Last September was a big month for royal gossip. Prince Harry was in the UK for four days and ended up having tea with King Charles, which seemed to lead to a nervous breakdown for Prince William. Around the same time, the Princess of Wales was getting headlines for all the wrong reasons, mostly to do with her hilariously bad blonde wig. Kate went viral for the wig, and just days later, she stepped out at a rugby game sans blonde wiglet. The rugby game was part of the Women’s Rugby World Cup, and Kate is patron of England’s national rugby teams. The World Cup matches were spread out across England for a whole month, and royal patron Kate only went to one match. Team England – the Red Roses – made it to the final, which was played on the last Saturday in September. IN LONDON. Kate still refused to go. All she did was send the Red Roses a good-luck tweet before the game. Well, the Red Roses won the Women’s Rugby World Cup, and Kate still refused to see them or visit them to personally congratulate them. Now the poor sausage is being forced to host and attend a reception in the team’s honor.

The Princess of Wales’ first solo royal duty of 2026 has been revealed, and she will host the England Women’s Rugby team for a reception at Windsor Castle in celebration of their World Cup win in September 2025.
Princess Kate, who has served as the patron of the Rugby Football Union since 2022, will host the team, captained by Zoe Aldcroft, on Thursday, Jan. 15. Players and staff will be given a tour of the royal residence before meeting with the princess, where they will show her the Rugby World Cup trophy and pose for a group photo.
She’s making them come to Windsor Castle? Wouldn’t Buckingham Palace be a more suitable venue? That might be out of Kate’s hands though, because of BP’s renovations. So maybe all of the royals have to host receptions at Windsor Castle until further notice. Still, it’s so utterly bizarre that they made the Red Roses wait three and a half months for a royal reception in their honor after they did this incredible thing. Do you think the delay was because Kate didn’t attend the final? Because Kate got some criticism online for not supporting her patronage? The delay feels like a royal snit, I’m just saying.

Kate, put down the wig glue and pick up a lip liner. At least let’s pretend you were born with an upper lip. They’ll all have seen the inside of Windsor Castle already on school trips, winding up with 15 mins in front of Queen Mary’s dollhouse. Seeing it as an adult was cool in a different way, but again, they’ve probably already done that, too.

Why isn’t it happening at Kensington Palace where her staff and office are? They have that mansion sized apartment that went through multiple rounds of renovations after all.
