Brittany Murphy’s husband Simon Monjack found dead

FILE. Brittany Murphy's husband Simon Monjack found dead
In a tragic turn of events, Simon Monjack, the 40 year-old widower of recently-deceased actress Brittany Murphy, has been found dead at home. Brittany passed on December, 20, 2009 of pneumonia and possible side effects from a combination of legal drugs. She was just 32. Monjack was heartbroken after Brittany’s death and gave many interviews defending himself from criticism about his character and discussing how close and Brittany were.

Monjack said he didn’t depend on Brittany for income, as many speculated. He claimed to be independently wealthy from both derivatives trading and an early friendship with the artist Damien Hirst, from whom he bought over 100 pieces of art early in his career. Monjack told Radar Online that each piece is worth around $2 million dollars in today’s market.

Monjack was found unconscious in bed Sunday night by Brittany’s mother, who called 911. It sounds like he was pronounced dead at the scene. He was in the master bedroom, which was attached to the bathroom in which Brittany died.

Five months after the sudden and shocking death of his beloved wife Brittany Murphy, Simon Monjack has died.

Monjack died in the house he shared with Brittany and her mother Sharon, who called 911 after finding him unconscious Sunday night, RadarOnlne.com has learned.

Paramedics responded but it was too late. An investigation is now underway.

Sgt. Louie Lozano of the Los Angeles Police Department told RadarOnline.com on Monday at approximately 1:30 am PDT: “The preliminary cause of death for Mr. Monjack seems to be natural causes.

“No weapons were found at the scene. Detectives are still on the scene.

“At 9:46 pm a 911 call for a medical emergency was put out from the Rising Glen Road address. The Fire department responded and they pronounced Mr. Monjack dead. I do not know if they tried to revive him yet. The body is still at the home and will be taken by the coroner’s office for an autopsy.”

Los Angeles County Assistant Chief Coroner Ed Winter said that Monjack was found in the master bedroom by Sharon. No illegal drugs were found in the house. Prescription drugs were present in the home.

A van from the coroner’s office arrived at Monjack’s Hollywood Hills house shortly after 1:15 am PDT Monday.

Brittany Murphy’s Husband Says Warner Brothers “Killed Her”

The entrepreneur was a controversial figure to many but seen as a warm and loving person by those close to him. He was 40 years old.

His final interview was given to RadarOnline.com just days ago and the subject was Brittany. He recently erected a gravestone and told RadarOnline.com during that final interview: “I think it’s time for everybody to realize that Brittany was just an incredibly happy, precious angel that lives on through her fans and in our hearts.”

Monjack never recovered from the death of his wife, who also spent her final minutes in their home. She died December 20, 2009 from natural causes after being ill with the flu.

[From Radar Online]

In one of his last interviews, which was posted on Radar Online on March 27, Monjack revealed that he had an extensive security system installed in the 8,000 square foot Hollywood Hills home he once shared with Brittany. He had over 56 cameras throughout the home and said that all footage was backed up to an external server. If there was any foul play or any other people in the home, police will soon be able to find out. Sadly, it looks like Monjack died alone and that it may have been an accident, just like the death of his late wife Brittany. Some people will say that they’re together again now.

Very sad. Really makes you wonder about the ‘dream lives’ of the rich and famous…

  2. Ruby Red Lips says:

So sad that they both have gone, tragic waste of life

  3. popcorny says:

    Poor guy.
Loses his wife, whom he adored.
Suffered unimaginably -and even more so by so many being doubtful, thoughtless, careless and cruel (nevermind just “unsympathetic”).
Now, merely months later, he’s lost his life.
    Incredibly heartbreaking.

  4. MeMyself says:

    Brit’s mother found him?

I hope that poor woman has some kind of good support system becuase to relive that again would do me in.

  5. Ophelia says:

Older couples, like elderly, usually die within a year or so of each other. That could just be because they’re old already, but I think when people love each other to this immense extent, the remaining partner just gives up and in turn, so does their body. I can’t imagine living very long if something ever happened to my husband. I’m an atheist, so I don’t think we’ll all meet again in heaven, but I like to imagine that anyway, and I’ll imagine that for them. I feel so bad for Brittany Murphy’s mom.

  6. WTF?!? says:

I feel worst for her mother. It seemed she and Monjack were leaning on each other for support to get them through, and now she’s alone.
    Poor dear.

  7. Jillian says:

Oh my god. That poor woman.

  8. Hum says:

My prayers go out to the family. I was reading the comments over @ tmz and they are despicable!

  9. Maritza says:

I agree, she needs a support system. That poor woman needs to get out of that house, she’ll be haunted by the memories of her daughter and son in-law.

  10. Ethel says:

I feel sorry for the Mother. God she must be a mess after finding TWO people dead in a matter of months. Move out of that house. Also can’t wait to see what the toxicology reports have to say about his drug intake.

  11. jc126 says:

The tragedy is that Brittany Murphy ever met this guy. How many people did he owe money to again?

  12. Dana M says:

Doesnt anybody else find this strange?? Both
husband And wife dead…natural causes… Mmmmm. I smell something fishy.

  13. ViktoryGin says:

    First thought: Damn…..tragic.

Second thought: Is it evil for me to think that maybe this guy faked his death?

    Just pondering…

  14. GrnMtGirl says:

    Strange Situation.

I hope her Mom has a support system – Poor woman

  15. Tazina says:

He looks considerably overweight and out of shape. He had a slight heart attack a week after Britany’s death…his mother-in-law said he had “health issues” but that he would have to say what they were. Whatever people say about him, I think Simon and Brittany loved each other. It’s just sad to see two people gone so young and so tragically.

  16. mollination says:

No one can say they didn’t look truly, madly in love. You know, it’s kind of like when an artist is worth more post-mortem – Simon Monjack can only be vindicated of all the accusations of “greed” and “phony-ness” after his death.

I hope they’re together again, and I hope Brittany’s mother moves far far away with some people she loves and trust.

  17. judyjudy says:

    This is very sad.

Is anyone else shocked to learn that he was only 40? I always thought he was much older.

  18. ogechi says:

Am really devastated right now (tears welling up). May his faithful soul rest in peace.

  19. mhjmc says:

Very sad .. I truly hope they both are at peace.

  20. Visitor says:

    So Sad

  21. TaylorB says:

That poor woman finds her daughter and the son in law whom she adored (her words) dead within months, how horribly sad for her.

  22. Feebee says:

wow, spooky! I hope Brittany’s mum isn’t a paranoid type. I hope she has some friends around to help her, poor lady.

  23. Cinderella says:

He looked like a heart attack waiting to happen.

I hope Sharon can get away from Hollywood ASAP.

  24. Alarmjaguar says:

I’d definitely get out of the house, or at least have it tested for weird chemicals.

  25. Mistral says:

    Hmm…Sad.

  26. bellaluna says:

Sad. But sometimes when a spouse dies, the other follows soon after. Especially if they’ve been married long or were exceptionally close.

  27. denise says:

Something in the milk aint clean with this story.

  28. denise says:

I just noticed, you mean to tell me he was only 39 years old! Geez he looks much older than that.

  29. Dingles says:

    Kids, don’t do drugs.

  30. Stephy85 says:

@ Ophelia…I agree. People CAN die of a broken heart…Their bodies just quit on them.
I think this is most definitely tragic for his family and friends, etc, but they ARE together again…It’s kinda tragic and beautiful at the same time…

  31. Leek says:

    I hope he finds peace.

  32. gg says:

Poor mom. I have my suspicions about him, but they seemed to be very much in love in photos. I feel they were both very tortured souls.

  33. bros says:

other sites are reporting accidental overdose.

  34. MissyA says:

To absolutely honest – I don’t know if I could live if something tragic happened to my love. I actually had a massive panic attack the other day just thinking about it.

I hope if there is an afterlife, they share it together.

    Poor mom.

  35. fizXgirl314 says:

What a tragic story. I’ve always defended this guy because I could tell he was genuine. There’s something called dying of a broken heart… perhaps he didn’t want to go on without her. Truly, very sad 🙁

  36. original kate says:

i saw him interviewed after brittany’s death, and the way he talked to brittany’s mother, called her “baby” etc. just creeped me out. who knows what went on? i think this whole family was really unhealthy.

  37. gg says:

I agree with original kate – Anybody see the video he released of their bathroom after she died? There were stacks upon stacks of hoarded products covering up every bit of surface, I mean there must have been at least 150 bottles of things crammed into this tiny room. It made no sense, other than it showed somebody who was extremely obsessive/compulsive and had other disorders.

I had to question over and over again — why on earth would he release such a video?? Did he want everybody to know she had psychological problems and was a hoarder? Or did he set it up to look that way? It was just very, very inappropriate for him to do, and I can’t think of a single good, innocent reason why he would do that other than to deflect from himself. There was some selfish motive in there.

  38. Catherine says:

There is a news update from his spokesperson that he was due for a heart bypass surgery. Very sad.

  39. SolitaryAngel says:

Maybe it’s just my cop instincts but I’d look really hard at the mother for this….

  40. Paula says:

The sudden death of a very overweight man with heart problems is not suspicious. Two male relatives built like Simon died of heart attacks in their early 40s. Feel very sorry for Brittany’s mother, who had to experience directly the deaths of two loved ones in one year.

  41. Ruffian9 says:

Ok, I’ll be the nasty bitch here. As denise stated 11:33am: Something in the milk aint clean with this story.

Dude dying of a broken heart; I just don’t buy it. Guy milked his wife’s death HARD, and the relationship with his mother in law seemed downright creepy. Guy REEKED of smarm.

Just call me a heartless bitch, but this is more weird than sad.

  42. Camille says:

    Well, didn’t see that coming.

  43. GatsbyGal says:

Sad sack probably just offed himself because he realized two things:

    1) The only chick who would’ve slept with him without demanding payment first is dead.

    2) No one will ever trust his bullshit again now that everyone knows he’s a con man, so his scamming days are over and he has no other talents.

  44. jc126 says:

36, 37, 43 – you’re posters after my own heart. I had forgotten about that CREEPY video, and don’t forget Monjack’s ridiculous threats about “wrongful death suits” that never materialized. Sleazebag.

  45. My2Cents says:

So sad. You can see in every pic that they were totally in love.
So what if he was a bit pudgy and not cookie cuter cute. He loved her and she loved him. You can’t take that away from them.

  46. Dee Vine says:

“No illegal drugs were found in the house. Prescription drugs were present in the home.”

We should all be reminded that drugs kill, so do prescription drugs, when misused.

  47. Aspen says:

I’m with Solitary Angel. I mean, dear God, I feel bad for this woman. She lost her daughter and son-in-law so close together, and I don’t wish that kind of grief on anyone. I was devastated when Brittany Murphy died. I adored her and watched everything she did just because she was in it.

That said, maybe I’ve watched too much crime TV, but something about this isn’t right and the mother was the only constant in both deaths. I really, REALLY hope I’m just being silly about this, but I hope the cops take a hard look at the mother.

  48. Jag says:

He was supposed to be getting a heart bypass operation, but had postponed it until this fall. Seems like his doctors would’ve insisted that he go ahead and have it, considering he had already had one small heart attack. They’re saying it looks like he died of a massive heart attack, but of course that’s unconfirmed until the autopsy is published.

  49. Sophia says:

I just can’t wrap my head around the re-intensified devastation poor Sharon must be going through. The wounds of Brittany’s death are no doubt still incredibly fresh, and now she has to deal with the grief of losing Simon as well? May she find strength in something, because that is an awful, awful amount of heartbreak to have to deal with.
