There’s already so much analysis about Bad Bunny’s Halftime Show and why this is the thing which finally broke Donald Trump and his MAGA cult. The Hollywood Reporter’s analysis was basically that Bad Bunny is an excellent foil because he’s so popular in the US and internationally, and because Benito never engaged with Trump directly or responded to Trump’s racist tantrums online. They also cited Benito’s message of joy, love and inclusion, which stands in such stark contrast to Trump’s hatred, doom and racism. The gist of all of these nervous breakdowns is that an American citizen and Puerto Rican performed in Spanish to a global audience which enthusiastically embraced the message of love, joy and inclusion. All of THAT is being described as uniquely unamerican to these MAGA trolls. Megyn Kelly had a real mask-off moment on Monday when she was a guest on Piers Morgan’s show:
Kelly, who had previously said that she would be changing the channel as soon as Bad Bunny’s halftime show began and that she liked her halftime shows “in English from ppl who love America,” was invited onto the Monday episode of Piers Morgan Uncensored to discuss the topic with the 60-year-old British host.
“I’m sorry, Piers, but to get up there and perform the whole show in Spanish is a middle finger to the rest of America,” Kelly argued, becoming increasingly visibly irate as she continued to rant, “Who gives a damn that we have 40 million Spanish speakers in the United States? We have 310 million who don’t speak a lick of Spanish.”
“This is supposed to be a unifying event for the country, not for the Latinos, not for one small group, but for the country. We don’t need a Black national anthem. We don’t need a Spanish-speaking non-English performer. And we don’t need an ICE or America hater featured as our prime time entertainment.”
When Morgan pointed out that the U.S. does not have one official language—President Donald Trump issued Executive Order 14224 in March 2025 designating English as the nation’s official language, but it is not a federal statute, which would require an act of Congress—Kelly became even more incensed, telling Morgan that his attitude was the reason Great Britain has lost its culture.
“You ceded your culture to a bunch of radical Muslims who came in and took over and now it’s gone. We’re not allowing that here,” Kelly told Morgan. “Whether it’s Hispanic, whether it’s Muslim, it’s not happening in the United States of America. That’s why President Trump was elected. And whether it’s Bad Bunny, who is American but refuses to speak English in his performances, or anybody else, we have to keep the Super Bowl, which is a quintessential American event.”

Do you think Megyn or any of these MAGA snowflakes ever stop and wonder if throwing a screaming hissy fit and demanding that everyone be as racist as them is probably the wrong message? Even for a cult. Megyn’s argument is truly that the Super Bowl should be a “safe space” for racists, that it should be a Klan rally and all-white all the time. What makes Megyn and her Klan ilk even more upset is that the NFL is all about what Bad Bunny represents: a global audience. The Super Bowl and the Halftime Show are no longer for a solely American audience or a solely white audience. But Megyn Kelly is going to wail until she gets her Klan rally Halftime Show, damn it!!

I heard the joy in that music. That’s never happened to me before. I was entranced by his show. I learned so much about the people of Peurto Rico. The people are full of life, love and joyous laughter. I learned how they celebrate and even how the people of PR throw their weddings. Even the trees get to laugh. It really was the coolest and most educational Superbowl half time I’ve ever seen. Admittedly I’ve watched very few and wasn’t going to watch this one either. I caught the opening minute and was hooked.

I don’t know what the problem is with him singing only in Spanish. Even if you don’t understand the lyrics, you can always go on google and look at the translation. I listen to Italian, Spanish, French artists all the time despite the fact I don’t speak any of these languages. I can look up translations of the lyrics if I want to know what the song is all about. It doesn’t take away from the music itself. It was a great show with high energy and great dance music. IMO there are plenty English language songs out there that would be better if the lyrics were not understood.

Having grown up in Mexico, Spain, and the US, geography is taught differently here than it was it the other two countries.
I grew up knowing the American continent as being one large continent, subdivided into 3, north, central and south. The rest of the world, from what I understand, is also taught this way.
America does not mean just the USA, never has, never will.

The US is not the only country that learns there are seven, there’s a few others as well. Some countries classify Europe and Asia as one continent, some have them as two, some have the Americas as one continent, etc. So it depends on the school of thought I guess but its not as simple as “the US is taught one thing and the rest of the world taught another.”

I want to sit them all down soooooo badly to give them a history lesson. Spanish is as much a part of the US as English is. It was the first European language spoken in the US when St. Augustine was founded in 1521. Not only does the US not have an official language, but the Spanish were colonizing present-day Texas, New México, California, and Arizona starting in the late 1600s. All that territory was then part of Mexico when they gained their independence from Spain in 1821 (after 11 years of fighting btw). It wasn’t until 1848 with the treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo that Mexico ceded all this territory to the US (Texas declared independence about 10 years earlier). So for 200+ years that part of the US were Spanish speakers – about 20% of the US in terms of land area.

I’m a metal head and I LOVED his show. It was a block party I so badly wanted to attend! I also speak conversational Spanish (though it has gotten rusty) so I did manage to understand a lot of it but it wouldn’t have mattered. that show was excellent!
On a metal forum this actually came up, one guy going on and on about an all Spanish show in the USA. He was immediately jumped on by people not just me pointing out highly successful, in the USA!, bands like Rammstein (Germany), babymetal (Japanese), The HU (Mongolian)….it was delightful to watch the dog pile.
