With each new Halle Berry story, I begin by scrolling through the inevitable hit job from TMZ or People and think to myself, “What fresh hell is this?” Everyone on earth knew that Halle Berry-getting-divorced was going to end up being a huge mess. But did we know it would turn messy SO quickly? Let’s break it down.
Halle filed for divorce AGAIN. She filed divorce papers on Monday, but she used a series of aliases to protect her identity, and there’s some question about the legality of that move. Then Olivier followed up Halle’s questionable divorce paperwork with his own filing on Tuesday, and he used everybody’s legal names. Then Halle filed for divorce AGAIN on Wednesday, this time using the correct names. Everything else about the paperwork is the same, she just used the real names. She’s still “asking for custody based on the ‘best interests’ of 2-year-old Maceo.” And she’s still asking that their prenup be enforced. TMZ notes: “So now Halle has made it clear she wants to be the petitioner and NOT him. So a fight seems to be brewing.” YA THINK?
Spousal support. Given the competing narratives and dueling divorce filings, I sort of missed part of this. Halle is asking the court that the prenup be enforced completely, which means that she doesn’t want spousal support from Olivier and she doesn’t want to give him any financial support either. Olivier’s filing is different – it seems he’s letting the court know that he’ll be asking for spousal support. Damn, bruh. That’s just going to piss her off even more.
Olivier has such a temper. In case you didn’t “get” the message from Team Halle the first time around, “sources” once again went to People Magazine to bitch about Olivier’s terrible temper. A source tells People: “Oliver comes from a world where he was easily intimidated by her ability to work and that she was the breadwinner. He was emasculated by her beauty and her power, and his temper could erupt. He was never physically abusive towards her. He was very possessive in a very kind of caveman way but was never abusive to her or the family… He had an explosive temper in a way that was profoundly frightening. You never knew when he would explode.” Team Halle is writing a Harlequin romance about this, about Halle’s unending beauty and how it destroys men’s souls. When Squinty Met Crazy.
Anger management issues. The source also tells People: “Olivier has definite anger management issues. I think this was coming for a long time and [Berry was] not wanting to have to do this.” Olivier’s “unpredictable temper” meant that he was “unnerving to live with.” But Poor Brave Halle is fine, just “sad, very sad.”
Much like everything that went down with Gabriel Aubry, Halle consistently overplays her hand. I don’t know if she truly believes that everyone thinks she walks on water, but she definitely believes that if she throws enough dirt on Olivier, everyone will be on her side and no one will see through her machinations. That’s one thing that always bugged me about Halle: she’s really obvious. She threw everything she had at Gabriel and he still didn’t back down and it just made her even angrier, so she slammed him some more in the press. She’s incapable of playing a long game, of taking a hit now so she’ll win the battle in the future. Add to that her pettiness and her own need for drama, it’s sort of a wonder that Halle and Olivier didn’t realize that they were perfect for one another.
As for what’s being said about Olivier… I mean, I believe that he’s a temperamental douche. But that doesn’t negate the fact that Halle is a temperamental douche as well.

She said a similar thing about Gabriel A. But what I think is the opposite. The men are not emasculated by her money-making ability. Rather SHE EMASCULATES THEM. SHE DISRESPECTS THEM. SHE UNDERMINES THEM IN FRONT OF THEIR CHILDREN/FREIENDS/FAMILY.She has no idea how to live with a man. In that crazy head of hers she thinks a man is not a man if he is not making mucho money!!! Now THAT I took notice of !!! That’s when I first realized Olivier had temper issues, and I hated that he punched Gabriel….not a good way or an intelligent way to handle anything. From this incident, I gathered that Olivier was also not that bright…anyway, yes, he’s certainly dated long term several other high profile women who have careers and make lots of money, so why should Halle be any different? He was a BAD choice to begin with. She seems to make bad choices with men, although I somehow liked Gabriel the best. Maybe she should stay single for some years before another marriage & divorce–ya think??

Where do you get she asking for joint custody? In the paper work she not asking for joint or full physical custody, but wants what’s in the best interest for the child.
Which seemd odd at first but makes sense now. Her lawyer probably advised her of that because of the whole Gabriel thing. Now she’s putting out all of these stories about his temper and there is video evidence and physical evidence of that. I’m guessing she’s hoping that the judge will see that and give her physical custody and him visitation rights, all while keeping her image clean of not being difficult when it comes to her child.

I agree that she has issues. I think she has severe issues that have not been properly dealt with and have a huge impact on her perception of things. In that regard, she has my sympathy. The problem is she comes back so hard and so over the top that she becomes the bad guy. I think her perceptions lead her to believe she is a victim even at times when she isn’t. That makes it hard to take her side. She has given just as much as she has gotten Unfortunately she gives it to guys who, in my uninformed (obviously) opinion, seemed like they really loved her and treated her well. She is simply incapable of seeing that.
I wonder whatever possessed Halle to marry Olivier in the first place. She should know by now, that romantic relationships can go south, pretty quickly, she’s been in enough of them! Even getting pregnant, it’s not like this is the 1950’s, and she would have been labelled a scarlet woman for having a child, while not married. That’s the thing that drives me crazy about her. At one point, Halle made a failed bid to convince the courts that Nahla would be better off in France (i.e., half a planet away from her father) because of less paparazzi. My guess is that Halle tried to strengthen her case by marrying French citizen Olivier (two-parent home in civilized France for Nahla vs single dad in pap-crazy America) and upped the stakes by having another baby.
The marriage was doomed from day one. Only a few days after filing and already the gloves are off — this is going to be EPIC. I think Olivier is a complete douche, but probably the lesser of two evils in this couple.

What is sad is that somehow they are still throwing shade at Gabriel. On TMZ (I know, they kiss Halle’s behind all the time) one post claims that OM wants to share custody with Halle so he avoids the bitterness he witnessed between Halle and Gabriel and the “damage” that was done to Nahla. Bitch please. When did Gabriel ever ask for anything BUT joint custody? The fight was because Halle wanted to cut Gabriel out of Nahla’s life completely – and incidentally, pay no child support. Not sure whether the power trip or the money was the bigger issue, but the fact is that he never asked for more than to be an equal parent and trying to portray it as something else is a lie.

Yes. He did. And the judge awarded it, as is customary when one ex-partner has a much higher income than the other. But Oliver’s comment wasn’t about money -it was about how he is asking for joint custody only, as if Gabriel had ever asked for more, and look how much nicer Oliver is now, playing along by the rules. (I have a sneaking suspicion he will ask for support too, because he may be an actor but he still doesn’t make Halle level money, at least not in the two years they have been together. And if she wants the kids to have the same lifestyle when they are with the fathers, the court will end up ordering her to pay, it’s just how it’s done.)
Considering he could have sued Oliver and Halle for beating him senseless and ruining his face she damn well should have supported him.
