For decades, the British monarch has looked down their nose at other European monarchies. Queen Elizabeth II always saw the other European royals as lesser and compromised, forced to modernize and downsize in equal measure. King Charles seems to simply act as a continuation of his mother, refusing to actually make significant changes to how the monarchy operates. Well, as we’ve heard for years now, Scooter King William’s reign will be a lot different. Andrew Lownie – author of Entitled – spoke to NewsNation about William’s big plans to reshape the monarchy in his own lazy image. You see, William doesn’t like “working” before 10 am or after 4 pm. He also doesn’t want to “do” events, nor does he want other royals to do events or have titles. He doesn’t want to travel, so no one else will travel either.
Prince William is gearing up to become King — sooner, rather than later, I’m told — and his vision for the monarchy is going to look very different from his father, King Charles’ reign.
“He will move towards a more European style of monarchy,” royal biographer and historian Andrew Lownie told me. “William is a lot more family focused. He doesn’t work before 10 in the morning and stops work by 4 in the evening and takes very few trips abroad. Everyone needs to come to terms with the fact that, you know, (the royal family) is not going to be able to open every supermarket available.”
The fewer the titles also means there is less of a chance for a degenerate like Prince Andrew (now called Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor) to slip through. Which means, as I previously reported, Harry and Meghan will lose their titles… as well as Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie. It has been widely reported that Andrew agreed to have his titles removed and to leave Royal Lodge in exchange for his daughters retaining their titles… but that deal was done with King Charles.
“William is very concerned about (Beatrice and Eugenie) and their connections with the various people in the Middle East,” Lownie said. Beatrice, who has a career in business, spent this fall traversing the area attending events in Saudi Arabia, Abu Dhabi and Qatar. Eugenie joined her in Doha and Abu Dhabi. The girls have also reportedly refused accounting help from the Palace in its efforts to show greater transparency. But while King Charles feels responsible for his nieces, according to GB News, he is cracking down on non-working royals using royal residences as “subsidized accommodation” and has made it clear that properties will be let at commercial rates going forward. Beatrice has a residence in St James’s Palace, while Eugenie uses a cottage in Kensington Palace as her UK base.
And while that news was welcomed by William, the Prince was aghast at Charles’ decision to name Beatrice as a patron of Outward Bound just days after her father gave up his title.
”They need to go away,” Lownie told me. “There are some more scandals to come (regarding the York family). William wants to nip it all in the bud. With Charles, it’s all too little, and a little too late.”
William will likely follow the example set by Spain’s King Felipe, who, at the start of his reign, was Europe’s youngest king and pledged a “renewed monarchy” and greater transparency. Felip reduced the members of the royal family to six: his parents, himself, his wife and their two daughters. His sisters, brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews were left out. In 2015, he removed the title of Duchess of Palma from his sister Cristina. According to the London Times, “Months before (Felipe’s father) Juan Carlos went into exile, Felipe disinherited himself from his father and cut his €200,000 annual stipend in an apparent attempt to distance the crown from tax evasion and bribery allegations made against him.”
“Felipe also, for the first time, published the royal household’s accounts. The total amount that he received last year from the state for the maintenance of the institution and his family was €8,431,150, a paltry sum compared with their British counterparts. The king’s salary was €277,361.76 in 2024, while Queen Letizia received €152,539.92.”
King Felipe had to make those moves because his family was so corrupt and self-dealing, and because he was and still is dealing with politicians who don’t really give a sh-t about the monarchy in general. While Scooter King William the Workshy (first of his name) will absolutely demand that titles are removed and that work hours are dramatically cut, he’s not going to balance that with increased transparency or less money. He’s still going to want all of the loot and all of the secrecy. Still, I enjoy the fact that all of these royal biographers are trying to prepare everyone for Scooter King’s work-shy reign. Imagine a grown man refusing to “work” more than six hours a day (and they’re generously lying about that too).

Doesn’t he have to get up early for those school runs
But wait, there’s lunch at 12 until at least 2. Lazy azz william lol. Kate’s the same except she leaves straight from lunch to the school run.
I doubt it. But only because I’m sure Kate doesn’t eat lunch.
European royals are not lazy like scooter. So scooter wants to be king sooner rather than later. How morbid and tacky of him.
That also bugged me, that they equal „European style“ with „lazy“ I am no royalist but the European royals do show up and actually do open supermarkets and malls, hospital wings plus go on missions abroad to open and facilitate business opportunities.
The thing is, all those European monarchies get significantly less funding from taxpayers, right? Is William going to accept reduced funding for reduced work? Yeah, I thought not.
I hope #defundthemonarchy will be trendy the day he’s king. His vision is less work, less transparency, more privacy and more money. Definitely not aligning with other European monarchies.
🎯
Ah, the titles. What about Edward’s children, Prince & Princess Michael of Kent, etc? Not to mention Charlotte and Louis. There would undoubtedly be legal and political challenges. Lownie can be somewhat all over the place at times – he is no constitutional expert.
Edward’s children only gave the titles they’re entitled to as the children of a Duke. Lady Louise and Viscount Severn (the Wessex subsidiary title). William can’t do anything about that. If he took the Sussex HRHs the kids would still be Lord Archie (Earl of Dumbarton) and Lady Lilibet. He’d probably leave the elderly Kents alone. Michael has never had a peerage and he’s old. But if they did do something it’d probably be along the lines of the 1917 peerage and styles given to the Tecks and Battenbergs.
I think the Ditch get more per capita of population. Kong WA is always on vacation. The really rich royal euro are Luxembourg and Lichtenstein- so rich they don’t give a crap what the population (very small) think.
Wow, surprised he referenced the actual dollar amount of the Spanish royals, it just makes you itch for the cost of the British royals (anywhere from 10x to 70x more than that) to be more transparent. Willy won’t be happy about any spotlight there, given it’s the one thing he’s never going to downsize.
Statistics compiled at the beginning of 2020 showed that the British monarchy is the institution most expensive for taxpayers. The Spanish monarchy is the least expensive in terms of funding, followed by the Scandinavian monarchies.
In the case of the Spanish, all the castles, jewels and estates are owned by the State. They receive money for security and events and a small allowance for private expenses which is extended only to the monarch, his wife and the heir (Leonor as heirss ; her sister Sofia will be excluded from this allowance once she reaches the age of majority).
A ton of the jewelry is privately owned. They were heirlooms of Queen Sophia (through her mother and grandmother) or wedding gifts Queen Victoria Eugenie took into exile and then bequeathed to her grandson Juan Carlos. His mother Mercedes brought pieces in too.
I really wish him and his wife would stop framing their laziness, as them being family-focused. Plenty of people manage to work more than 6 hours a day, and don’t spend all their time walking through nature, and have healthy relationships with their children.
Also, while I’m sure there probably is a little shadiness a foot with all of his cousins and their Middle East dealings, it’s amusing to me that he’s using it as a knock against them that they won’t allow the Palace to be involved in their finances. They’re grown adults with jobs, them not wanting to hand over their bank account information isn’t that odd. Especially with a cousin that likes control and to lord things over you. I would never give William that sort of access to my personal business. For good or ill.
The palace accounting idea caught my eye too. Considering he’s transparent about nothing in his finances or anything else, it’s interesting they’d take that angle. They absolutely should keep the palace out of their accounts, it would only be used to ill.
Also weird that they call them “the girls.” They’re both grown women with children and husbands and kids. Unlike Kate, they have careers,
I wonder how long his lunch hour is?
It’s far more likely that they are looking for personal information on the women to leak to the press as cover for whatever news about himself that William wants buried. They were also pissed off that Meghan refused to let the palace take charge of her US and Canadian bank affairs.
That gets on my nerves too. If they think 10-4 work days are cool then why not champion that for all people? Plus are the kids only in school for 6 hours? Like their day starts at 10? Are they learning anything?
“We’re up at noon and off to work at one
An hour for lunch and then at two we’re done…”
Apparently Scooter “works” in the Emerald City!
Jolly old town.
Lol, that’s was my first thought, too!
No average family would send one of the kids to work in an office for the day while dad takes a day off. Like george substituting for scooter. And other families need to work to ensure their children s futures. Saving money for tuitions and so on
What does “There are some more scandals to come” mean? Are the rota sitting on something or hinting at new revelations?
Insert “why not both?” gif here, because this family has sordid layer upon sordid layer.
Dim Bill works? Who knew.
A. Lownie is desperate to write a biography on Willy and Kate. It will be sickenly fawning. With no research. It will pander to the Royalists and his reputation as a so called historian will be in the toilet
It will probably be dictated to him by Ma Midds.
Kaiser is right the Spanish Royals had to reform because of corruption. There is an excellent documentary on the old King of Spain talking about his dodgy financial dealings. He allegedly had a room in his Palace which was full of cash and his family members could help themselves to it. I think it’s still on Sky TV in the UK must watch if you haven’t seen it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jWe_Sv6Dls4
As only a part time royal he should lose half his titles as well. Let’s take away the Duchy of Cornwall, where all his money comes from and leave the POW title alone.
I do think that’s what will happen…. his £23m a year income will be removed. He’ll be paid for what he does.
Ok but what exactly does he do from 10 until 4? He does very few events. I doubt he is doing any phone work for any of his charities. So what exactly does Peg the Lazy do all day other than day drink or get on the football forums. He can’t claim the school runs anymore because he said in an interview that Catherine does most of those.
This. Given that the monarch currently holds the position until death, working somewhat reduced hours per day/week is not necessarily crazy, I think. However, they need to be putting in that 25-30 hours/wk at the same consistency a normal person puts in their 40 hr week. So no disappearing for weeks at a time, etc.
I will be so happy when the Sussexes titles are removed. What many of us know, this will not have the impact the haters want. Pretty sure Harry has made plans for his family for when this happens. Their children will be fine and the Sussexes will continue to move forth with their philanthropic and business endeavours. The fallout globally will be for the Wales.
Titles mean nothing in this day and age. The Sussexes are already famous. Taking their titles away won’t change that. William should find more meaningful ways to shrink the monarchy or just do away with it altogether.
Bigly Will, I hope you are spending even 1/8 of the time you do on these asinine briefings caring about your father and wife, both of whom are recovering from/dealing with cancer. Then, maybe, I’d understand why you can’t be bothered to work for the millions of pounds you get per year off the backs of British taxpayers.
Scoot scoot, Willy. Even without the title, Harry is the King you’ll never be.
It’s not a surprise that William is stupid but, really, it’s still always surprising how stupid he is. He wants to reduce the monarchy.
Babe, no. You should expand the monarchy, so that you can do less work and still rake in the money. You want Beatrice and Eugenie to do all the stuff that you’re too lazy to do. You want all of your cousins to do the work. Harry and Meghan were good at the work but, you know, you had to be too racist and awful to allow for them to be celebrated even a little bit. Now you will need every single cousin and second cousin to do the work you don’t want to do after the king dies and Princess Anne, the busiest working royal, retires.
This is the crux of it – he doesn’t want to put in the work or travel, but he also cannot allow others to show him up, either. He wants the money, the attention, and the privileges all to himself. It’s unsustainable.
I find Dim Bill expensive, overrated, overpaid, underworked, undeserving and tiresome with absolutely no shame. A complete dog in the manger all the titles, wealth, mansions, freebies, endless holidays and shameless briefing that he won’t be doing the work because he’s special and is a parent!!
I would be amused if Princess Anne retired when the King dies. Can’t see it happening though, I think she would put the crown first and carry on.
I mean, this doesn’t even say that he works from 10-4. just that he never starts before 10 and is always done by 4. so maybe some days its 10-12, maybe some days its 1-4, maybe some days its nothing at all.
The Spanish royal family is not a good comparison. the abdication, the financial scandals, etc – there were very valid reasons for the increased transparency and the “slimmed down” royal family besides jealousy and vindictiveness. Felipe didn’t cut Juan Carlos off because he was jealous of him.
But I do think this article is drawing a very interesting line between William’s work habits and his funding. Felipe gets 8 million a year to support his family/work (and the salary is interesting, I assume that’s just his to keep and the 8 million is for….I dont know?) and the British royals get at least 10 times that, not counting the duchy funds. Is there that much more bang for the buck to have Anne doing events?
And tourism in Spain appears to be doing alright, especially in old palaces like the Alhambra and the Alcazar.
@Becks Considering Spain gets more than twice the tourists that the UK does and their royals cost less. I find the expense of the British royals hard to justify tbh
Nonsense, you must be mistaken. Without a royal family tourism just collapses!!! I mean, have you even heard of this place called Versailles?? apparently some french king used to live there but sadly no one even knows about it anymore……is very tragic really…..
(clearly TIC lolol.) i agree, the tourism argument for the royal family is incredibly weak.
Where does he learn such nonsense? In Europe, the standard working day is mostly 8 hours. Generally, 8 hours of work corresponds to typical office hours in the private sector, usually from 9 a.m. / 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. / 6 p.m.
For other professions, it is usually from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. / 7 p.m.
There are also people who work at night or very early in the morning, for example in the hospitality sector, where employees often start at 5 or 6 a.m.
So he will end up working less than his own people, who are facing a catastrophic economic situation that forces them to juggle multiple jobs.
“He will move towards a more European style of monarchy,” Except the European royals actually WORK. The entire royal family with the exception of Anne looks lazy when compared to the European royals
BUt the Brits don’t know that. So they’ll use that as an excuse. However, I William is mostly invisible as monarch, things won’t go well. When Queen Victoria went into seclusoin after Albert’s death her popularty plummeted and the republican movement grew. William is a gift to republican movement in the UK.
I can understand it if William wants to prepare the country for his lazy and disinterested style of ruling. Keep feeding enough articles about how he’s a family-man homebody who prizes seclusion and people will start accepting it when the time comes. But that doesn’t fit in with his competing desire to be seen as a global statesman of grand ambition and all around sexy glamour-man. It’s jumbled PR and can only highlight his failures.
@Euyrdice
If that is William’s plan, to hide away, spending more time vacationing, attending endless football games with only the occasion kinging activities, he’s going to still have a big problem. Just because that’s definition of modern kinging according to him, how will he deal with the very busy and visible Sussexes who are very productive and doing endless charity work? I think he’ll soon make himself verrrry unpopular in the UK if he and his disappearing wife are rarely seen as earning their keep but still endlessly vacationing and lording it over everyone.
Very rarely does William and Kate have engagements before 1pm.
Richard Kay reported last Summer that Chuck ‘s friends mock junior as MrTenTillFour. Dim Bill is a disappointment and is unapologetically continuing to get away with being lazy whilst, briefing against his dad and brother and drawing up his revenge list. Is he REALLY going to get away with such an idle life as King?! Do we have to tolerate a King who doesn’t see why he should turn up to work regularly? Do we not get a referendum on whether we need a monarch at all if our monarch chooses to take the money and not fulfill the role because of it’s impact on his private life??!
So a Scooter Monarchy instead of a Bicycle Monarchy. The difference being the Scooter Monarchy involves less work, less transparency, much higher income and many more houses.
“Scooter King William the Workshy” indeed.
Once Louis goes off to boarding school, they won’t have the tone-deaf “we’re parents to the most special tiny children ever” excuse for their laziness. That’s what, in about six years? Wonder what excuse they’ll come up with then.
Interesting that theirs no mention of Kate working or her role in the future monarchy. In all the European Monarchies the spouse has an equal workload and role. The Danish Royal Family even tends to emphasize Q Mary since she is more popular than her spouse.
I believe it’s her intention to gradually fade from view, coming out now and again when she thinks she’s looking good and wants to be photographed. Like this week’s evening do.
She’ll continue getting away with it, I predict, because the press will have/have been told to go easy on her: and they’ve no choice, who else is there?
This might be an own goal for ol’ Scooter – if someone actually ever decides to compare the value per event of the British vs the European royals, I don’t think it would end well for him.
He should just go ahead and end the monarchy … people aren’t going to be happy with this paltry return on their taxpayer money.
I can’t think of another head of state that REFUSES TO TRAVEL. And a head of state is what they are, for better or worse.
William is ALREADY less transparent with the Duchy funds than Charles was. William has already CHOSEN not to reveal financial information that Charles DID reveal. William has his own dodgy connections with Qatar! Lownie is blind. He got one right in Andrew and it’s right back to King William the Great Transparency Advocate who has been less transparent about him and his family’s whereabouts, illnesses, finances, likes and dislikes than anyone in his family before him, including the Queen (from roughly 1992-2010). At least the Queen didn’t treat the name of her dog like a state secret.
My question would be how’s he going to remove Harry’s title when they couldn’t get rid of Andrew’s. Andrew did something serious but not Harry. Does he have to have a reason or he can do this with no push back. Being angry at my brother because he wrote a book just won’t cut it. The Duke’s title removal would have to go through Parliament and that seems to be a no go from them. They seem to have some sense and don’t want to get involved in what would bring the involvement of other royals losing theirs. The HRH’s on the other hand would be the removal of a lot of royals who have that designation not just Harry’s and his children unless he targets them specifically and run the risk of targeting the first mixed race royals for racist reasons. Proving a lot of people right that they family was racist and don’t want any children but the white ones to be HRHs. If I was him I wouldn’t under estimate Harry and Meghan. Hopefully calmer heads would prevail.
If he wants to remove Harry’s title he will have to remove Charlotte’s and Louis’s as well, they are the spares just like Harry was before George was born. Otherwise the world will know that it is racism.
This sounds like a wish list and a warning. I’m irritated that the press keeps repeating that Will will strip titles as if that’s a normal thing when there’s no law-breaking. He doesn’t want to do anything or go anywhere or expected to do or go anywhere, but by god he’ll strip titles. Even though the next sentence says A had to agree (and I don’t think it’s happened yet? I can’t imagine Parliament’s on board with giving any monarch that much power going forward. If Will gets mad that the Grosvenors have too much money, is he going to take their title too?). I also can’t believe the audacity to ask for his cousins’ financials. Why on earth would anyone agree to that; they don’t work for the family whatsoever. And it’s so obviously done to get gossip material, not help them in any way.
He’s such a small, petty, lazy, bitter man. He wants all of the attention but none of the responsibility and no one is telling him how stupid and short-sighted that is. You want to follow the Continental model? You have to work so much more.
Will sees no reason not to continue having this cake and eating it at the tax payers expense without fulfilling his duties. He has never pulled his weight as PoW and will continue to refine his role into unicorn status. The traditionalists will NOT like it when he is King and snubs VJ day or Armistice Day. The age of deference is dead and UK will eventually question the value of a barely visible monarch whose team tweets on his behalf whilst he suns himself abroad!
I know there are jokes about French people not liking to work early in the day (mostly in Emily in Paris maybe) but we are not THAT lazy. Willie just wants to be paid to do nothing of his days.
So Scooter King William the Workshy (first of his name) refuses to travel…except for Earthsh*t.
Then it’s private planes and celebrities in a different country every year, baby!
“Family focused” except for the week long hunting trip he takes with his buddies to Sandringham every September during the school year. And does anyone believe that’s the only time?
