It’s been nearly a week since Sandra Bullock shocked us with her adoption and divorce news after her husband’s infidelity scandal. The question is – did Bullock’s People cover outsell the Brangelina twins? According to an industry insider quoted in Popeater, Louis and Sandra didn’t outsell Knox and Vivienne quite yet, but Sandra’s issue is likely to come out ahead. This was a real coup for People, and given how heavy handed their lawyers have been I’m wondering how much they paid Sandra for the interview and photos and if she donated the money. It must have been at least seven figures.

It’s no surprise that PEOPLE magazine’s shocking Sandra Bullock baby cover was a huge seller, but it hasn’t yet replaced the biggest-selling baby exclusive ever. That would be PEOPLE’s 2008 exclusive photos of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s newborn twins, Knox Leon and Vivienne.
“Sandra’s cover has been on newsstands for a week and it has already sold over 2.7 million copies,” a magazine insider told me, citing early sales estimates for the issue. “That’s only 100,000 less than the 2.8 million copies the magazine sold when Angelina’s twins graced the cover — and a half-million more copies than the June 2006 issue with exclusive baby pictures of Brad and Angelina’s first daughter, Shiloh, which moved 2.2 million newsstand copies.”
So although it looks as if Sandra’s baby will ultimately outsell Angie’s twins, she still has a long way to go be beat the top two seller’s in the magazine’s 35-year history: the Sept. 11 issue (4.1 million copies) and the issue covering Princess Diana’s death (3 million).

So tragedy outsells baby covers and Sandra’s story had a little of each with the benefit of a bitter sweet happy ending. It was truly a moving interview and as I mentioned it brought me to tears. (I wasn’t as touched by it later in the day when People’s lawyers told us to remove even the cover of the magazine, but that’s their right and it’s understandable. Again, it makes me wonder what kind of coin they dropped to secure that high selling issue.)
Sandra’s old friend George Lopez is likely to secure the first live interview with her when his show returns in the fall. Lopez told People Magazine that he’s a “proud uncle” to little Louis and added that Sandra and her baby are doing well. “Sandra is a loving, giving person, and Louis could not be in a better home and she could not be happier.” We’re all wishing the best for Sandra and her adorable new arrival.
Sandra may have something else in common with Brad and Angelina – according to reports Sandra is moving to New Orleans with Louis. There have been moving vans spotted outside the mansion she purchased there last September. A source tells Fox411 “Sandra wants to be a part of life in New Orleans and she believes it will be great for Louis to grow up there.” [via Radar] She said in People that she was looking forward to taking a walk with Louis and feeling the sun on her face. Maybe she can do that in her new city with minimal interference from the paparazzi.
Unlike the Brange twin cover, I bought this issue with Sandra and baby Louis. They are adorable.

If she really raises the kid in N.O. (that means staying there after the initial thrill wears off) I’ll give her credit for consistency.

I’ve heard that Pitt does go there from time to time to check on the whole MIR thing, but when was the last time they actually LIVED there, as a family? It doesn’t really seem like they “live” anywhere…just in whichever city it is they’re filming.

I thought she said in the People i/v that she planned to spent ‘part of the year’ in New Orleans. She wanted Louis to know his city inside and out. What a great life to have… New Orleans for part the of year, Austin for some and LA for some…. nice!

This issue of People was also the annual “Most Beautiful People” issue, which can only add to its appeal. Thank God we were spared another cover photo of Julia Roberts!
ATTN CELEBS if you get cheated on by your hubby adopt a minority baby, have a press agent help you with the interview and sell pics to People Magazine.
I can’t believe that people are actually making a big deal that Sandra’s cover sold more and truely care about the stats. Of course it was a huge seller. This was Sandra’s first interview and had the huge surprise of the adoption. I never buy People but bought this one for the story. Why buy the twins cover since it’s just baby pictures and a interview that’s basically “we’re happy and tired”.

I’m not surprised the issues are selling nearly as well. Sandra’s story not only had compassionate value, but the wow of surprise.
I’m wondering if James behavior didn’t cause immediate concern in jeopardizing the adoption.
My bet’s on her adopting a second baby or child in the next two years.
And I don’t believe James will be in this baby’s life but for an occasional visit. His risky behavior placed his entire family in jeopardy.
I keep meaning to pick up a copy of this but haven’t done so yet.
Before this, I hadn’t realized how involved Sandra was in NO. I knew she donated after Katrina, but apparently she’s been very involved with a school there as well, among other things. She seems committed to helping, and I like that.
I’ll be curious to see how much time she’ll actually spend there though. I remember the JPs talking about how they wanted to be part of the community, and for their kids to go to school there, but they haven’t really followed through with that beyond Pitt’s project. I imagine Sandra being there more, but it will be tough with the other kids in LA, working, and her home in Austin.
I wonder how mad Julia was that her most beautiful cover got bumped to a small corner photo??? 😉
I like both women, will not give into chosing which one has the most gorgeous child. I’m sure SB wins by Americans standards by chosing a child from here and because she a great woman. Angelina is a wonderful woman also and I applaud her adopting from war torn impoverished countries to give these children a life that they would never have. Her children have a good chance at survival and that’s the most important.

Yes your right it was the WOW OF SURPRISE that caught everyone off guard. With JJ cheating with a bunch of gutter scum and not hearing about how is SB coping was on everyones mind including mine. I felt horrible for her but when the story broke I was so happy for her.

I’m really happy that the money made off the JP children went to charity, that’s their biggest accomplishment giving back. Tabs would have made a huge profit anyhow for themselves and would have put their family in danger with papz trying to capture a picture. So many other people but I guess since the JP rule the world and all they are the biggest target to outlast, outplay and outwit, bwahaha.
Sandra has homes in Austin, Los Angeles,Wyoming and NOLA. Brad and Angie have homes in Los Angeles, NOLA and France.Austin is Sandra’s home base. Los Angeles is Brad and Angie’s home base. When they finish a movie they return to LA.Since NOLA is close to Austin Sandra can spend a lot of time there. As far as I know she has no filming projects scheduled right now.Hopefully she can fly stepkids in on their school breaks.

The difference?
Sandra Bullock didn’t expect or get 14 million dollars plus for her pictures with her son..under the guise of it going to charity. So far, the majority of that 14 million is still sitting in the J-P foundation. I guess charity really does begin at home.
Tell me, which other actor has committed to building the lower ninth yard yes that would be Brad Pitt. So don’t knock him and Angelina. Recognize both Sandra and the Jolie-Pitt are doing good things in NOLA and it just shows their similarities and not differences.
YeaRight – have they said how much they paid for Sandra’s exclusive? I haven’t seen anything about it yet, and maybe it wasn’t quite that high, but I’m guessing it was a pretty penny. If they haven’t already publicized it, we may never know how much or where it went.
As for the JP baby pic money – it does seem slow moving out of their foundation. Maybe there are donations going out that aren’t publicized, or maybe there’s a long term plan that only releases so much every year? Or maybe they just like hanging on to it, I don’t know.

Sandra Bullock got plenty of money for those pictures and story, trust. No way would she do it out of the goodness of her heart and she shouldn’t have to. “People” is making tons of money from that cover, why shouldn’t Sandra get a piece of the pie? Well, the Haiti tragedy just happen in January and everybody knew right away that Sandy had given $1.5M . . . about the same time that everybody knew Angelina had given $1M to DWoB. Funny, that!! And, just to set the record straight, it is the United Nations who takes the photos and reports that Angelina has gone to yet another country in support of the refugees or helpless people there, not Angelina (who, by the way, does not have a publicist).
Both of these women give their time and money to causes that need their time and money and we find out about it. There is nothing wrong with that. There is no competition here. Only more crap to try to tear down Angelina. Won’t work, but keep on trying, if that’s what you want to spend you time doing!!
Nobody knows how much they got for the photos. Price is all rumor. I’ve heard everything from $10-$20 million. As mentioned charities/foundations don’t spend everything at once. Brad and Angelina don’t announce most donations. The tabloids do because it’s public record. Of course Angelina’s UN trips are covered because that’s her job as a spokesperson.

HA!! I seriously doubt Angelina cares if Sandy Bullock’s cover sells more copies than her cover!! Both women got money for their cover and the amount didn’t depend on how many copies were sold. Besides, the “competition” is for bestselling BABY cover. The bestseller overall is the 9/11 cover. Nobody will break that record.
Besides, as they said over at “Gawker” . . . it only took a scandal, a divorce, a dozen slutty women and a pretty black child to get Sandy on the cover of “People.” Angelina only had to give birth to twins!!

Its ridiculous to turn this into a competition and as much as I like Sandy as an actress, of course she will have been paid for her story and pics. People are naive and stupid to think otherwise.
I used to like Brad. I used to like Angelina. But, somewhere along the line, it changed. Maybe it’s because I don’t believe in cheating… for having children out of wedlock (I know, but I am old fashioned that way)… for letting yourself go to waste – Brad’s recently scruffy whogivesashit sloppiness and Ang’s sanctimoneous self rightousness.
Sandra, on the otherhand, is MUCH more entertaining, even in those stupid Speed movies, and just seems “real” to me. Plus, she isn’t shoved down your throat every f**in day in some rag mag or another. She just appears to be workin for a livin, just like all us regular folk.

Brangelina haters are scarier. BTW the JP Twins were featured on Hello and several international covers ie Hola. Sandys’ cover is for US only. FYI I bought both issues. I’m a fan of both. BTW the charities that received the money I posted yesterday released the press statements . Google their websites they list the contributors to their organizations.
