Amy Winehouse still hospitalized

Amy Winehouse fainted on Monday after signing some autographs at her London home. Her father took her to the hospital, where she’s luckily been ever since. Everyone’s acting like Amy has some mysterious condition – running lots of tests and talking in (internet) whispered voices. You know what illness Winehouse is suffering from? Drugs. I know the next logical smart ass question is “Where’d you get your medical degree JayBird?” From the University of Duh. It was a really rigorous program.

Amy Winehouse’s fainting spell has her doctors stumped. The “Rehab” chanteuse has been hospitalized since blacking out Monday, and doctors at the London facility where she’s being treated are conducting further tests, her rep said today, to get to the bottom of what ails her before she resumes performing later this month.

Winehouse’s father, Mitch, who drove his daughter to the clinic, told London’s Telegraph that his daughter will remain hospitalized “as long as possible” until her physicians determine a proper diagnosis.

“Amy is doing fine,” he added.

Winehouse’s camp denied a report by the Sun tabloid she was suffering from an irregular heartbeat and that she was ordered by doctors to clean up her act and quit drugs or risk dying.

Something tells me living as hard as Amy Winehouse does can really shorten your life expectancy. At first I assumed she’d overdosed, but perhaps she’s caused herself some serious damage, and that’s what’s caused her to faint. You simply can’t expect that you can snort and shoot everything that doesn’t walk and your body will thank you for it.

Here’s Amy with her dad Mitch leaving her home to go to ‘The Clinic’ in London on Monday. Images thanks to Splash.

  1. Y’know, I want Winehouse to get better, I really do. All this Bond-like and secret diagnoses is bull. Amy’s pimps and pushers (ie., management and record company) want to drag her skinny corpse-like body onto the Mandela and Glastonbury concerts. These are huge money-makers.

All this cloke and dagger is too keep the Amy Winehouse fans and the aforementioned concert promoters/people from having the vapors by keeping the truth hidden. Just plain ol’ fainting doesn’t keep one in the hospital for 3-4 days. Ice pops, crack, heroin, booze and other naughtiness doesn’t do a body good. Bravo, JayBird!

I just hope Mr. Winehouse grows a couple and looks out for the best interest of his daughter, instead of dollars/pounds.

  2. I hope she gets well. She is such a talent, and if she overcomes this she will be in a position to create music as true and honest as she has in the past. If she gives up and lets illness defeat, her it will all have been a waste. I hope she tries.

  3. The only way that she is going to get well is if she decides for herself that that is what she wants. An extended hospital stay, hopeful parents and friends, a health scare, those are not going to get her straight unless SHE wants to get that way. I fear that she will succumb to her addictions before she conquers the demons of them. Sad, but we will see. Hope for the best, expect the worst.

  5. If I had her singing voice I would not waste it hanging out with these creepy looking bottom feeders.

You made a good point JayBird..she does hard drugs but just the amount of drinking she does alone can cause serious liver damage. Sounds like she is run down but I guess no one knows the extent (i.e. what exactly is wrong) yet. I know that once the liver is damaged, you can’t undo any of it. The doctors will simply tell you to stop drinking. Period. Sadly I can’t see this ending well. Seems like so much going on in her life she is going to need a total detox including removing all of her current friends and acquaintances.

  9. I think that Amy does want to get better, and has shown that she can get better with the proper motivation in place (remember how great she looked on the Grammys?), but she’s surrounded by enablers, and Blake Incarcerated is probably robbing her blind, and all that stress caused her to relapse. I was studying in London when her first album came out, and met her briefly after one of her shows. She was so unbelievably sweet and funny, and if you think she’s talented while she’s fucked up, you should see her when she’s sober! I really hope she gets her life back in order so that everyone can see that she’s not just a crackhead.

  10. I agree with Mandy. She’s more than just a crack-whore, but it’s easy to forget that sometimes. Like Britney she needs to shed the negative influences including that waste of human DNA she calls her husband.

I’d also like to enrol at the University of Duh next semester. Do you have a place for me Jaybird?…

  14. Not funny, most of you. I see you never were held by the nuts w/an addiction. So easy to judge, isn’t it? I think her Dad did the right thing to ‘pretend’ there could of been another problem to get her in the hands of professionals. Let’s all pray this one gets it together & has the help of family. I really wanna see her beat this & secretly or not, so do you. You all care about Swayze but care about her, too.

  15. Well if it’s TB (and she’s certainly in the high-risk category), then it’ll keep her in hospital for a bit and out of harm’s way. And maybe force her to take her health seriously.

Mandy, love your comments on Amy. It’s why some of us refuse to give up on the girl and why, despite everything, there’s still huge goodwill around for her. It’s not just her talent we’re defending, it’s the sharp, droll, funny, sweet girl that she was and still is/can be once she gets over her demons.

    ToughIsNotEnough:

Amy’s appearance matches what Africans call “the slims.” The disease cuts off appetite, results in digestion problems, and reduces immune system effectiveness against most diseases. Amy’s staph infection in March was quite unusual. London does have hot water and bath tubs, right ? Now, its something like TB or dengue that took several weeks to develop. And all the public hears ??? Paid “managers” out front lying that its “fainting.” If she does die, these “managers” should be considered for negligent homicide charges. Who comes out ahead for money on her death ?
