Yesterday, King Charles “officially” stripped Andrew Mountbatten Windsor of his HRH style, prince title and ducal title. Charles did so by “issuing a letters patent under the great seal of the realm.” As it turns out, that’s all it took for Charles to bypass Parliament and all of the conventions around un-royaling someone. It should be noted that this work-around only “worked” because Andrew agreed to relinquish all of those titles, and Andrew is not putting up a fight about any of this or getting the peerage lawyers involved. Well, obviously, now that Scooter King has seen his father un-royal Andrew, Scooter has a pathway to do the same to his own brother. Incandescent sources were particularly full of bile and rage after William’s big, terrible week in Brazil. From NewsNation’s exclusive:
Prince Harry may have dreams about returning to England … but if and when he does, he’d better make sure it happens soon because once King Charles is gone … so are Harry and Meghan’s (as well as their children Archie and Lilibet’s) titles. I’m hearing from several sources, including Andrew Lownie, the historian and royal biographer, that one of Prince William’s first tasks will be to strip the “duke” and “duchess” titles from his brother and sister-in-law as well as the “prince” and “princess” titles the entire family shares.
“Getting rid of Andrew has been a very useful exercise in showing what’s possible regarding titles,” Lownie told me. “And it’s a warning shot across Harry’s bow.”
“William will further slim down the monarchy,” Lownie, whose latest tome is “Entitled: The Rise and Fall of the House of York,” told me, adding that titles will be stripped from nonworking royals — including Harry and Meghan — so no future embarrassments can touch the Palace as Andrew’s scandals did.
Lownie added it is unlikely William will ever (willingly) be in the same room again as Harry, except perhaps at Charles’ deathbed and possibly funeral — although Lownie adds William may ban Harry from the funeral.
“You know, the King clearly wants to get back in touch with his son (Harry) before he dies, but William and Harry, that’s not going to happen,” Lownie said.
Other sources told me that William doesn’t even recognize his brother anymore.
”[Harry] was never this petulant or spoiled before marrying Meghan. He was not bitter. He understood what ground rules were. This is all a new person we’ve seen since he married Meghan,” my insider said. ”Harry is now unrecognizable.”
William was further infuriated when the Sussexes’ spokesman chose the very first day of Prince William’s visit to Brazil to announce details of Harry’s own overseas trip to Canada for Remembrance events.
“The entire debacle was insane,” my source added. “He sent his people to England to smooth over relations and then steps on William’s most important event of the year. Diary clashes never used to happen.”
The source insists the incident was “deliberate. Harry is a spoiled brat and wants the attention. He is very jealous of William. … He’s not getting good guidance, and he looks miserable all the time.”
And William is done. Lownie predicts Harry will definitely not be invited to William’s coronation … and likely not even to King Charles’ funeral. “Both Andrew and Harry will be banned [from the events],” Lownie said. “The relationship between William and Harry is over.”
Let’s take it beat by beat, shall we? “This is all a new person we’ve seen since he married Meghan.” Harry and Meghan were married in 2018, more than seven years ago. Harry became a husband and father, he moved to another country and left the Windsors behind. Did William think that Harry was going to stay the same old scapegoat/royal-workhorse forever? “He sent his people to England to smooth over relations and then steps on William’s most important event of the year. Diary clashes never used to happen.” Harry’s people insisted that they did inform Buckingham Palace regarding his two-day visit to Toronto. William is pissed that his father didn’t inform him that Harry would be in Toronto this week, and William is enraged that the brother he loathes didn’t… give him a heads-up about his itinerary?

Overall, I expect that this is a preview of coming attractions – this weekend is going to be full of similar tantrums from “royal sources” about Harry stealing his brother’s thunder.

It won’t be until years later that a lone “brave” reporter will reveal what truly happened and hint, ever so mildly, that maybe it’s possible that William “did a bad thing.” Of course, the reporter will dutifully follow it up by saying “not that Harry didn’t deserve it” but they will say that William should not have prevented Harry from attending his own father’s funeral, before said reporter assumed a presumptive crouching position and yelled, “Please don’t hit me, William.”

It might hurt Harry emotionally to be banned from his father’s funeral but it would hurt William exponentially through public opinion if he banned Harry. No matter how some might feel towards Harry, most people can relate to the emotion of wanting to be at a loved ones funeral and they would sympathize with Harry more than with William if Harry wasn’t there. Only horrible people like William and the UK media would be okay with preventing a man from saying his final goodbyes to their last remaining parent at their funeral.

The “styles” of Prince and HRH were taken away by CKIII.
The “title” Duke of York was voluntarily surrendered or more precisely “disclaimed” (due to issuance of check$$$$) by Andrew Glücksburg. The surrendering or disclaiming of the title (as opposed to attainment or removal) allowed Beatrice & Eugene to remain Princesses of York.
Victor Montagu, 10th Earl of Sandwich. did the same thing for different reasons by disclaiming his earldom. Victor’s son remained Viscount Hinchingbrooke until his father died and he succeeded to the Earldom of Sandwich.
This is a totally different mechanism than what what was applied to the Duke of Albany and Duke of Cumberland during WWI.

My point is that it’s all semantics. Regardless of what he’s called what he did remains the same. If their concern is that having a title, a style, or whatever anachronistic thing that they want to assign to it lessens their culpability if it’s removed it does not.
I do think it’s all semantics but I also like to get down to the nitty gritty of just what they’re trying to manipulate. If I’m understanding, the reason Andrew publicly said he conceded his duke title was so that it wouldn’t be stripped by parliament, which would allow his daughters to still Princesses of York. But I guess I’m still confused bc they could still be princesses then just not princesses OF YORK. Gah, lol, it is semantics but they twist it all to serve themselves so I like to try and be aware even though I’m still utterly confused.

Harry literally told a reporter – to their face which is hilarious but probably something he stressed over afterwards, poor dude – that he preferred to be in an active combat zone, being shot at and potentially disabled or killed, to being in England BECAUSE OF THE INTRUSION OF THE PRESS.

I’m sure it is. He’s never been visibly close to the Spencer’s, but it feels like even his Windsor cousins are giving him a wide berth. For a little while there they tried to position the Tindalls as replacing Harry and Meghan, but they don’t even do that anymore. He seems like he has a wholly unpleasant personality, and is incredibly secretive. Who wants to deal with that? Okay, that was my question. The LP only stripped him of the hrh prince styling. Or am I misunderstanding. Technically, while not using the duke title, it has not been stripped by parliament. Unless Charles addressed the ducal title in the LP, but I don’t think he did.
@jais, @tina, removal from the role of peerage, even if effective, does not extinguish or put into abeyance a ducal title. That person just cannot be referred to as a Duke in official documents. All this, assuming they haven’t taken up arms against the UK.
Charles has no unilateral right to remove Andrew from the role of peerage. Andrew, could however request to be removed from the role of peerage, however that still would not extinguish his Dukedom or put it into abeyance.
Now, if in the paperwork to Lammy, a request specifically by Andrew to be removed from the role of peerage that would be one way to do it. However, he would still be the Duke of York. Just not in official documents.
Apparently, there are currently two dukes (and some lesser peers) in the UK who haven’t bothered to go through the rigmarole to be added into the role of peerage yet. But they are still Dukes.
Yes they are gaslighting us, in one of two ways:
1) Charles unilaterally sent a letter to Lammy to remove Andrew from the roll of peerage and Lammy, improperly, complied; and, they are trying to convince everyone it was legal, or
2) Andrew sent a letter to Lammy to be removed from the role of peerage and Charles is taking credit so he can a) look like the big, bad, macho, strong-willed King (that the British tabloid press want) that stripped Andrew of his title, and b) leave the door open for William to try to unilaterally remove Harry from the role of peerage (illegally).

Healthy family systems allow family members to be independent and live fulfilling lives on their own terms. Yet for William, Harry’s independence is a huge betrayal and personal insult. The royal family and all their media enablers are operating on abuser’s logic. Anything less than total submission leads to rejection and punishment.
We don’t know for sure that any of this is true. “Sources” lie and feed the press with those lies. We already know that they lie about Meghan all the time. Why should this be any different?
Yes, I do often wonder how much of the stuff we see quoted here is made up by the press. A lot of it I think. But my point still stands – it makes William sound totally unreasonable and irrational. Do they not realise?
Here’s my problem with that. At some point you would push back on this narrative. Even if it’s not true and you have a general policy against not responding to every story, they have been writing Williams a horrible hulk like monster articles for years now. There’s no way I would want this perception of myself to be out there. And they’re clearly aware, because that’s why they’ve been soft launching the no he’s actually kind and considerate.
I absolutely believe that the media lies and makes up a lot of the supposed things that the royals think or care, but years-long descriptions of your personality type to various media sources? He’s absolutely on board with being portrayed this way.
I’d like to point out that when the press said recently that William had a meeting with his cousins and threatened to take away their (Bea and Eugenie’s) titles, KP quickly announced that the meeting hadn’t taken place. Whereas, all the many times when the BM has said that William will remove the Sussexes titles, KP has never denied it.

Yes, I think you’re right. They do push back on stories they don’t like. They managed to hush up any mention of William’s possible affairs for example. But this narrative that William hates Harry and wants to dish out all kinds of wild over the top punishments has been a media staple for years. William could counter it if he wanted, and he hasn’t. Neither he nor the media seem to realise or care how out to lunch it makes them all sound.
I think KP pushed back because the public backlash was huge regarding taking away the princess’s titles.
William is a deeply unwell person. He’s been crashing out for years now and it’s only getting worse. I have no doubt that becoming King will only exacerbate it. It won’t make him happy and there will be actual things he is forced to do (he will try to avoid some but he can’t avoid all). I also have no doubt that he will strip the titles. But here’s the thing it will only give him a moment of joy. Harry and Meghan don’t need the titles. The Windsors brand is also currently really damaged and honestly not being connected to them gives them even more freedom. I do hope one day this man gets hit by the karma bus though.

It’s so fucking depressing that their takeaway when Harry finally stood up for himself was just, “Meghan ruined him”. I’ve said it before, but it’s like the Harry’s entire native country is that one immature “friend” who can’t accept that his old drinking buddy grew up, and it’s pathetic.
I’m sure many of us have known someone who had a serious inferiority complex or came from a deeply dysfunctional background, and then seen that person completely transformed by a partner who finally made them realize that they deserved better. I saw an old clip a few days ago of Lownie saying Harry and Meghan were a bigger problem for the monarchy than Andrew so I’m not taking anything he says seriously. The rest of the family were doing engagements at the same time that Earthshot was going on but William didn’t seem to have a problem. It would seem that William is the spoilt brat who’s riddled with jealousy not Harry. Harry’s going about his business as the Royal Family wished.

I have been pretty successful in my field. My mother (who’s now gone) and my sister were and are incredibly jealous of me. It’s really hurtful when the people who should be cheering on your success don’t and act as if your success was NBD, they could have done it too but didn’t because reasons.

I didn’t used to think so, because that’s H’s heritage. Now, I think they would be taking the last thing away for the brf and bm to complain about. Harry was born a prince as the progeny of the heir to the throne. I don’t understand how William can take that away. Harry is a legitimate prince, born to the same parents as William. Does he also want to take away Harry’s first name, Harry? I believe William will never be finished with his vendetta against his brother and that his whole kingship will be about how else he can destroy Harry. Remember when he gave advice to Israel about making peace and the reply was, “First make peace with your own brother”? That was a real burn to Will (though he didn’t realize it) that his animosity towards his brother will be his only legacy.
On the flip side, I kind of feel the same way about Andrew. He is a prince born to QE2. As long as the monarchy exists, he kind of is one. I wouldn’t believe Lownie and his bold opinions regarding H&M. He has no Sussex sources, nor does he have any in Willy’s camp; at least not yet – they are ignoring him.
For years, Lownie was ignored (let’s say sabotaged) and hated by the UK royals for previously having written books about them – e.g., the Duke and Duchess of Windsor, and Louis and Edwinna Mountbatten. He sells himself as a historian, but real historians who primarily deal with facts wouldn’t agree. Yes, he sources his stories in (royal) archives, but when he can’t find what he wants to make his ”case”, he fills in the “blank spots” in his books with gossip, tabloid-like assumptions, and hearsay. And that takes up a lot of space in his books.
With his latest book about the Yorks, he is trying to get into the good books of Willy the idiot and his camp/KP by catering to his insecurities, by openly praising him, and at the same time, by taking down and telling lies about H&M in his interviews and media appearances.

This, with today’s Sunday Cenotaph service, really is the most important royal event in their calendar. The claim is that he couldn’t fly back in time from COP30 Belem Brazil – absolute rot. The British Prime Minister there the same days as William was back and in attendance at Saturday night’s Royal Festival of Remembrance. Any diary clashes, Remembrance services win out every time W had no need to be at COP30
This is a big fail: a slap in the face for Armed Forces past and present, and a clear dereliction of William’s duties.

I used to hear the scoundrel mongers podcasts with Lownie as they seem to be critical of the royals. And was shocked with the first about H&M, as they were fully onside the Meghan is a bully story. Lownie simply is one of the Meghan haters and I stopped hearing the podcasts immediately and won’t read any of his books.
After reading spare I thought with his mother’s death Harry lost his whole family. It seems to be even more true to William. He lost the only person who loved him and would have cared enough to try to help him.
As far as your last sentence, have to disagree somewhat. I agree his father, and the system, overall failed him as it did Harry. With Diana’s death, he may have lost the only person he would listen to in any serious way. But I’m sure Harry loved him, and would have cared enough to help him, at least at points in the past. William though, seems to always need someone to feel superior to, and younger brother Harry was always around for that. Will now follows the classic path of pushing people he needs away rather than admit any weakness. Hence, calling the absent Diana paranoid, and his only sibling, who grew up and out of his control, every name under the sun, when actually, he should follow Harry’ lead, get himself therapy, and figure out a better way to live. But that would mean a sea change for Will bigger than he’s going to undertake himself, when it’s so much easier to blame everyone else for his misery.
