MTV Movie Awards highlights: Tom Cruise, Sandra Bullock & Robert Pattinson

Since the Twihards dominated the MTV Movie Awards once again, going through the list of winners is rather moot. Kristen Stewart deigned to roll her eyes through her victory in Best Kiss (with Robert Pattinson) and Best Female Performance. Pattinson won Best Male Performance and something else I didn’t catch. And they won Best Film, and Peter Facinelli cussed his ass off and the censors didn’t catch it in time, so my ears were assaulted (I’m clutching my pearls as I type) with multiple F-bombs. It would probably be easier to list the non-Twilight people who won: Tom Fenton (from the Harry Potter films), Sandra Bullock (the “Generation” Award), Amanda Seyfried (who won for Jennifer’s Body), Ken Jeong (from The Hangover, who got emotional about his wife’s breast cancer) and Anna Kendrick (who is in the Twilight films, but won for Up In The Air). Anyway, let’s do some highlights:

* For me, the absolute best part was seeing Tom Cruise in character as Len Grossman, dancing his motherf-cking ass off with Jennifer Lopez. Did anyone really think Tom could keep up so well? I have to admit something sketchy – I’m attracted to Tom Cruise as Len Grossman. I would hit that. And I could watch Jennifer Lopez spanking Tom Cruise all f-cking day. I like them both so much when they’re Fly Girls.

*Sandra Bullock’s acceptance speech for the Generation Award. She was pithy and funny, and lacking in self-pity. I love her for that. She did a shout-out to the Gulf Coast, and it didn’t feel cheap. She was letting everyone know it was cool to move on. She’s beautiful, and a really amazing woman.

*Pattinson and Stewart. Okay, I know I called off the fatwa and everything, but she and her rolled eyes were plucking my last nerve. I get it, she’s an “actress”. I understand that she’s “uncomfortable” with the attention. But she needs to sack up, stop rolling her eyes, stop biting her lip, and just act like a f-cking professional. Like Pattinson. Pattinson is so lovely, he really is. Just gracious and funny and sweet, even when Kristen is acting like a little diva bitch. I was so glad when he just grabbed her and kissed her for their “Best Kiss” win. Here you go:

*Russell Brand – I know he’s not everyone’s favorite, but he was cracking me up last night. I did love when he and Jonah Hill made out. And Russell and Katy Perry looked really cute together. Speaking of Katy, that girl can barely sing, can’t dance for sh-t, but my goodness she has spectacular breasts, doesn’t she? And she puts them out there a lot.

*Lindsay Lohan was in the audience. She didn’t present anything, and she wasn’t up for anything. And it took me a good 40 minutes and at least three cutaways before I recognized her. I thought she was someone’s 40-something hooker escort (cough Michael Bay cough).

*Christina Aguilera’s Sparkle-Vadge! She had a heart-shaped LED-light on her vadge (on her costume), and it was kind of awesome. Unfortunately, Getty doesn’t have any photos of the vadge all lit up like Christmas morning.

That’s all I’ve got. For a two-hour show, they kept up the pace and there were several funny parts. I didn’t think the host, Aziz Ansari was solid but not amazing. To be fair, MTV didn’t really give him enough rope to hang himself, and his hosting duties were pretty much limited to his opening monologue (which made me smile but not laugh), and several pre-taped bits which were kind of funny. All in all, I didn’t feel like I wasted two hours of my life, but I’m old enough to remember when these MTV shows were crazy important. Oh well.

Here are some extra photos for the Twihards, amd anyone who loves Len Grossman:

I agree Dorothy. That dance was very funny.

Tom Cruise is so likable when he plays comedy, he should do more stuff like that. I love when Sandra said “Lets go back to normal everybody!” She is so cool.

  5. CelLeb says:

These Twilight kids can’t fake it on camera nor off. If they want us to believe this isn’t just studio manifactured showmance then get them an acting coach and teach them how to pretend as if they like each other .
They both look as if the other one has a deadly desease and are afraid to go anywhere near each other.

  6. Rachel says:

That whole Best Kiss acceptance thing was ridiculous and very awkward. Unless you can top the year Rachel McAdams & Ryan Gosling won (so hot), don’t even bother doing a bit, just say thanks and get off the stage.

Kristen’s awkwardness was driving me crazy watching it.

Isn’t the purpose of actors to entertain us and make us like watching them?
Instead I feel secondhand embarrassment and discomfort watching Stewart.

Tom Cruise was funny and surprisingly still agile with his moves. He was super funny as Lens Grossman.

    K-Stew irritates me.

    R-Patz irritates me more.

Sandra Bullock damn classy lady. LOVE HER.

^agreed. Give me the Glee kids over the Twilighters ANY day! They are superior to them both in looks and talent.

  12. Vee says:

    Tom Cruise was fantastic.
About the Twilight kids, they were darling last night. Rob was giddy and adorable and to be honest, Kristen Stewart did very well, it was a great night for her, she smiled a ton.
The kiss skit was funny! It was awkward on purpose, they were playing that up.
    It was an entertaining show.
Sandra Bullock is one class act!

Is it bad I secretly hoped Sparkles brought that popcorn statue down on her head knocking some personality (other than stupid annoying teenager) in to her?

    Oh God yes!
I so wish he had dropped that popcorn on her head so we wouldn’t have to suffer through another eyerolling bitchy “Kristen Stewart-I’m too cool for this shit” fest.

  16. Red says:

    Vee: Are you blind?
Those two are always uncomfortable and lack any chemistry around each other. Everything around them is staged.
How can anyone who has ever been in love buy their act as real and endearing?
But I give credit to their PR for convincing people(brainless Twihards) that the lack of romantic gestures and sheer discomfort they always feel when together is real.

  18. Pencil says:

@Leanne: probably another 3 more years (yukk) since the last book is split in two films..
Too bad, after that shit is over I can watch this kind of awardshows again without secondhand embarrassment about that bunch of people called twihearts (again yukk)

And seriously Vee: that kiss-skitt wasn’t funny or cute AT ALL. They did the same thing last year and even then it wasn’t funny or cute. Oh and btw: awkward is their middle name, that wasn’t acting

  19. Red says:

Vee: Yes it does look staged. Maybe you should look at this photo of Stewart with her PR woman. Now this is chemistry.

She only really seem to have any interest in women.

  21. Patty says:

Sandra Bullock is the only actress and celebrity lately that deserves to be called class act.
She is thankful for her career.
    She doesn’t complain.
    She isn’t whining.

And she shows all those ungreatful HW spoiled young actors and actresses how it’s done right. They all take themselves too serious.

  25. Brandy Mc says:

Tom Cruise got skills! I was totally blown away by his moves last night and I am not a big fan of his. His dance performace was the best part of the whole shoe. Whoever the host was, was totally annoying. Sandy was fantastic and I loved how Scarlett seemed “in love” like a little school girl with her. Kristen is a little twit. Tom Cruise made the whole show. That part was awesome!

  26. Angel says:

Do you just want to see how many people you can get to hate this girl? I didn’t see her roll her eyes once.

Sandra Bullock is so amazing. The next time someone tells me I remind them of her (which happens often) I am going to make out with them I swear.

Best highlight for me: BETTY WHITE!

  27. Gwen says:

Tom Cruise was kind of awesome there – and he must be in pretty good shape to keep up with JLo like that!

So tired of the Twilight crap. Rob seems like a good sport but I can’t wait until we don’t have to see KStew anymore. She’s actually starting to remind me of Bella (selfish, whiny) and that is not a compliment!

  32. gg says:

I would kill for Sandra’s body, wit and class. How incredibly perfect did she look last night, wow! No wonder Jesse can’t let her go. He should kick himself into eternity for what he did. I’d also kill for Katie’s body, but I wouldn’t touch Brand with a disinfected bargepole.

I think Kristin Stewart looked really cute for a change. Her hair and her dress didn’t look awkward, surprise!

Didn’t anybody notice that Cruise was only in skits with other $cifi-tologists?? Sorry, but he’s still a controlling weirdo, until he quits being L. Ron Jr., and Misgavidge’s bitch. It’s just image spin, folks, move along.

So here’s the thing: do we remember the MTV Awards as being much more entertaining and important because back then, we were the target audience?

Because as a 31 year old, I found most of the night to be completely repetitive and boring…and since I’m not exactly the target demographic, I wonder if it is the show that has declined, or if I’ve just aged out of finding the show relevant.

  35. Elasticgirl says:

@ Carrie. It’s getting old indeed (and I’m only 19, now I feel old :p). I liked the dance with Tom Cruise tho and Sandra of coure, the rest of the show, couldn’t care less.
They should have called it Twifest, because that’s what it was.

Kristen’s awkwardness at the podium when she won her award for best Female Performance or whatever had me rolling on the floor. She clearly had no idea what to say and was thanking random people before she finally ran off stage. When the camera cut away to Robert in the audience, it looked like he was clearly enjoying his girlfriend making a fool of herself haha!

The kiss award was better than last year’s (they also won last year) and I think that was before they started dating. I remember Kristen and Robert getting ready to kiss and then Kristen grabbed the award and said into the mike “Thanks everyone!” and ran off the stage with Rob looking crushed. At least Rob was sort of able to plant one on her before she faked another bumping into him. He looked like he was clearly enjoying himself up there. He seriously needs to date someone as lovely as himself. Drop Kristen RPattz!

  46. freckles says:

I agree with a lot of people above… Robert’s won me over, but Kristen gets on my last nerve. She’s so awkward and seems to have no redeeming qualities at all. That pic of her at the mic with Rob behind her, holding the award behind his head, makes me laugh so hard. It just looks like he’s dying to clock her with it… I wish he would.

#44… after that super awkward acceptance, what makes you think they’d have anything even resembling hot sex after the show?? They are not on the same wavelength at all.. I used to believe they were together but I wouldn’t be surprised if it really was all just for publicity. They just really don’t have chemistry.

I liked the best kiss. It was funny when Rob grabbed and planted it. LOL. They’re my absolute favourite celebrity couple right now. They are so down to earth and genuine and Kristen is painfully awkward but Rob’s wicked charm cancels that out so it’s all good. :D
