A facial steamer, toilet paper on eBay and the last Amazon post for a while

51Zwy580ToL._SL1000_
I have been debating whether to continue the Amazon posts during this crisis and I want to do one today to talk about this – a facial steamer. My mom has been coughing and is sick and I feel like I’ve had the worst flu and can’t clear my throat. Neither of us have had a fever. Knock wood I’m feeling moderately better, although it comes in waves. I ordered a facial steamer and she got one too. (She is in Florida. The one we ordered is out of stock so this is a different one.) We had one of these when I was growing up and it really helped when we were sick. It’s of course good for your skin but breathing in steam can also help treat bronchial issues if it comes to that for you or a loved one. Mine came Sunday and I’m using it every day. I also have the humidifier that I ordered back when we talked about that and it works great. I do feel like this steamer has helped me a little. It also comes with a set of little comedone extractors like Dr. Pimple Popper recommends. It has over 1,200 ratings, 4.6 stars and a C on Fakespot, making the adjusted rating still very good.

A warning, do not use the steamer on your couch or an unstable surface! Monday night I wasn’t paying attention and the boiling water went down my shirt and made for a very unpleasant night. (I have plenty of ice packs at home and it was uncomfortable but I’m fine now.) Only use it on a table or desk. After learning that tough lesson, I have it on my desk now.

Tylenol instead of Advil
I bought acetaminophen on Amazon, I got an off brand in little packets for cheap, but it’s sold out now. I read a report in the Guardian that the French health minister is recommending that people with symptoms do not take ibuprofen or other anti-inflammatories as the inflammatory response helps people fight viruses. Tylenol/paracetamol is recommended instead. That’s just one doctor’s take and may be based on incomplete information. My ex is German and he said that the German health minister said this is just anecdotal and if it was true they would have seen it with the other coronavirus infections in the past. Here’s an article from People Magazine with experts questioning it too. So don’t worry too much if you’re taking Advil or if it’s all you have. Update this is not intended to be medical advice. Only take medication on the advice of your doctor. Do not take Tylenol for more than ten days, do not take it with alcohol, and do not take if if you drink more than three drinks a day. (I do not drink.)

Off brand Dayquil
I have some off brand Dayquil I’m trying to limit to once a day as I only have one bottle, but I ordered some CVS brand tablets on eBay for a very reasonable price! I ordered them today and they’re coming Monday. I got 3 packs for $10 with shipping included. I also ordered some staples, like hair dye (ok I know that’s not a staple but I’m not going grey no matter how the world is faring), stevia and crackers from Walmart. Remember Walmart delivers too.

Where to get toilet paper
As for toilet paper, there’s some on Amazon but it’s not shipping for weeks. There are premium toilet paper delivery services, but the toilet paper isn’t arriving until next week and it’s so expensive! There’s a premium toilet paper delivery service called Peach that has 8 rolls for $24(!), which is all organic, three-ply, sustainably sourced, etc. They say orders will arrive March 27th earliest. (Update: choose “gift options” to buy it one time and not subscribe.) There’s another called No. 2 which will take around 7 business days after order. It’s 8 rolls for $17.50. Another premium toilet paper service, Who Gives a Crap, is all sold out.

Amazon_ToiletPaper
Because eBay thrives on competition, the markup on toilet paper isn’t as bad but it’s still high. A lot of it is industrial and bulk-sized rolls, including some that look like tissues. Here’s a link to 12 industrial-sized rolls for $30 which come by next Thursday. You can get 12 rolls of an Asian brand for $26 and they also come by next Thursday. Depending on how long you’re staying away from stores, your local shop may be replenished by then anyway.

As for my personal TP use, I’m trying to only use 2 squares when I pee. Also I still love my bidet but it’s sold out I’m sorry! It was a bitch to install on my own and I had to order a separate connector. You may have an easier time with it, I’m not usually handy with things.

We may do Amazon posts again soon as they’re a helpful source of income for us. Plus I love doing them honestly. We are incredibly privileged to work from home, to have a job that does not rely on working with the public, and to have income coming in. Ad revenue is dependent on the markets of course but it’s still coming in and we’ll be ok. If you want to help us and other online publishing companies, please turn off your ad blocker. I worked for about a year and a half to find the company we use now and they let us block republican ads and we don’t have ads with sound or automatic video. We do have more ads now, but they hopefully don’t obscure the content.

Those links to the luxury toilet paper companies are not affiliate links. If you buy anything from Amazon or eBay using the links above we get a small percentage and appreciate it.

Heya, first year nursing student just here to say that people should still be very careful taking Acetaminophen (Tylenol). It’s hard on the liver, not everyone should be taking it willy-nilly. And just fyi never take it with alcohol, not even post-alcohol as headache/hangover relief ‘cause it could still do serious damage.

Don’t get me wrong, I love when y’all suggest products, but please leave the medication advice for people to seek from their healthcare providers. Specially at this time people are panicked and some willing to try anything they think will help.

    • Celebitchy says:

Ok that’s a good point I will note in the article that I don’t drink and that you shouldn’t take it with alcohol.

      • Mtec says:

Thanks! I also realize i’m saying don’t take medical advice from the internet, but yet here I am giving medical advice over the internet lol. So please I encourage anyone reading this (and my original statement) to always question and do your own research on what is said on online mediums and better yet call your doctor if you’re ever concerned about taking/mixing any of the most common medications.

Baby wipes can be used instead of toilet paper. I am hoping Amazon comes through with my monthly subscribe and save, but I’m guessing some of those items won’t be available. Why are the supermarket shelves bare? Seriously. If anyone knows this, please respond.

Also, I have my bi-yearly medical check today. The office called yesterday to see if I was sick. I am not. When I asked why, I was told they aren’t seeing sick patients. Huh? So where do sick people go? Not everybody who is sick will have covid 19. I am going to call the pediatricians office this morning to see if they are open. My kids allergist is closed until Friday! So very frustrating.

    • Beth says:

Yes, just remember that wipes, even the ones marked flushable, should not actually be flushed.

    • Erinn says:

Yeah, don’t flush them. I’m fully suspecting my husband is going to be drug out to go plunge/snake because people are just flushing ANYTHING all willy nilly.

They might not clog the line right away. But they will eventually. Let’s not create reasons for people to have to come out of isolation.

The shelves are bare because of logical buying practices. The stores know how much they typically need to stock of something during a normal month. They’re not going to be hoarding large amounts of products that wouldn’t sell in a reasonable amount of time. So while there might not be actual supply shortages – a lot of businesses just don’t have extra stock kicking around.

      • Alice says:

I’d recommend Fohm to anyone out there! It’s a ph balanced foam you can squirt on to your regular toilet paper. Works like a wipe! Good luck out there everyone!

2 wks ago, when this started getting very serious, I called my dad’s doctor and told him I wasn’t comfortable bringing my dad into a hospital office for a blood pressure checkup; could we do the visit over the phone. And that’s what we did, during our “appt” time. I called in, and we discussed dad’s progress (I’d faxed over the bp chart I keep on my dad’s daily readings). We have another “appt” next week in the same manner.

I emailed my oncologist, because I was due for my blood work ( I reached my 5 yr. mark last June, and just graduated to blood checks every 2 mos. last Dec…yay!). Anyway… I emailed about 2 wks ago that I was VERY nervous about coming into the hospital, and he told me to come in on a Sat. or Sun., when it’s less crowded. Well… I emailed him again at the beginning of this week, and asked if I was healthy enough now to push the visit even further…till end of April/May. He answered back yes, emphatically, and ended the letter “stay safe, scary times”… SO reassuring! lol

My other Appt (with my hand dr. for a bone issue in both wrists) was outright cancelled.

Everyone at Celebitchy, stay safe. You are my sanity port every morning; you all are SO appreciated! My ad blockers will come off; I want to give any support I can! ❤️

The cashier at Target said that they typically restock in the morning so the earlier in the day you can go, the better selection there will be. Also that they stock for a typical day, not days with off the charts demand. So there will be outages.

Target had a lot of groceries when I was there (getting cat litter – that’s my panic buy, LOL). Aldi was so-so and only permitted one package of TP per customer. IDK if this would be the same elsewhere but I had to go to both yesterday and that was what I found.

So, I wanted to make a suggestion, though I just found out that they are sold out. I try to be green as much as possible, so I shop on Grove for green products, they also have 100% recycled 13 gallon trash bags, BTW. But here is their link for TP made from bamboo.
      https://www.grove.co/catalog/product/tree-free-bath-tissue
I have subscriptions on Grove and Target trying to be as green as possible! Grove has some great products!!
And yes, please do not flush personal wipes. I think some major cities have had some expensive issues with personal wipes with people thinking that they are biodegradable, but they are not.
Now Grove does have wipes and they claim that they are biodegradable, but I won’t take any chances and they are quite lovely. Bonus is that they plant a tree for each package sold and they are not sold out!!
      https://www.grove.co/catalog/product/flushable-wipes
Cheers to everyone and please stay healthy and safe. As for the TP shortage, I must apologize on behalf of my other half. I have no CLUE as to what he was thinking, but we have enough TP to last us for 3 years, I was scratching my head thinking, WTF Honey?

Celebitchy, I am so sorry you got burned with your steamer; I hate burns! Hope it heals very fast, & I hope you and your mom both feel better very soon!!

You can order a one time gift on Peach and get 16 rolls for 34 dollars.

I sincerely appreciate the Amazon posts and understand why you all need to adjust them during this time. I also own my own business and work from home. I’m a little nervous about how it’ll impact my business as it is nonprofit consulting that is primarily focused fund development via grants. Our team is watching to see what’s happening and I plan on calling my contacts at several of the regional foundations to gauge where they are.

  6. I found this interesting: Amazon has just released a statement that it is suspending delivery to them from vendors with non essential items until April 5. They instead are putting all their staff focus on obtaining and maintaining supplies for essential items (e.g., toilet paper, hand sanitizer) to offer customers. Said they expected to hire 100,000 new employees in total to work in their multiple fulfillment and distribution centers to help with the increase in orders.

    • Celebitchy says:

Thanks JA I will update with that!

-edit- Ok that’s a fake news article actually. I looked through their blog and couldn’t find it. It’s a misrepresentation of the measures they’re taking for covid.

It did come through official channels (I used to be a high volume seller) – here’s what I received from them on March 17. Just a note, “disabling shipment creation” means 3rd party sellers cannot send anything in to their warehouses. They say they are taking a similar approach with large retailers that sell on their platform.

        Hello from Fulfillment by Amazon,

We are closely monitoring the developments of COVID-19 and its impact on our customers, selling partners, and employees.

We are seeing increased online shopping, and as a result some products such as household staples and medical supplies are out of stock. With this in mind, we are temporarily prioritizing household staples, medical supplies, and other high-demand products coming into our fulfillment centers so that we can more quickly receive, restock, and deliver these products to customers.

For products other than these, we have temporarily disabled shipment creation. We are taking a similar approach with retail vendors.

This will be in effect today through April 5, 2020, and we will let you know once we resume regular operations. Shipments created before today will be received at fulfillment centers.

You can learn more about this on this Help page. Please note that Selling Partner Support does not have further guidance.

We understand this is a change to your business, and we did not take this decision lightly. We are working around the clock to increase capacity and yesterday announced that we are opening 100,000 new full- and part-time positions in our fulfillment centers across the US.

We appreciate your understanding as we prioritize the above products for our customers.

Thank you for your patience, and for participating in FBA.

        The Fulfillment by Amazon team

There are other infectious disease specialists recommending against using anti-inflammatories if you’ve been diagnosed with Corona virus. WHO is looking into it as well. So if you think you have the disease, and can live without taking anti-inflammatories, err on the side of caution.

    • Golly Gee says:

Edit: Just read an article about a four-year-old British girl with the coronavirus, who became immediately much worse after parents gave her ibuprofen. Her parents are trying to get the message out to stick with acetaminophen.

I am in Italy currently. North of Italy. (I know right!) I am in quarantine from work. It’s obligatory. I go out only for groceries. I was curious and checked for TP. There was plenty. The stores are pretty stocked. In the first days people went for….chips, chocolates, fruits. Now I see normal shopping patterns. Can’t understand this thing with toilet paper that’s happening in US. Shouldn’t people go for non perishable food???

Anyway. I like the Amazon posts. I like the skincare stuff as I am an ignorant when dealing with those.

    • Jules says:

the TP chaos is completely irrational. there would not have been a problem, but people made it a problem by bulk buying.

I’m interested in the Peach toilet paper but would like to know how many sheets you get per roll before buying. Does anybody know that info.? I can’t find it on the website.

  10. Mabs A'Mabbin says:

I’ve been reading about how big box locations are giving workers paid leave if they need it. When the stores are closed for restocking, they’re also cleaning and sanitizing. They’ve suspended signature requirements for pickups and asking customers to fully remain in cars while they load. And deliveries are being dropped off not requiring exchanges. And of course, any place delivering is hiring. A bit of positive lol.

  11. Seeker542 says:

Bippy is another toilet paper subscription service. I haven’t seen what their prices are like but they are an option, and I believe the company is sustainable.

I thought i had it bad trying to buy toilet paper two weeks ago on Amazon and having to deal with them shipping it on a delay, lol. I’m lucky, I’m living on my own, and the one 12-pack I got last semester held over until early March this semester. So I should be ok for some time going forward.

But people, I know it’s icky and no one likes to consider it, but you can use water. And you don’t have to jump in a shower right after or install a bidet or anything. You do have to take extra care to wash your hands afterwards when you’re done, but, it is an option, if it comes to that. Maybe it’s the third-worlder in me that’s talking, but watching people lose their minds and stocking up on toilet paper like they’re 8th graders trying to TP someone’s house when we all have options is just something else. Literally.

ETA: CB, I went to go turn off my adblocker and realized I’ve had it off the whole time! That’s a pleasant surprise. I accidentally turned it off for a moment w/o realizing, but it’s off again now. Hope you’re all doing ok during this time!

I stocked up on Ibuprofen because they were initially including it in the lists of things to get, and then that article came out. I give up, I’ll just die. p.s. I braved it into the office today because luxury shoes I ordered pre-apocalypse had arrived. And now, here we are looking into luxury toilet paper…
