Prince Andrew was accosted by a ski-mask-clad man in Norfolk on Thursday

I’ve never been super-conspiratorial about all of these royal “security scares.” I think even the most conveniently-timed security issues are probably real, in the sense that it must be pretty easy for random people to scale a fence or wander through a massive royal property. But yeah, this current situation is going to turn me into a conspiracist. It seems that a “balaclava-clad man” threatened Prince Andrew in Norfolk on Thursday. The same Andrew who lied for years about his relationships with Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell? The very same. The same Prince Andrew who was arrested in February and is still being investigated for espionage, bribery and sex trafficking? The very same. Man, what a conveniently timed “poor Andrew, he needs royal protection” story. Sidenote: for Americans, a “balaclava” is just a ski mask. I keep thinking they’re saying a “baklava-wielding man” and I’m like “why is a tasty Greek pastry such a threat to royalty?” But that’s not what they’re saying.

A balaclava-clad man has been arrested after allegedly threatening Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor close to his new home, The Telegraph can reveal. The incident occurred around 7.30pm on Wednesday near the Sandringham Estate in Norfolk while the former prince was out walking his dogs. The Telegraph understands the man had been sitting in his car when he saw Mr Mountbatten-Windsor about 50 yards away. The man stepped out of the vehicle and made his way towards Mr Mountbatten-Windsor. It is not clear whether he had been waiting for him. The man was allegedly shouting and acting in an intimidating way. It is believed a crowbar was recovered from his vehicle.

The former Duke of York, who was accompanied by a member of his private security detail, rushed towards his own car, parked nearby, and drove away at speed as the suspect allegedly tried to sprint after him. The Telegraph understands the incident took place on public land in a lane close to the Sandringham Royal Parkland.

Norfolk Constabulary was alerted and officers attended the scene where they arrested a suspect and took him for questioning. A spokesman for the force said: “Officers were called to Wolferton shortly after 7.30pm on Wednesday following a report that a man was behaving in an intimidating manner in the village. Officers attended, and the man was arrested on suspicion of a public order offence and possession of an offensive weapon. He was taken to King’s Lynn Police Investigation Centre for questioning, and remains in custody.”

The incident took place close to Marsh Farm, the property on the Sandringham Estate where Mr Mountbatten-Windsor relocated after leaving Royal Lodge in Windsor last year. It is understood the former duke, who was shaken by the incident, was asked to provide a statement about the incident, as was his personal protection officer.

There have been concerns he could be exposed to more security threats since moving to the rural location. The King withdrew his younger brother’s personal allowance and private security provision in 2024, as he attempted to force his removal from Royal Lodge, his Windsor home. Since Mr Mountbatten-Windsor eventually agreed to vacate the property late last year and relocate to the Sandringham estate, security has been a critical concern. The Norfolk estate is largely open to the public and affords the former duke none of the protections he enjoyed when within the wider royal security cordon at Windsor.

A source said: “This shows why Andrew’s security provisions need to be proportionate and properly balanced for an individual with a very high profile. Surely this demonstrates why his security should be reviewed.”

[Another] source close to Mr Mountbatten-Windsor said: “Even though Andrew is no longer a working member of the Royal Family, the threat to his personal safety is greater than ever. In fact, it could be argued that he is actually more at risk, not only from a potential terror attack but also from individuals who have become fixated due to all of the coverage he has attracted over recent years. This incident clearly demonstrates why his security provisions need to be appropriate for someone with such a high profile. There should be a review, which gives proper consideration to Andrew in the light of what has happened.”

[From The Telegraph]

I mean, it sounds like the guy was lying in wait, but to do what? To shout at Andrew? No one is saying that this guy actually threatened Andrew with a crowbar or a weapon of any kind? I’d also be interested to hear what the guy was shouting at Andrew. Was it some variation of “you ugly nonce?” It’s an absolutely crazy leap to go from “some guy shouts at Andrew” to “Andrew needs full taxpayer-funded royal protection!” Notice how they’re playing fast and loose with who pays for the “private security” Andrew still has as well – they’re trying to claim two things at once, that Charles removed Andrew’s private security in 2024 AND that Andrew still has a full, privately-paid security team who comes and picks him up at the police station after his arrest and protects him from pastry-wielding citizens. My theory is that Charles never removed Andrew’s private security, and that Andrew still has some form of royal-protection, probably more like a support team aiding the private security. So sure, let’s have a “review” of that. I’d like to know how long Andrew and Charles have lied about it.

Sounds pretty far fetched to me

    • Gtwiecz says:

      Two things:

They’re prepping to give Andrew publicly funded security. The story was that Charles was paying for his security before.

And, they’re testing to send Andrew back to Windsor, to one of the properties there, maybe even back to Royal Lodge (yes, seems absurd but this family knew about his relationship with Epstein and Ghislaine for almost 20 years and have protected Andrew all the way. They only took some action when Virginia’s book came out). This “attempt on his life”, which I find very strange, could be an excuse. Maybe Trump, master of set ups and staged events, gave Charles the idea 🙂

Charles’ effusive post about Eugenie’s third child. Seems “Operation Bring Back or Save the Yorks” is under way. Huge contrast with how he treats his younger son and grandchildren.

      • Smart&Messy says:

Why are these people so stupid? Charles should be grateful for every single day that passes without Andrew being mentioned in the press. They’ve been keeping secrets upon degenerate secrets to themselves, so why can’t they just keep paying for Andrew’s existence in Norfolk and STFU??? Interesting that this super dangerous intruder comes after KC is safely away from the USA and the Epstein victims.

  2. Chantal1 says:

Surely he’d be safer behind bars…where he belongs.

Those arguments for the necessity of security for Paedrew are the same arguments that apply to the higher profile Sussexes. Can’t believe this scribbler actually wrote this nonsense with a straight face…

    • Hypocrisy says:

Exactly, put him under guard in a 10×10 solitary confinement cell where no one but the guards has access to him and he will be perfectly safe. A man under arrest with an active police investigation for selling out his country to rape trafficked minors and women should not be under the protection of that government through the RPO. Let him pay for unarmed private security like they make others do, it’s disgusting that his security hasn’t already been pulled but Chuck and the BRF have a very real history of protecting the pedos and rapists in their orbit.

No replace that with “Harry” and “the Sussex family” and then come again that a “non working royal shouldn’t get security or even a risk assessment”. Then we can talk about poor old Andrew having a scare.

My only question is, when he was whisked away by his bodyguard, did the car follow him while he was walking his dogs? Did they leave the dogs behind? Did they send someone to walk the dogs home?

    • 2131Jan says:

Just substitute “Harry, Meghan and children” and it becomes another story, doesn’t it?

      • Hypocrisy says:

        It’s sure does…

      • Brassy Rebel says:

My first thought as well. Some unarmed guy in a ski mask yelling at the creep becomes, “This is why the family pedophile needs royal level protection.” But Harry and family? Nah!

  4. Hypocrisy says:

Loved the explanation between the ski mask(balaclava) and the delicious dessert (baklava) not everyone has lived in a Greek neighborhood in a snowy state..

  5. Jais says:

Yeah, I’m with Kaiser. Andrew has always had protection and it’s a lie that it was ever taken away. Security is used as a means of control. That’s why Harry doesn’t have any. They’re controlling his ability to visit the Uk.

    • Tessa says:

Even h is ex Fergie had protection when she lived in that wing of Royal Lodge. This is such a farce. There should be a lot more protests of the monarchy.

    • Melinda Gaeke says:

I have another take on Andrew’s e security issue . The British press and social media influencers need to be quiet when it comes to Andrew. Stop calling him a pervert and pedophile when he has never been charged or convicted with anything. Remember that none of Epstein’s trafficked victims ever went to the police and filed a complaint. A complaint would have gotten the ball rolling toward charging and a trial. I believe that what got the ball rolling in Miami was that a parent filed a complaint with police that their teenager seeed to have a lot of money the child couldn’t explain.
What surprises me is that more attempts haven’t been made against Andrew

  6. HillaryIsAlwaysRight says:

I love this for him. Let him worry about his personal safety, just like all the Epstein survivors who have spoken out do.

  7. Siri says:

I thought Andrew was under a form of royal house arrest. I’m actually amazed they let him out. I don’t understand how they were calling a crowbar in someone’s car a weapon when it hadn’t been removed or wielded in any way towards Andrew.

  8. Kittenmom says:

Didn’t charles say that harry didn’t need protection bc if anything happened to him, the public outrage wouldn’t be significant? I think the public outrage would be nil if anything happened to Andrew.

  9. Vesnia says:

I thought he was no longer a prince.

  10. tripp_ncwy says:

The conspiracist in me view this as a way to save face at returning Prince Harry’s security in the UK. They have been bending over backwards to try to find a way not to return his security even though their own evaluation process shows it is warranted. If Andrew has his returned then they can slip Harry’s in as well to try to save face.

  11. IdlesAtCranky says:

    A) If the Firm wants to make some money, and when don’t they, I think they have a golden opportunity here.

Just sell tickets. Let people queue to have a go shouting at Andrew. I bet they’d make a mint.

    B) Not for nothing, but why did he drive his car off the estate to walk his dogs?

Isn’t the point of being housed in a cushy, freshly renovated, five bedroom + two reception room home complete with stables, the ability to keep the latest family pedophile out of public view?

We already know the villagers don’t want him there, they said so. If I were anyone responsible for that steaming garbage pudding, I’d tell him to keep his head down and stay out of sight.

    • BeanieBean says:

That’s what I was wondering! Why drive some place to walk your dogs when you live in the middle of protected parklands?!

  12. Amy Bee says:

I think this was done so they can justify Andrew retaining royal protection. I do wonder whether the decision about Harry’s security is about to be released .

  13. YankeeDoodles says:

I tend toward the conspiracy school of speculation if only because your average resident of Norfolk would feel no urge to don a mask in order to insult this human turd.

  14. jferber says:

May he be harassed in the streets for the rest of his life.

  15. QuiteContrary says:

Crap, now I’m hungry for baklava.

Why would that guy remain in custody for shouting at Andrew, when Andrew was pretty quickly released from custody for actually terrible alleged crimes???

And Andrew was shaken? Virginia Giuffre must have been pretty shaken, too.

    • Christine Mills says:

Did Andrew Windsor run leaving his dogs and the security guard?! If so add coward to the list of his other charms.

  16. Newt says:

Prince Andrew using using a play out of Trumps playbook. When the heat gets too hot, stage an attack/assassination attempt.

  17. BeanieBean says:

So Andrew lives on the Sandringham Estate, which from what I can see online is composed of lovely parklands. And he drives his car to another part of the estate to walk his dog? Why? Why expend time & fuel to drive somewhere to walk your dog when you can just step outside and…walk your dog?

  18. BeanieBean says:

So, next time Harry goes to the UK–for his Invictus stuff–somebody just needs to shout at him & then he’ll get protection?

  19. Magdalena says:

OH – so suddenly it’s okay that someone who is “not a working royal” but who “has a high profile” to get security in light of people possibly becoming “fixated” on this man who continues to dodge the serious consequences of his criminal behaviour? Interesting. And Prince Andrew doesn’t even need to go to court to demand it!

If Andrew does not already have security, and was just out on his own walking with his dogs, WHO called the police so that they SPEEDILY arrived and managed to arrest the “balaclava” clad man *on the scene*? Because the reports aren’t saying that the prince called them. There is a lot of obfuscation going on in these reports.

And it is galling that they are only NOW beginning to pretend to realise that prince who really does have a very high international threat level does need proper security – because they want the nonce to have this.

If this discussion and demand for security for Andrew does not open the eyes of the sheep who swallow UK media lies about H and his security battles, nothing will.
