People think Anne Hathaway may have gotten some cosmetic work on her face

Late last week, Anne Hathaway attended the big Ralph Lauren show in New York. It was well-attended by A-listers and B-listers, but Anne got the most attention. Mostly because she’s Anne Hathaway, but there were other reasons. As the photos and videos began circulating over the long holiday weekend, people began wondering: did Anne Hathaway mess with her face? Anne is 42 years old and her face is very smooth and it looked especially “taut” at the show. A tweet about Anne having a facelift went viral and it became a whole thing.

Now, Anne has never been one of those “I will never do anything to my face and I judge people who get plastic surgery” people. Anne is very live-and-let-live. Personally, I don’t think she’s had a facelift. As LaineyGossip pointed out, people need months to heal from facelifts and Anne has been working and she’s been out and about a lot. Now, I wouldn’t put it past Anne to go for some high-end cosmetic tweaks here and there, procedures which heal quickly and are much more subtle than a full facelift. I also think the high, tight ponytail is doing a lot of work here, as is Anne’s makeup and general skincare – she’s a fair woman who takes care of her pale skin and you can tell. I’m including some videos below, because it’s usually easier to “see” cosmetic work in motion.

  1. She may have had some threading done. It does lift some and is quick to heal. I have had it done and I’m older so the threading did what it could lol.

Literally. There is medical grade tape with string that do the extra pulling. Been in use since the 1920’s or 30’s. They have come a long way.

Also. Never. Ever. Ever. Underestimate the effects of using specific shapes of height lighter and concealer and even blush placement to very specific places to create a completely different or slightly tweaked face shape.

Not saying she didn’t do something. Simply saying that there are SO many tools in the cosmetic tool kit.

    • HillaryIsAlwaysRight says:

      Face tape. See Bella Hadid.

  2. Tn Democrat says:

She has lived a life of privilege with lifelong access to the best skincare. She hasn’t been working in fields without SPF. She will age well even if she doesn’t have work done. She may have had some minor work, but the tight ponytail is doing a lot of the heavy lifting.

  3. MC_TO says:

Anne looks amazing. Wish I’d started my pale skin skin care earlier on. Anne and Anya Taylor-Joy should play sisters in something soon.

  4. Kiki says:

Well since she now looks like Ariana Grande I would say it’s a safe assumption.

  5. Yellow lights says:

Duh! Are people blind? But honestly, so what. It’s not great work, she could have done better with her eyes.

    • Lady Esther says:

Agree. I’d say she had a brow lift when she had her kids, has always taken good care of her skin which most likely includes staying out of the sun and a peel or two and whatever other upper end topicals and tweakments (minus fillers…I don’t see them imo) are accessible to a woman of her stature, good genes and wealth. You don’t look like that at 42 without help. And why not?

I think she looks like Bella Hadid a bit too much but it should settle and she’ll be fine, she’s a beautiful woman with lovely features. I’m more interested in the fashion! ALL THE BEIGE and I’m a fan of beige lol

  6. Ghjik says:

Whatever she has had done she looked better before.

Lindsay Lohan looks great, Anne is unrecognizable.

  7. Kiki says:

She looks like Ariana Grande now so…yeah

  8. Erin says:

I’ve seen some of the comparisons videos from experts I trust and I do think she had some work done. The turn around time for young healthy patients isn’t the same as it once was. And she does have a scar in front of her tragus now that she didn’t have before. She looks amazing.

  9. K8erade says:

There are a lot of reasons to not be an Anne Hathaway fan but if she had work done it’s perfect because it’s subtle. It could also be an amazing skincare regime. Either way, she looks good. If I’m going to diss Anne Hathaway, it’ll be because of her Les Miserables Oscar campaign and her Ben Affleck equivalent contrived PR machine.

    • Thinking says:

Is it actually subtle? I thought she looked quite different though I’m always naive and don’t immediately leap to thinking a change is due to plastic surgery.

She looked good before so I don’t get why she had anything done that gives that pulled look.

      • Meredith says:

I agree— she went from looking unique to looking generic. That’s not subtle. And it’s not makeup or hairstyling.

    • Lizet says:

What they are stupid reasons I am a proud Hathaway fan, she was doing her job it she won the award for it, she certainly deserve it more than Sandra bullock for that crap white savior movie, or Rene Zellweger for Judy Garland movie bleh, all actor want that award and most male actors don’t have to pretend they don’t want it, while actresses have to play the I am just a flabbergasted and surprised to be nominated the I don’t really want it but so grateful to be concided, and people like this cite and comments like yours that attached and bullied Anne Hathaway for being honest are the real problem for women.

      • kirk says:

So Sartre was right – hell is other people. But especially in the case of women, hell is other women?

  10. FancyPants says:

I think it’s mostly her ponytail/ hairline, plus she wrecked her eyebrows. Cover the top inch of her forehead in these pics with your finger and she looks mostly the same except her eyebrows. Anne has been my girl crush for over 20 years so I would definitely notice, haha.

  11. PinkOrchid says:

I can see why people would think that. Tight.

Who are the other two neutral ladies?

    • Jaded says:

      Naomi Watts and Michelle Williams.

      • orangeowl says:

To me, Williams looks like she’s had work more than Hathaway does. And I maintain that the best thing Watts did for her looks was her divorce/split, she has consistently looked amazing since then.

  12. Jab says:

She’s had excellent and skilled work done-she has the money and privilege to do so, so why not. But let’s set expectations here because good genes and the best topical creams money can buy can only do so much. Wish celebrities would be honest about Cosmetic work-it would help regular women understand that unless they have money for a great surgeon-the kind of results they are wanting

  13. pam f says:

First glance at her photo on a different site, I thought she was Lindsay Lohan.

  14. SarahCS says:

It does look like work but I’d like to see other recent pics without that hair and makeup combo to get a better idea.

  15. paintybox says:

Hmm, maybe a little filler? Looks like some very subtle filler work to me but what would I know. She’s absolutely gorgeous, she’s grown into her face at this age and has lost that gawky, deer-in-the-headlights vibe. Plus no bangs! Gone! Good for her, she’s rocking being Anne Hathaway!

  16. Meghan says:

Off topic but can we talk about how AMAZING Naomi Watts looks??? 56 yo and crushing it!

  17. Dahlia says:

The hairline is a dead giveaway also the pulled up brows.

  18. Crystal says:

I really hate how people try to explain this kind of thing away as just makeup or lighting (not here in this post, just in general). It’s actually very problematic to insist the unnatural beauty standards of people in this industry are just normal aging (not accessible to us though, regular women, who people start to expect to look perfect because of this commentary).
Everybody in this business gets cosmetic work done. Everybody. They may be little nips or tucks, or injections or deep plane lifts, or laser, or something. If you can’t tell, that’s the sign of good work.
She looks beautiful and has always been beautiful. Whatever work she gets doesn’t change that. I’d guess this is the fox eye and brow lift, possibly filler. Of course deep plane facelifts look beautiful and subtle these days if you can afford a good one, and that’s what a lot of women like Lindsay Lohan are getting. Nothing wrong with it.

    • filledelettres says:

And, honestly, it’s not only this particular industry but the arts in general. It’s just a matter of whether the norm is aimed towards glamour or understatement: a lead art historian at the Ashmolean or a writer with HarperCollins won’t benefit from looking as perfectly polished as an actor, but, in practice, whenever most people able to compete for a particular role are very, very wealthy and it also pivots around questions of aesthetics and presentation, a good proportion will have benefitted from plenty of subtle and far from universally affordable enhancements through their life, not least of all exceptional skincare, finasteride, minoxidil, botox, filler, mini facelifts, and so on and so forth. They are a means of demonstrating status as much as anything else.

      • Crystal says:

Totally! This is super common in job fields like Sotheby’s in NYC or London, or similar things. You’re not the art on display but you have to have the appearance they want. Which is ultimately elitism.

  19. Cindy says:

At first glance she reminded me of Judy Garland.

  20. therese says:

I think she looks lovely. She always has. But, yes, I believe she has had work done. And the old distraction and tope that it is the ponytail. No, it’s not. Her posing and head ticks are interesting. Speaking of hair distraction, I know George Clooney dyed his hair for his play, but he is looking better in the photos of the other article, and I wondered if he had a little work done, and a good time to do it would be when he dyed his hair.

  21. Grant says:

It’s Botox, filler, and a really tight, Ariana Grande-esque ponytail. I think she looks pretty great, personally.

    • Mrs. Smith says:

ITA — Botox on the forehead and around the eyes, a little filler in the cheeks and either overdrawn lips or a touch of filler there too. The pony tail is also doing some work. Her skin looks amazing and dewy, so listen, hats off to her!

  22. olliesmom says:

    Is her ponytail too tight?!

  23. Stelly says:

Whatever she’s doing it’s working! She looks absolutely stunning in these photos.

    • Debbie says:

I think she looks good too. And, let’s face it, she’s only 42, so it isn’t some dramatic overhaul of a difference.

  24. Durga says:

She’s aging as well as a white woman with access to the best skin care known to man can. I’m a TV drama writer in LA & have seen much more & much less. Honestly, the choice is hers & the important thing is that other women & our daughters don’t see her standard of beauty as the only standard of beauty. Interesting, gorgeous, faces come in all shapes, sizes & hues. All we need to do to appreciate them is to open our eyes.

  25. Cherbear says:

I think it’s just makeup and slight tweaks- maybe some filler and Botox- but I think what is throwing everyone off is the ponytail/makeup/contour combo. It’s different for her and severe- that’s giving the weird ‘lifted appearance.

However, from an angle you can still see a slight jowling around the nasal-labial fold and lower cheek… I think this is mostly small tweaks and smoke and mirrors.

But she looks lovely, overall. Not my favorite makeup or look on her, but whatever.

  26. beauxblue says:

women putting down women. You go girl!

  27. Momo says:

    HOLY BUNION!!!

My god that has to hurt. Why on earth would you wear these bloody sandals with those.
Half her toes look like being strangled, too. While sitting!

I guess that explains the bland “I’m smiling but I’m dying inside” look on her face. 💩

  28. Sasha says:

Wow. It looks a little tight in the photos but in motion she looks beauuuuutiful. I mean she has the bone structure and incredible eyes to ‘pull off’ some tweakments quite well I think?
