Kirsten Dunst not so sober after rehab

Kirsten Dunst has been keeping a low profile after her stint in rehab earlier this year. She bought a $3 million apartment in Tribeca and has been filming All Good Things in NY and Connecticut with Ryan Gosling. Kiki was seen out at lunch with Gosling, which set the tabloids’ tongues wagging, but it wasn’t that impressive to me since they were probably just taking a break from work. Other than that there hasn’t been much news about her, and you hope she’s doing well.

This week’s Star has exclusive photos and a story about how Kirsten was knocking back rum and cokes at a bar. She doesn’t look falling down wasted in the photos, but she does look a little out of it. Star’s armchair psychologists (it takes one to know one, I’ll admit) say that she’s not over her three year-old breakup with Jake Gyllenhaal and that she was flirting with different guys all night. They also say she was there with friends, so she was probably just talking to them:

Kirsten Dunst has fallen off the wagon – hard! The actress took a break from the Connecticut set of All Good Things to belatedly celebrate her 26th birthday at the New York City bar Bowery Electric, where an eyewitness saw her slamming a whiskey shot and knocking back rum and Cokes…

But [Kirsten's] hard work in rehab seemed to be the last thing on her mind and she drank and dance with a group of friends, including Ryan Michael Gentles, the manager of her ex Fabrizio Moretti’s band The Strokes.

Pals say part of Kirsten’s probably is her troubled love life. She’s still stinging over her 2005 split from Jake Gyllenhaal, and working side by side with short-lived flame Ryan Gosling on All Good Things isn’t helping. Now, sources say, Kirsten may be seeking solace in the bottle – and the arms of other men! “She got worse as the night went on,” says the witness. “She started out pretty chill, but hours later she was dancing and jumping around like a crazed animal!”

[From Star Magazine, print edition, May 26, 2008]

The article goes on to say that Kirsten was there with a guy with whom she “kept touching” and “snuggling with,” but that whenever he wasn’t around even for a moment she “indulged any guy who gave her attention” and “went up to several guys and started flirting with them hardcore.”

This is Star, so my money is on the fact that all they have are the photos of her talking with a guy at a bar looking pretty normal. A lot of people struggle with alcohol abuse in their mid to late 20s. It’s that weird in-between period when you’re supposed to take on more responsibility but you’re not quite sure what that entails yet, and you’re still kind of holding on to the wild past. Maybe it isn’t as bad as Star claims and Kirsten just indulged for her birthday. AA recommends that people abstain entirely, and you hope Kirsten knows when to say when. As long as she’s still able to do her job and isn’t driving or flashing the paps, that seems to be her business.

Thanks to Splash News for these photos of Kirsten on set yesterday.

Every second celeb goes to rehab at some point, whether it’s at their management’s/studio’s behest or for attention and publicity. It’s rarely because they’re bonefide addicts but more because their drinking and/or drug taking has gotten out of hand and just needs controlling. Just because Dunst’s been in rehab doesn’t mean she’s an alcoholic or that she’s sworn off drink for life and is in abstinent recovery. Or needs to be.

Nothing wrong with a blow-out every now and then. And sounds from this story that she was having what I’d describe as a good night out. Major pinch of salt re the hardcore flirting and excessive drinking.

Kirsten was not in rehab for alcohol or drugs. You people think you know her and you don’t. I do. She knows how to hold her liquor and rarely overdrinks and gets drunk. The one time she might, every six months or so, it’s huge news. Headlines scream, She feel of the wagon!” Show me any 26 year old who doesn’t get drunk every few months. And oh, my lord, a single 26 year old flirting! Call the press! Please.

You will never know her and never know her reason for “rehab”…but I can assure you it’s never been drugs or alcohol despite what you all want to make up and believe.

Hello????? Getting drunk once in awhile is not alcoholic behavior??? Let me see who is in denial now?? Kristen was in rehab because her drinking became unmanageable. I would like to introduce my daughter to “sammy.” My beautiful daughter drinks like an adult, doesn’t get drunk every “few months” and has no addiction problem whatsoever. Alcohol abuse is there, plan and simple. I hope Kristen “gets it” and has no need to belt a few to make the pain go away. There are healthier alternatives.

Alcohol abuse does NOT constitute alcohol addiction. And getting drunk once in a while is NOT alcoholic behaviour.

Jody, your comment makes no sense whatsoever. As for Dunst, she dumped Jake. She found him boring because he wasn’t into partying and she was. I really doubt she is smarting from their breakup. Although I won’t say it is impossible for her to be having regrets–many a gal has felt herself too young to “get serious”, or “bored” with a “good boy”, and then lived to regret dumping them when the bad boys, partying, and the whole Sex and the City lifestyle ends up being empty and unfulfilling. Many of my friends have gone this route. Hopefully, Kiki can get herself together and be happy. I want that for everyone…except Paris Hilton, K-Fed, and other useless herpes blisters….;)

Kristen is adorable. Who doesn’t love a spunky cheerleader? Lol, no but seriously…. I dont think she has a problem. On a scale of severity her drinking habits equal one college night. Its no big… and personally it sounded like she had fun on her birthday. So good for her!

Leave her alone. She’ll figure out what’s best for her life, not the public w/ no life. Remember that everyone makes mistakes; the key is actually learning from them. We all have issues and I’m sure she’s doing the best she can under present circumstances/state of mind. Judge not, lest ye be judged!

Kirsten, I am sorry to hear that you were depressed and the whole media has been yakking about you and wondering if you have a substance abuse problem. Truth is, if you had an addiction, this stint in rehab would not have been the first sign, DUH! Whatever the reason you sought help, GOOD for YOU! I hoped it helped you get back on your feet, if you were hurting. I will tell you that a great place for an awesome life changing retreat for depression, the LIFE blues, or finding yourself is in Sedona, Arizona if you’ve never been…the soul adventures there are life changing. Watsu at the Enchanted Resort and the energy in the canyon vortexes are more amazing than anything in the world! (Yes, here in the USA).

    Good Luck!

Kirsten Dunst is just like every other “sober” celeb. *sigh* when will these people finally understand that a drug addiction isn’t an excuse to get out of publicity troubles.
