Duchess Kate & William visited a farm, played on a tractor & met some sheep

Royal visit to Durham

It’s Keen Anniversary Week, and the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge decided to gift us with new farm photos. It’s not their farm, mind you, because that would be terribly gauche. No, William and Kate visited Manor Farm in Darlington. They posed in various pastures and Lynchpin Guevara petted a lamb. This would have been a cozy little farm trip for George and Charlotte, but I guess the kids are in school.

Kate wore some repeats for today’s outing – the jacket is from Seeland and she’s had it for years, and it’s one of her favorites for casual outings. She wore skinny jeans or jeggings, who can tell. And she’s had those boots since college, but the sweater seems new? Or new to us? It’s from Troy London. Don’t you get it? She was visiting sheep, so she had to theme-dress and wear wool. (Don’t hate me but I actually love that sweater.) There’s something frilly underneath the sweater too – she’s got some kind of twee, ruffled-collar blouse on underneath the wool.

Anyway, I enjoy the fact that Will and Kate have given us some new photos and they’re ever-so keen and normal and middle-class, just like us! Kate even posed – wearing a mask!! – on a tractor.

Why is she wearing the mask on a tractor when no one is near her but not when she is close to the little girl?

This is Kate’s “farm tour” uniform – those boots, some type of field jacket, and a sweater with a frilly blouse underneath.

i do like the sweater though, in geneal Kate’s casual looks are pretty good IMO, fewer buttons haha, but I don’t like the blouse underneath.

    • Becks1 says:

Also speaking of uniforms, good lord William is the most boring dresser. If he’s not in a suit, he’s in those blue pants (he must have 50 pairs of them) and some sort of collared shirt with a sweater over it, usually blue or brown. If it’s a more casual event he wears a puffy coat like here, if it’s less casual he wears a blazer. And then always brown shoes.

I’m not saying I expect him to come out in a super snazzy suit or something, but maybe different pants?

      • Lemons says:

omg, you’re right! I thought he was wearing jeans but he’s in his same blue sweater, blue collared shirt outfit with brown booties. Is his green polo jacket new?

      • BothSidesNow says:

I hadn’t noticed that but that is exactly what he wears!! Though I do like the sweater that Keen Doucheness is wearing. But GD, when she is going to get rid of those awful boots?? They are awful and have certainly worn out their welcome.

    • (The OG) Jan90067 says:

Thank you! That’s the first thing I noticed as well!

Hmmm…. H&M are campaigning for vaccine equity world-wide and to promote people to *take* the vaccine.

W&K are petting sheep and riding a tractor. And THEY want to be the “power couple”??? And are incandescent when no one sees them that way?

      Oooookay.

      • equality says:

That’s funny. That’s what I thought when I saw the headlines.

      • Liz version 700 says:

Spot on. I was thinking the same thing… so they are just randomly petting sheep while the exiles are trying to get the world vaccinated?!?

      • ShazBot says:

Omid said in his post that this farm was one of the charities that they supported through their wedding campaign 10 years ago – something like that. So it makes a bit more sense than just a random visit.

      • Eurydice says:

Asking out of ignorance – are the RF allowed to take on causes that are topical and world-wide? It seems to me that vaccine equity and hesitancy might be considered political. I think what H&M are doing is completely worthy, but I wonder if that wasn’t another constraint they were happy to lose.

      • ABritGuest says:

Eurydyce the queen, Charles & William have all done zooms encouraging Brits to get vaccinated. The queen even got a bit of grief as she seemed to suggest it was selfish not too. So the royals have talked about this topic

    • Jennifer says:

In another clip it looked like there may have been someone in the tractor with her.

    • Cessily says:

It’s a farm the mask was probably for the smell (don’t they fertilizer in the spring) lol.. I see others noticed her hands leaving the tractor also, She was not going to risk touching anything.. made me laugh.

    • HannahB says:

Let’s talk about those jeggings. They don’t fit. And I don’t mean that in a good way. They’re scrunched and slipping down at the top, tight-tight at the thigh, then bunched at the knee. There are so many many over-priced designer jeans that the Great White Hope could indulge in….and she does this.

  2. Nev says:

The way she’s coming off the tractor hahahah don’t touch it don’t touch it. Wild.

    • Elizabeth Regina says:

So she can wear a mask outside, with no other person around except a tractor but not at a crowded vigil? Whilst the Sussexes across the pond are campaigning for vaccine equity, the keen ones are playing with tractors and sheep? Such impact.

  3. Lauren says:

Baby mask on a tractor, but not near the children. I thought that they learned at the funeral that adult masks exist and they should be worn always, but oh well.

  4. Aurora says:

Which of their patronages are being helped by this photo op?

Are they going to keep doing appearances together from now on?

  5. Osty says:

They are always “learning” or keen . When will they do . So much wasted opportunities

  6. Maria says:

Ah the hyena grin is back.
As an aside, it kind of creeps me out that the Westminster Abbey Instagram has dedicated an entire week to their anniversary.
I get it’s probably the highest profile event in the cathedral for years but it’s not like they are the only royal couple to get married there 😂

  7. Em says:

Kate is loving all these joint appearances, it’s literally the only time she gets to spend time with baldy.

    • BothSidesNow says:

Yes, and he has been forced to actually look interested as well. Oh how he longs for the days that he was able to publicly ignore her and escape from being by her side. My how the mighty have descended into the everlasting incandescent with rage for the last five solid years.

  8. Chaine says:

LOL that sheep trying to wrestle itself away from her is all of us.

  9. mariahlee says:

    comment deleted.

  10. Sue says:

So this is the burden that they are so aggrieved to have to take on because Harry lives in California.
I wish I could live in a palace and have an endless clothing budget in exchange for having my photo taken at a farm.

    • EliseM says:

LOL. I was thinking the same thing. What a tough grind to have to bear. A bead of sweat has appeared upon thou brow! I wonder how many days off will be needed after that outing.

  11. L84Tea says:

I see the jeggings are back.

  12. Sofia says:

I like the outfit except for the collar. Nothing much to say about the event itself from myself.

  13. Emm says:

It looks like the sun was out and her hair looks a lot darker then those pics from the other day in which her hair looked almost red. The un-edited ones.

  14. Midge says:

That sheep is like “get me outta here!”

  15. Blanca says:

    The botox is comeback LOL

  16. Aurora says:

Kate is so off-trend. The skinny jeans with riding boots has fallen out of favor and looks dated ( unless you’re actually riding a horse). Relaxed fit and flared jeans have been the look for a couple of years now. Meghan recent paparazzi pics with Archie were a perfect example of the relaxed jeans that are all the rage right now. Even a pregnant Meghan manages to be more on trend than Kate.

    • Becks1 says:

I know you’re right but I love my skinny jeans and am sad to see them go lol.

    • Andrew’s Nemesis says:

Bugger trends. I love my skinny jeans and long boots. Shame that I share that love with Wiglets, but still.

      • Agreatreckoning says:

I’m jumping on the skinny jeans & leggings train too. Don’t care if it’s no longer trendy. Yep, to the skinny jeans & long boots. I can’t even rip on Will for wearing the same pants most of the time. My husband does the same thing unless it’s a dress up occasion. A little funny though. I’ve made jokes about Jim Harbaugh and his khakis (google the stories) and DH just understands the wearing of the same pants.

@CC2-I’m 5’4″ and feel like a little kid wearing a grown up’s pants with the wider at the bottom pants/jeans. And, unless you have a cold, racist heart, please don’t refer to yourself as ugly.

@Jais-lol-I would love to debate the center v side part. Except I have no choice in the matter. Have to accept both because my hair decides what it wants to do on any given day. No matter how hard I try. Not even Aqua Net would have power over my hair.

On topic now-this event is at least better than the Anzac video.

    • Nyro says:

Off topic but I’m soooo glad skinny jeans and leggings are over. Some people are trying to say skinnies are “classic” denim now but I’m not buying it. Kate looks straight out of 2011 in those jeans.

      • Sue says:

I am pregnant and have just discovered the gift that are leggings lol. I don’t ever want to go back. I’m so comfortable in them.

      • Maria says:

Yes Sue, I’ve circumvented the skinny vs relaxed fit jeans issue by living in leggings. Aside from professional events I don’t think I’ve worn real pants for years 😂
I’m definitely not the cool one in my age group. But I wasn’t cool as a teenager either, so it’s fine.😁

      • Becks1 says:

I think after this pandemic leggings and joggers and other comfy pants are here to stay lol. No hard pants here!

      • CC2 says:

They’re over? Hell no I’m wearing skinny jeans until I die I’m too short and ugly for looser jeans

      • Maria says:

Let’s hope, Becks 😁😂 the relaxed fit is not flattering on me to say the least, lol.

      • (The OG) Jan90067 says:

I’ve been living in my yoga pants for the last 15-16 months lol. I think I’ve worn zippered jeans *three times* in the last year, and I’m happy! lol

I guess “getting back into the world” as it opens (going to concerts, plays, “nice” indoor dinners) would get me back into the “dress” clothes (which I *am* looking forward to!!), but for day to day, yoga pants and big sweaters/T-shirts are here to stay! 😄

      • Watson says:

@sue: maternity leggings and pants are amazing. You will never want to encounter another zipper again!!!

      • Nyro says:

Sorry guys, I meant jeggings, not leggings. I love leggings. Jeggings, however, will never not be tacky. It’s no wonder Kate lives them lol.

      • Chrissy says:

        @Nyro
Whenever I see Kate in jeggings, it makes me think it is her way of flashing us without showing any skin. Those are painted on and leave little to the imagination. Her Royal Exhibitionist strikes again. It sure seemed to have gotten her some attention.

    • ShazBot says:

Team skinny jeans over here too! I love them, and I’ll keep wearing them until they eventually circle back into popularity – and they will.

      • Jais says:

Also am a firm skinny jean supporter w flats w sneaker w boots w anything. But also biked to work for 6 years and any pant wide at the calves or ankle would inevitably get a hole in it from getting caught in the bike. So there is a function to it lol. Not biking to work anymore so am open to a more relaxed pant. Both are good.
Also love this digression…who’s up for center v side parts lol

    • Nic919 says:

Kate will wear skinny jeans for the rest of her life. She will be doing this in her 60s and the UK media will be celebrating her for still being so thin at her age. It’s all she’s got.

  17. Merricat says:

Was the photo op the only purpose of this outing?

    • booboocita says:

That’s what I was wondering. What was the point of the visit? They didn’t even take the kiddies so they could pet the sheep. What a pointless photo op, if that’s all it was. Who wakes up in the morning and says, “Hey, let’s go pet some barnyard animals! No reason — let’s just do it!”

  18. LittlePenguin says:

Once upon a time, the Keen King and Kween needed to go outside, so they went to a farm! They saw sheep, a tractor and farm things. It was lovely. They were so in love.

    The end.

Also, why can’t she just wear a normal t-shirt under her sweater like many of us do? Why does it have to be a high collar – lace thing?

I’m salty this morning. Apologies CBers.

  19. Sunshine says:

This would have been a good opportunity to bring out and teach them the family business while getting good photos.

  20. Over it says:

So she wears a mask on the tractor with no one but next to the little girl nothing? And last week with the cadets nothing? These two make me dizzy with their thought process

  21. Over it says:

Lol. Kaiser. She is visiting sheep so theme wool dressing.. lolol. You kill me.lololol

  22. candy says:

To be fair, the other people are dressed the exact same way lol.

  23. Emily_C says:

I know and care nothing about fashion, which is probably why I would actually wear Kate’s outfit. Well, not wool, because I’m allergic. But it looks comfortable. I like her jacket.

For once, they don’t look like they hate each other. Was this some “support your local farms” thing? And isn’t this the sort of thing it would be nice to take the kids to?

I thought it would be just some puff piece about them visiting the farm, and why they did so, but I stupidly clicked on the link not seeing that it was the Daily Heil. Nope, they brought Meghan into it to shit on her! They keep insisting she attacked Kate, when she did the complete opposite. And the nastiness in this article is not going to help Will and Kate long-term. People who already love them and hate Harry and Meghan don’t need a dose of Meghan-hate in every single article about Will and Kate. People who are more neutral will be turned off. People who support Meghan and Harry will be totally grossed out, at least speaking for myself. I was all ready to say “this is the kind of pr they should be doing,” but no, gotta get your hate in every time.

    • Greywacke says:

Agreed. They actually look happy. So rare.

    • Jais says:

So my mom loves All Creatures Great and Small, the old one and the new one. The new one is v cute and this gives me those vibes.
She watched the old one when I was pretty little and it was horrifying, animals dying left and right. Am seriously still traumatized. She started rewatching the old one to compare w the new and I think the new adaption has less animals dying. Just saying lol

    • swirlmamad says:

Eh, they’re both smiling, yes — but there’s no eye contact with and smiling at each other. And that’s always weirdly the case with these two. They are not a couple who is in sync. They were REALLY off the other day, but normally they can pull off looking somewhat engaged with the people they are conversing with, like they are here. Show me them actually interacting with each other and then maybe I’ll change my tune.

  24. equality says:

The point would also be no mask then social distancing or even with mask plus social distancing.
@Over it There was a farm worker with them in the tractor when she and Will were driving it.

  25. Amy Bee says:

I wonder if KP is pissed that Harry and Meghan’s new project was announced at the same time that Kate and William are doing on their 10th Wedding Anniversary tour. LOL

    • Randie says:

      What timing!!
It does look odd them petting sheep while Harry and Meghan on Archewell announces HUGE names for their Vax Concert.

  26. Maria says:

What’s up with this weird country/Sloaney/aristo thing of wearing sweaters and shooting jackets with ruffly collars anyway?

  27. Nic919 says:

The tractor has GPS and can drive on its own. It’s funny that they act like they have never seen that before when I know from my relatives who are farmers that GPS technology has been in place for many years, maybe even 10 years. Really confirms how little William actually goes to the Duchy farms.

    • Lady D says:

They use GPS systems to build those giant corn or wheat mazes that you can get lost in for hours.

    • Chrissy says:

Not only that but they live in the country. They must see tractors and other farm machinery everyday, probably just outside their windows.

  28. Julia K says:

I love the sweater. A blouse or shirt of some kind protects the skin against the itchies also the high collar at the neck prevents chafing or rashing that delicate skin area. Also wearing a garment under the sweater means a few wears before dry cleaning. My daughter’s do the same.

  29. swirlmamad says:

And in typical fashion, Keen is hyena grinning at Willie and the best he can muster is a bemused grimace. Yeesh.

  30. Ginger says:

From the pictures I have seen, Kate is manic grinning like crazy. She looks deranged because no one else in the photo is laughing or even smiling. She looks so fake. She really needs to stop.

    • schlussel says:

the photos of Kate on the DM at the visit after this one (to a school in Durham I think) were all noticeably awful shots that made her look wildly unhinged. I think the rota are trying to tell the Keens that they will not help with the Embiggening.

      • Nic919 says:

There is a photo of her golfing that I really hope Kaiser posts tomorrow because it is hilariously fake.

  31. Watson says:

I love it when Kate dresses like this as it’s the only time she looks like a normal person. Less weird Diana cosplay and more this!

  32. Hanna says:

Speaking of fatm .Were H&M have chicken farm?, copying not directly. but a few month later.

  33. Cessily says:

I need to get sheep and biscuits out of my head.. it’s been a PR “NO!” This week and it’s only Tuesday…🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️

  34. Nivz says:

Are these pictures touched up? She looks super different from the RAF event. Hair is glossy again and her face isn’t bloated.

I like her outfit, but I’m admittedly a basic bitch. I used to be a big fan of her sheath dresses back in 2011. I lived in London at the time, and you couldn’t escape the wedding press buzz. Also, she was the new(ish) pretty young thing on the scene. No competition at all.

Ten years on, I do find myself bored by her style- I think I realised this after Meghan appeared. I suppose K is like the Queen in that sense. Stylish-ish in her youth, but never evolved past that moment.
