Donald Trump called ABC’s Rachel Scott a ‘bitch’ when she asked about gas prices

In the past seventeen months, Donald Trump has demolished the White House East Wing, lied about who will fund his stupid f–king ballroom, taken over the Kennedy Center and then shut it down (“temporarily”), and started the most idiotic war with Iran. But don’t forget this: he also had the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool, at the foot of the Obelisk, completely drained. He decided that the Reflecting Pool needed renovations, so it’s been sitting there, dry as a bone, for weeks as some MAGA dumbf–k contractors are “painting” the bottom. Well, on Thursday, Trump staggered over to the Reflecting Pool to check out the progress. One reporter, ABC News’ Rachel Scott, called out a question: “Why focus on all these projects as gas prices are soaring?” He called her a “disgrace to the country” and a “bitch.”

Disgusting. What bothers me even more than this demented moron’s rampant misogyny is the fact that other pool reporters or White House press corps reporters never step in and defend their colleague in real time. There’s never a voice saying, “that’s extremely inappropriate” or “stop speaking to a woman that way.”

Rachel Scott’s question is completely valid, btw. Nationwide, gas prices are $4.55 a gallon. In many states, the price exceeds $5 or $6 a gallon. Considering just two years ago, the national media was writing hourly stories on egg prices, it’s infuriating to see how little pushback Trump has gotten on his unhinged war strategies and economic strategies.

My anger is boiling. As it often is these days. Deep sigh.

    • DK says:

Same. All the time now bc of this stuff.

      This so much.
All they do is parrot his BS and are thus complicit in it.
Instead, every single reporter should turn around and walk away the next time he does something like that.
He’s dismantled all professional norms of the president, there is absolutely no reason for them to remain beholden to their professional norms of covering the president.

      • Bqm says:

I feel like there’s an agreement to not feed the beast when this happens. Because they know it will. Just stay professional and move on. Because he’d turn any defense into an excuse to go on a further “fake news” grievance rant to distract from what he’s being asked. And we also don’t know that the women, because they’re almost always women, want a colleague riding in to defend them. Because that’s probably be used against them too.

      • BeanieBean says:

Better yet, just put the cameras down. Or, don’t show up at all. Why provide free press to this guy? He wants to be in front of a camera every single day–no president has ever done that before and we absolutely do not need that. It’s a need for trump. Don’t give it to him.

      • bisynaptic says:

        🎯

      • Daisychain says:

If it is an agreement to not feed the beast, I do not agree to this agreement. Trump is a rampant misogyinst, and never lets go on male journalists the way he does on women. We’ve still got a little less than 3 year more with this t-u-r-d (metaphorically and literally), and the White House press corps should figure out how to deal with this.

      • Bammy says:

The press, all, are complicit in his behaviour IMO. If they stopped showing up they would still have lots to report on (prices, inflation, war). None of what he says helps or gets something important for their report. I truely believe both sides benefit from this clown show- views- and for that I have zero respect for the press corps. They’ve put viewership above actual reporting.

    • Megan says:

If Trump hadn’t defunded the National Park Service this would have been addressed under regular maintenance. Instead he creates a problem, fixes it at an astronomical cost and then call himself a hero.

      • BeanieBean says:

It’s more than that–although yes, that’s part of it. It’s trump comparing ignoring laws & federal regulations, in addition to basic norms. It’s NPS’ job to maintain DC monuments, but that also means following federal resource protection laws like NEPA & the NHPA (National Environmental Policy Act and National Historic Preservation Act) and trump just doesn’t want to do that. So he ignores it. The NPS also has its own resource protection policies and again, trump just doesn’t want to do that. Those NPS officials who haven’t been fired have been kissing his *ss since his election and here we are, East Wing demolished, the gilding of the remaining White House, plans for Arches throughout the city, the draining of the reflecting pool and–are we sure they’re just painting the bottom? Are they gold to put gold leaf in it?–god only knows what else.

    • TheFarmer'sWife says:

This is the new “bro code” for males reporters (I use the term loosely now because cowardly much?). Let those darn women ask the tough questions and take it on the chin! One almost gets the impression the male reporters enjoy seeing their much braver, more intelligent female colleagues being openly berated by agent orange. All of this random construction is yet another distraction from this administration’s rabid corruption and the Epstein Files.

  2. Moira's Roses' Garden says:

There’s a reason why I’m not a reporter because the way I would’ve clapped back with a QUIET PIGGY in a nanosecond would’ve gotten me deported.
And lets face it, there’s a reason why none of the reporters stood up for her but then expect Michelle Obama to come out and support Malaria when people call her out on her actions.

Fun Fact: The NYT was the only US news source to not have a reporter unalived while covering the N@zis. Some things never change.

    • lisa says:

besides replying quiet piggy being the right thing to do – I think that person would be able to get out of this stupid circus of pretending to ask him questions and be our queen. write. a book, start a podcast, anything is better than this farce.

  3. HillaryIsAlwaysRight says:

Remember this the next time someone tells you there is no difference between the 2 political parties: The Republican Party is still in lock step with their Dear Leader, no matter his increasingly unhinged behavior, whereas the Democrats deposed theirs after he ‘got old’. The corporate media was all over Biden’s visible aging, although his administration was still competent and doing a great job for this country. Trump shows us daily that he is in cognitive decline – which includes losing one’s verbal filter – and the corporate media doesn’t call it out. I keep having to tell my kids none of this is normal or appropriate. A whole generation is growing up thinking this is how an American president behaves. He and members of his administration and Congress now regularly use vulgar language and profanity. Our civil discourse is in a race to the bottom.

  4. OpheliaAEA says:

He endlessly confirms he’s an abuser of women. He’s a shambolic disgrace. Solidarity to Rachel.

    • Josephine says:

I honestly think that was part of his platform – many men enjoy the fact that he has a history of abusing women, and some women seem to think that he is appropriately degrading “women who do not know their place.” People wanted this. People suck.

      • kirk says:

Not just men either. There have been plenty of tRump-supporting women who’s exulted how great he is—’tRump tells is like it is’ [whatever that means] seems to be their reason for supporting the jerk.

  5. Miranda says:

When I was in high school, I was editor of our newspaper and several teachers encouraged me to become a professional journalist. This incident shows precisely why I couldn’t do it. If he spoke to me like that, my response would be along the lines of, “why can’t you answer the question, you senile, shit-stained, pedophilic rapist c–t?” And that’s if I were trying to be polite.

    • Lightpurple says:

With me, he wouldn’t have gotten past “baby” and would have been called out on the spot for sexual harassment

  6. Nicole says:

He was more than misogynistic. He was racist AF implying that Black women are dirty. It was disgusting.

    • Brassy Rebel says:

This👆! They are returning this entire country to Jim Crow and there’s hardly a peep from anybody.

    • Tiffany :) says:

Yes, the dirt comments were especially gross. He’s extra vicious when he targets Black women.

He’s the worst. I can’t think of a more terrible person alive today. The embodiment of the worst of humanity all wrapped up in a bloated, stinking, pink-eyed man.

  7. Becks1 says:

I agree, I wish someone in the press pool would stand up for the women there. he doesn’t speak that way to male journalists. He can be rude to them, but not degrading.

I guess I dont get why the press is even covering him like this anymore. They’re not reporting on his obvious cognitive decline, or really addressing the shitshow that is this administration, or the horrible things that are being done – its all kind of glossed over. And then the press wonders why they’re losing people’s trust. I remember after the WHCD someone – I think Capehart? – was on CNN or MSNBC saying how he doesn’t understand why people don’t believe the press reports of the incidents. Uhhhh…..because some of us are old enough to remember how you all treated Joe Biden in 2024?

    • Blithe says:

Perhaps because this isn’t just about standing up for women — it’s about intersectionality. Black women are often left unprotected— unprotected by American systems, institutions and laws, as well as unprotected by our supposed colleagues and even by our supposed allies.

      • Becks1 says:

Absolutely, and I don’t disagree with that. Implying that she’s dirty etc is 100% racist. He doesnt like anyone questioning him, especially not a Black woman.

But the men in the room don’t stand up when he insults white women either. It’s like everyone there is so afraid of losing access and I’m like – ACCESS TO WHAT???

      • Blithe says:

Perhaps it’s less about access and more about fear? Trump’s model — minus the good food and the code of ethics — seems to be modeled on mid-century mafiosi as depicted by Mario Puzo. I’ve, fortunately, never been in Trump’s reportedly fragrant presence, but I’m imagining that his effort to project a menacing aura is quite real. Trump was cruel, impulsive, malevolent and racist long before he was a politician. The men in the room might simply be grateful not to be the scapegoats themselves. It’s probably even easier to rationalize their reticence for those who never saw the “other” female journalists as true peers. That’s my unsupported speculation, anyway.

  8. Lightpurple says:

He also called her “baby” earlier in his rant. His misogyny and abuse of women was on full display and it needs to be called out by everyone. Members of his staff, Cabinet and Congress need to be asked why they are allowing this and the correct answer is never “but ….”

He’s not the victim; he’s not. He’s an abuser.

  9. Chantal1 says:

Rachel Scott is a Black female reporter who dares to question him. He was also rude to her (and the org as a whole) during his 2024 campaign interview with the National Association of Black Journalists. He’s a disgrace in every way. He also knows that the constantly rising gas prices and never ending Iran War are tanking his presidency and he is in full on panic mode.

    • Brassy Rebel says:

I’m convinced the reason the men don’t say anything is because they are cowards. They are fine with letting Black women be verbally assaulted. They figure better them than me.

    • kirk says:

At the July 2024 meeting of the National Association of Black Journalists, where tRump told Scott that Kamala Harris “happened to turn Black,” he was all ways rude.

Last December, tRump told her she was a “terrible” reporter for asking him about U.S. strikes on supposed drug boats in the Carribbean.

Rachel Scott. Good name to remember.

  10. Sue says:

I hope the end is excruciating.

  11. Blithe says:

I am completely unsurprised to see that Rachel Scott is a Black woman. This isn’t just about how this demented sack of pus responds to the press when a journalist has the temerity to question him. This is also about how this nasty old lifelong racist views and treats Black people — particularly Black women, and how unprotected Black women are systematically and by their supposed professional peers and professional organizations in the face of the racist aggression of people like Trump who hold much of the power in this country. Let’s see how long it takes for this incident to be forgotten, or even normalized as the MAGA in Chief scrabbles on to his next fit of temper.

This is sickening. It’s yet another effort to dehumanize people who look like Ms Scott — and like me. This is who and what millions of Americans voted for. This is what Republicans are quietly cheering on when they support “anti-DEI” measures. This is why 92% of us voted as though our lives and our well-being and the future of our children and our communities and our country depended on it.

    • Brassy Rebel says:

Yesterday, the Tennessee legislature divided the Memphis congressional district into three parts disenfranchising its majority Black residents. The governor promptly signed it. This was one week after SCOTUS told them this would be fine. And John Roberts is upset that people think SCOTUS is political. The legacy of the Roberts court will be worse than that of the court that gave us Dred Scott. If we don’t speak up against this and the abuse of Black women by this regime, we are all complicit.

      • Blithe says:

Years ago, John Roberts spoke about being concerned about his “legacy”. I’m guessing that this current legacy is one that he’s fine with. As a child, I remember learning the Woodrow Wilson re-segregated the federal government and intensified racial segregation throughout the Federal City of Washington DC. I wondered how such a thing could happen. Now we’re experiencing it again in real time. I applaud this site for drawing attention to the current administration’s efforts to distract us while it turns back the clock on “justice for all” .

@Brassy Rebel, we do need to speak up and to let our actions support our ideals and our goals — even as we acknowledge that the prices that will be paid for activism will single out some of us for extra aggression. What happened in Tennessee is shameful. It’s also not anything new. It was heartening to see the protests — including Rep. Justin Jones publicly burning a confederate flag: Pushing back by any means necessary.

      • Brassy Rebel says:

And Justin Pearson called that redneck trooper “Boy!” right in his face. The two Justins show the courage we need. 🤬

      • Is that so? says:

This is the time for all those Southerner who like to proclaim they are NOT raycist, that their grandpappy never own slaves, that their family came over in 1870, and that they would have voted for Obama à 3rd time to vote for progressive Black, progressive, Brown, progressive white legislators, not just based on their campaign rhetoric but passed behavior.

Some be wearing #sheepclothing. Some of theses candidates are using progressive rhetoric like #Jacobusinglambskin.

  12. Nancy says:

In my area the average is $4.99 a gallon. I am fortunate to get it at $4.52 with my BJ’s membership but even that price is crazy. I’ve decided to put off trading in my small compact car for a small SUV until the prices go down. This administration continues to screw everyone except themselves and their billionaire buddies.

  13. Barbara says:

I could never be a reporter. I’d be the first one to stand up and ask who crapped their pants.

    • Hypocrisy says:

You would be applauded by the people if you did that on camera 🎥👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

  14. QuiteContrary says:

Rachel Scott is one of the few journalists even willing to ask him tough questions. The White House press corps is its own f*cking disgrace and part of the reason we’re in this mess. Because too many reporters sanewash this decrepit monster.

    • Traveller says:

It seems only the women have the courage to ask anything that is relevant at all.
You’re absolutely right, the sanewashing and cowardice from these male reporters is despicable.

  15. Wednesday Addams says:

Rachel Scott is one of the few journalists who I’ve heard stand up to tRump. She has all my respect.

  16. Jane says:

The correct thing is that it’s not okay to talk to anyone that way. That’s what needs to be said.

  17. Jen says:

What they need to do when he attacks a fellow reporter like that is to either up and leave en masse, or ask him nothing but questions about why he attacks women like that. They are enabling him if they don’t stop and call him on that behavior.

  18. jferber says:

So very presidential of him! Misogyny intact. Crude bastard.

  19. KC2 says:

Even Mullin looked uncomfortable. I wish just one reporter, just one, would respond to how UN-presidential these responses are. What a filthy pig.

    • kirk says:

Well, the Daily Beast said it had “reached out to the White House, the Department of Homeland Security and the Department of the Interior about what Trump said, in light of online speculation that he appeared to use the word “b—h” in reference to Scott.” (Vaillancourt, 5/8/26).

  20. Lil Soleil says:

All women and POC are on their own. This is just further confirmation. Every time he speaks like this, it’s further normalized. We are all outraged, then, rinse, repeat on an almost daily basis. Crickets from white men. They don’t really care all that much. We will never be able to unsee any of this.

  21. BeanieBean says:

OK, here’s my thinking. The Heritage Foundation MAGA overlords are encouraging the demented trump to return to his developer days, suggesting ‘fixes’ and other ‘improvements’ to the landscape of DC to get him out of the way & occupied while they themselves systematically dismantle our democracy & drain the Treasury for their own power & wealth.

And yes, why oh why do the other reporters never, ever step in when trump demeans & belittles their colleagues, particularly their female colleagues? Cowards, all.

  22. Veronica S. says:

Really no surprise men like him constantly fail up, isn’t it? Nobody pushes back on anything they say, they’re never held accountable, nobody gives them tough questions because they know now to expect real answers. Had the media done any real reporting on him at any point in the last ten years, we may not be here.

  23. The real queen says:

He hates women especially smart and black

  24. Margaret84 says:

I can’t take this sh** show anymore. Every freakin’ day🤬They should ask him what’s happening to his nose….it’s changing color and has huge craters.

  25. Is that so says:

He is back in the 1850s, full on Antebellum.

I’m sure we have all noticed that this dehumanization is most frequently directed at women and Black and Brown folks.

    Most frequently, but not exclusively.
