to hook a couple of big fishes for Xenu. Well, according to Rob Shuter, the palace is concerned.

Tom Cruise’s increasingly cozy relationship with Catherine, Princess of Wales, is causing concern behind palace walls — and insiders insist this isn’t about romance. It’s about Scientology.

Cruise, 64, has become increasingly effusive about Catherine following the London premiere of Digger, where he took her hand and helped guide her down the steps. The Hollywood superstar has also publicly praised Catherine and Prince William as “amazing people.”

But sources tell Naughty But Nice that Cruise’s longstanding association with Scientology makes his growing access to Britain’s future king and queen particularly sensitive.

“Nobody is worried Catherine is going to run off with Tom Cruise,” a palace source tells Naughty But Nice. “They’re worried about Scientology getting anywhere near the future king and queen. That is a completely different matter.”

The monarchy’s religious role makes the optics especially delicate. King Charles is Supreme Governor of the Church of England, while William is heir to the throne.

[From Rob Shuter’s Substack]

What makes this conversation even more exquisite is that William isn’t particularly religious, and he has to be dragged kicking and screaming to do anything for or with the Anglican church. Which makes him fertile ground for any kind of recruitment, right? That being said, I feel like this is one situation where William and Kate’s laziness might be their saving grace. They’re simply too disengaged and indolent to get recruited for anything. Still, in a monarchy where optics are supposedly everything, it’s interesting that no one in the Waleses’ camp has seen any problem with cozying up to Cruise.

Yes, Sykes has posted 2-3 articles so far about how Willy and Khate are the “real” winners in this one-sided PR war that’s all in their imagination, because they spent a few minutes with Cruise. Sykes sneers that Harry just shows up in tuxedos for events around Invictus, which is … a program that actually changes lives. Just yesterday, Harry spoke by Zoom to NATO officials and attended the Ukraine fundraiser in the evening. Harry’s work sounds like actual global statesmanship.

Anyway, LOL, Willy and Kate are much too cheap to make the massive donations Scientology asks.

  2. Shiela Kerr says:

Shuter is again making up nonsense for relevancy.

  3. Tom says:

I find it bizarre that world “leaders” refuse to use banisters. It’s stupid.

  4. Hypocrisy says:

As I stated in a previous post today I firmly believe TC is recruiting the Wales couple and it definitely involves The Cult of Scientology, he as an agenda for sure.. WanK both seem dazzled by movie star celebrities like TC which should be a big concern.. I often wondered if John Travolta was sent to recruit Princess Diana decades ago because he’s another Scientology cult member.

    • Interested Gawker says:

I don’t see this line of reasoning as fanciful. Most cults build their hierarchy structure in a manner similar to royalty and religious orders, linking themselves to the ‘real deal’ would be advantageous.

  5. QuiteContrary says:

Yeah, William is not going to fork over thousands of pounds for those weird courses Scientology makes its adherents go through … and he’s certainly not going to sit for auditing sessions and spill his darkest secrets. He’s far too tightly wound … and yes, lazy. And just tight, period.

Still, being so friendly with a top Scientologist — one who has benefited from the unpaid and forced labor of those in inferior ranks of Scientology — isn’t a good look for W&K.

Though, come to think of it, it does give them something in common. W&K, like their pal Tom, live in luxury, while those who labor for them are barely getting by.

    • Brassy Rebel says:

It’s possible that the Scientologists just want access to the future king and queen in case they need favors down the road. Cruise is certainly greasing the skids for something. But, no, they won’t be joining up anytime soon.

      • Becks1 says:

I think its more about this – currying favor with the future king and queen – over actually trying to recruit them. Scientology has come under a lot of fire in recent years and Cruise is using W&K to give it (and him) an air of legitimacy. Cruise wants to make sure they take his phone call in the future.

    • Lorelei says:

That’s the thing, though— it’s the reason they’re able to so successfully swindle people. If you or I walked in, we’d be asked to pay for the “auditing” classes, but IMO they would have a much more sophisticated approach to William that wouldn’t involve money for a long time, until William was invested enough in the fact that he finally had something of his own that hadn’t been prescribed since he was in the womb.

It’s sad, but these people know what they’re doing, and how to find and exploit people’s vulnerabilities. I don’t think they’d discuss money until William was firmly on board, possibly not for years, out of “curiosity” or however they’d spin it.

      • Lady J says:

Totally agree – I can see Cruise offering William auditing and whatever else Scientology does, and William actually taking him up on it. William strikes me as someone who would be very susceptible to a cult like Scientology. Kate much less so (Carole would never stand for it), but I can 100% see William dabbling, if never fully joining.

    • Cee says:

They won’t need to. All Scientology needs is access to them. That’s a way to raise money (sold access) + recruits (if you rise high enough, you can one day meet the King and Queen!) while they line their pockets.
William and Kate are vain enough to fall for it and be used by Scientology.

  6. CatGotMyTongue says:

I can’t imagine that he would be able to recruit them. They’re not terribly bright, but they don’t like to spend their own money and the men in grey would surely do all they could to shut it down.

Kate just wants a nice night out. Willy wants to wear his aeroplane slippers. TC wants to look like an A lister. They’re not joining his weird cult.

TC/scientology tried it with the Beckhams as well as Will and Jada, and we all saw where that went… nowhere.

    • Puff Updater says:

“WIlly wants to wear his aeroplane slippers” LOL. Yeah, those two are way too stupid and passionless to become fervent cult members. It would be hilarious beyond words if they did become Scientologists though.

    • Lorelei says:

Every time this comes up, I remain amazed at Katie Holmes’s ninja-like ability to get herself and Suri TF out of that mess by going behind their backs and using burner phones, etc. That took courage!

  7. JFerber says:

I love the line, ” Nobody is worried that Catherine will run off with Tom Cruise.” Too funny. Maybe they ARE worried about that. Tom shows more regard for her than her own husband. Fake or real, it still must feel good. Given her life, Kate probably doesn’t make distinctions anymore between fake or real. But it’s interesting they make the Scientology connection. It does make the monarchy look bad– but so much else they do does too. They don’t care. England is their fiefdom. And Bill and Kate are so supremely self-centered and stupid, anything Tom might say to them will bounce right off into the ether. He’s a big movie star and they love the attention.
    End of.

    • Eurydice says:

Lol, I just posted the same.

    • Gtwiecz says:

Both Royalty and Scientology have things in common. Secrecy, hierarchy, punishment of those who stray, brainwashing, and mafia-like tactics.

      • Mrs.Krabapple says:

They also like to cosplay in military uniform.

And aren’t Willie’s good friends the Beckhams scientologists, or secret scientologists? And if course, scientology likes to get their hooks into people who need professional therapy but dont receive it, making it seem like scientology’s got the answers to help them. And Willy certainly needs it for anger issues, and Kate with her ED.

I see the Wales as perfect targets.

  8. Sparkling Water says:

Normally I wouldn’t trust Shuter as far as I can throw him, which makes me wonder about this piece. It sounds like it could be true but also a sophisticated form of embiggening? I have to imagine that Shuter’s only palace sources, if any, are at KP.

But yes, while in a sense they’re ripe for Co$ recruitment, if Kate can’t donate much money to a hospital, then I can’t see them giving large sums over for auditing courses, you know?

  9. Eurydice says:

It’s not a stretch – Tom Cruise is always, always, always recruiting for Scientology. What’s interesting is the concern hitting the press like a kind of warning. But I have to laugh at, “No one is worried Catherine is going to run off with Tom Cruise.”

  10. Tn democrat says:

Could Charles (Camilla) be yanking Willy’s leash??? Very little negative content is published about the royals without approval from either KP or BP. Ah. It is nice seeing Willy get his hands smacked lightly. His family are already an embiggened cult with plenty of hangers on and sycophants. How much strife has occurred because a violent psychopathic split from the Catholic church 500 years ago to divorce his wife for a woman he later had murdered? Willy wouldn’t have the impact to cause centuries of horrors if he fell into Scientology, but it is all a bad look. Willy literally married his stalker. Best not to take any chances with Willy around anyone who flatters him…

    • Tis True, Tis True says:

My biggest worry would be Willy doing it to piss off Chuck.

Always wondered if a big enough catch, like Will or Kate, would actually have to pay for auditing if the church thought it might scare them off.

    • Mairzy Doats says:

In the context of “money and power”, all the cult needs is some level of acceptance in order to gain a larger foothold and expand in England under its various organizations. William has already indicated indifference to The Church of England, and his apparent personal inner turmoil makes him vulnerable to some whacky ideas. He doesn’t have to become a member of the cult; he just needs to give it acceptance. And they play the long game. Palace might have good reason to be concerned.

      • Eurydice says:

Yes, Scientology has a massive real estate portfolio, some holdings in the UK, and is always looking for more. William would be more valuable as an ally than a member.

      • Lorelei says:

@MairzyDoats, ITA. These people are cunning and absolutely know to play the long game.

William would be like that “frog in hot water” saying that didn’t realize it became boiling because it happened so slowly, over time.

      • Gtwiecz says:

Scientologists are like the mafia. They go after their enemies. They will do anything. Maybe Cruise is offering them protection. Become a member and we will get rid of anyone who threatens your long time scam…

      • Lorelei says:

Every time this comes up, I remain amazed at Katie Holmes’s ninja-style ability to somehow go behind all of their backs with burner phones, etc., to get her and Suri TF out of that mess. That took courage.

  11. JFerber says:

TN Democrat, you always tell it like it is. I admire that.

  12. Amy Bee says:

I’m grateful that Rob Shuter is not making up a story about Harry and Meghan for once. But I don’t believe that the Palace is concerned about Tom Cruise. Wiliam is going to be Head of the Anglican Church and the Palace will believe that William will become loyal to the Church when he becomes King.

  13. Frida’s Xolo says:

IDK, the Wales seem like perfect targets for Scientology: rich, lots of time on their hands, “attack the attacker” responses to any criticism, and they don’t pay the help. (I truly believe that any royal staff at sea gets treated like Sea Org employees!). Thus it seems to me that Buckingham Palace is correct to be concerned about Kate and William; the latter because he seems very susceptible to flattery and fame, the former because she’s probably very lonely and has always preferred attention from men.

Finally, neither Kate nor Will have demonstrates the kind of intellectual curiosity, social smarts, or strength of character required to avoid a full charm offensive from Tom Cruise! If the Scientology “Church” has sights on William and Kate as King and Queen, then it is willing to play the long game and patiently do neutral activities to groom the two of them. I can definitely see William and Kate childish enough to act like “the more you tell me to stay away, the more I want to do it!” attitude, especially after Charles dies.

  14. Jensa says:

At the very least, Tom Cruise was able to use the Waleses to publicise his terrible film. Neither of them have a thought in their head, but they’re susceptible to flattery (so is the King), so I think it’s as simple as that.

  15. kelleybelle says:

Again, not a single photo of Will looking at Kate, no matter how hard they try, lol.

  16. Lauren says:

Every time I see Kate in profile I’m shocked at how thin she is, it’s like she’s lost so much weight that parts of her body seem out of proportion

  17. Ciotog says:

My cousin’s wife got involved in Scientology and they ended up broke and divorced. Unlike other commenters I could easily see Kate being susceptible to a cult. She seems lost right now and in desperate need of attention.

    • Lorelei says:

And attention from Tom Cruise, no less. Kids today (lol) either haven’t heard of him or don’t care, but people our age? He’s still Tom Cruise, you know? I can absolutely see Kate falling for whatever he throws at her. Especially if he frames it as giving her exposure to what $cientologists do for kids in their “early years” or some sh!t.

  18. Jay says:

“Nobody is worried Catherine is going to run off with Tom Cruise” Bitches, I spit out my coffee. Only a fantasist (or maybe Kate herself) could look at Tom’s polite, kindly gesture to help a frail-looking woman tottering down stairs alone as “maybe they’ll run away together!” GIRL.

I would argue that both the Wales are excellent targets for recruitment by Scientology. For one, they have things that would be useful to the cult: power, connections, and property. So they are great targets, and easily flattered by proximity to celebrity. They also don’t really have a lot of barriers around them – yes, they have staffers, but nobody that can tell them “no” or point out problems. And it’s clear that Charles and the grey men don’t have any control.

Now, why would William or Kate think scientology has something to offer them? In my opinion, it’s often the people who seem aimless or without a belief system that find religion later in life in a big way, and I imagine scientology is much the same. Whenever I read about actors or musicians who got into it, it’s because they responded to the intensity and the rigid structure of it. A lot of them talk about getting off of drugs and suddenly having a credo that made sense of the world, which I think would appeal to William and Kate. I could easily see Kate taking her “the best medicine is going outside!” message towards the more extreme anti-medical stances of scientology. William has talked about his struggle to deal with his own mental health and trauma, and goodness knows he’s had plenty. Well, what if someone told him: it’s not you that’s the problem, mate, it’s all those psychiatrists who aren’t helping you. We have a solution!
I think he would be an easy mark.

  19. Psyker01 says:

I will point out that in several scientologist books including Going Clear that Cruise is the closer they send in when they need to sell Scientology to someone or need something that will help the organization. COS would love to have William and Kate be members but even having an in with the future King and Queen is still useful.

  20. Lover says:

Scientology does not need to squeeze Will and Kate for money to get value from them, nor would it compel them to take auditing classes and such. The benefit is in the PR value of having the future king and queen of England being friendly and open to Scientology. It legitimizes and normalizes Scientology. It makes people who look up to Will and Kate more open to recruitment, and those are the ones who will be squeezed.

  21. StillDouchesOfCambridge says:

Lazy scooter pegger willie and baby brain kkkhate would be signed up to scientology, they wouldn’t even know, tom is so smooth talking. These 2 have no clue.
