Heather Mills can’t afford to move to the US – Americans breathe a sigh of relief

Someone seems to be trying to say something nice about Heather Mills here – but they don’t quite pull it off.

The former glamour model won a $50 million divorce settlement from the former Beatle last month (Mar08) and has since spent time in the U.S. judging the Miss USA beauty pageant – fitting in a visit to the Big Apple during the same trip.

And Mills was reported to be viewing properties in the prestigious Greenwich Village area of the city.
But now the 40-year-old’s representative Michelle Elyzabeth has hit back at the rumours – declaring that Mills can’t afford a New York home.

She says, “She doesn’t have that much money. It’s a lot of money to a regular person, but once you want to start supporting good causes, that money goes really quick.”

So, Heather loves charitable causes so much, that was why she was hankering for the cash from Sir Paul. I think even the most glamour-loving of us could probably afford to spend a bit of a $50 million fortune on an apartment. Maybe Sir Paul will even pay for it himself – anything to have Heather permanently stationed on the other side of the Atlantic ocean. Until now he probably hasn’t appreciated how far that really is.

I also sort of get the impression that her publicist is hinting that $50 million wasn’t a very generous divorce settlement, particularly given that Heather isn’t a ‘regular person’. What does that mean?

Heather has in the past been contradictory about moving to the United States – first saying she’d like to move to LA, then saying she couldn’t move Beatrice away from her father, before apartment shopping in Greenwich village.

Of course, there is one way that Heather could get some money for charitable causes that wouldn’t dip into her hard-earned divorce money – get a job and earn it. You’ve said in the past that you aren’t a gold digger – prove it!

“Eighty-five percent of my income goes to my charity. The word gold digger doesn’t go with that. If I was a gold-digger, I would have a lot of money in my bank account. I’d be worth millions and millions.”

She also says she didn’t marry McCartney for his money: “I’m a good mother. I’m a good person. I fell in love for the right reason. I fell in love unconditionally.”

Despite her reputation, Mills says she’s received an outpouring of sympathy. “I have had so much public support,” she says. “People hugging me in the streets. I didn’t know that many people cared. You get to know who your friends are and I haven’t lost any friends.”

Maybe the issue is that no co-op board will have her in their apartment.

    “Heather isn’t a ‘regular person’”

Ain’t that the truth. Maybe it might have more to do with Heather not exactly being inundated and overwhelmed with work opportunities in the States? That she can’t afford an apartment is a get-out clause to protect her from possible ridicule on this side of the pond since she did boast at length about her blossoming US TV career and how y’all loved and admired her over there!

    Great headline, Helen.
It made me laugh, and I will go back to my work with a smile on my face.

Sometimes it is a great advantage to be a regular person and be able to afford to live an ocean away from Heather Mills.

I kinda doubt everything that comes out of her mouth. She’s always blathering on about how much support she has from the public. It seems so desperate.

Heather needs to check in to rehab so she can begin to get a grip on reality and try and age gracefully.

    Like that’ll ever happen.

As a “regualr person” I’d like the say “Thank You Jeebus” for making me different from Ms. Mills.

Sorry Geronimo, ya’ll can keep her 😉

Didn’t she say a few weeks ago that she was gonna move to Continental Europe?

What, 48 million dollars doesn’t buy what it used to ??

    Per the Telegraph 3/18/2008:

“….Despite being asked [by the court], Miss Mills was unable to produce a record of any money sent by her to any charity between 1997 and 2000….Justice Bennett added: ‘Moreover, her tax returns disclose no charitable giving at all.'”

Her rep’s statement is great though… “It’s a lot of money to a regular person, but….” she’s, of course, irregular!

Whitey Fisk, thanks for bringing that up, I was about to. Bare-faced liar. Be interesting to see exactly how much of her current windfall ends up in charitable hands…her end of year tax returns should make very interesting, if irregular, reading.

Well the headline is true in some sense: she can afford living in New York but can NOT afford living there too long if she continues living her lifestyle.

Money nowadays doesn’t have face-value anymore. They go so quickly. Look at Michael Jackson, Britney Spears, they used to have a super star lifestyle, now they are only afford a comfortable life but not that luxurious anymore.

I think without regular steady income but with regular steady “outcome”, private jet, plastic surgery, dancing classes, fashion, food…..etc, her money indeed will go very quickly. Quickier than anyone thinks.

even at the lowest interest rate on the planet and ever touching the principle 50 million…she’d have 2.5 million to live on!
