Jessica Simpson’s baby TMI commences: Maxwell is “eating like a champ”

Jessica Simpson

So I’m sort of laughing because I just got an email from Kaiser that reads, “And so it begins…” — which is, of course, in reference to Jessica Simpson’s inevitable, post-pregnancy TMI. It turns out that even without Jessica’s direct involvement (she’s obviously still in recovery), there are already stories about her childbirth process (just like Kaiser totally predicted this would happen). In particular, TMZ claims to have photos of the Cedars-Sinai VIP suite in which Jessica gave birth. The alleged arrangements are rather luxe and virtually stomp all over what In Touch claimed would be a mere $2800 per day birthing suite. In fact, TMZ claims that Jessica has spent $3784 per day on a 3-bedroom, 2-bath suite that puts Beyonce’s $3,200 per night suite to shame. Well, a new Us Weekly story aims to refute any claim of an extravagant birthing suite and also goes into lovely (read: overkill) detail about baby Maxwell’s immediately established eating habits. Gird your stomachs, y’all:

Maxwell Drew Johnson has a maximum appetite!

Just one day old, Jessica Simpson’s baby daughter (who weighed 9 lbs. 13 oz. at birth) is “eating like a champ and has a big appetite” while staying with mom at the hospital, a source tells Us Weekly.

“The birth went smoothly,” adds the source of Maxwell, born Tuesday morning at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.

The singer/designer, 31, and fiance Eric Johnson “are over the moon about the baby,” the insider says.

Although she’s set to remain at the hospital for “the next few days” to recover, Simpson “is already up and walking around,” the source adds — and bonding with her little girl.

“Everyone is marveling at what a natural Jessica is,” the source tells Us. “She was born to be a mom!”

As previously reported, Simpson’s family — parents Joe and Tina, sister Ashlee — and Johnson’s parents were in the hospital for the baby’s birth. “That’s how Jessica and Eric wanted it,” explains the insider

One rumor that’s apparently unfounded: TMZ’s claim that Simpson et al are ensconced in a super-luxe birthing suite costing nearly $3,800 a night (more than the $3,200-a-night NYC suite used by Beyonce and Blue Ivy Carter n January).

“She does have a suite at Cedars, but it is definitely not in the $4,000 a night price range,” the insider says.

Gushed Simpson and former NFL pro Johnson, 32, in their Tuesday birth announcement: “We are so grateful for all of the love, support and prayers we have received. This has been the greatest experience of our lives!”

[From Us Magazine]

So obviously, the “source” that Us Weekly spoke with was Papa Joe, right? And you know he was totally there and watching Maxwell doing her “eating like a champ” routine. At first, I was slightly skeptical that Jessica was able to breastfeed so early (it took three days before I was able to with my daughter) after just giving birth on Tuesday morning, but it seems that it’s perfectly normal to do so on the first day (if you’re lucky!). Kaiser also adds that since Jessica was pregnant for at least eleven months, it’s amazing that Maxwell didn’t come out speaking full sentences. And I’d like to add that it’s a bloody miracle that Maxwell didn’t arrive and immediately request deep-fried Oreos from the menu. Good gawd, I still can never imagine eating crap like that, pregnant or not.

Who cares what she spent? If I could afford it, I would too!

    • Kel says:

Right! I’m sure she’s not the only celebrity that has used it or will use it in the future. How come the media picks on her? She has a million dollar fashion empire. She can afford to give birth in luxury if she wants.

    • MJ says:

Conisdering the cost of a hospital bed in the US, a luxury birthing suite doesn’t seem ridiculous for a woman as wealthy as Jessica.

I also don’t mind the TMI. I think it’s endearing, and sheds some light on the not-so-glamourous parts of being pregnant. It’s gross, but it’s a part of life.

Edited to add: breasfeeding is definitely not gross – I mean the other comments re: Swamp Ass, amneotic fluid and the big “O”.

      • Samigirl says:

Are hospital rooms really that expensive? My 3 day stay cost us $400 and some change. About the same price you’d pay for a few days at a better than ok hotel.

  2. Wif says:

I’ve never heard of Maxwell for a girl’s name. Odd choice.

    • P.J. says:

Both Maxwell and Drew are boys’ names, aren’t they? Drew is a nickname for Andrew. Maybe they’ll call her Max!

      • Rory says:

Ashley, Courtney, Whitney, Evelyn, Vivian and Beverley were also boys’ names. So was Cameron. I think anything goes these days. I went to school with a guy named Lynne. Yep.

      • MorticiansDoItDeader says:

My mom’s OB was a man named Courtney. After 5 miscarriages and a stillbirth, my mom was so thrilled he delivered me safely that she gave me the middle name Courtney. I’m just thrilled he wasn’t named Bob!

      • call_in says:

I’m a girl Collin. I went to high school with a girls named Evan and Reed and a guy named Loren. It’s a free for all!

  3. Mew says:

I hope she doesn’t feed the baby like she fed herself while being pregnant…..

  4. I.want.shoes says:

    Breastfeeding is hard!

Her breast were already huge just prior to giving birth so I can’t imagine how much bigger they’ll get once her milk comes in.

    • Jill says:

I second that breastfeeding can be very hard. It comes perfectly naturally to some babies/mommies and it takes a whole lotta work for others! ๐Ÿ™‚

    • ol cranky says:

Good thing she’s doing well, it’s often harder for women with fuller breasts (as in large & full shape prior to pregnancy) to breastfeed because babies sometimes have problems latching correctly.

    • Twitchany says:

Tell me about it! My son is about to be 5 months on Tuesday and I am exclusively breastfeeding and it was easy but rough.

Oh man the milk came in fast and an over supply and I already had dd boobs. Now I am a g. He had latching issues due to the size and a “tongue-tie”. Better now, and going strong, but I miss my clothes ๐Ÿ™

  5. Gia says:

3 days to breast feed your baby??? They stuck my son on my boob the second he came out! I don’t think ‘eating like a champ” is tmi. It’s sort of the first big milestone for a baby and mom…is he latching? Is he feeding? And it feels really good when it all goes smooth. Some mothers have a lot of trouble with the latch alone!

    • MorticiansDoItDeader says:

I know. I was a bit confused by it taking CB three days to breastfeed. Perhaps she means her milk didn’t come in for three days?

My sons took to nursing immediately too and I don’t think that’s TMI either.

I would, however, like to know if she had a C-section because that’s a pretty big baby for a first time mom to push out the old fashioned way.

      • Franny says:

        *Bedhead ๐Ÿ™‚

      • MorticiansDoItDeader says:

        Oops. Bedhead. Thanks @Franny.

      • the original bellaluna says:

Hey Mort! Yeah, breastfeeding can be painful and hard to learn. But as soon as I was out of recovery from my C-section, I was nursing.

And if Jess is recovering for 3 days, she had a C-section. They boot you after 24 hours for natural births, unless there are complications. 3 days is the norm for C-sections.

      • OriginalTiffany says:

While my first daughter sucked and sucked with no issues, my milk didn’t come in for 5 days. Some colostrum, but no milk. Was frantic. Baby lost weight and all was fine when it finally came in.

It is normal for proper milk to come in days later, the baby feeds on colostrum during the first bit. MOST women do NOT have “milk” the first day.

Another reason newborns LOSE weight during the first week of life. Not arguing that babies don’t latch and nurse from moment one. Mine sure did, there just wasn’t much in the tank for the first few days.

      • Belle says:

I don’t think they boot wealthy self-pay customers(; Most women are booted because they only stay as long as their insurance will cover. If a patient feels like they aren’t ready to go home and needs another night or two, and is prepared to pay the extra costs, most doctors would have no problem with that.

    • mommaq says:

All of my children nursed well right in the delivery room. Stating that baby is eating like a champ is not TMI.

    • Samigirl says:

Same here with my daughter. They didn’t even clean her off before they put her on my chest. She came out hungry and latched before I even knew what she was doing! Day 6, and she nurses for 45 minutes…and I definitely don’t think that’s TMI, I just consider it very proud bragging =)

      • OriginalTiffany says:

The new one? Yay for you! I’ve been spotty on here lately. Living in San Diego right now has drawn me outside much more than London weather:)
Congrats! Best minutes of my life were nursing right after birth. Brings a tear to my eye, thank God my kids still love on me like little ones still:)
I miss nursing what a special time, be well you and your little one.
*sniff* finished hair and a little makeup on my little(not) girl today, not a baby anymore…

    • Linney says:

Yeah, when I read TMI, I expected serious details, not just that she’s eating well. If she’s in the hospital for a good 5 days, I’m guessing c-section.

      • jano1981 says:

I was expecting something, not eating like a champ! In what world is that tmi???

    • Jess says:

Nothing about breastfeeding should be TMI, in fact the problem is that most people don’t have ENOUGH information. While the milk doesn’t “come in” for 3-5 days, the baby has a stomach the size of a marble and collostrum is all that is needed for the first couple of days. In order for one’s milk to be sure to come in, you need to put the baby to the breast immediately after birth if possible and every 2 or 3 hours around the clock. During that time, supplementing with formula should be avoided.

Eating like a champ is good news FFS!!

      • Isa says:

My son was in the NICU for poor feeding issues among other things. They let me try to breast feed him once, and he rejected me. So I had to pump for a week before I could bring him home. Until then they put a feeding tube in and was forcing him to eat 2.5 ounces every 3 hours! Yea, I’m still mad.

      • Linney says:

There are definitely some things that can be TMI. Knowing Jessica, I expected nipple updates and whatnot. I can get all my info on breastfeeding from someone other than Jessica Simpson, thanks.

      • OriginalTiffany says:

Girls-after 20 years in hospitals I know they WILL give your baby a bottle if you do not make SURE they don’t. As in handwritten signs all over, like never letting baby out of your sight.
They were going to take my girl and put her in the nursery for the night thinking I was tired after 72 hours of labor-I was. But I ranted and raved and made them give me the baby and let me nurse. (slight fever for me, my water was broken for 20 hours-should have had a C).
I never regretted it, even during the long days with no milk in yet, we persevered and she became the best nurser ever after my milk came in. I nursed her through my next pregnancy-ouch! Practically had to beat her off with a stick to wean her:)
        Bottom line-nursery equals bottle.

      • MorticiansDoItDeader says:

        Hey bells!

I thought c-section too. Here in NJ we get 48 hours in the hospital after a vaginal birth. So I thought it was possible that Jess had a vaginal birth but, you’re in CA so you would know how it works there! Also, I hear breastfeeding is extra tough after a c-section (since breastfeeding causes more severe uterine contractions). Good for you for sticking with it.

@originaltiff, you are so right about the formula pushing. The nurses kept telling me I should give my kids a little formula so I could get some rest. I told them no formula under any circumstances. Both my sons roomed in with me and slept in my bed (attached to my breast). After my first son was born they told me he wasn’t allowed to sleep with me, but when I had my second son (in the same hospital) they didn’t say a word about the co-sleeping.

  6. lassie says:

She needs to cut that blonde, lank hair. It looks so dead on the ends. She would look cute with a bob.

  7. Zelda says:

Shut up. Shut UP. Shut UUUUUP for five f*cking seconds, will you, Jessica Simpson?* When I’m in serious need of a banal, insipid soundbite, I’ll call you, okay?

*The “source” is almost always the star’s publicist, so it counts.

    • Camille (The original) says:

I so agree! I’m so tired of this vapid, no talent idiot. I don’t know why people seem to like this twit. smh

I called that the over sharing would start in 3…2….1.. the other day, but it actually came faster than I expected *eye roll*.
Well I expect there will be several months of baby TMI and then she’ll start going on and on about her ‘amazing weight loss’ (via plastic surgery no doubt, but will be attributed to BF), complete with a cover on some crap tabloid with her in a tiny bikini for the reveal *eye roll*. Watch this space.

I think this will be my last JSimpleton post. Ugh.

  8. RuddyZooKeeper says:

So if she’s up walking around, that means no C-section, right? Ouch.

    • Jessica says:

No they make you have a BM and force you to walk around when you have a c-section to make sure you don’t pop back open when you strain or walk. I had 2 c-sections. Uh oh.. another Jessica giving tmi! lol

      • mar says:

yes, you are correct, they make you walk around, I had a very hard recovery from my C- Section, but my best friend had one too and she was walking around like nothing happened.

    • the original bellaluna says:

Oh no, they haul your sawed-in-half ass out of bed and have you walk the ward, IV pole in tow. It’s FABULOUS. *sarcasm*

      • OriginalTiffany says:

        We are good at that:)
I had an emergency hysterectomy at 35. Cut a huge hole in my bladder, thanks doc. Anyway, I was having to drag my sorry cut up ass all over to get to the bathroom that night.
        Nice.

  9. Lana Moon says:

Kind of funny/strange really that JS owns a fashion empire, apparently, has no fashion sense and clearly doesn’t own a mirror. JS is just so BLAH…

  10. Labyrinth says:

3,2,1 before pimp daddy joe brings out the sexy momma maternity lingerie line! Then the Jessica Simpson baby clothes and accessories line cos that’s how they roll. Can’t have a baby without cashing in y’all!

  11. Agnes says:

i don’t think this is TMI at all. chill out. ๐Ÿ™‚

  12. Jenna says:

Sign me up as another one that doesn’t think it’s TMI. Here I thought she was going to say something about the baby’s diapers changes or among that line. ๐Ÿ˜€

    • Andria says:

Or, um, the state of things in the “exit” area. There’s plenty of ways to go TMI after having a baby, but how well the baby is eating isn’t one. It’s basically a way of saying that the baby is healthy.

  13. LeeLoo says:

COME ON!!!! STFU!!!! Can we get to at least 6 weeks before we hear anything about Jessica’s baby?! Can she stfu for 10 seconds?

  14. mojoman says:

I think it’s awesome that the baby can latch on so fast but what I really am amazed about is how she could still walk on that ugly wooden clogs (last pic) without losing her balance. If it were me, I would have stumbled, fell flat on my face and rolled down the road like a big drum.

  15. Laurenjen says:

THIS MOTHER SOW DID NOT HAVE A WILBUR

  16. SleepySmurf says:

you know..in the second picture…I swear…she looks just like her ex-husband with long blonde hair!
