Queen Elizabeth has zero public events on her schedule for the rest of the year

Queen Elizabeth II attends a Service of Thanksgiving

As we discussed, Queen Elizabeth suddenly pulled out of Remembrance Sunday’s trip to the Cenotaph. Her appearance was supposed to be a relatively simple balcony stop – she has not been “on the ground” for the wreath-laying at the Cenotaph in recent years, so it actually says a lot about the Queen’s poor health if the palace couldn’t even stage-manage the Queen’s appearance on a balcony, where she would have only been seen from the waist up for (at most) an hour or so. This Remembrance Sunday event had been hyped as the Queen’s big return to work, and it was said that the Queen herself felt like the event was “can’t miss.” It’s also concerning that she pulled out so last minute, although if she truly strained her back, it’s likely that she woke up Sunday morning and was surprised by how awful she felt.

I still haven’t made up my mind if the “strained back” story is the truth or if it’s just a cover story. Buckingham Palace only has itself to blame – just last month, they were caught lying and covering up QEII’s hospitalization, and everything the palace releases about the Queen’s health seems to be mired in shenanigans. Well, it now looks like the Queen no longer has any public events on her schedule for the rest of the year. Hm.

The Queen is resting at Windsor Castle where she is expected to carry out light duties this week after missing the Remembrance Sunday service at the Cenotaph. The 95-year-old monarch, who is said to have suffered a sprained back, has no official engagements on Monday, but is due to carry out virtual audiences in a few days’ time.

No major public engagements are planned for the head of state before the end of the year, but November and December are often quieter months for her royal calendar and her diary had already been set as such. She has cancelled an appearance at the General Synod on Tuesday – the first time the Queen, who is Supreme Governor of the Church of England, has missed her five-yearly visit to the Church’s national assembly in its 51-year history.

Royal commentators speculated that the monarch is unlikely to be out and about in the coming months and that the Remembrance Sunday setback marked a new phase in her reign, where she is seen more on video and less in the flesh.

Joe Little, managing editor of Majesty magazine, said: “In terms of official engagements before the end of the year, I don’t think we will see her out and about doing anything officially, even if she recovers from the sprained back.” He added that there had been a “collective sigh of relief” when she was due to be at the Cenotaph, but the situation had “regressed”.

Aides will be conscious of plans for the Platinum Jubilee next year, with the monarch due to reach the milestone in February, and participate in a busy four-day bank holiday weekend of festivities in June.

[From The Independent]

I get mad whenever I think about how the palace continues to plan for the Platinum Jubilee, but a thought keeps popping up in the back of my mind… what if the palace continues to plan for the Jubilee because they believe the plans will shift towards… Charles’ coronation? It’s just a thought. Anyway, I hope palace aides aren’t telling the Queen “you simply must make decisions on your Jubilee, ma’am!” Let the woman rest. Also: it will be very, very curious to see what happens around the typical royal Christmas plans. Even before the Queen would normally head to Sandringham, she traditionally hosts a pre-Christmas lunch at Buckingham Palace in mid-December for everyone in the family, not just the “main senior royals.” It will be very interesting to see what happens with that.

  1. Beach Dreams says:

I think they’re lying and covering for something else (as usual). I don’t think she was ever going to attend Remembrance Sunday just by the way the palace was talking and operating after she pulled out of COP26. This is starting to feel like late winter/early spring with Prince Philip’s decline.

    • ElleV says:

      agreed, strained back my foot

    • Becks1 says:

I agree. There is something else going on with her and the palace is desperately trying to cover it up.

      • GRUEY says:

It’s truly suspicious how *minor* her reported health issues are. The very old have LOTS of issues constantly—my grandparents did and my husband’s grandparents currently do. Heart issues, cancerous moles, vertigo, shingles, broken bones from falls. My grandparents all had excellent end-of-life care, and very healthful habits and they still had all this stuff. There’s probably been more going on with her for a long time.

    • Jan90067 says:

Exactly. There IS *something*, whether she took another fall and face-planted (visible bruising everywhere) or broke some bones in a fall (in a cast(s)), SOMETHING is afoot. If not, there’d be a video meeting/visit of sorts *sometime* for *something* between now and Christmas.

Wonder what they will do about her televised Christmas vid??? If she is truly hurt/waning, they can’t fake that by just propping her up (a la “Weekend at Bernie’s).

      • Polo says:

@jan They’ve probably already recorded the video.she did do a video like a week ago so wouldn’t be surprised if they are doing one now behind the scenes just in case something were to happen. This also means the Christmas walk thing maybe won’t happen? Maybe cancel all of Christmas plans like last year? I really hope so because I wasn’t looking forward to the why don’t they come for Christmas stories about the Sussexes.

      • Jan90067 says:

You could be right, Polo. They could’ve recorded something already “just in case”. I seem to remember they announced when it was taped in prior years though, and it was usually in early Dec. They *would* lie about this just as easily as they do about other things though.

I think you are spot on about the Christmas walk, although Brenda is always driven over in her Bentley or Rolls, tartan over her lap, with Anne, Sophiesta, or one of her LIW in the car with her. Guess we’ll see then if she’s “well enough” to go.

      • ElleV says:

@Polo cue the palace suddenly claiming to be super concerned about covid and giving that as the reason for cancelling xmas activities

      • Silent Star says:

I agree they are probably not been up front about her health issues, but on the other hand, having sudden “back issues” is not at all farfetched. I mean, I’m half her age and can throw my back out just by side-eyeing someone too dramatically, so…

    • NotSoSocialB says:

Cardiac issues, is my guess. CHF or even an MI. There will be no jubilee.

      • Dutch says:

I am wondering if it’s not something related to osteoporosis. It’s common in women of that advanced age. My mom cracked a couple of vertebrae in her back a couple of years ago and she was in a lot of pain, couldn’t stand for long periods of time, had trouble walking at times, etc. Docs gave her a brace and she has recovered to the point where it only bothers her once in a while.

      • Jan90067 says:

TQ has quite a curved upper back, so you could be right. Poor bone strength/density and one fall: BOOM! Fractures.

  2. blackfemmebot says:

*Puts on tinfoil tiara* I kind of believe that this whole appeal with the Mail and Jason breaking his NDA to smear Meghan might be (among other things) an attempt to distract from just how dire the Queen’s health is? Wouldn’t be the first time Meghan has been used to deflect unwanted press attention.

    *Takes tiara off*

For however much time this woman has left I really do hope it’s spent peacefully and not being bothered by something as frivolous as a jubilee. It’s time for everyone to step up so she can enjoy her last years/months/weeks surrounded by the corgis and drinking as many martinis as her old heart desires.

    • Andrew's Nemesis says:

I agree – no tinfoil here. We all predicted that Meghan would be in the firing line to cover up QEII’s demise/further PaedoAndy revelations.

    • STRIPE says:

I’m with you except for the part where she would be “bothered” by planning her jubilee. I think she lives for being Queen (or she would have stepped down years ago) and all the stuff that comes with it. There is no part of me that thinks she’s bothered by planning a celebration of her reign even for one second.

    • 123Qwerty says:

These Jubilees and public events in support of the monarchy are huge for British Tourism. It’s about that.

    • ElleV says:

i think smearing meghan is less of an attempt to distract and more that everyone important is busy af prepping for transition of power and lil willy is taking advantage to flex his petty

  3. Merricat says:

I do think that her health is failing. Putting a 95 year old on bed rest is like a shrug; it won’t help as much as it hurts.
And when she goes, let the chips fall.

  4. Athena says:

I think BP is lying about the strained back and those pictures of her driving around Windsor recently were staged.
Also at COP26 when President Biden asked Charles after the Queen, Charles looked visibly sad and almost teary eyed. So no, she’s not doing well.

    • Rapunzel says:

Staged is possible but why? It makes these cancellations look ridiculous. Which I guess is on brand for Windsor PR, so you’re definitely right.

      • Snuffles says:

They aren’t ready to admit she’s in decline.

      • ElleV says:

they don’t want even the briefest interruption in the appearance of a strong and stable monarchy/monarch. so she’ll be “in good spirits” for as long as they can stage-manage the lie

this is an institution that timed her grandfather’s mercy killing to ensure it made the morning papers

      • Jan90067 says:

Those pics could also be older pics, taken at an earlier time this year, or even last year. This is a woman who hasn’t changed her hairstyle since her 20s, and wears the same Hermés scarves for decades. I wouldn’t put it past the Grey Men.

      • equality says:

@Jan Somebody on Twitter had linked that photo to an old one released before.

    • Miss Melissa says:

There was a thread on twitter last night. The pictures are credited to Shutterstock.

If you run an image search you discover they were from earlier in 2021. Which means the images were dug up and released with a deliberate plant of the story – probably at the request of the palace.

      https://twitter.com/Mariabella912/status/1459902799790186499?s=20

I believe she is on the way out.

  5. Rapunzel says:

This is just weird. If her health is so dire, then how was she well enough to travel to her Country Estate for a weekend? And she was driving at one point, for heaven’s sake. And she was/is clearly well enough to be on video.

Sprained back? She could’ve been there on a wheelchair.

My theory has always been standing troubles,, or cognitive or digestive issues. But I’m not sure anymore. But I don’t think she’s going to be changing 7 times for X-mas this year.

    Something very shady is happening.

  6. SAMG says:

STREETS SAYING IS COVID! OMG what if it’s covid cuz she really didn’t care. No Royal or their employees care! I also don’t understand hide it. Why do they want people to see her withering away before their eyes?? No one asking why she should abdicate !? She made a promise ok? Everyone she promised it to is dead. Literally the only person left. I love how the royals don’t know what they’re doing. So embarrassing.

    • ElleV says:

if it was covid and she’s got some kind of breathing machine it would make sense they wouldn’t show her, even if she could sit in a wheelchair

    • Miranda says:

If she dies from COVID, could we say that Ed Sheeran kinda killed her?

      • notasugarhere says:

Or W&K, if they caught it from Sheeran and spread it asymptomatically to QEII a few days later.

      • Sid says:

Good grief, if Willileaks’s vanity event ends up being the cause of QEII getting COVID…

      • SnoodleDumpling says:

If she dies from COVID then Boris Johnson’s political career is absolutely OVER. There’s no recovering from handling a global pandemic so badly that the beloved elderly Queenie dies of it.

Oh, if it is COVID then the Tories are shitting themselves and probably looking for ANYTHING to distract from Queenie’s health, so they might be having more of a hand in the anti-Meghan stuff right now than we think.

  7. AmelieOriginal says:

She might be in the hospital right now as we talk about this. If she dies between now and the Platinum Jubilee which I think is a very strong possibility (and it’s morbid to type this out but she’s 95 and clearly her health is failing), the Jubilee will probably pivot to be more of a celebration about her reign and her legacy as monarch. I am 100% sure there are contingency plans for that if she does pass before the Jubilee. You don’t plan a 4 day extravaganza like that without some kind of backup plan. I know the BRF is incredibly stupid when it comes to leaks and communications, but they know how to do event planning as a huge component involves the family’s security. You don’t just leave details like that to chance.

Clearly her balance/mobility is impaired and knowing the Queen is stubborn as a donkey (she refuses to abdicate no matter what), she doesn’t want to be seen out in public in a wheelchair or a walker. I bet even the handful of times we’ve seen her with a cane she has pitched a fit about it every single time. I totally get why because as soon as she is in a wheelchair/seen with a walker, the media will talk nonstop about it. But she’s 95, most 95 year olds can barely walk.

    • Annie says:

Amelie I read speculation that there is a sort of backup plan to use some of the logistics in place for the Jubilee for a funeral, if necessary.

It won’t be the coronation because IIRC there needs to be a full year of mourning after the monarch dies before the next one is coronated. He obviously becomes king the moment she passes, but I believe the coronation can’t take place until a year later. Charles has literally spent his entire life waiting for something or other.

  8. Laura-Lee MacDonald says:

Something is not right. My grandpa (96) went to hospital yesterday. Things can go bad quickly, and maybe I’m projecting because I’m upset, but I believe the Queen is far worse than the grey men want the public to know. After all, FDR required mobility devices that were disguised and distracted from due to ableism. My grandparents were flabbergasted when they learned later in life that he used a wheelchair, etc. I find it hard to believe that there wouldn’t be a way to even disguise equipment for the Queen on the balcony. Something is up.

    • ElleV says:

I’m sorry about your grandpa – every hospital visit is a held breath

      • Laura-Lee MacDonald says:

Thank you. No one lives forever, but at least in my family we can just be together and grieve when it’s time and not worry about protecting some shitty colonialist dynasty.

    • Fanciful says:

my mum is 95 and in hospital right now. We went through this with my dad too. A lot of things CAN happen at that age. One of the most common is infections like bladder which can make the staff think they are on the way out. But also falls can be catastrophic. Mum has had lots of falls and infections. Staff keep saying she’s about to go but if treated she’s fine. Who knows what’s wrong with the queen. She has best medical care and isn’t being treated like us plebs. No one really knows.

  9. Amy Bee says:

I think the Queen is in a wheelchair.

  10. Eurydice says:

It can happen. My mother hurt her back just getting up from her chair. It was very painful and she would not have been able to stand on a balcony for even a minute, let alone an hour. Even sitting was painful and it took steroids and a month of rest to get her back on her feet.

  11. rea says:

Damn something big must be going on in the palace if the queen has 0 appearances.

  12. Lilibetp says:

I had wondered about the change to a coronation, too. This whole thing feels so weird.

  13. Woke says:

They’re lying obviously but I don’t think it’s that bad that she has only few months or weeks to live. If we read through the lines her issue seems she can’t stand still for long or can’t walk without help. And they don’t want her to be seen with help to walk. THeir whole problem is they don’t know how to credibly spin it.

    • Snuffles says:

Both can be true. They can’t predict her death. But a 95 year old in steep decline is never a good thing. Even if right now the main issue is her ability to stand for any period of time.

    • GRUEY says:

This illustrates again how stupidly shortsighted they are. It’s totally normal for 95 yr olds to fluctuate. Some days they nap all day. Sometimes they need to be in a wheelchair for a month for some random reason. Anyone with elderly relatives knows all this.

But because they are so dishonest, we all assume some weekend at Bernie’s crap.

  14. Lizzie Bathory says:

As someone else mentioned above, I am starting to think COVID makes sense. If she has balance issues, you could still have her sit on the balcony or even use a wheelchair. Surely that would be preferable to insisting that she’d be at the Cenotaph & then bailing at the last minute? And even if she had some dementia/memory issues, she could probably be relied upon to hang out on a balcony for a while.

But if she caught COVID due to being maskless all the time & has complications, her health could be very unpredictable. And it wouldn’t look good for Boris Johnson’s government, which has mismanaged the pandemic from the start, nor would it look good for the Windsors, since the 2 future kings had COVID & they concealed William’s illness.

    • Fanciful says:

her staff would be rapid tested daily. I really don’t think it’s covid. i know people who work in warehouses who get rapid tested daily, so they sure as shit would be. there would be very few people she’s exposed to. And we know willileaks and Kkkkhate don’t see her often.

  15. Feeshalori says:

If she fell, it could be more than a strained back. She could have broken her hip and at this age, that’s pretty serious especially if they need to operate to repair it.

    • NotSoSocialB says:

Not to mention the inevitable atelectasis from reduced mobility/ bedrest that inevitably becomes pneumonia.

      • Feeshalori says:

At that age, you don’t expect to improve, just try to stabilize your condition. And so many collateral complications can occur in a frail 95 year old. We went through the same issues with my 97 year old mom before she passed away.

  16. cassandra says:

I just have this morbid image of the palace trying to keep her alive as long as possible in order to make it to the Jubilee.

Honestly, and I know she wouldn’t agree, but I think it’s incredibly sad she’s going to spend the majority of her life as The Queen. She could have retired 20 years ago and spent this time with her friends and family and no one would have blamed her.

    • heygingersnaps says:

Nah, that’s what she insists on. She’s going to keep trucking on for as long as she is alive to be queen and damn anybody else.

  17. What says:

I was the first to say that California had no plans to come for Xmas. It was all snuff to get a neg article about Meg. I think the telling sign would be if Harry comes to the UK, by himself, he’s the only one I think would take her health seriously. Meg already let it be known Friday when she addressed her hubby family as her husband’s family-the Royal family during her interview that she’s not going to be in UK for as long as possible. That’s also why I’m saying first it’s interesting if she goes at all-, with the christening and know Jason knaff on her. Plus the royals and the rota will jump on the chance to control them during the jubilee. Look how Kate was front and center, the Cambridge kids will be front and center, but its no coincidence. I’m saying here first. No jubilee for Megan

    • Dilettante says:

      +1 on the telling sign

    • Annie says:

What, I wonder if Harry even has anyone reliable and loyal to him, who is close enough to the Queen to know the truth about her health, and will tell him that truth. I can see them purposely misleading Harry so he isn’t there when she dies, and then they can criticize him about that for the rest of his life.

Eugenie is probably his best bet when it comes to stuff like this, but who knows if they’ve even let alllllll of the grandchildren know the extent of it, especially considering Mike Tindall tends to run his mouth with impunity, and anything Kate knows will spread to all of the Middletons, etc. It’s gross but on brand for this family.

  18. notasugarhere says:

It isn’t that unusual. If you search the Court Circular for 2019, she only had a handful of public events in Nov and December. Some behind the scenes receptions and the public opening of Parliament in mid-December. She doesn’t work that much in Nov and Dec generally. That doesn’t mean there isn’t a health issue, but she is never a workhorse this time of year.

  19. Julia K says:

When George V1 died in 1952, he had been in declining health for a long time, the seriousness being publicly downplayed, even to the shock of his own daughter and heir. Read an excellent history book years ago, written by a member of the aristocracy, the name escapes me now, but the message is there. Deny, deny and smokescreen

    • lanne says:

They even actively killed George 5 because they wanted his death to be covered by the more prestigious morning papers than the evening papers. He was euthanized.

      • Jaded says:

I was just coming here to say that. How utterly morbid….the BRF really is capable of the most atrocious behaviour, even in this modern day and age.

      • lanne says:

Someone should remind Charles and William that the courtiers wield a lot more power than they do.

      • SnoodleDumpling says:

To be fair, that was the chief doctor acting alone. It wasn’t like it was some big meeting of the important courtiers and a pack of doctors who all agreed they needed to kill the King.

Also, the papers thing was the secondary reason, the doctor in question was quite explicit that his primary reason was that the King was clearly in great pain and convulsing and he thought it was better to speed up the inevitable simply so the King did not have to suffer any more, and to allow him a dignified death instead of the ugly convulsing and excreting thing.

But I guess people like to sensationalize.

  20. iconoclast59 says:

If the Queen is awake and alert (who knows, right?), I hope Harry is still able to get through to her. I worry that the men in grey will cut off his access, if they haven’t already.

  21. Nyro says:

I knew she wasn’t going to make it to the Remembrance Day events. When they kept insisting that all she needed was some rest and that she would absolutely positively be on that balcony like she always is, I knew it was serious. Now Sussex squad has discovered that they lied about her being “seen” driving around Windsor. She’s dying but the men in grey can’t admit it because chaos would ensue. I wouldn’t be surprised if the men in grey haven’t even told the family the whole truth, for fear of leaks.

Anyway, there isn’t going to be any Jubilee, ok. I’m guessing early Spring, at best. Could be even sooner.

    • Snuffles says:

The entire institution ain’t ready for her death beyond planning her funeral and the heir’s coronation. They aren’t ready for a monarchy without her and they know it.

      • Nyro says:

Yep. I’ve said it before, they all seem to carry on as if she’s immortal or something. This is the result of all the weird worshipping of this woman. The Firm and the media really seem to think that she’s going to be up and at ’em if she just gets enough rest. She’s 95, not 75. People as elderly as she is usually do not get better. She’s declining and they clearly can’t face it because they likely haven’t really prepared the institution for the inevitable. My prediction is that we’ll see her on a few short zoom videos between now and Christmas. And then I think if she’s still alive at Christmas, they’ll prop her up for one last appearance, which will buy them some time until she passes.

  22. Rapunzel says:

I wouldn’t put it past them to Weekend at Bernie’s TQ until after the Jubilee. But I’m still not convinced she is at death’s door.

I wouldn’t be surprised if vanity simply has TQ staying home because she doesn’t want to be seen as frail or weak.

  23. Lukie says:

Personally, I think it is a physical and mental decline. Depression in the elderly can lead to dementia. I cannot imagine what it must feel like at 95 years old, to lose your partner of almost 74 years. I hate to say it, but I don’t think she will be here this time next year.

  24. Izzy says:

I am getting some Weekend At Bernie’s vibes from all of this.

    • Sid says:

People on twitter have been speculating that. At the very least, you would think they would have had her record a brief message for Remembrance Day. But nothing.

      • swirlmamad says:

This is a good point. If she were still fully with it as they are trying to claim, and so disappointed to have to miss the ceremony, they could have easily had her record a short message to be played at some point or another yesterday. Curious indeed.

  25. TIFFANY says:

I ain’t trying to read morbid but, is this woman dead and they ain’t telling anyone about it?

  26. Caseysmom says:

As someone who has worked with cancer patients, I wonder if she has a cancer that has metastisized (spread to her bones). This would explain her needing a walk stick, not drinking alcohol, and the back pain. I hope it’s not the case. And f$ck cancer.

  27. Robin Samuels says:

First of all the Q lost her partner a long time ago. He retired because he was tired of the sham and spent the rest of his time with his mistress. He came home when his health was rapidly failing for optics. Her health is failing. She’s 95, lonely, embarrassed by the series of internal fiascos, for which she must take full responsibility, and to be booed in Scotland must have caused pain too. I honestly can’t say I have sympathy for her. I hope she’s able to reckon with God before she leaves. Diana, a beautiful person with a heart of gold, was perfect for the role. Meghan, an educated woman with loads of potential, could strengthen the link to the Commonwealth. The Q could have shut the smear campaign down and put William in check. She put it all on the line for Andrew. She failed two promising women. For that reason, I am hoping she and Karma are trying to negotiate a deal.

  28. Tana says:

I do not think we will see her walk again. My guess is she fell again and is being told that she can’t walk without a walker or needs to be in a wheelchair. I think they will continue to show us photos of her sitting down “working” on zoom to try to convince us that everything is fine.

  29. Von Barron says:

My guesses are cancer or depression. Between Andys bullshit, Harry (her other fave) gone, William and Charles acting like fools, Camilla, who she detests becoming qc without her blessing, Phillips passing, she’s probably just done. She’s been steadily looking more frail since Phil’s passing. I suspect H&M may have already visited. I don’t know what makes me say that other than an inkling. I feel like her being removed from Buckingham or the toxics being sent elsewhere together so frequently was to slip someone in and out undetected. But yeah. I’m in agreement about the coronation plans, her health being far more severe than let on, and her passing sooner than later.

  30. jferber says:

So much speculation. She took over from her father in 1952. So her reign is longer than most of us have been alive or can remember. I don’t know what they used to do when a monarch died, but I’d guess that has no bearing on what these people will do now. If they think it can buy them anything, then yes, I’m sure they would withhold nationally important information about the queen.
