Prince Andrew’s upcoming events in Northern Ireland are being cancelled, but not by him

Apparently, Prince Andrew made a public appearance last week, although there only seems to be one photo of him from a local outlet. He attended the Dartmouth Royal Regatta and his appearance seemed to have been rather muted. On the heels of that, there were some murmurs in high places that maybe it’s quite inappropriate for Andrew to be acting all “business as usual,” and that maybe, just maybe, he needs to cancel his appearances. Well… he has not. But charities and patronages are starting to cancel on him!

Several of Prince Andrew’s public engagements in Northern Ireland have been cancelled, as a direct result of recent publicity about his relationship with the disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein. Sky News understands that organisers withdrew their invitations, with one expressing concerns that his presence would “change the narrative” surrounding their event.

One of the events would have involved a ceremony at Portrush railway station which has just had a £5m upgrade. The other venues have not been confirmed by government officials for security reasons. The decision to cancel was taken by the hosts, rather than the Royal Household. The prince is still due to spend several days on the North Antrim coast, attending a youth golf tournament which bears his name. The annual Duke Of York Young Champions Trophy is being staged at Royal Portrush Golf Club.

Prince Andrew is a patron of the club, and in July he attended The 148th Open Golf Championship which returned to Portrush after an absence of 68 years. The Young Champions Trophy is an international competition featuring boys and girls under the age of 18, from 38 countries. The competition’s website boasts that future stars of the game including Rory McIlory have competed in the event since it was founded in 2001. Sky News understands that Royal Portrush’s committee have been warned that it would be inappropriate for the prince to attend next week’s event in light of the recent publicity.

[From Sky News]

Um, yeah – it would have a terrible visual to have Prince Andrew surrounded by under-18 teenage girls. Period, end of. It’s kind of interesting though – it really does seem like people are not eager to sweep this under the rug and “go along” with whatever narrative the Windsor spin machine tries to push. Those crisis talks must have gone quite poorly.

More photos are going to drop soon, and along with that a judge rules today on releasing more files from the prior Giuffre vs Maxwell proceedings.

Andy and his monster mummy are going to have a bad week.

    • Jen says:

      It’s about time.

    • Jen says:

      It’s about time!

    • (TheOG)@Jan90067 says:

HALLELUJAH!! I don’t want this Pedo POS to ever have a single moment’s peace of mind again! I want him to CONSTANTLY worry when and where the “next penny will drop”. He may not’ve been *as* evil as Epstein and Maxwell, but he was a VERY WILLING/COMPLICIT participant for over 2 decades! I hope he’s shunned everywhere!

    • Betsy says:

I feel like we have been waiting for this docs to drop and while public opinion =/= justice, I want them to start naming names. It is ridiculous that these dirtbag men and the women who helped procure the victims are skating!!!

  2. bamaborn says:

Well, they can expect a good tongue lashing from his mummy. How dare they?

    • Zapp Brannigan says:

Exactly the thinking of the Royal family, “how dare they (the little commoners that are beneath us)”

We are talking about a man who drove his range rover into a locked gate at Windsor Great Park to avoid taking a one-mile detour drive to his home. Consequences are long overdue for this man.

    • M. says:

Sad but true. Blood royals are always protected. The Queen and a lot of royal reporters rushed to either diminish this story or to defend Andrew. As you can see many people would rather focus on private jets instead of the Pedo Prince.

  3. Mego says:

It’s not pre #metoo world anymore. Sucks to be you Dookie.

    • Himmiefan says:

I’ve just been moderated by the Daily Mail! On Piers Morgan’s latest article, I commented that at least Meghan had not had sex with minors, referring of course to Andrew, and the DM said that they’ve had complaints! Oh the hypocrisy! LOL

      • BayTampaBay says:

@Himmiefanfan, Do not feel bad this has happened to me many times at The Daily Fail. Their comment moderation has no rhyme or reason and makes no sense.

      • himmiefan says:

Thanks Bay. I’m going to stay away from there for a while because when you roll in the dirt, you get dirty. I prefer Omid Scobie’s niceness.

  4. Torontoe says:

“The Prince is STILL due several days on the North Antrim coast, attending a youth golf tournament which bears his name.”
Maybe I have misread but it looks like for some reason they’ve cancelled him at a railroad but he is still going to an event with underage girls?!??! If so, how tone deaf and idiotic can he be?

    • (TheOG)@Jan90067 says:

It’s called “ENTITLED / PRIVELEDGE”… and apparently it cancels out tone deafness / idiocy in its host body.

    • notasugarhere says:

That’s how it reads to me. He’s still scheduled to attend several days of the youth event, although the event committee has been warned it is a bad idea. It is up to the committee to step up as the royals won’t. Or to stand up to the royals if they’re receiving pressure from the Windsors to keep Andrew on the schedule.

      • noway says:

The problem with the golf event is it has his name. The only way they could probably get out of him showing up if he decides to, and he doesn’t seem to be deciding that so he will be there. Who knows maybe the crisis people will say it’s better if you just don’t show. He’ll then catch a clue, but don’t count on it.

      • notasugarhere says:

It has the Duke of York title, but Andrew doesn’t own the event. If they don’t want him there, they are well within their rights to uninvite him. And to rename the event in the future if they want to.

      • Megan says:

Showing up at a youth event will only dig his grave deeper.

  5. Nanea says:

    Is The Firm completely tone-deaf?
Are they, or their PR people, still not able to read the mood of the public?

I think they just don’t care, because they seem to hope there won’t be consequences and nobody will ultimately hold the monarchy to account for offenses a lesser member of the family committed.

    • stokesout says:

They’re playing this the way they would have in 1982 or so. The Firm doesn’t understand how the culture has changed, how the media has changed, how you can’t just plays their patented old strategy of calling women “Nuts ‘n Sl*ts” to get rid of them.

They’ve never faced consequences. Liz has been coasting for decades on goodwill. Things are changing and they just. do. not. get it.

    • HK9 says:

Getting good professionals is a matter of money (which they have plenty of), and The Firm need to get rid of the PR people that they have and get ones that can actually help them. However, you also have to do what those professionals recommend, and since many members of The Firm seem to be petty, and don’t like to listen to good sense, I’m not sure they’d take the advice they’re given.

      • 10KTurtle says:

Maybe Meghan will loan him the crisis management guru for Harvey Weinstein who she supposed hired… [sarcasm, in case you can’t tell]

      • Taneesha says:

Sorry @10kTurtle but I find yr dry humor offensive. I can see right through yr thinly disguised attempt to tie Meghan to this crap and have a woman be blamed for white man’s crimes. Why is Meghan being tied to Weinstein? Do you have proof that Meg had anything to do with Weinstein and his crimes or if at all she is the one that hired the PR firm? Couldn’t you find it in yr heart to state that maybe BP should hire the PR team for him? You probably couldn’t help yrself 🙄🙄

      • Megan says:

Andrew is clearly ignoring the advice of his crisis team. Even the most incompetent PR person would tell him he cannot attend a youth event, even if it is named after him.

P.S. Meghan and Harry’s foundation hired the PR firm that launched Time’s Up to manage the launch of their US office. There is absolutely nothing scandalous about that.

    • Jen says:

They feel entitled to goodwill for being chosen by a higher power to reign and really feel they have made such sacrifices to serve their country- instead of recognizing that they are overly privileged do-littles. So no, I don’t think they can read or care about public mood.

    • Becks1 says:

      “Is the firm completely tone-deaf?”

      Apparently, yes, yes they are.

They should cancel all Andrew’s appearances. At the VERY LEAST, they should cancel any appearance involving young people. The fact that some of these organizations etc are canceling the appearances themselves should give the BRF a sense of how bad this is, but I just don’t get the feeling that they care.

    • noway says:

There is a PR theory if you show up and just do your work with your head down and don’t say a lot things will blow over. I think they are trying this, but it doesn’t seem to be working. I think whether or not he get convicted of any crime people are just kind of sick of him. He’s used all his second, third, and whatever chances.

  6. StarGreek says:

This seems a distraction from a distraction from another distraction.

There could be one million articles about Cambridges and Sussexes, Randy Andy is still a pedo and UK government still s*cks (See the debacle from yesterday).

Oh and let’s throw abolish the monarchy in it as well, for good measure.

    • Mignionette says:

The timing of Epstein has been very favorable for Andy. But for Brexit the UK would be in a favorable economic cycle with a more moderate Govt with full contempt for Trump. That dynamic would have surely seen Andy being thrown under the bus as a bargaining chip.

Alas in an alternate universe the earth is on its correct axis…

  7. Sarah says:

I don’t think he’ll ever see the inside of a jail but I really, really hope this disgusting story taints him for good. At the very least, he deserves to be stripped of his (undeserved) titles and banished from public life.

  8. jessamine says:

The more PA frantically grins the more I can’t unsee Wormtail from Harry Potter,

  9. OriginalLala says:

The BRF carrying on like its business-as-usual with Andy is totally gross. I can only hope this makes more people realize how truly disgusting that odious family is. At the very least no public money should be supporting this vile man anymore!

    • Digital Unicorn says:

Andrew will do as he pleases and Mummy will let him, its obvs that he is NOT taking advice from courtiers (his last statement proves it as he clearly wrote it himself). TQ and Andrew need to understand that this is not going to go away and they cannot carry on as normal – they need to address it head on. Andrew needs to answer for this. They think with the drama around Brexit thats going on they can hide behind that but thats not going to happen – esp as as someone said above, another tranche of evidence from VIrginia’s lawsuit is being ruled on today. A judge is likely to release more information – more evidence is clearly going to come about Andrew.

      • notasugarhere says:

I doubt the courtiers are pushing for Andrew to step back. Many of the courtiers are as tone deaf as the royals they work for.

      • (TheOG)@Jan90067 says:

TQ will let him/enable him for as long as possible, and even then some. Let’s not forget, she is an ostrich: she burrows her head in the sand and ignores, ignores, ignores until she is yanked out by the neck and “made” to see (ie: Diana’s death, and coming back from Balmoral to London due to Blair’s pressuring her).

      • Christin says:

Diana’s death comes to mind each time I read about how she ignores the obvious for as long as possible. Somehow her *finally* speaking a few words helped buy several years of goodwill for the family. Now her age seems to give her a pass.

Not every older person is sweet, harmless and faultless.

      • BayTampaBay says:

Should Andrew retreat to some desolate Scottish island or should he just retire from public life to Switzerland? What do my fellow CBers think would be best?

      • Becks1 says:

@Bay – I don’t know. At this point I would like for his legacy and reputation to be forever destroyed and for him to be a total pariah for the rest of his life. But I really just want to know everyone who was involved, what they knew, etc. I want this whole thing blown open so no one is protected anymore.

      • notasugarhere says:

Unless he is convicted, I doubt he’s going anywhere. It is up to people running events to refuse to have him there. If your local church festival is told Andrew is the royal you’re getting, you refuse and say you’ll do without a royal. For the UK trade relations group to tell the Windsors they want someone else, or they’ll go without a royal thanks. If the royals sideline him themselves, they’re admitting guilt.

      • Jaded says:

@BTB – this may simmer until Charles takes over the throne and then Andrew and his sleazy buffoon of an ex-wife will be tossed to the wolves.

  10. phlyfiremama says:

    #abolishthemonarchy

    • Himmiefan says:

Events and organizations are showing that they can carry on without the presence of royalty. That’s pretty bad for the RF.

  11. Gail says:

I hope to continue to see stories every day about this. You know pedo Andy is having major tantrums behind the palace walls, “make it stop!” He’s had everything handed to him his entire life, he surely cannot understand why his feet are being held to the fire now.
He’ll never see the inside of a jail cell, so I hope he and grifter Sarah spend the rest of their lives hanging their heads in shame, despised.

    • 10KTurtle says:

Yes- and keep posting that picture of him with his arm around the teenager in every article!

    • BearcatLawyer says:

Randy Andy and Sarah are completely unfamiliar with the concept of shame. Grifters gonna grift forever.

    • (TheOG)@Jan90067 says:

You have to KNOW what shame is, to feel it. It’s something Pedo and Freeloader have NEVER felt. Oh…they’ve been “caught” in situations, but everything goes on, “business as usual” for them until the next scandal.

I think Bea’s going to announce an engagement verrrrry soon, and or Eug a pregnancy, to try and shift the focus… at least, in THEIR minds.

      • BayTampaBay says:

@(TheOG), I think Beatrice and Eugenie both know there is not going to be any incident-diversion (not even QEII’s death) that will make the Andrew-Epstein mess go away.

      • (TheOG)@Jan90067 says:

I think people who have felt SO self-important and “elevated” all of their lives would feel that it will go away eventually, as it always does (up till now). The old “toss them some coins and they’ll go away” mentality.

      • Giddy says:

@(TheOG) I agree completely. I don’t think that either he or Sarah has a sense of shame. I think they both are probably irritated, and petulant over this little problem. But not truly worried. And never embarrassed or ashamed.

      • RoyalBlue says:

Eugenie has gone really quiet on Instagram now and I am not sure if it’s a summer holiday thing or a response to the brouhaha surrounding her father.

  12. Marjorie says:

Sooner rather than later Prince Charles will be king and he will throw Andrew out of the Royal Lodge and exile him to Switzerland. Chuck is going to make “royal” mean himself, his sons, his sister, and William’s kids. QEII isn’t going to do anything.

    • notasugarhere says:

Charles cannot throw Andrew out of Royal Lodge, because Charles doesn’t own it. Andrew has a legal lease with the Crown Estate which secured him RL for 75 years. After he passes, Beatrice and Eugenie inherit his lease through 2078. He paid for the reburbishment in exchange for rent for the duration, so he doesn’t pay annual rent and they won’t either.

Andrew is a Counsellor of State and required to live in the UK. There would have to be legal changes made to 1) remove him from the succession 2) remove him as Counsellor.

      • Lady D says:

        Can he quit, nota?

      • notasugarhere says:

Andrew willingly remove himself from the line of succession and walk away? He can, as long as the government agrees to it and passes the legislation.

To reiterate for the umpteenth time. The blatantly obvious posters who insist “Well if Harry and Meghan cannot take the racism, they should suck it up and walk away”? They are Meghan haters not Kate lovers, no matter how often they say otherwise. No Kate stan would want Andrew as Regent to George if something happened to William.

      • Digital Unicorn says:

@Nota – the chances of Andrew willingly walking away from the line of succession are as likely as us getting another Brexit vote! Regardless of what comes out he will never ever give up in position or his titles unless the gov force TQ to.

      • notasugarhere says:

Exactly. He wouldn’t go without a fight, an enormous sum of money a la Duke of Windsor, and legal assurances about B&E’s future roles, titles, places in the family.

    • noway says:

Yes, but Anne will not be in the mix. Just his sons and their families. Then when William becomes King it will just be his wife and kids. Honestly, it’s probably the only way it will survive there are just too many of them to support.

      • BayTampaBay says:

@noway, my gut feeling disagrees with you. IMPO, Anne will be a working Royal for as long as she cares to work for three reasons: 1) the UK public, (across all demographics) greatly respects her, 2) Anne and her brother have grown close since Diana’s death and 3) Anne gets on VERY well with Camilla as they both run in the same incestuous horsey set.

      • notasugarhere says:

        4) Anne does whatever the hell she wants

      • BayTampaBay says:

        5) and with a hell of a lot of effort and ROYAL class.

  13. Sam Louise says:

The Royal Family really should be ashamed of itself. Instead of cancelling Randy Andy’s charity events and other visits they keep acting as if it’s business as usual. It has been left to the charities to cancel his appearances. At least they have the good sense to tell him not come; the RF is tone deaf.

  14. Dulcinea says:

I feel sorry for his daughters. I wonder if they suffer abuse at his hands too!

  15. Myra says:

Where are the UNHINGED Brits crying about their Tax Payer money??? The photo of TQ and Andrew is disgusting

    • andrea says:

Question – would Andy be self-sufficient without tax payer money if he were exiled from the royal family? Does he have his own resources?

      • Tiffany says:

No because his resources died in jail.

      • notasugarhere says:

He has Royal Lodge at Windsor, without paying rent, through 2078. He owns the Swiss chalet outright. Do you think he has spent years as the “unofficial UK trade ambassador” without making financially-beneficial relationships with plenty of other questionable people?

      • andrea says:

He’s a freeloader, so who knows?

    • Lady D says:

I’d like to know how many people are no longer fans of her after that picture came out. I know there was a few here and I doubt we’re alone. Hopefully tens of thousands were just as disgusted as us, and wrote her off, too.

    • BayTampaBay says:

Spent the morning perusing comment sections at The Daily Fail and The Guardian, The commentariats of both publications were 100% UNHINGED Brits crying about their Tax Payer money spent on the “pedophile prince and his grifter wife” and worried that QEII has dementia and cannot/will not fight the fight that needs to be fought.

I love Celebitichy and it is my favorite blog but we all need to get out and peruse other sites with differing opinions to get a good grasp on what the “public” thinks. It makes it easier for me to defend Harry & Meghan,

      • bamaborn says:

BayTampaBay…I tried the Daily Fail, but those commentors give me a headache. Just have to take what you and others on this site say about them. Lol!

      • BayTampaBay says:

@bamaborn, Try the Guardian as the commentariat is global and above average in intelligence. The Guardian is pro-republic and center-left leaning but they have given a Meghan a fair shake. There is criticism of the Sussexes (especially Harry) but it is intelligent, well thought out and highly constructive.

    • hogtowngooner says:

They DGAF unless Meghan or a POC is using it.

      • BayTampaBay says:

Yes, many people from all demographics do GAF about Andrew being on the Royal payroll.

      • Jaded says:

Actually they do GAF. That’s why Andrew is running scared to mummy and being cancelled by a number of organizations that normally would welcome his presence.

  16. Myra says:

I hope Andrew is banned from ever entering the US or be arrested immediately

    • Mignionette says:

@Myra – I think the foreign office and Lawyers would already have strongly advised him never to set foot in the US again.

I’m hoping the French ramp up their investigations and he is also forced out of France.

      • notasugarhere says:

I don’t have high hopes on that one. The underage rape charges for David Matthews (Pip’s FIL) disappeared, and those was based in France.

    • Mrs.Krabapple says:

I doubt Andy will travel to any country that has extradition treaty with the USA (which is most of them). I think he’ll stay in a Britain where he will enjoy the protection of the royal family.

  17. Green Desert says:

The pictures of him smiling in the car with mummy make me sick.

  18. bamaborn says:

Taneesha…you haven’t gotten it yet? The Duchess of Sussex is tied to EVERYTHING. The sun didn’t shine today, it’s her fault. Mediocre pr having trouble protecting a pedo prince, definitely her fault. These people are beyond sick.

  19. andrea says:

The Fail has a piece about Prince Ped’s diary being void of any upcoming engagements/commitments for the forseeable future. Aren’t these engagements the basis for whatever income he receives and what are the implications if he is doing absolutely nada? I’m assuming that his security costs are paid by the taxpayer?

    • STEPHANIE says:

Prince Andrew never actually used the brf main site for his announcement of royal engagements. He usually posts it on his own separate site. One of the few royals who has his own

  20. blunt talker says:

That Piers Morgan-the turd with shitstains– keeps harping about Meghan/Harry modes of travel. He silent about Prince Andrew and the Brexit shambles. I really do not like this man. He is too old to be worrying about the Sussexes as many of the royal reporters are too old to discuss the younger royals in today’s world. They live in the past and haven’t learned a thing since Diana’s death. Piers is going to run into the wrong person and something ugly will happen-it always does. Harry has admitted he will do better and some modes of travel is for protection of his family. Has anyone forgot the threat made against Harry’s life by Nazis. Has anyone with an ounce of brains seen some of the vile and threatening comments made against Meg and Archie. Harry is doing what he needs to protect his family. I feel Meg and Harry will fly commercial if it is the two of them, but bringing baby Archie with them will probably require more secure travel plans.

  21. blunt talker says:

PS-I now wonder why Fergie stayed around having two girls herself. Probably to make sure they don’t get molested.

  22. LUIS says:

Should there more concrete evidence of his involvement, the less we’ll hear of him. I don’t the think he’ll ever be charged; but I do feel he’ll be banished from the public. That’s the royal way. His reputation will taint him and the royal family even though they won’t say anything at all.
