Us Weekly: Levi Johnston & Bristol Palin are engaged!

usweekly2

Happy news! Bristol Palin and her baby-daddy Levi Johnston are engaged! Again. Levi and Bristol are parents to son Tripp, who is about a year and a half old. Originally, they called off their engagement shortly after Bristol gave birth, and Levi and the Palin family have been engaged in an Alaskan battle royale ever since, although about a month ago, there were significant rumors that Levi and Bristol were back together. Bristol confirms to Us Weekly that she and Levi got engaged about two weeks ago – and that they haven’t told Sarah Palin yet. Whoops.

Bristol Palin and Levi Johnston reveal exclusively in the new Us Weekly that they are getting married. And, they tell Us Weekly, former vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin has been kept in the dark about their plans … until now.

“We got engaged two weeks ago,” Bristol, 19, tells Us Weekly. “It felt right, even though we don’t have the approval of our parents.”

Bristol and Levi, 20 — who famously called off their previous engagement two weeks after welcoming son Tripp in December 2008 — tell Us Weekly they reconnected three months ago while working out a custody plan for their 18-month-old son.

“I really thought we were over,” Levi tells Us Weekly. “So when I went, I had no hope. I think we both just started talking — and then we took Tripp for a walk.”

Says Bristol, “When he left that night, we didn’t hug or kiss, but I was thinking how different it was. He texted me: ‘I miss you. I love you. I want to be with you again’ … I was in shock.”

Now comes the hard part: Getting the blessing of Sarah Palin, who has made no secret of her feelings for Levi. He provoked her fury last fall when he claimed that she had called her infant son Trig (who has Down syndrome) “retarded.” She fired back, telling reporters that anyone who posed for Playgirl would “say and do anything for even more attention.”

Later, during an interview with Oprah Winfrey, she dubbed him “Ricky Hollywood” and called his “aspiring porn” career “heartbreaking.”

Says Bristol, “It is intimidating and scary just to think about what her reaction is going to be. Hopefully she will jump on board.”

[From Us Weekly]

It actually makes sense, to me at least. Even though Levi bashed the Palins in general, he usually didn’t say anything harsh about Bristol, and you could tell they still had feelings for each other. Plus, I always kind of thought they were probably still sleeping together. I think this a nice story – a young couple coming back together after a few years of insanity, after they’ve done some growing up. Hopefully they’ll be a lot stronger this time around. And hopefully, Sarah Palin will stay out of it, publicly and privately.

UPDATE: Us Weekly got Sarah and Todd Palin’s statement about the engagement: “Bristol at 19 is now a young adult. We obviously want what’s best for our children. Bristol believes in redemption and forgiveness to a degree most of us struggle to put in practice in our daily lives.” So… they’re giving their blessing?

Colour me cynical, but she’s probably pregnant again.

If not (or even if she is), I hope they make it. It’s very difficult to make a marriage work at such a young age, with the parents not approving. Little sweet baby boy would probably be thrilled if his parents could work things out and stay together.

  2. snowball says:

Huh. Well that’s a shocker. Cynical me says they’re still waaaay too young, but I guess it doesn’t hurt for them to try for the sake of the little one.

I hope they have lots of CONSTRUCTIVE help. I’m giving you the side-eye, Sarah.

  3. CB Rawks says:

    Gross!!
After all the shit he pulled and what a slimy jackass he is? Not to mention avoiding helping her with the baby and not paying child support!
What a thorough moron that Bristol is!
heheh Suckit Sarah, your family’s future is gonna be hellish!

  4. locagirl says:

Hopefully they can make it work for their son. Sarah “Family Values” Palin should be behind this – isn’t that what she stands for? In-tact families? It’ll be hypocritical of her if she doesn’t.

  5. bite me says:

so Sarah is really running for president in 2012, Xenu help us 🙁

  6. London says:

gotta get those ducks in a row for that presidential run!

  7. mslewis says:

They are far too young to marry. But, I don’t really care so I’ll just shut up. Cute baby.

  8. onyx says:

may the patron Saint Holy Dysfuctia watch over them. I’m sure grandma is going to be thrilled. if I were him I wouldn’t leave the house without a bulletproof vest, I hear there are a lot of hunting accidents in Alaska.

  9. guesty says:

    good luck levi…good luck.

  10. Kitten says:

Um, really? Saw on the Today show that US Weekly couldn’t discuss the details of whether they were paid for the story or not. This rings about as true as the Jeremy London kidnap story.

  11. DetRiotgirl says:

I guess this is good news. I don’t know. They’re really young. But, on the Bright side, I’ve always thought that Bristol and the baby are cute. Despite her questionable relatives and abstinence speeches, they are an attractive family. I hope they make it work, for the sake of their son.

  12. IceKitty says:

I believe it. I wish them well. They make a nice looking couple..

  13. Jillian says:

    I give them 6 months.

  14. Me1st says:

that statement didn’t really give its blessing, did it? i don’t think it did.

Also, why do they have to get married within the next 6 weeks unless she is knocked up again and since she is such a great spokesperson for not having sex, that would end the cash cow for her

  15. Missfit says:

Wow, honestly, I’ve never thought much about Sarah Palin, but I think Sarah is a good mom and this girl seems to have a good family who supports her all the way. Why ruin it by getting back with this douche? Just the “retarded” comment he made about her brother is really messed up. She should have not even thought about it twice and I don’t blame Sarah lashing out back for it. But you know, she’s being just as dumb as any other girl who gets back with their ex, bla bla bla. I’ve been there and done that and that second chance was enough, it was no more back and forth crap. Some people learn from it, some people don’t and they keep going back for more and more. I hope she seriously learns and if he doesn’t seriously change for her and that cute little baby, then she needs to move the fuck on. But, ya, the whole “I miss you, love you crap?” I think it’s to avoid those court dates and child support payments, hmmfft. Rich people, or not, poor people, we all through that same crap with the baby daddy, yup. I also think Sarah’s little boy is adorable.

  16. jen says:

I’m happy for them, I hope they can make it work.

    GO SARAH!!

  17. Riley says:

I wonder what Kathy Griffin has to say about this.

  18. Lway says:

As messed up as all this sounds now – i am happy for them. It’s true, you don’t know what you have until it’s gone.

Congrats and all the best to these 3 people!

  19. bizzy says:

” … and why they hid it from sarah”

because sarah is a maniac with lots of guns?

  20. Lady Jane says:

It looks like the baby has blue eyes and the two parents have brown eyes. This is genetically impossible! EDIT: Actually I just googled it and that is possible. My high school biology teacher has a lot to answer for!

  21. bizzy says:

@lady jane: no, that is genetically completely possible. don’t argue, or i’ll hit you with my freshly minted biology doctorate.

  22. MonicaBee says:

    @Missfit…

I think you read the comment wrong regarding the “retard” comment. Levi heard Sarah Palin call her son, Tripp (who has Down Syndrome) “retarded”. Levi did not call Tripp retarded. Sarah Palin did.

At least that’s how I read the article.

I had a feeling this would happen with Levi & Bristol. I wish them luck. Hopefully they can remain far, far away from Psycho Sarah and live happily ever after.

  23. kml says:

And hopefully, Sarah Palin will stay out of it, publicly and privately.

what a stupid thing to say. for one, she’s the mother. for two, people ask her about it constantly. what has she ever done besides disagree with you politically? you guys are nicer to mel gibson, seriously.

  24. Cleo says:

If any of you think this story wasn’t already approved by Sarah, I’ve got a bridge to Nowhere in Alaska to sell you. It’s actually PR genius. “Those crazy kids” can act like they’re doing what they really want to do and Sarah gets to make herself look like a good Christian talking about forgiveness and such. I agree – with all the money Sarah’s been throwing around lately, looks like she’s making a run for 2012. Or Bristol’s pregnant again. Or probably both.

  25. Bodhi says:

    That person barely resembles Brisotl!

  26. YeaRight!!! says:

So I take it he’ll be invited to Thanksgiving dinner this year?

  27. nolanative says:

Well, I guess this is why you can’t totally discredit gossip sites. Wasn’t there some blurb about them being together a while back? I personally wish the whole lot of Wasilla hillbillies would return there and never be allowed to step foot in the lower 48 but hey, I must admit I have a new found respect for Bristol. This girl truly is her own person cause I’m sure hell has no fury like a blind-sided p.o.’d Sara P.

@Cleo – great point. Actually didn’t think of that. Score one for the head Hillbilly. Marketing genius.

  28. lauri says:

Levi is broke, woos Bristol. Bristol still loves Levi.(may be pregnant again, not the smartest kid) Any money Bristol has made is with Sarah’s approval and help, ie: Sarah knows all about Bristol. Sarah’s camp issues apology from Levi.(it has her stamp all over it)That statement did not come from either of these teenagers and I doubt either has the money for a PR person. The teenagers get paid for the spread in US magazine and Sarah looks good in her comment on the engagement without having to approve of Levi. All controlled and managed by Sarah Palin. Notice that Bristol makes no comment about telling her dad!

  29. Iggles says:

Indeed it is. What suspect is two blue eyed parents having a baby with brown eyes.. (Though on rare occasions it does happen)

Anyway, I definitely think she’s pregnant.

  30. BrandyMc says:

I was 19 when I got married. Granted I was pregnsnt and I am from the south. LOl but, my marriage is still going strong 11 years later. Hopefully it works out for them.

  31. MSat says:

I don’t think mom and dad Palin are giving their blessing. That statement to me sounded like “Bristol’s an adult, we can’t tell her what to do, so whatever.”

  32. L says:

Look it’s not that hard to have two parents with brown eyes and a baby with blue. If the brown eye is the dominant gene, X and blue is the recessive y-Mom and dad might both have XY genes for eyes. So their possible combos are XX, Xy, Xy, or YY. It’s a 1/4 shot (thank you high school biology :D)

@cleo I totally agree with you. I highly doubt those two would announce they are getting engaged on a tabloid without Sarah’s express knowledge and content.

Although “Bristol believes in redemption and forgiveness to a degree most of us struggle to put in practice in our daily lives.” is a very passive agressive statement. As in ‘ you still suck levi’

  33. andrea says:

agree with london. “unwed daughter with child” must not be polling well with the conservative “family values” voters for the 2012 primary prep. i think sarah’s statement is La Hypocrite’s way of prepping us for the 180 she’s about to do on Levi so she can start pimping Bristol as a fellow hockey mom.

also, what’s up with the cover shot? barely resembles Bristol.

  34. annaloo says:

Sarah Palin deserves Levi as a son-in-law, he deserves her as a mother-in-law….As much as that family, particularly Sarah, seem to love the cameras, I CANNOT believe there is not a reality show being developed..

  35. Riley says:

@Annaloo: Oh yeah good call…reality show for sure. Bravo or TLC?

  36. lucy2 says:

After all the very public bashing these two families did at each other, I find it hard to believe things are going to be just peachy between them. I wish them luck, mostly for the sake of their kid, but I’m not as optimistic as some.

An exclusive with US Weekly = love of $$$ and fame. Gross. And at first I was thinking how ridiculous, announcing via a tabloid and not telling the parents, but now I’m think you guys are right, they knew and it’s all part of the PR plan.
That statement is super passive aggressive though, isn’t it? :O

analoo, I was thinking the same thing this morning too, there’s probably a reality show brewing!
I was also wondering how much whoring around he did while on his little Hollywood adventure.
They also released a statement saying they’re “pro-abstinence”. Uh…little late for that!

  37. TaylorB says:

What a cute little kid, granted both the parents are very attractive. I am happy for them and hope they are doing this for the right reasons, love not politics. Only time will tell.

  38. Belle Epoch says:

Levi had better sleep with a gun next to his bed. Sarah does NOT forgive OR forget, despite her Christian-sounding words.

  39. Dingles says:

If Palin becomes president in 2012 I think the world might actually end. They all deserve each other.

  40. Tia C says:

Wonder if there has ever been a DNA test? That (very cute) baby doesn’t resemble either parent in the slightest. And I agree with the “she must be pregnant again” camp. Seems like the people who preach “abstinence” the loudest are the ones least likely to actually practice it.

@ annaloo: The reality show is a fantastic idea. I can’t think of any other use for Sarah Palin and her dysfunctional rednecky white trash family! I don’t watch reality shows, but I would definitely check out that one for the sheer entertainment value of all the single-digit IQs!!

  41. bros says:

there is no way Sarah didnt know about this. last week was the whole big Levi’s SHOCKING apology to Sarah. They primed this story with the apology story, and it was all a publicity stunt. didnt tell the palins, puh-LEASE.

  42. malachais says:

This will only work out if they both move back to Alaska. Keyword “if.”

Seems a bit irresponsible to not tell Sarah or Todd Palin prior to being on US Magazine. This almost seems spontaneous yet calculated.

Overall, I am glad to see them back together, if it for the right reasons. I can definitely relate to Bristol in some ways. Wish them the best if they take the right steps toward making things work.

  43. Olderbudweiser says:

I’d pay money to watch the Palin Family Thanksgiving Dinner on pay-per-view. Even more for ringside seats.

  44. di butler says:

Sarah Palin doesn’t control her kid no more than any other parent controls their 19 yr old. Or their 16 yr old for that matter. Seriously, they couldn’t stop her from screwing “Ricky Hollywood” anymore than they can stop her from stupidly marrying him. That’s why she had such a passive-aggressive statement, one would guess. Sounds like Bristol is definately defying the family, putting her in the same category as every young adult, at one time or another.

    Cute kid.

  45. flourpot says:

I think Bristol was probably raised fairly conservative and the whole pregnancy thing was her teenage rebellion ending in an oops! Pressure from Sarah probably broke the 2 apart and Levi, being an idiot and a boy, made some dumbass comments. They probably do still have feelings for each other and the fact that Bristol’s making some bank, helps the reunion and possible marriage right along. Sarah will work it to her advantage, if she does run for election. God forbid.

  46. Mrs Odie 2 says:

I’ve always wondered about the “retarded baby” statement. I’ve always thought it possible that she said it, but in an affectionate way. You know, like how you call a beloved sister “ya crazy b****!” but you mean it with love? Out of context, it sounds horrible. My husband calls me Sugartits. He means it with love.

    Not excusung it, just theorizing.

I hate Palin. Always have. In fact, when I was pregnant, I got in an argument with a very close friend about her and the friend never talked to me again.

  47. Sugar & Spice says:

PR move? Of course it is, completely. It’s all about politics and image with that family. I wish those two crazy kids all the best, they’ll need as much luck as they can get to make it work.

And it is entirely possible for two brown eyed parents to have a blue eyed child. I’m proof and I look just like my dad. My grandma has blue eyes and both my parents have blue eyed siblings, so the gene is definitely there. Now if two blued eyed parents had a brown eyed child, then I’d be asking questions about paternity, lol.

  48. serena says:

Trig and Trip. Wow, such a fantasy!

Anyway that baby is way too cute for his parents XD, that is.. how did he come like this? They’re so .. meh..

  49. benny says:

They’re as trashy as any reality show family. I’ll bet that’s next on their list. It’s the only way talentless, brainless, clueless jerks can make a lot of money.

  50. LolaBella says:

    I think she’s pregnant again.

Now I understand Levi’s public apology to Sarah; he’s gonna be a part of the big happy family as Sarah runs for president in 2012. 🙄 #godhelpusall

  51. rosie says:

@ iggles you have it backwards lol. the baby has blue eyes and the parents have brown, which is totally possible as per the explanation above by L. It’s impossible for two blue-eyed parents to have a child with any other eye color, because the gene for blue eyes is recessive, so both parents would need to possess two blue-eyed genes.

I heard somewhere that people with blue eyes will subconsciously seek out mates with blue eyes so they know if the women cheated (based on eye color)

  52. original kate says:

i have three thoughts on this:

    1) sarah is running in 2012 and …

    2) bristol is pregnant again, so…

    3) cue the reality show!

  53. Amy says:

Surprising. Though Levi was young, foolish, naive and ultimately misled( appearing on the Behar show,Posing naked) to betray and slime the Palin family, I hope they had a relationship counseling before deciding to get married.I suspect the rush to marry could be an insistence from Britol.Isn’t she an advocate against pre-marital sex.

  54. i don’t agree with the blue eyed parents only being able to have blue eyed children. i think that the genetic grid we were taught in high school is faulty- there have certainly been cases where blue eyed parents have children with other eye colors. my in-laws both have blue eyes- my husband does not. no magic there, just laws of nature.

  55. Iggles says:

rosie – You misunderstood me. I was agreeing with the previous poster that “indeed it is” common for 2 brown eyed parents to have a blue eyed kid.

What is rarer is a for two blue eyed parents to have a brown eyed kid. It’s quite uncommon, but as ‘that’s what she said’ wrote it can happen.

Sometimes other genes can impact eye color. Say if one parent’s blue eyes is a caused by a mutation they could actually carry genes for brown eyes. As a result the kid gets one brown eye gene and one blue eye gene. Brown eye color is dominant, so without the mutation the kid will brown eyes.

That’s just one scenario. This link explains it in depth:
    http://www.thetech.org/genetics/ask.php?id=101

  56. Joi Sienna says:

Politics = blah blah blah to me. Especially Sarah Palin’s politics.

Tripp looks like a little cherub and I hope Bristol and Levi are genuinely happy together. Gotta say, I wasn’t expecting him to be so blond haired and blue eyed! I’m sure they enhanced it, but wowsers! He’s just striking. What a gorgeous boy! Yay good vibes! (Really, does anything else matter?)

  57. Bodhi says:

@ malachais : They both still live in Alaska.
