Kim Kardashian has been obsessed with Elizabeth Taylor for basically all of her adult life. Maybe she was obsessed with Elizabeth as a kid as well. Kim has always tried to play up her similarities to Taylor – the multiple marriages and divorces, the jewelry, their curvy figures. There’s a real hollowness to it though, because Kim is only interested in the aesthetics of the comparison, and Elizabeth’s looks and style were only a small part of her icon status. All of which to say, Kim was styled to look like Elizabeth at the Academy Museum event on Saturday. It’s a pale imitation which does Kim no favors. Her dress here is vintage Balenciaga.

Greta Lee in Dior. Honestly, I would probably hate this on anyone else, but on Greta, it looks amazing and striking.
Hunter Schafer in custom Prada. The dress itself is a bit conservative and plain, but it looks amazing on her.
Jessica Biel and Justin Timberlake, with Biel in Tamara Ralph & Chopard. This feels like the first industry event they’ve attended in a few years. I’m a little bit surprised they attended together, honestly. Jessica’s dress is…fine.
Mia Goth in Dior. I’m not joking when I say that this was one of my favorite looks of the night. I love a slouchy shirtdress-style gown. It looks like a sexy robe and I bet it was super-comfortable. This was Mia’s first outing since she filed for divorce from Shia LaBeouf.

One of the things Kim K keeps missing is that these women – Marilyn Monroe, Elizabeth Taylor – weren’t icons simply bc they were gorgeous or were curvy. There was something else about them that raised them up a level. Copying their outfits or hairstyles doesn’t get you to that same level, it actually just highlights the gap in my opinion.
Besides that – I love Greta Lee’s dress. Its nice to see some color with all the black and white. BUT I also love Hunter Schafer’s black and white dress.
I did have to google who Hunter Schafer is though lol.
There was something else about them that raised them up a level.: in my opinion, it’s charm and charisma. I find all the kardashians to be charisma vacuums. i actually really love kim’s gown, but it doesn’t fit. i actually really like most of the dresses on this post, especially greta’s. i always like seeing color on the runway. i quickly get sick of black gowns.
I find it remarkable that, even after spending virtually her entire adult life in the public eye, Kim genuinely appears to have no personal sense of style. She likes to cosplay as more interesting women, of course, as seen here and when she broke Marilyn’s dress. Back when she was with Kanye, she typically wore whatever bland yet excruciatingly uncomfortable sausage casing he dressed her in. When she tries to do ~*~fashion~*~ it usually seems like she just plucks an entire look directly off the runway, styling at all, with no attempt to make it her own. As far as I can tell, the closest thing she has to a signature look is like, a $13 club dress that came in a bag from Shein and porno makeup from 2012.
She has no personal sense of style, but more importantly, she seems to have no sense of her HERSELF.
Kim’s never looked confident or at ease a day in her adult life. Maybe it’s the il-fitting clothes, maybe it’s too much plastic surgery, maybe she’s always posing for a real (or imagined) camera, but she’s just a vapid, shell of a person who floats around adopting the style of whoever she’s dating or whatever someone puts in front of her.

Kim looks plastic and fake as usual. She doesn’t resemble or remind us of Elizabeth Taylor in any way.
I think Kim looks great. With her access to practically everything I wish she would dress like this more often. Of course she’s NOT Liz and anyone who uses this as an excuse to drag her is missing the point. The Kardashians have made a fortune off of society’s obsession with artifice and superficiality and with this look, the grift continues. The rest are ok.
Slough, Law Roach styled her for this event. Styling her is a step down for him, big time IMO but I have to admit she looked the best she ever has. And if anyone needs his style help, it’s her.
Law Roach deserves all the credit but even with his reputation, nothing opens fashion vaults like Kardashian coin. Kim would be best served by retro looks but since she needs to feed the social media coffers she’ll always fall back on trashy contemporary styles.

I’m sure she pays well and that’s incentive, but I wish archives would stop giving pieces to Kim. This is a straight column dress and it’s been stretched and altered beyond recognition so she can wear it. And it still doesn’t fit her.
Greta is so gorgeous and that dress is perfect on her. I love Mia as well.
Mia’s was my favorite along with Hunter’s . I loved both their dresses. I get that they’re trying to make this like a met gala but they gotta do a better backdrop than that sad beige curtain. And have a little walk up so the dresses can be seen in motion.

Same. It must be really hard to be married to an addict and be in the public eye. You can do it Jessica! Just dump him! And think she could either be single and free or find an actual hot man!
Oh same. She gets hotter by the year and he is… what you can see. And what redeeming qualities does he bring to the table at this point? He cheats and embarrasses her, and he looks like he is addicted to something.

I’m such a fan of Mia’s. I think that she’s done amazing projects and she has a very bright future ahead of her. I’m so glad she’s finally rid of that creep.
Emma is so chic, pretty, and cool that she effortlessly elevates that dress. On the other hand, even when Kim looks good, there’s still a cheap vibe to it. The same goes for her sister at the VS show and most other high-glam events.
Meanwhile, Charlize looks incredible because she’s gorgeous, statuesque, and completely indifferent to what people think.
As for the Biel-Timberlakes, they seem to be on a public relations mission to clean up Justin’s messy mishaps.
I really wish these houses would stop letting Kim borrow these archive pieces. She doesn’t respect them or take care of them, and love or hate that dress it is an important piece of fashion history not because of Elizabeth Taylor but because of who made it, and what they did for the brand and artistry of fashion. This piece is special and shouldn’t be lent out, especially to someone who doesn’t value it.
Side note I love Greta’s look.
I’m tired of seeing this trash get invited everywhere. They have no discernible talents. They are famous because their daddy defended a murderer and their mother wh*red Kim out via sex tape. If I were a respected actor, I’d be pissed I was forced into the same room with those people.

As Kim K ages she should soften her makeup. It’s making her look hard and older-not younger in any possible way.
