Does Natalie Portman think Ashton Kutcher is a jackass?

A few months ago, there were lots of on-set photos coming out of Ashton Kutcher and Natalie Portman, who were cast as each other’s sort-of love interests in Friends With Benefits. It seemed like odd casting at the time, but the photos were cute enough for me (and others) to wonder if Demi Moore was bothered by Ashton spending so much time with such a pretty young actress. Turns out, Demi probably didn’t have anything to worry about, because Natalie and Ashton didn’t get along at all, according to Us Weekly:

It seems Natalie Portman thinks Ashton Kutcher is a twit. While shooting Friends With Benefits (which is now untitled) last spring, Kutcher and Portman - who played hookup buddies in the comedy - “couldn’t stand each other,” says a set source.

Kutcher “talks about his Twitter all day and thinks highly of himself,” continues the insider. And Harvard grad Portman wasn’t impressed.

“She would do her scenes then head back to her trailer and read books or scripts,” says the source. “She had no interest in hanging out with Ashton.”

Counters a source close to Portman: “Not true. They had a great time filming.”

[From Us Weekly, print edition]

Sounds more like the source is guessing at their relationship more than stating a fact, although once you hear it put this way, I could see how they would have absolutely nothing in common. And I don’t find it hard to believe that Ashton is full of himself. Problem is that I think Natalie is probably pretty full of herself too - which makes me wonder: why did these two supremely talented actors (in their own minds) sign on to do a dumb comedy about friends hooking up?

  6. Portman is an arrogant twit. She has said so many ignorant and dumb things that I think she was only let into Harvard thanks to her celebrity status.

  7. I agree with Ally. I’ve always thought Ashton was a jackass, but after reading some of the things that have come out of her mouth, she’s definitely the bigger jackass of the two.

  8. I find Portman to be one of the most obnoxious Hollywood star. So yes, team Ashton here.

  9. I liked the part about her retreating to her trailer to read scripts and books, while he twittered. Ashton’s pretty smart, I think he was studying Engineering or Chemistry before he became a model/actor. I think what’s annoying is the act he puts on to seem cool or relatable.

  10. Yeah, sorry Nat. You are the jackass here. Ashton is just an idiot.

  11. Oh, the chemistry.

Ashton, an aging juvenile twit and Natalie, a self-impressed, elitist twit.

  15. Lol, I agree with Tess. Juvenile twit and elitist twit. I’m thinking they probably didn’t get along. And while Natalie seems to be highly thought of as an actress, she doesn’t seem that bankable. Heigel probably opens a movie better.

  16. Team Ashton, definitely.
Although I agree: Ashton is SO full of himself.

  17. OMG, Natalie Portman… I have no words to describe what a snotty twit she is capable of being. I used to have a place in Sea Cliff (Long Island) and she was a neighbor (I think she’s since sold the house). She was so unfriendly and snooty it wasn’t funny.

  18. I don’t know that much about her, but she does give off a “high and mighty” air, for no apparent reason. I like Ashton OK, I usually do enjoy his movies despite not wanting to, although I HATE HATE HATE that retarded show “Punk’d.” Ugh, why that show is still on the air is truly a sad comment on our society. I agree with the general consensus that they are (probably) both jackasses.

  19. Both of their “careers” seem to be in a ditch and they also probably want the money for this stupid movie. Ashton Kutcher is a smarmy twit, but she’s no better. She believes she’s smart but is a vapid dullard. Most of all, she’s a Polanski supporter so for that alone her movies are banned. Not a problem as neither are good actors or interesting on screen

  20. NATALIE PORTMAN SUPPORTS POLANSKI - Tell me who the unintelligent idiot is?! Obviously her! I wont see anything with ehr or any Polanski supporter in it so actors beware of taking roles with Polasnki supporters because the movies will be boycotted by alot of people.

  21. Love the irony of all the judges here writing of their being high and mighty, a twit, snooty, jackasses, etc., without knowing either personally.

  22. I don’t see any reason why actors NEED to like each other while filming a movie. I mean they’re ACTORS aren’t they?

It’s not crazy to dislike a co-worker or keep to yourself at work.

Both really need the publicty right now. Killers sucked, bad casting. Brothers wasn’t executed well either.

  25. I don’t know if Natalie needs a hit. Her recent movies have mostly been independent and art films. She’s respected as actress although I don’t think she’s that great. She may project as being snobby but if she actually was I doubt she would do a film with Ashton Kutcher.

Actually, I DO know her personally. I lived on Bay Ave, in Sea Cliff (where she lived for a few years. I think she sold her house there last year, I moved to the City and LA two years ago). I also worked on the set of “Garden State,” so I’ve had firsthand experience of her. She absolutely CAN be a snooty twit. She can also be funny and she likes dogs. Can’t comment on Ashton Kutcher, because I’ve never met him.
