Regardless of his politics, I’m not sure he should be courting the celebs too hard. I may be the only one, but it seems to me that a lot of people are getting pretty sick of Hollywood trying to tell us who to vote for.
Amen brother! I don’t need to know what Miley and Billy Ray or anyone else for that matter, think about the election.
I am beyond happy that Obama has finally clinched this thing. I don’t expect an easy campaign going forward, but he’s pushed through severe attacks from the Clinton campaign and I think he’ll handle the Republicans as well. OBAMA FOR PRESIDENT!!!
The beauty in this is that he is NOT courting them, they are courting him.
I don’t give a rip about celebrity endorsements of almost anything political. I’m just thrilled for it all just being what it is!
I’m really interested to see how Obama performs now as a nominee, as opposed to a candidate no longer bogged down by pointless and tiresome in-fighting. I want to see what he’s like with all his energies going into the real fight.
Nothing wrong with celebrity endorsement as long as Obama makes it very clear that their support and/or opinions don’t hold any more weight than those of the rest of the population.
Anyway, he’s never come across as someone that bothered by it anyway. The celebs seem to be the ones angling for a bit of HIS spotlight – a reverse star-fuck, as it were.

I disagree with the statement that celebrities have an impact. At least not a big one. I don’t think I’m the only person to say that I don’t give a rats a** who a celebrity wants me to vote for. I am an educated, intelligent person and I don’t need Oprah’s “endoresement” to decide who will be the best president for my country (and me).
And the celebrity endorsements or courters didn’t help either Gore or Kerry so I doubt the public cares too much about what celebrities think.
Very few celebrities went to college to begin with, and even if they did they didn’t study anything about politics.

Obama spoke in my State, which was a HUGE burn because that’s where the GOP is meeting. And the speech was shown on Fox. Double burn.

Just a quick question. Why is it such a huge burn that Obama spoke in Minn.? Isn’t the DNC being held in Colorado? I’m pretty sure McCain has spoken there a few times, and it was never a ‘HUGE burn’.
Like someone else said, in the last decade the celebs always endorsed a Dem for President, and they lost. Not seeing how losing is a huge boon for a campaign.

I’m sure that other people, outside of geronimo and myself remember the rise of “New Labour” under Tony Blair in 1997. Again celebs, especially musicians, were falling over themselves to support him. Look at them 10 years later… sobering.
What an exciting and historic time to have a black man and a woman as serious candidates for president. Let’s just hope this is the beginning of a new era for enlightenment and tolerance.
The difference as I see it is that Blair himself was a bit of a star-fucker (he really was, Mairead) and I don’t think Obama is at all. And it’s Obama’s position on it that counts, not the celebs lining up to claim him as their new best friend. He doesn’t seem the star-struck type.

For some reason I like Obama, he does not have the hang ups of a typical black man, maybe because his ancestors were not slaves. I was supporting Hilary but Obama is a nice one to lose too. I hope he wins presidency, it will be a major historical event with far reaching consequences.

I don’t think celebrity endorsements make a huge difference. However, Oprah has some svengali-like hold on many women in the country. I think she could definitely help the guy out.

He is a candidate for “change”–something we never had before…but we never had a female either, especially one who has been there before.

I’ll be voting for Obama, for greater freedoms, for better jobs, for a beter education for my unborn child, for preserving human and civil rights, and for turning around this runaway train we call America. If that’s all you’ve got, then you haven’t got much.
And, if there’s no other reason NOT to vote for McCain, there’s always this: If elected, this man will potentially have the opportunity to appoint a couple of Supreme Court justices. Oh, and if I hear one more Democrat bitch about gas prices. Where the fuck was that attitude when we wanted to drill in that arctic shithole called ANWR? Remember that one? The pipeline would already be finished and pumping if the dems hadn’t blocked it.
Oh, and who spearheaded the environmental regulations that have kept us from building new refineries? Democrats. Now, regardless how much crude we pump in, we can’t produce any more actual gasoline a day than we are right now. Economics 101 question: what happens when demand continues to rise, but production has hit a plateau? Good class, the price skyrockets!
Oh, and they’re running at 97-100% capacity at ALL times just to meet demand, which means they can’t shut the equipment down for maintenance as often, which is why we’ve seen so many price spikes when refineries have major accidents and it hurts production. Really great idea, that.
Not to mention the fact that nearly 1/3rd of the price of gas is tax, and when the hell has a Democrat ever met a tax he didn’t like? They’ve been trying to nix the only tax cut we’ve had in 20 years since it’s inception.
I’m not even a Republican, I’m a Libertarian – but if you’re gonna start blaming someone for the cost at the pump, you’d better start looking beyond Republicans. They’ve supposedly been spilling ‘blood for your oil’ for the last five years. Can’t have it both ways.

I’ve seen ALOT of bs on this site but that has the be the singularly most ignorant thing ANYONE has said on this site.
I mean seriously, some one could come on right now and say that Paris Hilton will make an amazing mother and the Rumer Willis will win an oscar someday and it would not match this sheer idiocy of that statement. I don’t even think I’ve heard anything that bad said by a brangeloonie or an aniston hag.
Not that I don’t like Obama, but having these celebrities talk about him like he is God is ridiculous. I think that is the reason why I grow to dislike him more and more, because he hasn’t actually done anything but he’s being touted like a God. It’s annoying and everytime a celebrity I have no respect for endorses him I just like him less and less. I know that it is wrong to feel that way but I can’t help it. Let’s hope he can deliver on everyone’s hopes.

You’ve now got two really substantial presidential possibilities yet some of you sound like you really really deserved that Bush administration.
On BBC Question time last night, the panelists – 5 people across three political parties, a human rights worker and a seasoned journalist – were overwhelmingly enthusiastic about both Omaba and McCain. One actually said, I envy America at this moment. I wish it was us.
Have a bit of gratitude for the chance you’ve been given to finally get someone capable and compassionate and intelligent and decent into the White House.
And another thing. Yes, Obama is black, yes, it is highly significant historically, yes, he represents a degree of idealism that puts huge pressure on him, yes, he’s riding on people’s dreams. But he’s also a serious, grounded, forward-thinking, highly intelligent individual, and that’s why he is where is is at this moment. On merit.
Can you blame celebrities for wanting to endorse him and jump on his bandwagon?
