Kate Gosselin ‘trying to make as much money as she can while people still care’

38294, NEW YORK, NEW YORK - Thursday March 4 2010. Kate Gosselin checks out of her NYC hotel in Midtown. The reality star and mother of eight is one of the 11 celebrities who will take to the dance floor for the ABC competition's tenth season which kicks off this month on March 22 on ABC, and from March 26 on Watch in the UK. This week’s National Enquirer has a breakdown of Kate Gosselin’s expenses as well as an explanation for why we continue to see her bitchface all over the place despite the fact that the public is actively working to ignore her. Kate is allegedly afraid she’ll go broke, and is trying to get paid now when she has a chance to cash in. I can’t blame her for that I guess and it’s pretty obvious that Jon isn’t going to provide for her. Does she have to have a full time bodyguard and a house full of staff to boss around, though? I guess we know the answer to that.

The National Enquirer has a close relationship with Radar Online, which gets a lot of exclusives from Kate. (And runs a lot of photos of her and glowing stories about her.) I bet they have this information on good authority.

Kate Gosselin is terrified that she will go broke!

The 35-year-old mother of eight is frantic with worry that she won’t be able to support her huge brood, said a close friend.

“Kate says she cant count on her ex-husband Jon because he’s broke too! She’s freaking out that he’s not going to be able to make his child support payments.”

While Kate is signed for a series of “Kate Plus Eight” specials and “Twist of Kate” on the TLC network, she has huge expenses.

“Kate’s got mortgage payments of about $10,000 on her $1.3 million home in Wernersville, PA,” said the friend, and the kids are in private schools – that’s about $4,000 in tuition a year – times eight.

She also spends about $300,000 a year on nannies and bodyguards.

“On top of that, she’s got car payments, her private travel costs, and frequent trips to beauty and tanning salons,” said the friend.

Kate is also desperately trying to put away money for the kids’ college costs, which she expects will be massive.

She had hoped to get a financial boost with her recent book, “I Just Want You To Know…” but it tanked, reportedly selling less than 20,000 copies.

“Kate realizes that her fame is going to last only so long, and she’s trying to make as much money as she can while people still care about her.”

[From The National Enquirer, print edition, July 19, 2010]

$300,000 a year on staff alone? There are A-List celebrities with stalkers who don’t spend a quarter of that on staff. Kate could, I don’t know, get rid of that bodyguard she either lusts after or is already sleeping with (depending on which reports you believe). She could downsize her house to something more affordable or get rid of her pricey hair extensions. Maybe she could cut down on orange spray tans and put the kids in public school. Her only option isn’t a media career, but she’s tasted the good life now and there’s no going back. Unfortunately that means she’ll be around for as long as the public can tolerate her. (For many of us, that point has already passed.)

In related news proving the point that we’ve reached Gosselin saturation, Jon is considering writing some kind of book but doesn’t have a deal yet, Kate tells Extra she doesn’t want to be alone but it looking for a take-charge guy for a change, and Jon spelled his new girlfriend’s name wrong in that giant tattoo he got on his back in Korean. It’s ok, she won’t last through the end of the summer anyway.

  1. Leticia says:

when they decided to have eight kids, did it not cross their minds that it would be expensive to provide for them all?

  2. jen says:

“and Jon spelled his new girlfriend’s name wrong in that giant tattoo he got on his back in Korean.”

    LMAO!

  3. Kevin says:

Way too late for that Kate.

  4. Danielle says:

Haven’t we heard like, a million times, that the state already provided college funds for her kids? (and wtf is up with that anyway)

  5. lucy2 says:

Leticia, at one point before they got the show, she wanted the state to pay for 24/7 help beyond the typical time limit. For the kids they paid for fertility treatments to have.
A smart person would have kept their lives and expenses modest, banked all the money she made, and gone on to live a very comfortable life. But she likes the fame, she just won’t admit it.

  6. Jeri says:

I think having 8 kids was their way of making a living, thought the endorsements & TV would take care of them.

  7. Leek says:

She is such an ass pipe! I hope she goes broke and has to live like the rest of us. She doesn’t deserve any credit because her life with eight kids is easier than most with two or three. She created this for herself and needs to eff off already. I strongly dislike her.

  8. Adrienne says:

Hate her, love that jacket from the header. Anyone know where that’s from?

  9. Julia Sugarbaker says:

Don’t get me started on Kate! She will
do anything for a buck and I will never
watch her. Her next gig is the Apprentice. OMG!!! I can see her telling Donald off like Omarosa. Kate thinks America owes her a living. She is right, though. Her time will soon be up because all people really care about are the cute kids and they are growing up. They will soon turn into the two older girls who cry, scream and
whine all the time. They are so boring and practically invisible. Kate, please go away. I hate her hair and all she does is carry around that stupid pink phone. Like someone is looking for her!!

  10. Jen says:

I don’t know about Kate, but when I freak out about money, the first thing I do is stop spending it on dumb stuff…

  11. TG says:

Private school tuition is only $4,000 a year? Maybe I should move there. Out here in DC you can’t even get daycare for less than 13K and private schools are around 30K, which is why my little one will be in public school.

Don’t feel sorry for her one bit. She is rotten and greedy to the core.

  12. EzE says:

Maybe she could hook up with Mel?

  13. Bonfire Beach says:

@ Danielle – I live in PA and there is no way the state provided college funds for those kids. I am thinking that TAP 529 accounts were set up for them. In that case the accounts are through the state and the parents make contributions. The state does NOT pay into those accounts.

@ TG – Yes, private school really is that inexpensive in PA. My 6 year old (same age as the sextuplets) goes to private school (not with them) and her tuition is approx. $3K a year. And it only just increased this year.

  14. Mia says:

Time to move out of the mansion. She is not my idea of a parenting role model.

Now that I know watching her would support an inexcusable lifestyle for someone mooching off of her own children’s childhoods, I’m glad to not be a part of it.

  15. L.B. says:

Boo fricken hoo! I do not pity this woman at all. She is so materialistic and self-absorbed, it is pathetic. Seventy percent of Americans are in debt and losing their homes because they are trying to live like Kate. The kids are following their bad habits. What are we teaching our children people?

  16. kellsbells says:

    Tick-tock….

  17. WednesdayGirl says:

She’s played this “pity me I have 8 kids and need to provide for them” card for far too long. This is why people are losing interest because all she does is bitch and moan, while leaving out the fact that she has staff helping her with the kids.

All the pictures you ever see of her now are of her alone or with her bodyguard. You never see pictures of Kate out and about with her kids, which has to say something.

If Kate wants to endear herself back to the public, maybe she should stop concentrating on herself and staying in the spotlight and start focusing on her kids.

The family that has 20 kids on TLC has no where near the deals that Jon and Kate made with the state nor are they media whores. The Gosselin kids are getting older and most people are going to lose interest in watching them, as no one wants to watch 8 teenagers being, well, bratty teenagers.

  18. filthycute says:

@Adrienne, it’s possibly a lululemon jacket. Looks like one judging by the neck and stringy tie things around the waist.

  19. KO says:

I’m waiting for the news that she’ll be the next Bachelorette – “Celebrity” Edition.

  20. TaylorB says:

TG. I am with ya, $4K a year for private school??? Holy cr*p that is cheap, granted when you multiply it by eight that is a heafty sum, but still… My brothers kids go to a private grade school and it is at least $10k a year per kid, and they have 4 little rug rats. The tuition will almost double when they enter high school.

  21. buckley says:

LOL @ a giant dragoon tattoo on that ugly doughy back..seriously?
and I ‘cant wait for bitchface Kate to disappear.

  22. Maritza says:

She’ll do what she has to do to keep her new lifestyle, can’t blame her for that. So long as people keep watching the networks will keep hiring her and she can’t afford to say no. People just love to hate her but they watch anyway. I wonder how Octomom does it with 14 kids to feed?

  23. GatsbyGal says:

Why does her sick-ass weave never look washed? It always looks ratty and stringy.

  24. ses says:

Haha, Jon didn’t just spell his gf’s name wrong, he got a dude’s name tattooed on his back! Doofus.

“Hyung-eun Min of the Korean Culture Service tells Life & Style Jon’s spelling of Ellen’s name is actually the Korean spelling of the male name Aaron or Aron.”

  25. CB Rawks says:

She is so harsh-looking. I’ll bet there’s not an ounce of warmth in her.
Those eyebrows are very 1980’s trailer park welfare mommy. She reminds me of Ellen Barkin in Drop Dead Gorgeous. Hey there’s an idea for you, Kate! Trailer Parks are very affordable!

  26. Team Bethenny says:

    I can’t stand her…but I can’t blame her either.

  27. Eileen Yover says:

Why the hell does she need a bodyguard? A-list celebrities walk around cities all day and they remain unharmed.
She isn’t worried about money for her kids, she worried about money for the lifestyle she’s grown accustomed to. Can’t stand this chick.

  28. original kate says:

what kind of 35 year old woman with 8 children carries a pink phone and chomps gum in public? ugh! it’s like her mental growth stopped at age 15.

  29. Marjalane says:

Sorry, no sympathy. I’d like my kids to go to private school and have a guaranteed college fund too, but alas….I have to budget. Why just yesterday I had to let the chauffeur and one of the nannies go! This broad is all kinds of twisted, and unfortunately she’s (trying) to raise her army up to expect nothing but the best, AND to do nothing to achieve it save for being “cute”. Blech.

  30. picopink says:

Seems like she’s desperate be a celebrity and live the lifestyle, that’s why she’s always whining about money and trying get on to as many shows as she can- she uses the kids needs as an excuse.

  31. Laurie says:

Aside from the kids college already paid for by the state of PA – WHY have these parents not set aside a good chunk of the J&K +8 money for the kids future anyway? Seems like Kate is living the high life off her kids. I hope she goes away soon and TLC drops her once the ratings fall. Maybe Steve will “protect” her for free?!!

  32. Wayne Coxcsmith says:

Kate will rock the apprentice, go girrrrl!

  33. DoMaJoReMc says:

Speaking of the “BODYGUARD”, notice he is no longer wearing his wedding ring? Hmmm! Also in an interview that KHATE gave once, she said she needs a bodyguard to insure nothing happens to her because, and I quote “I have 8 children that wouldn’t have their Mother if something happened to me.” Well, guess what KHATE, your kids don’t have their “mother” as it is, and your NANNIES are raising your kids now, so you don’t have that as an excuse anymore.

  34. Tiffany says:

You know just reading this I was thinking…man I miss that show on TLC…’Table for 12′. Whatever happened to that family, I liked them.

  35. For Sooth? says:

It’s what ever the market allows. The same market that pays actors a butt load of money for three months of work and a cut of the profits, or “ballers” millions upon millions of dollars to play children’s school yard games for our entertainment, or even Joe or Janice Blow that comes up with the new “IT” gadget or gimmick. Go for it Kate cause Jon ain’t makin’ money right now, but he is makin’ time with some other young chick.

  36. Gail says:

I’m still confused. I had no idea who this chick was and then all of a sudden she was everywhere. When I looked into it I didn’t find anything. All I got was, she had 8 kids. Yeah but what does she do. Well see, she had these 8 kids. Yeah? So? Will somebody please tell me why anybody is paying attention to her at all?

About 6 months later and here I am still seeing her everywhere and wondering why. She has no talent. She does nothing. Nobody likes her. I still don’t get it. Seriously? I mean seriously ya’ll? It really is because she had 8 kids? I mean, yanno… SERIOUSLY?

  37. Mary Jones says:

I can’t believe she is 35!!! She looks mid 40s at best. And she has the worst style of anyone. She looks like she try’s but still ends up looking like a 40 yr old who still shops at Forever 21.

  38. Jazz says:

As long as people still care? Oh, Kate, we never cared! She can always stop the trips to the beauty and tanning salons. No one needs constant trips to a beauty and tanning salon. Get rid of the nannies and I don’t know, raise the kids herself?

As for their college funds, what are the chances of them going to college? They’ll probably just drop out of high school and live off their infamy, just like their dear old parents!

  39. Amanda says:

For god’s sake, why doesn’t the woman start cutting out some of her expenses? She needs to read the writing on the wall. The gravy train known as reality show stardom lasts only so long. Hers has already slowed just about to a crawl (I know her new show debuted well, but has anyone watched it since? When is it on? I haven’t heard anything about it) If she has spent all the money she made on that show on things like staff, tanning, plastic surgery, travel, million dollar home, private school tuition (probably pretty unnecesary in a nice suburban area like where she lives in PA), then the woman is a bigger fool than I thought. She should have been living within her means and packing all that money away. Unfortunately, she probably has bad advisers. It wasn’t until this year when anyone forced the Gosselins to put ANY money away for the kids based on the work they are doing on the show (other than some college fund, that no one is sure exists in the first place plus some college fund the state of PA may or may not have created for them).

  40. dessertgirl says:

Last year it was reported that tuition at Lancaster Country Day for the 8 was $7500 a MONTH! The tuition rises as the kids progress into new grade tiers. This year the six will REPEAT KINDERGARTEN so that will be a small saving. The six who turned six in May will NOT join their peers in first grade this year. They were HELD BACK!

I expect that Jon’s payments will soon end. He was required to put his share of the divorce settlement in escrow to be paid out for the kids — now it’s KATE’S TURN TO PAY THE BILLS.

I can’t imagine a more isolated life than the G-8. They have no local playmates in a regular neighborhood and no one to drive them to play dates. They don’t take lessons or attend Cub Scouts, Brownies or Girl Scouts. They don’t go to sleepovers or friends’ birthday parties. The kids are isolated.

Why is it that you never see the kids smiling? It’s because they are miserable and unhappy living with the country’s number one beotch.

  41. Anti-icon says:

The loathing I feel for this woman (whose show I have never watched and will never watch) is sooooo intense. You popped out all these fricken kids, now stay home and mother them. WTF becoming a mom and then deciding it was a ticket to stardom. How warped. Someone please get the big hook and spare us the pain of her fame whoring.

  42. Tess says:

    People still care?

  43. Mrs Odie 2 says:

Repeat kindergarten? Sounds like the school isn’t worth the money then. If Kate lives in a neighborhood of million dollar homes, surely the local schools are nice.

  44. Narsa says:

Kate has wanted that big house ever since she saw her ex friend beths big nice house!! Remember Beth who Kate was always wanting things she had . Kate is a joke and needs to downsize . Who buys a 1million house and then gets divorced. Kate knew what she was doing . What comes around goes around , she is very selfish and self entitled !!!

  45. Gail says:

I had one child, so I guess I automatically get like an 8th of all the money and free gifts and stuff that she got. Right? I mean that’s all you have to do isn’t it? Pop out a kid? Where’s my money! Pay up ya’ll!! LOL

  46. dxbravo says:

Lose 20 more pounds hit the stripper pole, baby!

  47. Marhee says:

I, like most people, am so sick of seeing this broad’s kisser. What I see is an empty shell of a human being. I believe the term “ice water running through her veins” fits her perfectly. I feel very sorry for those children. They didn’t ask for this.

  48. lucy2 says:

After all the legal stuff about the kids and work visas, wasn’t one of the court rulings that some money from the show had to be put into a trust for the kids? Shouldn’t that pay for college?

If true, the $300K on nannies and bodyguards blows my mind. Don’t they live in rural PA? Part time help to look after the kids and house couldn’t be that expensive, especially in this economy, I’m sure there are people willing to put up with even her for a paycheck. And maybe if she wasn’t running all over looking for attention, she wouldn’t need security.

  49. drmanners says:

If she reminds someone of Ellen Barkin, she’s doing something right. Bodacious ta-ta’s!!

  50. DiMi says:

She has 8 kids. She needs a big house. And private school is expensive.

  51. malachais says:

I’m officially done with this b-tch. Go back to nursing, put your kids in public school, and STFU. Anyone with sense can revert from the “good life” for their children’s sake, especially with an unstable income..why would you even get yourself in a 10k house payment?

  52. jc126 says:

The popularity that this family USED to have never made any sense whatsoever to me. BORING and she’s got a huge sense of entitlement, for no reason whatsoever. They got public money when the kids were born – something tells me that a lot of families who receive welfare when their kids are infants would not get such a warm (initial) reception by the public. Although, a friend of mine who lives near them told me they weren’t so beloved locally when the kids were born and Kate said something to the effect of deserving a nurse paid for by the state to help her with the kids.

  53. DetRiotgirl says:

I’m so confused by their money situation. Haven’t they been on TV for a few years now? Plus, they’ve done a million tabloid interviews. Not to mention Kate’s laughable performance on Dancing With The Stars. It seems to me they should’ve made enough money by now to pay for that house, divorce not or not.

So, did they really blow all that money on hair extensions (Kate) and young girlfriends (Jon)? These people amaze me. Everyone knows reality tv money doesn’t last forever. How could they be so stupid and irresponsible?

I have zero sympathy for Kate or her ex-husband/child. I just can’t get over how much money these two have wasted. Those poor kids have been dragged through all of this, and they are going to end up with nothing but years of therapy bills (that they will have to find ways to pay for themeslves) for it.

  54. jc126 says:

DetRiot Girl, yes, they are that stupid. They were stupid and irresponsible to begin with having 8 kids they couldn’t afford, for one thing, and didn’t get any smarter when they got money.
It kind of reminds me of those shows about lottery winners, where they win millions and spend it all on luxury cars or other nonsense, then end up broke. A logical person with some brains would seek to keep as much cash as possible, but apparently morons have no concept of what “finite” means.

  55. YeahTOAST says:

I had friends that were held back in kindergarten because they were “too hyper” or were “too young” to move up to first grade (you know the kids that have birthdays in August right before the cut off date). So just being held back in kindergarten doesn’t make them stupid or the school bad, ha.

I mean, really…there are a lot of reasons why kids get held back.

  56. laffy says:

Why does she keep calling her house a mansion..it so isn’t…A mansion is for a celebrity which she isn’t. I will be glad when she goes broke and that knocks her attitude down a notch…Get a life, and be careful of Mady she is a younger version of Kate a whiney Brat!!!

  57. tanning salons which are equipped with the latest equipment is the facility that i always visit _

  58. Redskin says:

Kate can’t be complaining about money. Where is she getting the money to go globe trotting with all of her kids? That can’t be cheap!?

  59. excellent put up, very informative. I wonder why the other specialists of this sector do not notice this. You should proceed your writing. I’m sure, you’ve a great readers’ base already!
