Paris Hilton has been dating Austrian “entrepreneur” Thomas Gross for about six or seven months now. Gross is reportedly very wealthy, and he’s only 39 years old (Paris is 34). When their relationship was only 2 months’ old, Paris was already calling Gross her “soulmate.” But I have to say, this doesn’t have the stink of Paris’s typical relationships – Gross is barely featured on her social media, and while she has talked publicly about him, it doesn’t feel “extra.” Like, Paris might actually be in a mature relationship with a guy who has his own stuff going on. He’s not at her beck and call, and he supports her “career” as a deejay. Anyway, Paris has already moved in with Gross – they live together in his home in Switzerland, and Paris has a D-visa. But now she wants Swiss citizenship. So… good news, America! Paris Hilton no longer wants to be American.
Paris Hilton wants to trade in her “Simple Life” — for a Swiss one. The hotel heiress is making moves to permanently call Switzerland home so she continue living with her millionaire Austrian boyfriend in the town of Schwyz, a well-known tax haven.
“I just love everything about this country,” she yodeled to German-language tabloid Blick. “The people are so lovely, the food is excellent and the scenery beautiful.”
The hotel heiress already has a long-term D visa, which she received in November, but she’s hoping to get more.
“I want to be Swiss,” she told Blick, but admitted she hasn’t visited many parts of the country.
News of Hilton’s plan to leave the US excited some eager to get rid of the reality TV star.
“Please take her and the Kardashians too,” one commenter wrote on The Local. Another begged local officials: “Don’t fast-track this one!”
I have a friend who lived in Switzerland for several years and she said that life in Switzerland is very, very particular and it’s almost like everyone is on their best behavior at all times. No one violates the unspoken social order and it’s as if everyone is the tightest of tight-asses. What I’m saying is that Paris Hilton better keep her nose clean if she’s going to be living in Switzerland full time. I suspect that Gross has enough money to “take care” of most of those petty concerns, but still… I doubt Paris is going to fit in with Swiss society for very long.

Of course she wants to be a swiss citizen. Income tax rates this low, ka-ching!
I kind of hate to say this, but the girl hit the billion dollar mark several years back. I think she’s got her business sense as well as a lot of understanding of what her “brand” is, and she is savvy about it in a way that the American public just isn’t aware of. She is huge internationally.. she is a bit of a wonder to me. On one hand, I can’t stand her, but I actually find myself– what is the word — respecting(?) her.
I feel like my hand is going to burn off typing that.
She made her money just like her parents made their own money. It bugs me when they call her a hotel heiress. SHE’S NOT A HOTEL HEIRESS. She is a real estate investment heiress and a clothing and household items heiress. Kathy and Rick Hilton made their fortune in real estate sales and investment. Then Kathy started selling stuff on QVC. Nothing to do with hotels.
Yep, you’re spot on.
Many non-Swiss celebrities live in Switzerland, among them Tina Turner, Roger Moore, Shania Twain, James Blunt, Phil Collins, Michael Schumacher, Lewis Hamilton (and some more F1 racers)…
And aside from the low taxes it’s a really beautiful and safe place to live and close to Italy, France (South of France), Germany and Austria. I like.
Good-bye! Sorry, Switzerland. Very, very sorry. But, good-bye!
Yup and take a couple Kardashians with u.
Just goes to show you that you can live a vapid, useless and unproductive life anywhere.
Indeed.
“Paris Hilton-Gross” Hmmm……. too easy
HAHAHHHA! I’m surprised nobody else went there.
Fun Fact: Switzerland did not give women the right to vote in Federal elections until 1971. And women did not get the right to vote on local issues until 1991.
Paris may discover she doesn’t have the rights she had in the USA, so we’ll see how long her desire to be a Swiss citizen lasts.
She cares more about shopping than voting.
The women could not vote in Switzerland on local issue until 1991: that was only in one small rural “demi-canton”, Appenzell (but i can’t remember which one – there are two demi-cantons Appenzell) and it’s true that the government had to force them to give the right to vote to women, declaring this ban unconstitutionnal. (In Appenzell, they (the men) still voted by traditionally raising a sword..). In the 25 others cantons, women got the right to vote between 1959 and 1972.
Sorry for the mistakes, I’m french speaking (and Swiss!)
LMAO
What have the Swiss done to deserve her? I have lived there for nearly ten years and there are strict rules concerning citizenship although I guess having money helps. As would a Swiss husband. We are planning to apply for citizenship but for lesser mortals you have to be resident for ten years, speak German/French/Italian fluently and be integrated in Swiss society.
And I can’t see her following the rules the way you are supposed to here (I’ve been in Switzerland for 10 years as well, and need to start working on getting the citizenship process started – I’d like to be able to vote where I live, you know?).
Imagine the interviews with her neighbours to see if she would fit into society!!
I agree with your statements. As far as my understanding goes, it is indeed quite difficult to become a Swiss citizen. They are very selective but, as you pointed out, money talks (like in neighbouring tax-haven Monaco). My SIL is married to a Swiss man and has lived there for many years. She shared stories of how extraordinarily hard it is to get lodging there, especially in cities. A lot of people I know who work in Switzerland actually live on the French outskirts to avoid a long line of bureaucracy.
I don’t like Paris in the least but I would not be cruel enough to wish her back to the U.S. How about Antarctica? 🙂
From what I just read online, if she marries the guy (assuming he is a citizen), she may be able to gain permanent resident status in six years instead of ten. I just don’t see this happening.
This! I’m sorry you’re having to wait so long, I know citizenship/immigration issues with Switzerland can be horrid. It’s so annoying to see a Hilton waltz in just because.
I have lost count at how many times she has been madly in love.
Swiss aren’t welcoming of immigrants especially in recent years. Even millionairs can’t get the citizenship as easily as in other countries.
Ok.
Bye. 🙋🏼
Go be some other countries problem. Take your wonky eye, your money, and your STD and don’t come back!
It’s a difficult country to get into, even for a celebrity, especially now. But it’s beautiful and so clean.
This is a great day for the United States .
LOL
🇺🇸
Merica!!!! 😀
Good luck with that. Not easy to get Swiss citizenship. Long ago you can have a Swiss parent but if you weren’t born there not happening. I suppose she could make it her legal residence and pay less tax like Lewis Hamilton. Whatever she is tired.
I was recovering from a surgery when her last reality show aired, so I watched it. I feel like I need to explain that I was laid up in bed on pain meds to justify that…
Anyway her relationship was a complete joke. Childish, dramatic, mean and yet cloying. She seemed horrible to be in a relationship with, plus the man she had chosen was a simpleton. She was also horrible to her assistant.
I don’t know why she let the cameras in on that mess. She must think it’s normal. To be honest, if she’s in an actual happy and healthy relationship then I can’t help but be glad for her. But I doubt this is a healthy relationship, she just doesn’t seem capable.
Odd. I assume she played it up for the cameras? I’ve read a lot of accounts that say that she’s actually really nice.
I have been there a few times on vacation! One of my favorite places on Earth.
What does D Visa mean, Douche Visa?
Please let the door hit you in the ass on the way out.
She looks like her aunt Kim in that Instagram picture.
I think she looks just like Kyle, even the way she is looking at her boyfriend.
So sorry Switzerland.
I don’t know about the D-visa but I know of the D-permit. D as in diplomat. Apart from diplomats it is given to people working for international organisations such as the UN, Cern etc. Last time I checked she was neither.
She might as well she already looks like Swiss Miss.
I feel like I actually learned a lot about the Swiss from a Paris Hilton article, who’d have known! 🙂
My boyfriend worked in Geneva and loved it but he’s a posh Toff who likes that square lifestyle (money and sterile image) and I know people who just moved back to Paris from there (an American and a Brit) they said it’s super expensive (for 600 rent in Paris you’ll pay 2,000 for the same in Switzerland). Anyway it seems like a quite down low little place that doesn’t do gauche new money types like Hilton, or that welcomes preofessional djs (bankers yes), so good luck with that. I would never want to move there but different strokes.
How old is that magazine cover?
Fassbender doesn’t have time for a girlfriend? Different story than Alicia is telling….
Next month she’ll want to be a martian and live on Mars.
Goodbye, Old Paint. Sorry Swissers, but hey! You guys can now have a National DJ.
It is a month old magazine cover. What took you so long to write about it?
She might be able to get permanent resident status, especially if she marries the guy and he has it. Would her jail/convictions record be an impediment to citizenship there, though? They have kept her out of certain countries in the past, but they might be reduced to misdemeanors by now if she’s off probation and hasn’t caused any trouble.
If she can work on citizenship, that would keep her quite busy for the next few years since the demands are tough. Would be a good thing for her and keep her away from her more toxic family and friends. Little Paris Hilton might be starting to grow up.
Reese Witherspoon would NEVER do this.
She YODELED? Did anyone else catch that? I almost spat out my water.
Please God make it happen …..
Switzerland seems pretty cool, HR Giger was a Swiss native and I was watching his documentary about his life through the end and his household seem so chill. His friends and companions all seem pretty down to earth and not snobby at all.
