Taylor Swift wore an icy blue Dior at the Academy Museum gala: lovely?

The now-annual Academy Museum gala marks the beginning of the awards season, in my opinion. It’s the first time the year’s Oscar hopefuls are gathered together in one place alongside the Hollywood power players and Academy voters who determine who gets nominated for various awards. Well, big surprise, Taylor Swift was front-and-center at this year’s gala. She not only attended as one of the biggest-name guests, she performed on stage (and she had a dress change too).

Taylor is obviously trying really hard to win an Oscar for her Toy Story 5 song, “I Knew It, I Knew You.” I’m soooo interested in watching how this plays out for her. On one side, Taylor has accrued a great deal of power on her own, and she’s an impressive person even among other powerful and wealthy people. So far, she’s playing it really well. But the Academy loves to withhold, especially when someone “wants it too much.” Especially when the narrative is “she already has so much, so we’re not going to let her buy an Oscar.”

Taylor’s pale blue dress is from Dior. She’s been wearing a lot of Dior this year, possibly because she’s a big fan of Jonathan Anderson? She also chose Dior/Jonathan Anderson for her wedding gown, which we still haven’t seen. This is fine and typical of Taylor’s style. She has always loved a Disney-princess look. Her diamond jewelry is all Chopard. Her hair is… sigh. Those bangs.

  1. Tessa says:

I like Taylor’s gown and her hair style for the event

    • Josephine says:

I like the dress but the grey undertones are not the best for her coloring, especially since she looks like she has a fake tan (maybe just the lighting).

      • Mayp says:

💯. Thank you, @Josephine. Someone else that sees what I see. I really like the dress but that color does not look good on Swift. It brings her whole look down to blah. Had the dress been a true ice blue it would have looked great on her. I just don’t see how someone with Swift’s money can make such mistakes when it comes to color.

  2. StillDouchesOfCambridge says:

It’s a nice dress and she looks good. The bangs reason is that she needs to hide the horrible 90’s brows? They are botoxed to arch to the extreme

  3. Sarita says:

May the universe let me have a relationship more committed than Taylor is to her bangs.
I wonder if the long curls she had when she debuted were as fake as her country music and roots. I’d love to see that on her again now, she is in a style rut.

  4. NotMika says:

I kind of love that Taylor Swift is one of the richest, most famous women in the world and she has the same hair as one of the more put together girls at your office.

  5. Jolie B. says:

That icy blue Dior is giving major modern Cinderella. Love how effortlessly it drapes on her!

  6. Snuffles says:

Is it just me or does she look uncomfortable, like the dress is too tight and she can’t barely breathe.

  7. Who WERE these people? says:

What are some other potential song nominations because hers was okay but hardly memorable.

  8. Denise says:

Beautiful gown and it totally suits her. She had some work done around her jawline, chin area. It’s more visible from her profile. She has a lovely face, I hope she won’t mess with it too much

  9. Sue says:

I mean the Academy gave the Oscar to Anne Hathaway and the irrational hate toward her was that she wanted it too much. So.

    • Sarah says:

I am not an Anne fan, but that hate campaign for her wanting to achieve a goal was insane and so misogynistic because Tom Cruise desperately wants one and no one says anything other than he should get one some day.

    • KASalvy says:

Anne’s hate felt more fan based, not critic. She was over campaigning at the time, but she still has phenomenal talent. I don’t feel the same way about Swift. She tried with the original song for Cats and pretty much got the same reception: she’s only writing these songs to get an Oscar.

      • Sarah says:

Critics haven’t turned on Taylor for this song at all. In fact quite the opposite and critics did in fact turn on Anne- big time.

Also to say Taylor isn’t talented is disingenuous at best.

  10. Sarah says:

You don’t have to like Taylor’s music but to diminish her talent and say she is trying to buy an Oscar is a little unfair. She is widely considered one of the best songs of all time. Again it is fine if her work doesn’t speak to you, or you find her annoying but lets not act like she isn’t accomplished or that she is somehow wrong for wanting to achieve things like an Oscar.

Be ambitious, all women should be.

I love this look, I don’t like the bow but he had one on Kerri Washington’s dress too so it seems to be a Dior thing right now, but the color and fit are just stunning. She is never giving up the bangs since Anna Wintor told her she needs them, so I am must letting it go, because it is her hair. She should update the bangs though. I freaking love those earrings. I enjoyed this red carpet people clearly cared and tired.

  11. fwiw says:

The dress could be hiding an early pregnancy. The design calls attention above the waist. The excessive loose fabric below that hangs wide. Or it could just be a lovely dress.

  12. Ameerah M says:

The dress is pretty – but her injector is doing her dirty. Her eyebrows keep getting higher and higher.

  13. pamspam says:

Hmm. I think I like the bangs more than the dress, to be honest.

  14. Meg says:

I really like this song! It sort of makes me tear up because of the movie! I can’t watch any of the Toy Story movies without crying. I went to see the most recent one with my nephew, and I was a mess.

  15. Flamingo says:

I like the dress I see more blue than grey. Maybe a nod to her recent marriage ‘something blue’.

The hair is meh to me. But who is Taylor without her bangs trauma.
