  1. Scott F. says:

Regardless of his politics, I’m not sure he should be courting the celebs too hard. I may be the only one, but it seems to me that a lot of people are getting pretty sick of Hollywood trying to tell us who to vote for.

  2. Ron says:

Amen brother! I don’t need to know what Miley and Billy Ray or anyone else for that matter, think about the election.

  3. CeeJay says:

I am beyond happy that Obama has finally clinched this thing. I don’t expect an easy campaign going forward, but he’s pushed through severe attacks from the Clinton campaign and I think he’ll handle the Republicans as well. OBAMA FOR PRESIDENT!!!

  4. Diva says:

The beauty in this is that he is NOT courting them, they are courting him.

I don’t give a rip about celebrity endorsements of almost anything political. I’m just thrilled for it all just being what it is!

  5. geronimo says:

I’m really interested to see how Obama performs now as a nominee, as opposed to a candidate no longer bogged down by pointless and tiresome in-fighting. I want to see what he’s like with all his energies going into the real fight.

Nothing wrong with celebrity endorsement as long as Obama makes it very clear that their support and/or opinions don’t hold any more weight than those of the rest of the population.

Anyway, he’s never come across as someone that bothered by it anyway. The celebs seem to be the ones angling for a bit of HIS spotlight – a reverse star-fuck, as it were.

  6. lena says:

Agree with diva and geronimo…seems like the celebs are courting him

  7. McKenna says:

I disagree with the statement that celebrities have an impact. At least not a big one. I don’t think I’m the only person to say that I don’t give a rats a** who a celebrity wants me to vote for. I am an educated, intelligent person and I don’t need Oprah’s “endoresement” to decide who will be the best president for my country (and me).

  8. McKenna says:

And the celebrity endorsements or courters didn’t help either Gore or Kerry so I doubt the public cares too much about what celebrities think.

  9. George Tenet says:

Very few celebrities went to college to begin with, and even if they did they didn’t study anything about politics.

    Obama Nation=abomination.

  10. cc says:

Celebs are here to look pretty and entertain me. They have nothing to do with politics or my personal views and beliefs. Dance celebrity puppets, dance.

  11. Cowbell says:

Wow. Qwyneth is so profound. Let’s vote someone in just because their names sounds Arabic.

  12. Jen says:

Obama spoke in my State, which was a HUGE burn because that’s where the GOP is meeting. And the speech was shown on Fox. Double burn.

I don’t care who celebs indorse, because I know who I want.

  13. TheMan says:

LOL “Many of Hollywood’s elite have come out to endorse Obama.” Yes, George Lucas, Gwyneth, and Kate Walsh (who?) are definitely the best Hollywood has to offer. Not to mention a black woman endorsing a black nominee. There’s a shocker. LOL LOL LOL Give me a break.

  14. Scott F. says:

Just a quick question. Why is it such a huge burn that Obama spoke in Minn.? Isn’t the DNC being held in Colorado? I’m pretty sure McCain has spoken there a few times, and it was never a ‘HUGE burn’.

Like someone else said, in the last decade the celebs always endorsed a Dem for President, and they lost. Not seeing how losing is a huge boon for a campaign.

  15. Mairead says:

Well. Congrats to Obama. The man is certainly charismatic.

And I think what Diva and geronimo has said is interesting.

I’m sure that other people, outside of geronimo and myself remember the rise of “New Labour” under Tony Blair in 1997. Again celebs, especially musicians, were falling over themselves to support him. Look at them 10 years later… sobering.

  16. lola lola says:

What an exciting and historic time to have a black man and a woman as serious candidates for president. Let’s just hope this is the beginning of a new era for enlightenment and tolerance.

  17. geronimo says:

The difference as I see it is that Blair himself was a bit of a star-fucker (he really was, Mairead) and I don’t think Obama is at all. And it’s Obama’s position on it that counts, not the celebs lining up to claim him as their new best friend. He doesn’t seem the star-struck type.

  18. Hollz says:

These are just some of the MANY MANY people who are entertainers who have endorsed Obama’s Run. (others include *deep breath* Ben Affleck, Jessica Alba, Jen Aniston, Hallie Berry, George Clooney, Robert De Niro, Tom Hanks, Samuel L Jackson, Scarlett Johansson, Eddie Murphy, Brad Pitt, and Chris rock, to name a few

check wikipeida’s “list of Barack Obama Presidential Campaign endorsements” for more (and no bull shit about uuhh can’t trust wikipeida, it’s ALL sourced)

Also, are you trying to say that Oprah (the black woman mentioned) is voting for Obama based on the color of his skin and not because he is the best person for the job? or at least, thats why you think she is? (Kate Walsh Plays Dr. Addison Mongomery on Private Practice, and was on Grey’s Anatomy before as the same character.)

Sorry for the rant. That just really PISSED me off.

  19. lola says:

Blair would fuck a toad if they said they were influencial in toad land. He was always struck of Bush. Never seen an eloquent man with such a low self esteem. I am glad we are well rid of him.

For some reason I like Obama, he does not have the hang ups of a typical black man, maybe because his ancestors were not slaves. I was supporting Hilary but Obama is a nice one to lose too. I hope he wins presidency, it will be a major historical event with far reaching consequences.

  20. Diva says:

geronimo… I’m not sure why, but star-fucker is my favorite hyphenated word of the day! LOL
    😆

  21. Mairead says:

I totally agree with you Geronimo. I didn’t say it properly, but I meant that Tony Blair would serve as a cautionary tale for Obama, should he start to have his head turned by all the attention 😉

So in other words, you are saying that you are a democrat? You could have just said that. Good luck with your free global health insurance and your 11 hour hospital emergency room waits…

  23. Kenobi says:

    Hollz,

What a dick. Who really cares who is endorsing who? I don’t listen to Hollywood because they are so screwed up, but I also don’t listen to my friends telling me who they are voting for. You have a mind, choose for yourself!

  24. vdantev says:

I’m gazing into my crystal ball and seeing this thread getting shut down because people can’t play nice when it comes to their precious political ideas. 😳 😥

  25. countrybabe says:

Um Lola, typical black man. He is half white. And Oprah did foster him a bit. You could say she set him on his way.

  26. Amy says:

I don’t think celebrity endorsements make a huge difference. However, Oprah has some svengali-like hold on many women in the country. I think she could definitely help the guy out.

  27. SallySays says:

United States people…when can you last think of a time when we had lower fuel prices, a good economy and lower un-employment rates—-when Clinton was Pres.

Obama has zero experience in the White House—

He is a candidate for “change”–something we never had before…but we never had a female either, especially one who has been there before.

I wanted her to be the nominee, but that failed…but not by the popular vote—kinda like Kerry vs. Bush (we all know that the popular vote was for Kerry, but SOMEHOW Bush won the vote)–same thing, different time!

I won’t vote at all now…maybe if Clinton is on the ticket as Vice President…otherwise…screw this election, it’s just a long run in North Americas’ Effed up elections—It is seriously not truelly democratic anymore!!! The popular vote means nothing!!! It’s based on the electorial vote and the bullsh*t with the delegates that choose who is president…. not the actual American voter—I will never waste my time on voting again—It means nothing!!!!!!

  28. Kolby says:

Jennifer – so you are willing to vote for someone simply because he was a Prisoner of War in Vietnam? Are you at all interested in the policies of the two candidates? If you are happy with the sorry state of our nation today, happy with the price of gasoline, happy with not being able to take a vacation or your kids to the movies because it’s too damn expensive, and happy with being hated by the rest of the world, then, yeah, go ahead and vote for McCain. I’m sure you’ll continue to be happy.

I’ll be voting for Obama, for greater freedoms, for better jobs, for a beter education for my unborn child, for preserving human and civil rights, and for turning around this runaway train we call America. He is not a socialist, and he is not a Jew-hater or an asshat (at this point, the candidates, and not their pastors or next-door neighbors, are who we should be concerning ourselves with). If that’s all you’ve got, then you haven’t got much.

And, if there’s no other reason NOT to vote for McCain, there’s always this: If elected, this man will potentially have the opportunity to appoint a couple of Supreme Court justices. Now, I don’t know if you value the freedoom that Roe V. Wade afforded the women of this nation, but if you don’t, then McCain’s your guy.

  29. sue mac says:

Hah!!!! Jimmy Carter reference-took the words right out of my mouth.Well meaning very intelligent man who should have been the head of the United Nations, not president of the united states. What a choice and I did not think the democrats could screw this up.Wow was I wrong.Need to get paid in euros………….yeah.

  30. Scott F. says:

Can some people be any more retarded? God…

“kinda like Kerry vs. Bush (we all know that the popular vote was for Kerry, but SOMEHOW Bush won the vote)–same thing, different time!”

    Republican Bush
    (Incumbent)
    62,040,606 51% 286

    Democratic Kerry
    59,028,109 48% 252

That’s a 3 million vote victory in the popular vote in 2004. Get a clue.

Oh, and if I hear one more Democrat bitch about gas prices. Where the fuck was that attitude when we wanted to drill in that arctic shithole called ANWR? Remember that one? The pipeline would already be finished and pumping if the dems hadn’t blocked it.

Oh, and who spearheaded the environmental regulations that have kept us from building new refineries? Democrats. Now, regardless how much crude we pump in, we can’t produce any more actual gasoline a day than we are right now. Economics 101 question: what happens when demand continues to rise, but production has hit a plateau? Good class, the price skyrockets!

Oh, and they’re running at 97-100% capacity at ALL times just to meet demand, which means they can’t shut the equipment down for maintenance as often, which is why we’ve seen so many price spikes when refineries have major accidents and it hurts production. Really great idea, that.

Not to mention the fact that nearly 1/3rd of the price of gas is tax, and when the hell has a Democrat ever met a tax he didn’t like? They’ve been trying to nix the only tax cut we’ve had in 20 years since it’s inception.

I’m not even a Republican, I’m a Libertarian – but if you’re gonna start blaming someone for the cost at the pump, you’d better start looking beyond Republicans. They’ve supposedly been spilling ‘blood for your oil’ for the last five years. Can’t have it both ways.

  31. SallySays says:

And —F–U–C–K John McCain– never be president!!

That would be the first point of the end of the world if it happened (it won’t if there is a god!!!)

  32. SallySays says:

Scott I understand supply and demand.

why are so many CEO’s in places like OPEC run by Chemical Engineers?–because we’re bad ass–thats why!!

  33. SallySays says:

    LOL—my story probably is!

  34. headache says:

“. . . Obama, he does not have the hang ups of a typical black man, maybe because his ancestors were not slaves.”

    oh.my.GAWD!!!!

I’ve seen ALOT of bs on this site but that has the be the singularly most ignorant thing ANYONE has said on this site.

I mean seriously, some one could come on right now and say that Paris Hilton will make an amazing mother and the Rumer Willis will win an oscar someday and it would not match this sheer idiocy of that statement. I don’t even think I’ve heard anything that bad said by a brangeloonie or an aniston hag.

  35. DD says:

Not that I don’t like Obama, but having these celebrities talk about him like he is God is ridiculous. I think that is the reason why I grow to dislike him more and more, because he hasn’t actually done anything but he’s being touted like a God. It’s annoying and everytime a celebrity I have no respect for endorses him I just like him less and less. I know that it is wrong to feel that way but I can’t help it. Let’s hope he can deliver on everyone’s hopes.

… I also think that celebrities should keep their mouth’s shut when it comes to politics, because they may influence people like me to make bad choices based on the way I feel about them.

  36. Diva says:

This is, with few exceptions, the most ridiculous and embarrassing thread I’ve ever had the displeasure of following.

I will never cease to be amazed at the ignorance and stupidity (and yes, they are two different things) what passes as reasonable adults allow themselves to stew in.

Sad, very sad… and embarrassing as an American.

And, I know it’s a moot point, DD, but if you don’t further support a candidate because of celebrity endorsement, logically you can’t support them less because of celebrity endorsement.

  37. geronimo says:

Can I just add depressing to that, Diva?

You’ve now got two really substantial presidential possibilities yet some of you sound like you really really deserved that Bush administration.

On BBC Question time last night, the panelists – 5 people across three political parties, a human rights worker and a seasoned journalist – were overwhelmingly enthusiastic about both Omaba and McCain. One actually said, I envy America at this moment. I wish it was us.

Have a bit of gratitude for the chance you’ve been given to finally get someone capable and compassionate and intelligent and decent into the White House.

  38. geronimo says:

And another thing. Yes, Obama is black, yes, it is highly significant historically, yes, he represents a degree of idealism that puts huge pressure on him, yes, he’s riding on people’s dreams. But he’s also a serious, grounded, forward-thinking, highly intelligent individual, and that’s why he is where is is at this moment. On merit.

Can you blame celebrities for wanting to endorse him and jump on his bandwagon?

  39. Celebitchy says:

The reason threads get shut down is because I have to spend time moderating the really ridiculous over the top comments and that takes away from the time I have to write.

So yes, this thread is getting shut down.

I don’t care who you want to vote for, just don’t attack each other or make outlandish personal attacks on the candidates.

Some of these comments are so stupid I’m amazed.

Some comments were deleted due to multiple abuse reports. Some of the stupid ones remain obviously.
