SJP, Kristin Davis & Cynthia Nixon are filming ‘And Just Like That’ in NYC

118721PCN_Penthouse23

As we all know, the original Sex and the City is getting a terrible new “sequel” in the form of a ten-episode series called And Just Like That. Kim Cattrall is not part of this mess, much to the chagrin of Sarah Jessica Parker, who thought she could bully Cattrall into coming back. So Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis are back, plus the writers are apparently adding a few more new “friends” to this clique. Nicole Ari Parker has already been photographed on the New York set, as they seem to be filming a “lunch” scene among the friends.

HBO Max released “the first image” from the sequel series last week, and if you stare at it long enough, a Manolo Blahnik appears in the distance. I’m still trying to work out just what’s wrong with it – it definitely looks like Sarah Jessica Parker was there for the photoshoot, but then they replaced her original head with a different shot of her? Or maybe all three women were CGI’d into this mess.

In addition to that, filming began last week, and paparazzi are all over the real-New York locations. So we’re getting previews of some of the fashion in the series. It’s bad! Very bad. Granted, I don’t actually know how 50-something women in New York dress, but I strongly suspect that they do not dress like this! It feels so dated, so ‘90s. The only okay-ish thing about these photos is that Cynthia Nixon looks great and I love that blunt bob on her. That being said, I miss her red hair! SJP and Cynthia Nixon both look hella Botoxed.

And Just Like That… they’re back!

  1. Merricat says:

Ugh, costumes are not fashion, and looking like Maria in The Sound of Music is not cute at SJP’s age. Let it go, Sarah Jessica!
Yeah, Cynthia Nixon is the only one who looks good.

    • L84Tea says:

That’s what bothers me–the fashion turned into caricature costumes. It’s been like that with all of the movies and seems to get progressively worse with each one. On the show, sometimes some of the outfits (mainly Carrie’s) were a little out there, but they were mostly believable. They were more quirky than over the top. But Carrie also had moments where she wore sneakers and flip-flops. Charlotte walked around her apartment in blue velour sweats. Miranda sat around in pajamas and wore pretty sundresses. The movies have them dressing as if they walk out the door everyday to go to the Met Gala. Or a Norma Desmond audition. They look absolutely ridiculous.

      • Mac says:

Part of the fun of the early series was the fashion was great, but also accessible. There is nothing aspirational about these looks.

      • Merricat says:

They’re dressing Charlotte like a Hollywood idea of a voluptuous Italian woman from the 50s. Kristin Davis looks so uncomfortable. Yikes.

      • L84Tea says:

You’re right! It’s very Sophia Loren. And Mac, yes. The fashion was accessible. This is so not.

      • bananapanda says:

In one of the later seasons (with Adrian), Carrie’s old lady neighbor looks at her and says “well that’s a crazy outfit!” and you realize (she’s right) that Carrie is now mid-30s dressed in mismatching prints and weird layers and maybe a hair wrap? It’s way too much.

Cynthia Nixon looks good here. Age appropriate, polished, relaxed.
SJP looks bizarre and is not young enough to be quirky but not hip enough to be Iris Apfel.
Poor Kristin Davis is extremely pear shaped (watch SATC and you’ll realize they film her top up 90%) and they do not know what to do with her.

  2. Ann says:

They couldn’t have cropped out the trash can? Thats my issue with the picture. It’s like they intentionally left it off-center to include the trash can. Whoever is responsible for the picture must think the whole series is a garbage idea too. I won’t be watching.

*omg I looked over the pics again for the “fashion” and that gold look with the hat. I’m Burger right now “nice hat!”

    • North of Boston says:

I mean, they already were editing that photo, so why not?

And while they were at it they could have fixed the unbuckled straps on SJP’s shoes, which are fine in a different pic

  3. Lola says:

Why is SJP the only one wearing clothes that fit? (Hideous though they are.) I actually wonder if it’s like one of those situations where a bride makes bridesmaids wear cuts that look horrible on everyone deliberately. Like she’s insecure and wants people talking about how she looks the best? Cynthia Nixon is tall and willowy, it’s not easy to get her into pants that are too long, and not easy to make her look dumpy, it seems like it has to be on purpose.

    • Golly Gee says:

Maybe so. That was always her MO with Kim Cattrall. SJP didn’t want her getting more attention and had the Samantha character degraded as much as possible. IIRC, Samantha was the only one who had to do almost nude sex scenes.

  4. Driver8 says:

Why the hell is SJP carrying TWO purses in that second picture? Cynthia’s hair looks good. Lol at Andrew McCarthy. This show looks like a hot mess. I read Samantha Irby is one of the writers so I’ll check out the first few episodes.

    • Size Does Matter says:

      Robin Hood Princess of Purses.

Nobody in the whole world dresses like that.

    • Coco says:

After Samantha’s mysterious disappearance, Carrie made a sacred vow to always take one of Samantha’s purses wherever she goes. Now she roams the streets by day, fights C.H.U.D.s in the sewers by night, determined to find what remains of her lost friend.

  5. lucy2 says:

    I like Cynthia’s hair.
    That’s it.

  6. Klu says:

Is it just me or does SJP remind anyone of that super popular girl from high school who never emotionally leaves high school and always sees herself as the prom queen, despite being a washed up 55 year old actress (who only ever had one character that was good and the project this character was in wasn’t that great to begin with)?

I’ll just say I’m glad Kim Cattrall is living her best life away from this mess.

    • OnyxXV says:

No, it’s not just you! That’s totally the vibe she’s giving off. It’s beyond pathetic at this point how SJP is clinging desperately to her one successful project. But with each re-visit, it detracts from the worth of the original. And yes, good for Kim Cattrall!

  7. Rural Juror says:

I was prepared to hate everything about this, but then I saw that Samantha Irby was involved as a writer, so I will MAYBE check out an episode that she wrote. And if you’re not familiar with Samantha Irby, I highly recommend you check her out! She’s a hella awesome WOC who’s written 3 excellent books and has also written for Shrill and Tuca and Bertie

    • Chlo says:

LOVE SAMANTHA IRBY and really excited to see her contribution to this. I’ve read her blog for 10+ years and have loved seeing her go from hilarious local blog writer to well-regarded (and still hilarious) screen writer and author!! Her Instagram is just the best too.

  8. Darla says:

I don’t know how women of this “class” would dress. Charlotte had a 6 room apartment overlooking central park west, that’s wealthy. So that I don’t know. But I’m in my 50’s and am in the city often enough and I wouldn’t be caught dead in any of this. Distressed jeans, tank tops, simple skirts, and simple sundresses are what I wear and what I see my group in. Designer stuff, but like, rag and bone expensive, not prada. And these getups are hilarious, really.

And in NYC, as always, black rules. That’s never changed.

    • liz says:

I am in my mid 50s and own an apartment on CPW. That is not how I or any of my neighbors (even the most fashionable amongst us) dress.

No one is wearing stiletto heels or carrying expensive handbags anymore. 15 months at home with no where to go and no one to see meant comfortable shoes have become the norm. The most you will see are inch and a half or two inch block heels (Office of Angela Scott shoes).

Same with handbags. All you see in my neighborhood are basic cotton totes that can carry the world and be thrown in the washing machine. The two I use the most are from the Met Museum and Village Revival, a record store downtown.

  9. MrsBanjo says:

They all look like they’ve been playing a bit too much with botox and fillers. That picture of Kristin Davis in the blue skirt is particularly bad.

    • L84Tea says:

I am really saddened to see how far she went with the fillers because Kristen Davis is such a beautiful woman with those big doe eyes.

      • Barrett says:

So sad ab Kristen Davis – her lip filler/mouth. She is like courtney cox the lips make her not look like herself. She would age better naturally b/c she has such a pretty face and good bone structure.

It would be nice if the close evolved w some style. Many older woman w money learn to do less is more, more sophisticated w some unique detail of flair. I work in NY, most woman don’t have this odd style.

      • josephine says:

She looks the least natural and least good, I think. I was saddened by the pic as well. Cynthia Nixon looks good, what a woman in her 50’s with some money and time to take care of herself would look like.

      • Meg says:

Yes not sure why sjp and Cynthia Nixon were only mentioned in this post because kristen davis face looks, im positive, worse than it would if they hadn’t messed with it

    • tealily says:

      Fillered out of existence. 🙁

  10. Valentina says:

Charlotte rocking that ‘mistress at funeral’ vibe.

  11. Bettyrose says:

I guess it’s good that Cynthia Nixon isn’t busy being the governor of New York so this can happen.

  12. Cava24 says:

If you actually go anywhere in the Meatpacking District, say, where I guess analogous 50-something women actually are, they dress better than any of the outfits shown here. I don’t like a lot of their clothes, they seem influenced by the various Bravo shows, but they are cut better and suit them better and don’t make them look like clowns. Women in other trendy neighborhoods tend to be more low- key, if they are affluent, it shows in the fit and the fabric.

    • tealily says:

I get that they’re trying to do something “aspirational” instead of low-key, but this just comes off as kind of crazy.

  13. OriginalLala says:

I have no idea if wealthy 50+ ladies in NYC dress like this because I’m a middle-class 37yr old Canadian but, I doubt they do? This is bad…I actually laughed out loud at how bad these looks are.

    • Songs (Or it didnt happen) says:

Poor Cynthia Nixon is out there wearing “Nona’s special Thanksgiving outfit” chic 🙁

These are beautiful women and someone is doing them so dirty. Wardrobe department must be full of Samantha stans.

      • North of Boston says:

Plus her makeup artist seems to hate her. Actually all their make up artists seem to be not to be on point with these 3.

Unless “on point” is do SJP’s makeup how she demands (which going by some of her RC looks is overdone / harsh/ dated) and make the other two not look good.

CN and KD have good hair.

Aside from that … well nothing actually; that’s all I’ve got.

  14. Coco says:

How old are the characters kids in the show? Are they planning to do a crossover with the new “Gossip Girl?”

  15. Lala11_7 says:

I start watching the show again during the lockdown and appreciated the hell out of it still…and what they’re wearing tracks with the tone they set during the show…so I’m not tripping about it…looking forward to the new series

    • Lady Baden-Baden says:

I’m with you @LaLa. Looking forward to it.

    • Carty says:

I agree, this was my must watch show back in the day. The off the wall fashion was always a part of that. I also never cared for Samantha. As you age, you tend to drift away from your party friends, especially if they were ho’s like Samantha, so I’m good with her not being part of this.

      • Lady Baden-Baden says:

Yeah, no. Samantha was a great character and I wish she was back too. P.s. referring to a woman – fictional or not – as a “ho” just because she’s unashamed about loving sex is…. very depressing

      • Darla says:

Lady Baden, you’re 100% on point here.

      • Jaded says:

Samantha (aka Kim Cattrall) had little to no input on her character initially. SJP, especially when she took over directing, deliberately made Samantha into a buffoonish character with no sexual taboos whatsoever. However Kim pushed back and in the final season became a more realistic character dealing with breast cancer and falling in love. Kim really is a very good actor and I appreciate her candor in regards to the later disputes she had with SJP. In any event I’d never refer to her character as a “ho”, it wasn’t like she was being paid for having sex, and in this day and age the proper terminology is actually “sex worker”.

      • Sue Denim says:

v well put Darla, Jaded and Lady Baden, this comment above bothered me earlier too. Samantha was prob my fav character, by far the most generous of all of the women, so many examples of that. And the coolest. Maybe had some kind of a sex addiction, but her body, her choices, and she was always there for her friends, even when they weren’t.

      • Sigmund says:

Dude, the show was called SEX and the City. Samantha was having sex, yes, but so was everybody else. But thanks for trying to slut shame for no reason.

  16. faithmobile says:

The fashion is so off for this age group and environment, it’s jarring. It definitely has Bravo vibes.

  17. A says:

I would have loved for Carrie to finally be a grown up in this new series but she still just seems like a 4 year old playing dress up with her grandma’s clothes.

  18. Rose says:

This looks so bad I’m embarrassed for them.

  19. SarahCS says:

I think the photoshop feel or whatever it is that’s ‘off’ in the pic is partly because of how close SJP and Kristin are, like physically touching and yet Kristin has her foot slightly in front but then SJP has her arm up to block her (which figures). It doesn’t look natural given that there is no-one else around and Cynthia is back and to one side.

  20. Miss Margo says:

Sex and the city absolutely should not be getting remade. If anything, they should have the series redone with a new cast of millenials. And have the series star women of color. The movies were cringy… Is Michael Patrick king behind this mess? He is so completely out of touch. I can’t imagine this being very good. Hard pass for me.

  21. Gah says:

“And just like that” is my very least favorite phrase of magazine speak.

I cringe when people use it in social media posts

“And just like that I’m booked til next year” (wedding Photog or life coach friends)

“And just like that our baby is three.”

“And just like that we finished our dream house.”

I begrudge no one their joys and milestones but that phrase is the absolute worst.

So it’s fitting this aging cliche is the title of the SATC reboot.

Re the fashion I usually live in downtown NYC where most of these shots are and the women of a certain age who wander around (not tourists) are wearing gorgeous clothes- zero + Maria cornejo, jeans and very stylish sneakers, lots of linen and layers, rag and bone some Tory Burch even but the hipper less preppy stuff.

    • Darla says:

That’s how I dress. Well, and with a liberal dose of Free People thrown in because I do have a bohemian side.

  22. Mabs A'Mabbin says:

    🤣😭🤣😭🤣😭🤣😭

  23. SusanRagain says:

What is that awful mess with the feathers, 2 purses, an ugly hat, and drapery fabric for sleeves that reach the floor?
Somebody hates SJP! And I think it’s the wardrobe team. lol

KD has, sadly, duck lips. As far as I can tell.
    CN has a cute hairstyle.
SJP looks ridiculous in every way possible, the hair, the clothes, and OMG those horrible platform chunky shoes.
You’d have to pay me to waste my time and watch this slop.

    Now, Andrew McCarthy….nice!
Bought his new book, Brat an ’80’s story, it was pretty good. He is still cute!
Had to hop on Amazon and buy Weekend at Bernies. 😀

  24. AmyB says:

Why, why, why are they doing THIS??? (Yes, I know money…but still!!!) The series ended on such a good note! I loved the original series, even though looking back now, I now hate Carrie’s character LOL!! So whiney, narcissistic and never really evolved like the other three women. But I digress! The first movie was tolerable. The second was a F**KING train wreck – they made the women simply caricatures of themselves.

This will be a disaster, I know it!! I really hate how they are driving this series into the ground, and almost making us forget what we loved about the original series. I mean, what possible storylines could they be telling now???

    • Shanaynay says:

These ladies need to let it go and move on. I think it’s pathetic that they are still holding on to this so tightly. I have no doubt this will suck!!

  25. Lola says:

Honestly if I saw a person walking around NYC wearing either of those two SJP outfits here I honestly would instinctively group them in with those who are walking around the city in the grips of a mental health episode, and I’m not saying that to be snarky.

  26. Mina_Esq says:

I maintain that no one is asking for this.

  27. Carty says:

I haven’t cared for Kim since her sit down with Piers Morgan and called her co-stars “toxic”. It’s a 10 episodes. I’ll be watching.

  28. Bread and Circuses says:

Why is SJP the only one allowed to smile?

  29. Sunnyvale says:

Yikes🙈they’re beating a dead horse. The fashion looks horrendous and besides SJP, the other costars are clearly not happy! This will be a major flop. HBO should’ve just invested in funding new documentaries or new series headlined by POC

  30. Kristin says:

Seriously, is NOBODY going to comment on the fabulous snark by Andrew McCarthy?! I love the reference to Kim Catrall from “Mannequin”. That’s just too good, hahaha:)

  31. Samira says:

How do the RHONY dress? They’re like in the age range right…. so along those lines? Gonna say designer stuff all the way but probably sleeker and less quirky.
