Angelina Jolie talks about her “year off” statement, gives another candid interview

Angelina Jolie has a new interview with MTV news, during which she repeats an earlier claim about how she enjoys shooting and isn’t afraid to protect her family with firearms. The pregnant mother of four is promoting her action film with James McAvoy, Wanted, in which she play an assassin. It’s out in the US and the UK on June 27.

Angelina jokes that she’d prefer to “roll around” with her boyfriend, Brad Pitt, instead of her co-star McAvoy when she’s asked specifically about it. She talks about her tattoos and her character’s tattoos in the film, some of which are for her children. She says she’ll continue to get tattoos in real life too.

Who’s better to roll around with: McAvoy or Pitt?

“Well, you know Brad was … [Laughs] I’ll always prefer rolling around on the floor with him than any other man. You know, in general,” she tells MTV News in a new interview.

When told that “there is no one sexier with a gun than Angelina Jolie,” the actress, 33, replied, “Wow. I’ll take it. I like it.”

What’s so sexy about gunplay?

“I mean, obviously, there’s a part of me that takes the world of violence and death very seriously,” she said. “However, when it comes to protection or when it comes to just the skill of shooting … I’ve gone to the range with sniper rifles and things like that. Brad and I both like it a lot. That is something we have in common.”

In the film, she shows off some new tattoos β€” but she said not all of them are real. (See other celeb tattoos.)

“We added a bunch. I had ‘toil’ and ‘tears’ based on [Winston] Churchill’s speech,” she said. “I had binary codes that are actually my kids’ initials.”

(As for her real ink, she said, “I have ‘strength of will’ in four different languages. ‘Know your rights’ in different languages. It’s things like that. Very few people pick up on it, but it was [something I did] for me.”)

Does Jolie β€” who is generating Oscar buzz for Changeling β€” see more action films in her future?

“I think there’s always going to be a side of me … you know, as long as I can,” she said. “Harrison [Ford] is doing it, and he’s doing it well. It looks like I’ve got some more time.”

Making movies, she added, is “not the thing you love the most. I love being a mom and I do love traveling and the work I get to do with children in the field and with refugees.

“Brad and I take turns working,” she went on. “So instead of it being, ‘I get to work next,’ it’s, ‘You have to work next, because it’s your turn. I’m staying home with the kids.'”

[From US Weekly]

On her year off
She said that she’s not working as much as it seems, because Kung Fu Panda took four days to shoot and she brought Maddox with her. She said they would sit on the floor and “you can come in your pajamas” so it’s “not really hard work.” Angelina noted that it took four months to shoot both Wanted and The Changeling and “it’s not that much in a year.”

She said that working isn’t “the thing you love the most,” and that “I love being a mom, and I do love traveling, and I love the work I get to do with children in the field, and with refugees, so, Brad and I are often… We take turns working, so instead of it being ‘I get to work next,’ it’s ‘You have to work next… it’s your turn. I’m staying home with the kids.'”

When asked about “Atlas Shrugged,” she said that’s one of those “Once in a lifetime films,” that she will most likely do at some point but that “nobody was attached to direct.” She said she’s not sure what is happening with a sequel to “Sin City,” but expressed admiration for the director.

Angelina chose to do Wanted because she was looking for a “physical film” after all the emotional films she was involved with, like Mighty Heart, and The Changeling, and after losing someone close to her. She doesn’t say it was her mom, but she’s obviously talking about her.

As we said before in our coverage of her Entertainment Weekly interview, Angelina will tell you about her life. She may also tell you about her plans, and if they don’t work out and you call her on it, she’ll explain herself without getting defensive.

  7. I choose me says:

I’m so going to see Wanted as soon as it comes out in my neck of the woods. Looks like a cool movie and I’m jonesing for a good shoot em up, blow em up, high octane film.

  8. Scott F. says:

This movie is going to kick ass. I’ve liked MCavoy since I saw him years ago in Sci-Fi Channel’s Children of Dune. Probably the only actor his age that could have pulled off such a demanding and intellectual part.

I always said Angie looked like she knew what she was doing with a firearm, where confidence is always sexy. It’s heartening to see that, since it’s rare for a woman in Hollywood to look comfortable with a gun. Bestill this Marine’s beating heart. πŸ˜‰

  9. someone says:

I wouldn’t go see one of her movies, if they let me in for free, she hates America, chooses to have her kids in another country, adopts from other countries, so shes not getting any of my money.

  10. Syko says:

Oh, for God’s sake. How do you know she hates America? Can you please try to say something just a little more stupid?

  11. Bodhi says:

Man, adopting kids from another country :shakeshead: What a cow…

And yes, I am aware of the “controversy” people create about the issue

  12. mamalicious says:

Hey someone, I’m sure she doesn’t want your money anyway if that’s how you see the world. Or have you actually ever seen the world, you know, Planet Earth, the place where we ALL live? Do you think every country outside the US is some imaginary enemy that needs to be boycotted? I pity you

  13. someone else says:

Wanted will do well the first week or two, but flop after that and it won’t be a huge summer block buster compared to other movies that have recently been released. Movie doesn’t look that fascinating to me and i am a huge morgan freeman fan.

  14. vanja says:

    everythin is beautiful…. πŸ˜€
she has great sex life 😯
brad is the only men in her life….
    commmmmmon

  15. Mairead says:

Ooooh I love James McAvoy.

  16. Kaiser/ Hippacrat says:

That one comment is almost enough for me to change my name to Kaiser/ Hippocrat/ Lier. πŸ™‚

Syko, Bodhi – shhh… don’t upset the jingoistic douche. How Unamerican, girls.

I hear that some people are even BORN outside of America. Assholes. πŸ™

  17. Mairead says:

Well, they have to breed children for Angelina to adopt somewhere Kaiser… like.. GAWD!!! πŸ™„ πŸ™„ πŸ˜‰ πŸ™„ Just don’t be giving them any money. πŸ˜›

I just reread the article (not interested in listening to people wittering on about shooting so i skimmed most of it. It’s a skill, but it’s such a contentious issue).
But anyway, am I the only person in which the idea of Brad Pitt faffing about with guns fills with quiet dread?

  18. countrybabe says:

She doesn’t want your money, Duh why is is doing interviews for the film. For people to come and see it. They are already played out over here. You can see she’s only done like two interviews and both from another country.

  19. Syko says:

People are born outside America? Well, they must be inferior! God, I hate that sort of attitude. We’re all people, we bleed red blood, we put on our pants one leg at a time, we eat, sleep, defecate, have sex (well, some of us – been kinda slow for me lately πŸ˜› ) – all humans. Even the Iraqis and Chinese.

Angelina was interviewed from outside the US (surprises me they even have microphones) because she is rather heavily pregnant with twins. A little past being able to jet set over here to talk to someone who’ll publish what she says so that the haters can pick it apart. And if she wants to have each of her kids born in a different country (a little hard to imagine doing that with twins, although I bet she would manage it if she wanted), then that is her business and Brad’s business and nobody else’s. France is hardly a third world country, in many ways they surpass the U.S.

Luckily for her, all the nasty comments don’t upset her at all.

  20. Cari says:

Well put, Syko and Bodhi. I always like to read your comments. They’re well-expressed and actually, they mimic my own thoughts.

Just wanted to say that. πŸ™‚

Carry on, haters of the world!

  21. Syko says:

    Thanks, Cari. πŸ˜€

  22. Lenitha says:

Angelina is super cool and a great person, but her increasing tattoo collection is immature and impulsive.

    And junky/trashy looking!

Draw on the wall, not your body. Hang your art on the wall, so you can take it down when you are tired of looking at it and want something new…..

    Tattoos are trashy.

Did Jesus have tattoos? No! The bible tells us to not desecrate our body, our temple. That means lay off the tattoos! Not necessarily a sin, but just junking up what God gave you ( your body).

  23. Diamond Dog says:

Well yes, it’s all here. Sex with Brad, how she likes guns, her tattoos [yuk BTW], her work with children ‘in the field’, refugees, loving being a mom. It’s always all about her and how she’s all that. Isn’t she supposed to be publicizing the damn movie? And yeah, a year off from Angelina and her private life would have been wonderful. I hope these two never bitch about their lack of privacy.

  24. Nan says:

She would be so gorgeous if only her face & head weren’t so big & masculine.

  25. lola says:

Nasty comments don’t upset her. So I am gonna be nasty as usual. Who gave such a sicko the right to have kids. I feel for her bio kids.

Wanted like all her movies will suck at the box office. It will draw the crowd that likes whatever action and went to see Rambo4 but for the rest, we have had enough of her.

She thinks she can work with 6 kids at home? She has something else coming. She will not evenbe able to do movies in her PJs.

I like Morgan Freeman and McVoy but not enough to put myself through an ordeal like this woman. I have to throw up everytime I read her story. I don’t think I could survive a whole 5 minutes of her.

  26. lola says:

    Lenithat,

I agree with you about Tattoos, not the Jesus bit, but it is getting immature. As a sadist, she likes the pain. I guess seeing suffering people in war torn regions gives her a kick. Explains why she suddenly got into it.

Shiloh has the humongous head too. Hopefully the veins skip her.

In the video, she looks like her brother googly eyes.

  27. Nan says:

Lo, you’re right but the losers on D*****d called. They want you back over there.

  28. drm says:

I love Angelina, always have. She’s fantastic…grounded, funny, real. And tatts aren’t trashy. WHY do people bring Jesus into everything? Girl Jesus doesn’t CARE about your tattoos or anyone elses yeah? He’s got other shit on his mind rather than someone’s ink…I’m 42 and I’m about to get number 3 and I’ll keep going. The tatts change as you get older is all… its about what it means to you…its a personal story… when you live in Aotearoa (New Zealand) tatts are very common…and no my tatts haven’t hampered my career or my love life… 😈

  29. geronimo says:

“And if she wants to have each of her kids born in a different country (a little hard to imagine doing that with twins, although I bet she would manage it if she wanted)…”

She could tho’, Syko. France is borderd by 6 other countries. If she picked a strategic border location, she could have a little French baby and (allowing for a 10 minute gap and a burning desire for headlines, which we know is her raison d’etre) a little Spanish, Italian, Swiss, German, Luxembourgian or Belgian baby.

  30. Kaiser/ Hippacrat says:

Lola – all babies have big heads, not just your mortal enemy, the 2-year-old Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt.

Lenitha- Did Jesus comment on Celebitchy? NO. So STFU about tats and Jeebus.

  31. Bodhi says:

Did Jesus have tattoos? No! The bible tells us to not desecrate our body, our temple. That means lay off the tattoos!

Um, what? Tattoos are a form of personal expression. If you don’t like them, than don’t get one! Oh & FYI Jesus never said anything about tattoos. Its Leviticus 19:28. Of course Jesus lived under Jewish law (seeing as how he was a Jew) but Christians aren’t required to do so.

And she didn’t “suddenly” become interested in aiding those in need in war torn regions. That myth was busted long long ago…

    πŸ˜€ and thanks everybody!

  32. Indie says:

If there should ever be a study on human behavior, internet will be a good place to start for all the sickos that hide behind their computers. It is one thing not to like a celebrity and I can’t stand a whole lot of them, but to actually make up lies to justify the hatred is beyond the pale.

I like Angelina and I like her kickass personality and she is not trying to be loved by the mini van majority obviously. I will like to see the like of Lola say to her face the nonsense she spews on the blogs, I will pay big money to watch Angelina kick your wussy ass.

Celebitchy- you are growing on me. I had you pegged as just another one of those bitchy bloggers, but I have finally read some of your blog entries on other celebrities and you are actually fair.

  33. Indie says:

“Did Jesus comment on Celebitchy? NO. So STFU about tats and Jeebus.”

OMG- Kaiser, that cracked me up. But of course Jesus said gossip was fine especially if you are standing in judgement of other, the bible totally supports being judgemental.

  34. Jaundice Machine says:

There’s talk about production of Aynn Rand’s “Atlas Shrugged”?
    Sweet.

  35. peach says:

She shouldn’t always Kiss and tell so much!

  36. Jacqueline says:

Angelina – please carry on being just the way you are – open and humanitarian; I’m sure you are only too aware that that road was never going to be easy . . . .
After all, you guys, it’s negative criticisms, prejudices and arrogance that has caused so many wars, and sadly seems the way of cholice for many.
Angelina & Brad for the White House, yeh!!!! Then we might even get a stab at world peace.
And, the Senate? well, the children of course- they’ve already got more sense than most of the existing anyway.
