The only conclusion that I can draw is that the Law & Order: SVU casting director is a crackhead. That is literally the only explanation for the line of crazy, horrible casting decisions that Law & Order: SVU has faced in the past few years, notably last year, when Sharon Stone almost single-handedly destroyed my beloved series. I hated her character so much, I longed for Christine Lahti’s drunken paleo-feminist ADA to show up again. And Lahti sucked too! Ugh. Anyway, Jennifer Love Hewitt got a job! She’s going to guest star on SVU on one of their first episodes of the new season. I guess she’s playing a rape victim?
Jennifer Love Hewitt is best known for her girl next door looks. But she made a startlingly transformation as she appeared battered and bruised to play a woman who has suffered a terrifying rape attack.
With her face scrubbed clean of make-up, clothes ripped and distressed, the only embellishment was the fake blood she had been daubed with.
The 31-year-old Ghost Whisperer actress is appearing as a guest star on show Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. And in between takes she was seen relaxing with the show’s star, actress Mariska Hargitay , 46, who plays Detective Olivia Benson.
Love Hewitt is playing a woman named Vicki who has been raped multiple times and is afraid to leave her house.
The show’s executive producer Neal Baer said, ‘One of the reasons we wanted to do this episode is because it addresses Mariska Hargitay’s passion for rape kits, which helps gather evidence to convict the rapists.’
Hargitay co-founded the Joyful Heart Foundation, a charity that supports women and children who are victims of sexual assault, child abuse and domestic violence.

I mean, I love Det. Benson and everything, but do we really have to describe it as a “passion” for rape kits? Aren’t rape kits just sort of a necessity and something you should do in a horrible situation? That’s like saying someone has a “passion” for enemas.
I also find this somewhat funny because Jennifer Love has been hustling ever since The Ghost Whisperer got cancelled. She’s been everywhere the past few months, setting up paparazzi “candids” and giving interview after interview about how confident she is, etc. All for the hustle. And this is what all that hustling gets? A guest shot on SVU? Oh, J. Love.

Its a tough industry ,her show got cancelled unexpectedly. I always root for the underdog. I know shes really dumb and desperate but she works and hasnt comitted felonies a la lohan.
I wish her well and hope she gets a new tv show role somewhere
That headline more than offends me. Most of us would be happy to look as good dressed up as a minimally-made-up Jennifer does. Her skin looks great, her bone structure’s enviable, and posting a couple of shots in awkward mid-speech does nothing to assuage the terrible ways she’s been objectified by the media already.
Why the hate ? She is nice, a pretty decent actress and gets the jobs she can.
This industry is harsh ans she gets bashed for no reason in my opinion. Maybe she is insecure but at least she is not a mess like Spears, Lohan, Cyrus and such.
At least she is willing to do what it takes to get work.

I think they just said it strangely – passion for rape kits. I think what they mean is having free rape kits available to all women. Many places end up charging the victim for the kit, so many won’t go and have one done. It’s a sad, sad world.
What happened to her? Wasn’t she sort of an it-girl around the time of “Party of Five”?
I was going to mention the “passion” comment, but I’m glad it was already addressed in the article. Kind of makes it sound like Mariska has a collection, you know? Next to all the nick-nacks and commemorative plates, her collection of rape kits. I would continue the analogy but I can’t do it in good taste, or without hating myself.
I guess he meant that it highlights her advocacy of rape kit usage but he could do with issuing a little clarifying statement to that effect…!

I don’t get all the negativity towards her. She may not be A-list, but she’s always been working consistently. It’s not like she’s one those celebs who simply goes out t events and doesn’t do any work. I never watched Ghost Whisperer, but I watched her in the Lifetime movie “The Client List” a couple weeks ago and I actually thought she did a good job.

SVU sucks. it is always a bad sign when a show has to resort to stunt casting. and L&O criminal intent was way better when goren & eames were on. take that, dick wolf!
I also thought that rape kit wording was very odd. JLH is an attention ho that can’t handle being ignored. Shall we count down to her next engagement?!

yes, it’s a poorly worded statement but it’s something that deserves attention. rape kits are so sadly undertested it’s pathetic. some kits have been done and sit in storage waiting to be tested for months, and sometimes, never get tested. it’s a sad state of affairs when women are told to stop drinking in order to prevent date rape yet we have ways to convict these, excuse my french, pieces of shit scumbags and they just sit on shelves in forgotten rooms.
it was worded poorly, but we should all be rallying around rape kits and their importance in convicting rapists and keeping them behind bars.
that said, jennifer love hewitt is a pretty girl and i don’t get the hate either. yeah she’s a little desperate, but that’s how we like our hollywood actresses, desperate and insecure. they’re so much easier to put on the cover of a tabloid that way.
She looks just as homely to me as she ever does – no better, no worse.
Damn it, I won’t be watching SVU anymore.

oh! and i meant to say that i don’t get the JLH hate, either. she’s a cute girl and a competent actress who seems nice enough, if a bit immature. i did watch a “ghost whisperer” marathon once when i had the flu, and it was an okay show, but maybe it was the fever.
I like Jennifer Love Hewitt. She’s really nice. I worked on “Ghost Whisperer” for awhile (man, it rocked having a steady job in this industry) and she was always really nice to the crew. The high point, though, was getting to see David Conrad (played her husband) every day. What a gorgeous man!!!
She didn’t “ugly it up” for Law&Order, she just had removed the tons of makeup that make her look SLIGHTLY cute (at best) and only sometimes. I never got why people say this girl is pretty and why, in the name of God, she thinks she looks like Audrey Hepburn.
