Kanye West’s campaign memo: he’s hardline anti-abortion & pro-school prayer

30th.Annual GLAAD Media awards NYC

Kanye West is still on vacation with his family. They’re staying in a “fortress” in the Dominican Republic. He posted a video of himself (filmed by Kim) dancing with North West at the fortress/compound. Just visually, he looks like he’s in a better place at the moment. Kim Kardashian clearly sees this trip as a make-or-break moment for their marriage, but we’re getting mixed signals from her about Kanye’s fake-ass presidential run. As we’ve heard, Kim is loosely supporting him because she basically doesn’t want to fight about politics, but she really wants him to stop running and stop doing all of this stupid sh-t. Kim is reportedly “exhausted” and “it’s been hard for her to think clearly.” Which I believe.

But I do wonder if people are taking advantage of the fact that Kim is drained and exhausted and refusing to engage Kanye on a political level. Because while Kim thinks Kanye’s mind is on the state of their marriage, all of Kanye’s little MAGA elves are working on “his behalf” to get him on various state ballots. And someone – not Kanye – wrote up a campaign issue-memo and apparently sent it out to various media outlets. TMZ posted the PDF of the memo (you can see it here). Here’s a summary:

Kanye West wants you to donate to his campaign so he can become the 46th POTUS, and he’s making the pitch by laying out his positions on various issues, and one thing’s clear … he’s playing to both Democrats and Republicans. Ye, who calls his platform, “Creating a Culture of Life,” is seeking contributions ranging from $20 to a grand. As for his positions, the first is revealing … “Restore faith and revive our Constitutional commitment to freedom of religion and the free exercise of one’s faith, demonstrated by restoring prayer in the classroom including spiritual foundations.”

That seems to be a cornerstone of his campaign … freedom of religion, which for him includes a hard-line, antiabortion stance. This position clearly targets Republican voters.

But, then he pivots to the Dems, promising to reduce household debt and student loan debt. He also wants to restructure the educational system, by opening it up to “at-risk and vulnerable populations.” He takes a stand on policing, promoting policies that “treat all Americans the same, regardless of race, color, or ethnicity.” And, he promises to protect the environment by promoting clean air and water as well as renewables.

And, then he pivots back to Republican voters, promising to “place Americans’ best interest first and foremost.” He also vows to “Maintain a strong national defense.”

[From TMZ]

Hard pass. I don’t doubt that Kanye feels strongly about being anti-choice and pro-religion, especially considering those are consistent facets of his belief system whether or not he’s in a manic state. He loves controlling women and controlling women’s bodies. He loves to view himself as some kind of man of god or a prophet or something. This is all so offensive. Which MAGAt wrote this? Stephen Miller?

I hope he gets on all the ballots in November and all those dummies who were going to vote for Trump split the Rep ticket. Dems for the win! I’m really scared for November. If Biden doesn’t win, America is toast. I really feel that we will see some sort of civil dissolution. I’d flee to another country if anyone would have us.

    • Noodle says:

Wisconsin and New Jersey found all kinds of issues with the signatures on his candidacy petitions, so I don’t think he will appear on those states’ tickets. Apparently his ultra-Christian campaign doesn’t have problems with forging signatures. I imagine many states where he files will have to carefully inspect those signatures to ensure his petitions are valid.

      • Ennie says:

I am a teacher, and I can spot a bit of writing cheating and I took a look at the signatures. Fake, fake, fake, all fake (and made in a hurry). Total Foolery.

    • Scal says:

My husband and I were talking about this the other day. Biden needs to win, and win by a huge margin so there’s no drama about the mail in votes and trumpers getting to cry that it was ‘stolen’ from him.

But we were worried that there’s no scenario where there aren’t riots. He wins? Riots. He loses? Riots. It’s up in the air for whatever reason? Riots. I’m both ready for November and also terrified.

    • molee says:

Usually I am 100% against exploiting people living with mental illness (of which I am one), but I see 4 more years of Trump as the greater evil, and I am totally fine for Kanye to be the conservative Ralph Nader and pull votes away from Trump. I’m not proud but I see it as a case of “Needs must when the devil drives.”

      • Still_Sarah says:

@ moiee : I’m not sure what to think about this. To me, Kanye is clearly having a bipolar “high” with grandiose thinking and god-like projections on what he can do. It is very sad to watch – the man needs to be in a hospital, not on vacation.

The irony of the fundagelicals demanding to restore school prayer in the name of religious freedom isn’t only that it’s a direct violation of the 1st amendments prohibition of the government advancing religion, it’s also that the Protestants helped removed mandatory/led school prayer from public schools because there were so many Catholics in the public school system that they were offended at the notion their nice, Protestant, child would be exposed to papist prayers. Trump’s favorite a-hole pastor, Robert Jeffress may now lie to strongly declare he has no bias against Catholics but the fundamentalist/evangelical protestant denominations that make up the religious right are anti-Catholic (the KKK is anti-Catholic) so the natural end result once they’ve gotten the control they want and have dealt with subjugating of all of us Jews, Muslims. LGTBQ, POC would be to try to dominate the country as their kind of puritanical Protestant one. The problem with that is that Catholics are the largest single Christian denomination in the US and in their plan to control SCOTUS by installing RW judges, they’ve installed a lot of Catholics (5 are Catholic, 3 are Jewish & Gorsuch is Episcopalian)

    • Aang says:

There is a big group of Trad Catholics in the US who are just as fundamental as the worst Protestants. They love trump and want to back to when Catholics were segregated into insulated parishes with the women and children having little contact with non Catholics. Plus look at Barr he claims to be catholic but is as far from living the gospel as anyone I’ve ever seen. I don’t know why but the US is a breeding ground for fundamentalism.

      • Tig says:

This is a small subgroup, though, which is really funny because The Pope hates DT and subtweets him left and right. and the majority of Catholics know this.

      • pottymouth pup says:

“Plus look at Barr he claims to be catholic but is as far from living the gospel as anyone I’ve ever seen”

the more vociferous the politician/person is about “good Family values” the less likely they are to actually live in accordance with any of the things they’re trying to impose on others. It was like that in puritan times, it was like that when “the Church” controlled countries/monarchies and, based on the book of Matthew, it’s been like that ever since organized religion started mandating morality (at least within the Abrahamic faiths)

      • aang says:

Tig the Latin mass crowd may be small. But I’m Catholic and live in a rust belt city where most christians are Catholics. The area is very culturally catholic, for example Friday fish fries are a staple and statues of Mary are as common as gnomes in front gardens. I can drive to 4 different Catholic Churches in under 5 minutes. A very large number of the catholics around me vote on one issue and one issue only. Abortion. That means they voted for trump. And will do so again. There is also a very progressive population of Catholics in the city and inner ring burbs but we are outnumbered.

      • Still_Sarah says:

@ Aang : I have to ask – do you actually know any practicing Catholics? I ask because I am a Catholic who now attends a Baptist church in my neighbourhood and I have never heard of the “trad catholics” you speak of except maybe a few people’s grandmothers from the “old country”. I’m serious.

    • Lightpurple says:

Vandalism at Catholic Churches is on the rise

    • jenellesTiktok says:

Kanye probably believes that the school prayer should be directed at himself. Delusions of grandeur.

  4. amanda says:

Kanye and his cohorts should be charged with election fraud

  5. Atti says:

If you told me the news today 4 years ago I would have legit cried and jumped off a cliff.

    • Esmom says:

No kidding. Just when you think it can’t get any worse, it gets worse.

And I was thinking about how utterly amazing it would be if Trump lost, for those who vote blue. Because the Trumpers will be the same whether Trump wins or loses, living their lives fueled by grievance after grievance. Now they blame the media for everything, if Biden wins they’ll blame him. It’s what they do.

  6. FancyCatsup says:

Yup, paperwork is being filed in some states, including Wisconsin, to get him on the ballot. I honestly wonder in Russia is involved.

  7. ce says:

Ok so he want religious freedom but the subtext is *christian* religious freedom… however, if he does win, I assume he will have no problem with the Lord’s Prayer being followed with a reading from the Torah, then one from the Q’ran, and lastly one honoring Baphomet for the Church of Satan??
Like, come on man. Anyway, can we go back to ignoring him again? Awesome.

    • Girl with the Soup Tattoo says:

Came to say the same thing!! Also… Scientology, and any other bizarre congregations that are granted “church” status.

What ever happened to freedom FROM religion?? I may have to join the church of the flying spaghetti monster …

  8. HEMP says:

Seriously, f*ck all of this and especially f*ck the racist assumption that Black people can’t see through Kanye’s bullsh*t and would vote for him just because he’s Black. The GOP is complete trash.

    • ChillyWilly says:

Yes, HEMP! It’s so racist. I do not believe black voters will fall for these shenanigans.

  9. TheOriginalMia says:

Kanye & his GOP cohorts are gonna go to jail for the multiple cases of election fraud they have committed. Even if he manages to get on some ballots, he isn’t going to pull voters from Biden to Trump. The Dem voting block of black voters know he’s a fool and a MAGAt. We also know this election is too important to waste our votes on him.

  10. fluffy_bunny says:

How is he going to reduce household and student debt? That debt is owned by private banks in most cases. You can’t force a private company to forgive debt.

  11. FHMom says:

Dealing with mental illness on a regular basis is exhausting. I feel for Kim. I do not know how she puts up with his b.s. At this point, Kanye is a MAGA puppet. I’m sure she wishes he would just stop this nonsense. I mean, she is married to a joke and probably trying to figure out how to escape without damaging her brand.

    • Jules says:

Save your tears for Kim. She’s milking this for all it’s worth.

    • Ainsley7 says:

She’ll always be tied to him because of the kids. So, there isn’t much of an escape for her in divorce. She’d only get less control over the situation and that’s not something she will ever want while the kids are little. It’s for the best that she’s good at manipulating situations to her advantage. I don’t think she was actually considering divorce. I think it was a tool to get him talking to her. He thinks he’s running for president. We’ve only had 2 divorced presidents and only 1 unmarried president. I can see her using that to get him talking to her.

  12. Leah says:

He’s a joke with trying to play both sides of the fence. He needs to stay in his fortress and never come out forever. These elites who have so much power/money and don’t know how to shut their yaps are grinding my gears.

Also there is this thing called a separation between church and state. Not that he or Trump know that it exists but whatevers.

    • Mabs A'Mabbin says:

Exactly. And grinding my gears is such a nicer way of putting it lol. I should’ve read your post first.

  13. Mabs A'Mabbin says:

Ugh. Politics and religion piss me the f@ck off. Prayer in school? If you’re that concerned about Jesus in your lunch box, send your angelic spawn to private school. How long does it take human evolution to move past ancient parables? And if moving past the Holy Father is a blasphemous evil thought satan planted, when can the pious move past shoving it down everyone’s throat? It’s infuriating. STFU. And STFD. Enough already.

    • Esmom says:

      Well said. It is infuriating.

    • ce says:

I don’t know if this is a common experience, but the three years I managed to endure at a Catholic school taught me more about religion (as in, world religion – excluding Christianity) than any time at public school – which I appreciated! The irony isn’t lost on me that the years I took ‘religion’ classes encouraged me to be agnostic 😉

      • Mabs A'Mabbin says:

Exactly ce. My parents had me going to church three times a week. I studied at a university religious camp for several summers, and then I had to go to Baylor which required extensive old and new testament courses. When I look back, I see all that religion as a way to cure me of my questions and doubt lol. It only solidified my personal truth.

  14. It's All Over But the Prosecuting says:

Ain’t nobody voting for Kanye. Another brilliant idea from Jared. What is Kanye’s stance on homeless people OUT IIN FRONT OF THE GUCCi STORE? Is he for it or against it?

  15. Amy Too says:

I’m starting to get Kate Middleton vibes from Kim Kardashian. I think it’s all the “I’m so exhausted!” leaks when she was literally just on a family vacation in Cuba, then went home to beautiful LA to live in her mansion, and is now on ANOTHER international vacation in a “fortress” in the Dominican Republic. She’s super quick to go on the offensive when Kanye or anyone else starts messing with her image and talking shit about her or her mom and sisters, but otherwise, she’s super myopically focused on her family/marriage/home life, and doesn’t want to “talk politics” with her husband or challenger him on his presidential run when he is literally trying to spoil the most important election ever and advance an anti-woman, pro-conservative Christian religious based government that then gets forced onto our children in public schools.

    • Lavande says:

Kate’s not married to someone who is trying (despite thinking his intentions are good) to ruin a country though. Kim’s always been way worse than Kate, think about how she got famous(nasty), and how she stays famous (Dumb controversy) and the junk she sells which is made in China plastic Based stuff If I’m not wrong .

    • yinyang says:

I dont know I think it’s a toss up. Royal family bad deeds go back hundreds of years. Also, I think Kim is just as much a victim of Kanyes bullying, I think she is protecting herself. Also Kim might have a nasty way of making a living, but she is making her own money, she isn’t taking billlions from tax payer funds that should go to the poor, and sick, and children, all while expecting accolades. Remember Kim doesn’t have a top of the line business team crafting her image either. Anyways they all suck, Vote for Biden!

  16. Lindy says:

Trad Catholics like Barr are more dangerous than you might think. I used to be a professor at the most well-known Catholic university in the US, where I came to know some truly, truly disturbing people, with deep pockets, and very secretive ways of exercising influence. I know it sounds like a Dan Brown novel, but there are people who genuinely want to return to their romanticized version of a medieval culture of Christendom, where everyone knows their place in the order of being (women and non whites at the bottom naturally), science never advanced beyond Aristotle… The toxicity is beyond anything I ever encountered anywhere. They just know how to keep it on the down-low, and they view the noisy showy evangelical Protestant leaders as necessary foot soldiers in helping with the anti-abortion, anti-gay agenda.

I left academia in large part because of the truly terrible stuff that happened to me at that university. Stuff that resulted in another (male trad Catholic) professor being forced to leave the university, but in exchange, he was granted a tenure-track position at another Catholic university. Where he went on to be arrested for assault (not sexual assault, anger-related). When was no surprise to me.

I have some stories. It’s Barr who legit scares me. These people are relentless and patient and deeply evil, but convinced they are the righteous ones. That’s hard to combat.

    • Juls says:

Lindy thank you for taking the time to post this reallly insightful comment. I feel your pain and anger. I gave up a career I loved to escape evil, toxic people. It was so bad that it was affecting my mental and physical health. Why do evil, corrupt people always manage to be entrenched in positions of power? P.S. I would love to hear your stories.

      • Lindy says:

Juls, my heart goes out to you–I hate knowing there are other women out there who also have left a career they love for those kinds of reasons. I’m still in therapy to this day because there’s a grief over it. I also still feel guilty that I didn’t share the info I had with others (I was pressured pretty hard by the university provost and other leaders). I often wonder if I could’ve prevented his later assault had I spoken up more.

Anyhow, I hope you’ve been able to find another career and other paths to fulfilment.💜

    • Elizabeth says:

I have a similar story. Derailed my career and I’m still recovering. The worst was realizing, no one cared about right or wrong. Best wishes and solidarity to you.

      • Lindy says:

Ugh, Elizabeth, I’m so sorry to hear that. And yeah, I can still hear the provost telling me “you have the opportunity to part of making your department a better place, we just need to know that you’re on the university’s side in our approach to managing the situation.” Ummmm no. I was young, 4 years out from tenure, with no protection.

That utter lack of concern for right and wrong is demoralizing. Hugs and solidarity right back to you. It sucks.

Kanye is absolutely useful for Barr and his agenda. Y’all should Google the Federalist society and go down the rabbit hole. There’s a lot of bad stuff, and a lot of money and power there. (That’s how we got Kavanaugh as well).

  17. smee says:

All things Kardashian/West need to be cancelled. Whether she/they understand it, if even one person wastes a vote on him, they’re hurting Democracy at a crucial moment.

  18. melrose says:

Please highlight all the shenanigans Kanye and the GOP are doing. Like getting booted off the Illinois ballot for thousands of invalid signatures, some of which look like they were signed by the same person. In Wisconsin, several people who signed the petition for him to get on the ballot complained that they were duped to sign – they were told it was for something else otherwise they wouldn’t have signed. Plus, the ones working on him to get on the ballot are GOP operatives, like a lawyer also representing the Trump campaign who is also working to get Kanye on the ballot.

PLUS the PPP loans that Kanye and Khloe Kardashian got. Disgusting greedy family, wanting to be recognized as billionaires and yet taking money meant for small and struggling businesses.

  19. Jayna says:

Loosely supports him. Hell, no. I would come out strong in my support for the Biden ticket. No pass from me as far as Kim. Kanye is a narcissistic Trump supporter and now trying to fvck with this election himself. These are perilous times and Trump can win re-election. I don’t care about Kim not her leaks.

  20. melrose says:

Donald Trump’s administration handed out up to $5million to support West’s company Yeezy the Treasury revealed on Monday. Khloe got $2 million.

How anyone can support Kanye or any of the Kardashians I’ll never ever understand in a gazillion years!

  21. ME says:

He was in the Dominican Republic less than two weeks ago with Kim and now they’re back already? So much for the pandemic ! Seems like celebs have no rules and don’t need to isolate or quarantine or anything.

  22. adastraperaspera says:

Kanye and Kim are in the same boat. I’m sure she knows everything about this scam, and the work she did with Trump to free inmates was part of it. The Kardashians didn’t just become billionaires through hard work, and neither did West. I would not be surprised if they’re on “vacation” to game out the best country that doesn’t extradite to the U.S.

  23. Well-Wisher says:

There is one salient point – Billionaires need ordinary people, not the other way around. He will be challenged to ensure that every thing is above scrutiny.

  24. Alex says:

Men, in every country, love to take control and set conservative, hard-line, morality-based mandates for the country. Then these fools have the nerve to turn around and call liberals “fascists.”

  25. shanaynay says:

I hope Kanye and DT share the same jail cell when this is all over. They are both criminals. I have no doubt KK is in on all of it as well. It’s not like her to keep quiet. I hope when this whole fiasco hits the fan the whole KK’S brand is ruined. That is once people figure out KK is just as unscrupulous as the rest of them. Don’t let her fool ya!

  26. JustMe2 says:

Khloe has not been posting much on Instagram….pregnant or another new face

  27. Marley says:

aang I was horrified when I made an offhand comment along the lines of “Don’t even get me started on Trump,” and the friend I was talking to proceeded to defend him. I was flabbergasted that an otherwise intelligent and thoughtful human being could possibly justify voting for him, especially now. But she had recently re-embraced her Catholic roots, and it was just as you say, the issue of abortion was all she could see. She contorted herself into to all kinds of knots to go from there to defending his other actions. She couldn’t allow herself to acknowledge how horrendously un-Christian his behavior is, how little he actually respects life, what a hypocrite he is to use and manipulate people like her. It made me understand that there is a whole group of people beyond the MAGA crazies voting for him, and it scared me.

    • SomeChick says:

As a “pro-life” voter, I hope she also supports benefits for children, extended parental leave, and school funding!

    • shanaynay says:

I’m sorry, but I think your friend is another brainwashed fool. DT doesn’t give a crap about her, or anybody else. Nobody should get it twisted.

Just remember if DT defunds Social Security it’s going to affect everyone INCLUDING all of ya’ll that supported/voted for him!!!! Ya’ll aren’t going to be excluded from this!!!!

    • jwoolman says:

Trying to make abortion illegal isn’t even good Catholic thinking.

Heretic though I am, I had 16 years of Catholic education. It was very clear that Catholic thinking is that everything immoral does not have to be illegal, and everything illegal does not have to be immoral.

Catholic Democrats know this. You can be against abortion yourself without insisting that every other person believe the same way. I have heard many religious people say they support the current law because the government has neither the wisdom nor the right to interfere with the decision. If God wanted it otherwise, it would be easy to have the zygote/embryo/fetus develop outside the woman’s body. Instead, you cannot separate the two and the woman has to make the decision according to her own conscience.

Beliefs about the status of the unborn and the responsibility of the parents to abort or not vary tremendously from religion to religion and from time to time. And that includes Catholic thinking about it also, which has also varied tremendously from century to century. The idea of right to independent life from conception is very new. Old medical manuals had lists of abortifacient herbs. It was not something on the Catholic Church’s radar for a long time, common though attempts to force miscarriage were throughout the ages (along with killing babies after birth, “accidental” suffocation was one way).

And then there is the problem that God is the Great Abortionist. Clearly most conceptions do not result in a live baby. It is actually a very rocky road from conception to birth. It is as though God or Mother Nature is just testing things out to see what works and what doesn’t. And most attempts don’t work out for various reasons, without any human intervention at all. This is emotionally very hard on the mother who wants a child, but it’s the harsh reality. Many are lost before a woman even knows she is pregnant.

Legal abortion actually makes it easier to deal with it as a moral and social support issue, because people are able to talk openly about it. Making it illegal will not stop it and never has. Back in days when it was illegal, Catholics in the US were more likely than Protestants to have abortions. Catholic countries with absolute laws against abortion for any reason often had higher abortion rates per capita than we did.

Many married women had abortions in the old illegal days because they already had too many children to properly support. Control over reproduction is a crucial issue for women.

The current law just does not penalize abortion but leaves it as an individual decision. It does not force abortion on anyone. The situation of a woman deciding what to do with her own body (and the product of conception is indeed part of her body) is fundamentally different from the decision to drop bombs on people, their homes, their schools, their workplaces, all the animals, and at the same time inducing unwanted miscarriages. The same men who cheerfully want to restrict women’s access to abortion and contraception usually have no trouble dropping bombs on pregnant women elsewhere. And if you care about the unborn, you had better care about the already born and help mothers with difficult pregnancies and not enough financial or emotional resources to raise a child with or without special needs.

Any Catholic who votes for Trump because they think he will stop abortions is incredibly naive, unaware of their own religious history, and also will have to answer to their God for all the damage Trump has done and will continue to do. They are cooperating with evil.

  28. CherryL says:

I guess he has never heard of freedem of religion which is a cornerstone for modern democracies. So is the division of powers and the freedom of choice over someone’s own body. In short: he wants to become a despot.

  29. Heather says:

Reason #4,394.5 of why the US is the laughing stock of the planet.
