Tim Gunn verbally bitch-slaps Vogue’s Anna Wintour – again!

This story comes via Jezebel, and it’s about our beloved boyfriend Tim Gunn. Tim is in the midst of his publicity tour for his epic tell-all Bitches Be Trippin’. I wish – no, the book is actually called Gunn’s Golden Rules: Life’s Little Lessons for Making It Work. This morning, Tim went on Regis & Kelly to discuss the book, and he brought his attitude with him, thank God. Unfortunately, it wasn’t the tsunami of bitchy hilarity that we’ve previously covered – instead, Tim just decided to take Anna Wintour out – AGAIN. Previously, Tim had told a story about Wintour that got wide play – basically, that Anna made her bodyguards carry her down flights of stairs because Dame Wintour wouldn’t deign to walk in her heels at an event.

So, in the Regis & Kelly interview, Regis asks Tim for his biggest diva story, and Tim talks more about Wintour. Tim repeats the story about Wintour being carried by her bodyguards, then says that when Anna heard that Gunn was telling the story, “she went ballistic and ‘this must be retracted and you must rescind the statement. It‘s untrue…’” Then Gunn verbally bitchslaps Anna once again: “Well, it was true and there were many witnesses to it. I wasn’t the only one who saw it. And the reason it appears in my book is because her reaction to it. And the message is, the gold rule is: accept responsibility for your own behavior. If you’re going to be carried down five flights of stairs, own up to it.” He also talks about her “working a Manolo” – it’s pretty priceless:

Fabulous. I love him. I love that he’s THE ONE person to call Wintour out. Maybe he can take on Blake Lively next? Perhaps.

By the way, did everyone see Tim bitch out Gretchen on Project Runway two episodes ago? That sh-t was magical. Tim needs to bitch out contestants more often.

    MERCY Bow Coop!!!!

and swoon! Tim Gunn you make it work, you really do.

And Tim bitch slapping Gretchen was the best thing I have EVER seen on PR- ever.

  2. Rita says:

Genuflect and curtsy, all hail the Gunn! (I bet he’d hate that if I did. He’s a man who likes honest dignity and respect.)

  3. Tiffany says:

“Tim is in the midst of his publicity tour for his epic tell-all Bitches Be Trippin’. I wish – no.”

HAHAHAHA- Laugh of the day, Kaiser.

  4. raccoonprincess says:

Team Gunn. I only say that because it sounds so cool. Is there anyone that would be Team Pageboy?

Favorite ProjRunW moment was Tim Gunn on a trampoline.

  5. Sumodo1 says:

    Devil Wears Prada II?

    And, Kaiser, hon, it’s “Manolo.”

  6. Gabrielle says:

I would totally buy that book if it were titled Bitches Be Trippin’.

  7. Hautie says:

I love that he has made a market for himself. He can earn money without having to care about the sh*t storm that Wintour rained down on him. For telling the truth.

She is not a nice person. And he has no problem pointing that out.

    Good for him.

  8. BethL says:

His head looks extremely huge in the first photo. It looks like a photograph from a funhouse mirror.

  9. gabs says:

haha i love that he didnt back down! Not many would risk angerring wintour

  10. KsGirl says:

Hearing someone publically call out Nuclear Wintour is making me squee. So. Awesome. She really is (was) completely untouchable and it is SO NICE to see her getting slammed for her awfulness. Go Tim!

  11. Leek says:

Anna Wintour looks like a velociraptor in that picture up above.

  12. Praise St. Angie! says:

    Llama? Velociraptor?

    no, no, no…

she looks like one of those troll dolls.

  13. I wish Tim Gunn was my godfather. The man is awesome.

  14. TG says:

Hey I had a pet llama and they are really cute so don’t insult them. LOL and I saw the movie “The September Issue” and that British red head that looks like Patricia Field (don’t know her name) had more fashion sense and eye for detail then Ms. Wintour.

  15. GatsbyGal says:

Oh Tim Gunn, you are so regal, and such a gentleman. <3

  16. Juice in LA says:

@raccoonprinc – Oh yes, you are spot on, that was a total classic. How could I forget the Trampoline?

and like the rest of you, I would pay for a book titled “Bitch be trippin’”, whether by Mr. Gunn or Kaiser.

  17. Xx says:

He looked so genuinely disgusted and pissed off at Gretchen and she SO deserved it. Watch out!!

  18. ladyofthelake says:

As one who walked the hallowed halls and encountered Madame Nuclear when she was the editrix of HB (just pre-Vogue) -I can attest to the fact that she can be insufferable in extremis. If she didn’t deem you important enough, she wouldn’t look at you, but would direct her eyes just off to the side of one of your shoulders. Really ridiculous and mean-spirited. No wonder her family pokes holes in her self-constructed armor!

  19. Maritza says:

The picture of Anna Wintour speaks volumes, the woman has a bitchy face. OMG, I never had noticed how skinny Kelly is.

  20. Ron says:

I love it when people get called out for something the quite obvioudly did and then bitch about being called out for what they quite obviously did. Wintour is talented I give her that, but man she is a cu next tuesday.

  21. Dawn says:

Dead@Bitches Be Trippin’. Thanks for the laugh.

Tim Gunn is my new Homie!

  22. Trillion says:

I was afraid the current season of PR was getting duller by the second until Fraulein Gretchen reared her head. I read that was the Most Watched Epi in PR history. Just goes to show, PR would be a pale shadow of itself without the mighty Gunn!

  23. Audra says:

Go Go Gunn! Frickin’- A I love him.

  24. mslewis says:

I don’t know Anna Wintour but she has people who have worked for her for years and, in the fashion industry, people don’t stay and work for people they don’t like and/or respect. That’s all I have to say.

I know what Tim Gunn says about Anna being carried down those stairs is true because other people have mentioned it several times but I really don’t see how that makes her a bad person. I also don’t see where her not looking at a person makes her bad. The woman is reported to be shy and shy people don’t look others in the eye.

Just my opinion. But, I defend Martha Stewart also, so don’t mind me!!

  25. Chickadees4me says:

@ #24 Ron – cu next tuesday, lmao love it

I may use that one sometime :)

  26. Liana says:

I love this man more than my luggage! He said what I always say: “own your shit.”

  27. lucy2 says:

Love it! I especially love that he went ahead and ratted her out in the book BECAUSE of her reaction to it.
Can we just hire him out to go around bitch slapping divas and idiots and telling them to own up to their behavior?

  28. coup de grazia says:

@TG – Grace Coddington. I hear she is the “real” fashion person at Vogue, not so much Wintour. Who knows. I’m sure Anna is an epic bitch and I’m sure Tim Gunn can be quite a little bitch in his own way and I love it on each of them and wouldn’t want either of them any other way! Going to the Fashion’s Night Out Show at Lincoln Center in a few hours – yay!

  29. Fluffy Kitten Tail says:

Keep it up TIm! It makes me love you more.

I stopped buying Vogue because of Wintour. After being a subscriber since my teens, I just got sick of her.

    Vogue needs a change.

  30. TG says:

@coup de grazia – Thanks for the name of Grace Coddington, I just loved the pictures she selected in the movie and think she should be in charge and not that rat looking woman.

  31. lw says:

oh so it’s okay for a gay man to be b*tchy, but not a woman! OF COURSE! and i bet a couple of you (and many on the jezebel site from which this originated) consider yourselves feminists, pro-woman! HA! and Grace may be the true fashionista at Vogue, but it takes a b*tch to run a highly successful business (see other “b*tches”: Oprah, Martha Stewart).

  32. Liana says:

Hey, you can be a bitch, regardless of your sex, as long as you own your bitchiness.

  33. K-MAC says:

I LOVE HIM!!!!! He owns up to his business!

  34. Lardy Chops says:

Tim’s the man and no mistake.

  35. LondonLady says:

@ fluffy kitten tail, so agree but its not just in the US. Elle is rapidly catching up Vogue here in the UK in terms of circulation and its not hard to see why. One magazine tells you what to wear and what to buy it, and, not so much.. not even that good a read

  36. Welldun says:

Ok, I’ve been reading about Tim Gunn and his humor. Although I’ve never seen his show I did have a thought…

He seems to enjoy poking Anna Wintour so, I guess you could call him Karma…he seems to be hers anyway

  37. OhCamille! says:

@Azurea: hysterical! I was thinking camel…is that mean?

  38. mavis says:

@TG, the british red hair is Grace Coddington. And she tells it like it is to Anna Wintour. Tim Gunn Rocks.

  39. geenie says:

I kinda wanna read his book…I’m sure it’ll be as fabulous as he. Did you know that his dad was a top dog in the FBI? His son turned out gay. Goes to show, you just never know. He writes about it in his book.

  40. mavis says:

@TG, the british red hair is Grace Coddington. And she tells it like it is to Anna Wintour. Tim Gunn Rocks. It looks like Miss Wintour reign is beginning to end.

  41. Amy says:

Actually you dont have to be a bitch to run a successful business. You have to be smart. And it’s not like Anna runs the business in Vogue.I think she has great fashion sense and she knows a lot about fashion, but that degrading people business is evil and sick.
No human being should think that any other human being is beneath them and isn’t worthy of eye contact. What is this the XII century???
And can I adopt Tim Gunn??

  42. Sorceressss says:

Team Gunn!!!! What a classy guy.

  43. itmustbeken says:

“And the message is, the gold rule is: accept responsibility for your own behavior.”

    We love you.

  44. Isa says:

I think there is a big difference between being a bitch like Gunn and a megabitch like Anna. Gunn has manners, Anna doesn’t. And those outragous demands are horrible no matter what the sex of the person making them.

  45. Liana says:

He’s doing a book signing in two weeks on Long Island… I might have to venture out to Huntington (can’t do the Tribeca signing the night before). Maybe I’ll hit up Tattoo Lou’s for another tat while I’m at it!!

  46. gen says:

I hate Anna Wintour….HATE….so TEAM GUNN all the way!!!!

  47. Ally says:

    Bitches Be Trippin’. …. LOL!

Honestly, with the Manolos… you spend $1000 on shoes you can’t walk in? This is seriously 10th century foot-binding: “binding the feet of well-born girls represented their freedom from manual labor and, at the same time, the ability of their husbands to afford wives who did not need to work, who existed solely to serve their men and direct household servants while performing no labor themselves”.

Besides the heels, she may also have been too weak from malnourishment, to walk. No wonder the magazine reads like it’s from the moon.

Bravo to Tim for speaking truth to power (btw, is Anna Tavi’s great-grandmother, there’s a family resemblance?), though methinks this may make things tricky for Michael Kors getting editorial pages.

  48. Shay says:

He outdid the ‘bitch’! and good on him!
Anna Wintour is probably livid. Goddamn hilarious.

  49. lynn deg says:

I don’t get the whole Anna Wintor thing. She’s not pretty, doesn’t seem to have particularly good fashion sense, her clothes don’t look drop dead fab- she really is a complete non-factor for 98 percent of the humans in the world. I’d love to meet her, so I could see what the fuss was about- or to tell her-”you- not special!” lol

  50. weslyn says:

just saw the book this weekend in B&N, but hadn’t picked it up yet

i was on the floor rollin’ when he cussed out gretchen and when the judges were discrediting her..she needs to be taken down a couple of notches..and does she not realize that people r going to see the ways she talks about the judges’ decisions/taste and want to work with her in the future? it’s like burning a bridge u haven’t even crossed yet

  51. Victoria says:

I read somewhere that Gunn was not paid anything for first season of Project Runway.

What is the fee for being on a reality show’s first season.

    CB should investigate this.

I was interviewed for a Ryan Seacrest reality show – no pay!

  52. V says:

Kathy Griffin talks some major smack on Anna in her standup special “allegedly” one of the finniest things she’s ever said really. It’s an older special, but still classic and awesome.

  53. R.C. says:

A.W. is a ridiculous woman. And the fashion industry is so stupid for giving her the power that she doesn’t deserve. She’s a control freak and doesn’t want anyone to know what a psycho she is. That’s why she threatens and blackmails.
Why is everyone so afraid of her?? She can’t have any power over anyone unless you give it to her. That’s why she’s all bent and butt hurt about T.G. not being afraid of her. Because he’s not intimidated by her antics.

  54. Jenny says:

Good on him. That insipid wart Wintour should be THROWN down five flights of stairs.

  55. Trepid says:

hahaa, funny man. Great publicity stunt.

  56. Gasier says:

I will never ever buy a Gunn’s book. He probably repeat the same few things again and again in it and nothing else like he does in the show!

  57. amelia8778 says:

If Anna Wintour had class, she would have owned up to it and made it into a fun story – maybe poke at herself a bit. A person surrounded by yes-men and unaccustomed to being criticized in any way to the point of demanding an apology from someone relating a true story – and a rather TAME one at that – it’s not like a sex scandal – well, that person lacks class and grace. She may have an eye for fashion, but she’s been surrounded by people giving into her for too long. It’s addicting and her reaction proves how removed from reality she really is.
