Vivienne Marcheline Jolie has officially dropped ‘Pitt’ from her legal name

It’s very moving to me that Angelina Jolie named one of her daughters after her mother, and that daughter turned out a lot like the grandmother she never knew. Angelina has spoken about that before, that Vivienne Marcheline is so much like Angelina’s mom, Marcheline Bertrand. Well, Vivienne’s middle name is staying put for the long haul, but Vivienne has officially dropped the “Pitt” surname completely. Back in July, just eight days after turning 18 years old, Vivienne hired a lawyer and petitioned the court to drop her father’s surname. It’s a months-long process, and it was just finalized on Monday.

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s daughter Vivienne has officially dropped her father’s famous last name. A Los Angeles judge granted the 18-year-old’s petition to legally change her name from Vivienne Marcheline Jolie-Pitt to Vivienne Marcheline Jolie during a hearing Monday, Page Six can exclusively confirm.

Vivienne’s attorney, Peter Kenneth Levine, appeared remotely for Monday morning’s hearing.

Judge Virginia Keeny, who presided over the hearing at Los Angeles Superior Court’s Stanley Mosk Courthouse, read aloud the names of those whose name change petitions had been approved.

The judge explained, “These are name change petitions, which are going to be granted. That means that I can read the information provided and sign a decree, and you’ll be able to get a copy of the decree in possibly one week in Room 112 in the first floor of this building, the Stanley Mosk Courthouse. So if you hear your name, you can sign off, and you can get your paperwork in a week. I’m going to read both the last name and also the last four numbers of the case,” she said.

“There being no objections, the petition for change of name is granted,” the Nov. 2 minute order states.

“The Decree is signed and filed,” the order continues. “The Petitioner’s name is changed from Vivienne Marcheline Jolie-Pitt to Vivienne Marcheline Jolie.”

Vivienne initially filed her petition on July 20, just eight days after celebrating her 18th birthday alongside her twin brother, Knox. In court documents obtained by Page Six at the time, the teenager cited “personal” reasons for wanting to remove “Pitt” from her surname. Vivienne has already been publicly using her mother’s last name for more than two years.

Vivienne is now the fourth kid to complete this name-change process. Shiloh was the first, in 2024, and then Maddox and Zahara filed their name-change petitions a few months before Vivienne, and their new names became legal in September. Knox and Pax are the only ones who haven’t gone the legal route (yet), although we’ve heard that Knox has dropped “Pitt” socially for years. All of this is just an FYI – I assume “sources close to Brad Pitt” are going to pull the same move for Vivienne’s name change, meaning “scream and cry about how Angelina alienated the kids from Brad.” Brad sees zero connection between the kids hating him and his 2016 plane assault or his decade-long campaign against Angelina.

PS… Vivienne was selling her sweet little drawings and watercolors at another LA street fair last week. Knox came out to support his twin sister again.

What surprises me is that the kids all need lawyers to do this? I know a few people who’ve legally changed their names but they all did it without legal assistance.

Where do you see that a lawyer was involved in this? I don’t see any mention of that?

    • BrackenSweetwater says:

Well, they got the money for it. Why not just hire a lawyer to do all the paperwork and schedule all the court stuff, and all they have to do or think about is signing their name and being in the appointed place at the appointed time.

I hope that story about him trying to get friends to reach out to the kids isn’t true. Just leave them alone until you are ready to actually make amends Brad.

Based on the unfortunately leaked post of Pax’s several years back, I can’t help but wonder if he’s already changed his name and it just didn’t make the news somehow. Maybe he’s happy to just ignore it, but considering so many of the other kids have gone the legal route and the anger that leaked post supposedly directed Pitt’s way, it would make sense to me.

I planned to pursue adult adoption with my grandmother – who I had long-considered my actual mother – as a way to remove my own mother, her daughter, from my birth certificate. Unfortunately, my grandmother passed away before we managed it, but that was the plan. It doesn’t change I feel, certainly, but I understand the desire to separate yourself from an abusive, neglectful, or otherwise unpleasant parent and hope the name changes have given the kids what they were hoping it would.

Cue gnashing of teeth and wailing ….

I have been on my therapy journey as an adult, and it is very interesting how once you’re co-dependant, how you attract narcissists for your entire life if you don’t deal with the reasons at an early age, so, I’m happy that Angelina promoted therapy early, likely on cue from her own childhood, to give these kids a fighting chance at healthy relationships and boundary setting.

Of course the domestic violence perpetrator Brad Pitt and his PR will attack the kids name change by blaming the mother her abused & once again dismissively will act he never abused these children and chose not have any relationship with them, yet gets his PR to used parental alienation slurs against Angelina Jolie

  6. LOL says:

Nobody cares for these child abuse victims and instead support their domestic violence perpetrator father Brad Pitt, once again he will put out parental alienation accusations & will act like these children if they want to can come and beg for his attention. Otherwise he seriously doesn’t care

It bothers me that the caption in that photo (from the Daily Mail of course) describes the twins as nepo babies. Why? She’s selling her art at a street fair she hasn’t got a gallery pushing her stuff just because she has a famous parent. It’s a derisive term and should be reserved for those kids who truly are doing nothing but trying to profit off their parents fame.

And let’s face it, most people wouldn’t recognize her especially without the context of her being with her mom. No one’s rushing up to her to buy her work because of who she is.
