Van Hunt proposed to Halle Berry but she hasn’t said yes yet

Halle Berry and musician Van Hunt have been together for five years. They were set up by his brother right around the beginning of the pandemic, so they spent a lot of time getting to know one another via text before getting together in person. Over the years, they’ve been very public about how in love they are. On Mother’s Day, Halle even posted that she was spending the day in bed “spinning” with her man. (I was today years old when I learned that “spinning” is slang for sexy times.)

Halle was on Thursday’s Today show as a guest host alongside Jenna Bush Hager. While she was hosting, Van showed up with flowers, and they did their first joint interview together. They talked about how they met and her wellness company, Respin Health. Van also revealed that he has proposed to Halle, but she hasn’t said yes yet! She also hasn’t said no.

Van Hunt knows fans want him to propose to longtime girlfriend Halle Berry.

But it turns out, he already has.

The couple told TODAY.com in an interview after their June 4 joint appearance on TODAY with Jenna & Friends that Hunt already popped the question to Berry.

“So I put out the proposal, and it’s still on hold as you can see,” the 55-year-old musician said as Berry laughed. “It’s just out there floating. You know, maybe you can encourage her.”

As for why Berry hasn’t yet said yes to Hunt’s proposal? The Oscar winner said it’s simple.

“Well, I’ve been married three times. Van has been married once, and so no, we don’t feel like we have to get married to validate our love in any way. We don’t,” Berry said.

“But I think we will get married just because, out of the people I’ve been married to, this is the person I should have married,” Berry added. “And I feel like I should, we should get married, but it’s not because we feel like we have to. I think it’s something that we would like to do just because we want that expression.”

Berry and Hunt went public with their romance in September 2020. Since then, the lovebirds have delighted fans by sharing intimate — sometimes very intimate — moments from their life together.

Berry told TODAY.com her friends and family members have been thrilled to see the joy Hunt has brought to her life.

“I think everybody’s been really happy, at least for me personally, people have been like, ‘You finally found … !’ I’ve always wanted what we have,” she said. “I always saw myself in a committed, loving relationship with like my best friend, someone that I respect and I love.”

When TODAY.com asked the “X-Men” franchise star when she planned to say “I do” with Hunt, she replied, “Soon.”

Berry shares a daughter, Nahla, 17, with ex-boyfriend Gabriel Aubry, and a son Maceo, 11, with ex-husband Oliver Martinez, to whom she was married from 2013 to 2016. She was also previously married to former baseball pro David Justice from 1993 to 1997 and to musician Eric Benét from 2001 to 2005.

Hunt is dad to a son from a previous relationship.

I don’t blame Halle for being cautious. Like she said, she’s had three turbulent marriages. If she’s superstitious, why tempt fate a fourth time? These two are clearly very into each other. Their joint interview is adorable, and gives off the vibes of two people who are extremely comfortable with one another. While they were talking about Respin, Van spoke about how he’s been happy to learn more about what women go through during menopause so he knows how he can support Halle. He also mentioned that all men should be educated about what women go through so they can understand and be supportive as well. I didn’t know much about Van before this interview, but I really like him after watching it. I’m happy for Halle that she’s finally found her person and am rooting for these two to go the distance.

Here’s a portion of their joint interview that Today released for streaming. This does not include the proposal discussion.

My husband, the B+/ A- list actor I mentioned, has been a fan of Van’s for about 10 years and they actually met and played basketball together and I met him a few times. He is SO solid, SO funny and loves 70s funk and is the grooviest kinda guy. He’s had a positive influence on Halle’s son, Maceo with that french actor guy who sued her for support (cant remember his name but he dated Kylie Minogue too) but I cant help but wonder if, when the water gets real deep, is when Halle freezes up. Shes had a few traumatic relationships so she may be skittish. Wishing her the best!

Yeah looking at her history I can 100%…200% see her being incredibly reluctant to marry again, however lovely he is. If it’s really not something she wants hopefully they can just continue as they are.

He seems like a cutie. Wish her the best.

You never really know someone until you marry him. He seems nice now but… Good for her for waiting.

To me, Van Hunt was a British version of Lenny Kravitz – I was huge a fan of both singer/guitarists and still listen to their music. Van had a couple of hit songs in the US and imo should have had more success.

Halle has dated and/or married some really gorgeous men but unfortunately, hasn’t had good luck with them. I think she and Van are cute together and hopefully are each other’s soul mates. Wishing them the best.

Eh I still recall the Gabriel Aubry mess with her and how she went after Martinez when they ended too. Something tells me most of this lies with her.

  5. J.Ferber says:

If I were him, I’d stick to what they have. She seems to marry often and discards them like they are poison, dragging them through the courts and trying to discredit them. I think they are fine just as they are. It’s difficult to see how this can end without Molotov cocktails.
