Will the Princess of Wales make a surprise appearance on the Buckingham Palace balcony for Trooping the Colour on June 15th? That’s the big discussion, and Kensington Palace is allowing the speculation to percolate right now. My guess is that KP is fine with the speculation because it presupposes that Kate is well enough to make the decision for herself, and I’m pretty doubtful that’s the reality (which KP is so desperate to hide). But as I said, that’s just my guess/theory. I could be wrong, and I would feel nothing but relief if Kate is well enough to appear, however briefly, at Trooping. Well, royal historian/expert Tessa Dunlop has some thoughts about all of the Trooping buzz, including her guess that Kate might actually appear. The larger discussion, for Dunlop, is that people need to stop using the Sussexes as a deflection and actually focus on the left-behind Windsors.

While Tessa considers Kate as “British royalty at its best”, she believes her decision on whether or not to attend will inevitably spark “pointless” questions about Harry and Meghan, who are now “out of the picture”.

What’s also bizarre is that in all of the speculation, no one is saying anything about the Wales kids? For the past two years, all three Wales kids have been on the balcony. The kids were on the balcony for Trooping pre-pandemic too. There’s been little mention or preparation for what happens if Prince William turns up solo, with no kids and no Kate.

My guess is there’s a super-injunction in place, that’s probably why they not only won’t talk or speculate about the Princess of Missington, or doubt what they’re told, but can’t really investigate either.

There is literally zero non-grim explanations for the absence of the kids or even just the younger two. If Kate is doing well and running errands she will be fine being alone (with staff to watch her) for a few hours. All 3 kids have been on the balcony since birth so this is not a new experience that would be scare for them. William has been a hands on dad now for almost six months so the kids should be fine with him. The kids are old enough that they can be away from their mom for a few hours. They have a close relationship with Grandpa Charles (lol) so it will be nice to spend time with him and the rest of the close knit loving Windsor family. RIGHT???????
Agreed. For me it’s always been bigger than just MIA Kate. The kids have also not been seen (Photoshop fails notwithstanding) since Christmas, but for a game or two with George. Why wouldn’t Peg do some event with the kids at some point – they used to. Not allowed? Also hidden off at Granny’s with Kate? And the press NEVER mentions them. It’s like they never existed.

These people write as if there’s a significant and meaningful national emotional exchange taking place, in these balcony appearances. What happens when dire straits force the British public to grow up?
What I don’t understand is how do they believe they can cultivate that sort of emotional exchange, trade on it and expect it but then be snippy when people express concerns over one of the most public facing members of the family being said to be ill and unseen for nearly half the year? Why would they expect people to go ‘Oh, O.K….’ if the children aren’t there? The army put Kate’s name out there for a reason, she’s a draw for spectator interest. The few times one can see the BRF is Trooping and then they have the flyover. It’s bound up together as patriotism, of course people will wonder why they are missing. If William doesn’t attend either that will be remarked upon as odd too.

First, there are far too many legit photo agencies with long lenses in attendance. (Chris Jackson may enjoy the “special royal access” he gets, but he’s not lighting his whole career on fire to participate in some shoddy coverup.) No way you could pull off a body double in plain sight at an event like this.
And second, @TigerMcQueen is right- no way Charles gives up even a hint of the spotlight at this Trooping. All three kids will be there, waving dutifully, with Kate gone because “recovery.”
Actually probably the “ safest” way to use the kids. Zero chance of the public /reporters being able to ask them questions or shout things about their mom. Move them in and out, wave at the crowds “ so adorable! So brave!” And whisk them back to wherever they are hiding her.
And while Charles will hate the pull of focus he will consider it a necessary sacrifice for monarchy continuity because so far his reign looks like crap and his heir is a disaster.
I have already suspected this as well @Brassy Rebel… I don’t put it past them in the slightest. But i think they are going to wait and drop another AI video or just later announce her never coming back (whatever that entails…) They have had plenty of time to make another AI video and perfected their flaws. They scouraged the videos and comments from people pointing out the discrepancies in the last one.
They think they got away with that one AI cancer video. It shut the whole American press and British press, except for online chats.

How different this would all be if William took an honest, upfront approach to his wife’s situation. He could show up to events confidently with the public and media praising him for his strength, empathy, and leadership in the face of adversity.
I think that only would have been possible if Kate’s actual story was simply one of illness. There’s some aspect to this story that William can’t afford to have disclosed and too serious for him to pretend away effectively for him to try to conduct himself in a forthright way. And who knows what the children saw this whole time long, let alone the incident that lead up to this point post Christmas, they’re too young to fake normalcy at his side.

Do most Brits actually notice or care about things like this? I know the tabloids feed off it, but is this an event that most people look forward to and is the Big Balcony Scene something they look forward to? I can’t think of anything remotely comparable here in Canada or the US.
I’m British and before Meghan appeared on the scene I had never watched a trooping. I thought it was just some big military horse parade. I guess it’s something royalists and tourists like but the Notting Hill Carnival attracts more people each year than trooping.

Just a question/observation? Am I the only one who thinks it’s strange that of the three children of W&K, we’ve only seen George? Where are Charlotte and Louis? I understand protecting minors, etc. But could it also be to stop them from getting cornered and possibly answering questions they shouldn’t?
Come on, no one is gonna ask questions about their mother to little kids. I am sure when in public, they are surrounded by security and their caretakers. They are not treated like Harry and William who had to shake hands with public on their mother’s funeral. George is the heir, he needs to be seen in the public since this is gonna be his job. I hope they continue to keep other children away from cameras. People are already weird about them.
It was merely an observation that they haven’t been seen publicly or in pap shots since the Christmas walk-about. It seems odd to me given how they used to bring them to public events.
The only public event those two have missed is the Easter walk, which George and William also missed (and obviously Kate.)
From January to Trooping we usually don’t see them. Last year we saw them more because of the coronation in early May, but that was a one-off type of situation.
People keep harping on about not seeing Charlotte and Louis but the fact of the matter is this is pretty normal, especially after they moved to Windsor. It just feels more notable because of Kate’s absence.
If we don’t see them at Trooping then I think there will be a LOT of questions about why.
But the same way George had a sad and tense expression at the game with his father, the little ones would not be able to control sadness. It would show. Kids can’t do poker face like adults.

This Tessa Dunlop woman is such a two-faced so and so. In times past she used to speak truth to power and call a spade a spade. She must have been shunned or seen how much can be made from casting aspersions on the Sussexes because all of a sudden going back at least a year she suddenly began blowing smoke up the Wales’ backsides and describing them in superlative tones while buying into and perpetuating the smears and worst insinuations about H+M. I really would not call her a stateswoman. She lacks all gravitas. Is this some kind of rewrite of what Kate is and does?! Essentially, the author is calling Kate balcony candy but realises it sounds blah, so throws in balcony stateswoman!
Kate has “climbed the ranks”? No, she hasn’t. She married in to “the ranks”. None of the “working royals” have “climbed the ranks”.
I’m more shocked Dunlop referred to Kate as a “British stateswoman”. She makes no policies and doesn’t fully represent any popular causes.
All this will she/won’t she be seen, its just stalling. A source close to the royals said that we may wake up one day and find she’s died. That speaks volumes to me…either she has something like ovarian CA in late stage, or she is already on life support for god knows why and her husband does too, I suspect. The are foreshadowing her death now, and i expect news of it in a couple of months…end of summer, or this fall.

How could Tessa say these words and not suffocated from her own vomit. Whenever the Royalists, RR & derangers praised KKKate, it made me dislike her more. I really don’t care what happened to her. I’m saving my empathy & sympathy for a lot of women & children around yhe world who are less privilege, less powerful and way poorer than she.
The whole premise is nonsense. ‘If Kate doesn’t appear it will lead to questions about Harry and Meghan are bound to surface.’ The tabloid trash writes about Harry and Meghan daily, Kate has nothing to do with it. One article says glad they are gone, the next says too bad they left, the next says the monarchy needs them, all in the same day.
Then the comments go on about how z a r a. Eugenie and Beatrice should work too.
Unfortunately, none of them have charisma or looks…they all look like American Midwest suburban housewives.
