Paris Hilton donates to hospital; promptly puts out press release

Once every 123,383,384 days Paris Hilton thinks about someone besides herself. Okay I know the math doesn’t really work out there, but you get my point. It’s a damn rare occasion. Paris recently donated some cash to Childrens Hospital Los Angeles – I know! Shocking, right? The once-in-a-lifetime occasion of Paris being kind and thinking about other people has finally come! Well, no. Because the first thing she did after that was issue a glowing press release.

“I am so happy and fortunate to announce my support for Childrens Hospital Los Angeles,” Hilton said in a statement. “The children I have met through my [involvement] at Childrens Hospital have truly touched my heart.”

The 27-year-old celebutante started volunteering at the hospital following her release from jail after serving 23 days for DUI. Proceeds from the August launch of her eponymous clothing line at the West Hollywood boutique Kitson also went to the kids, some of whom were at the party to fete the arrival of Hilton’s collection of relatively affordable casual wear.

“The fabulous new hospital facilities at Childrens Hospital Los Angeles will provide a caring, healing environment for children and their families for many years to come,” she continued, “and I am proud to make a donation and lend my name to the fundraising effort to help children who are facing terribly serious illnesses.”

[From E! News]

Yeah, so her involvement was court ordered. Obviously it wasn’t court ordered that Paris donate money, but I’m guessing she probably hasn’t done a whole lot with the hospital from the time her forced volunteer work ended and the time she gave them some cash.

E! gloriously notes that philanthropy runs in Paris’ genes. Her grandfather Barron Hilton was named as the No. 1 giver of 2007 by the Chronicle of Philanthropy. His father, Hilton founder Conrad, left the bulk of his estate to the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation (which was later contested). Barron has publicly stated that 97 percent of his multibillion dollars will go to the foundation – with the remaining three percent being divvied up by his eight children and many, many grandchildren, of which Paris is one.

Something tells me Paris’ good deed has less to do with her the more dignified members of her family and their long history of philanthropy, and more to do with the person she cares most about: Paris Hilton.

Here’s Paris running errands in Sunset Plaza in Los Angeles yesterday. Don’t you sashay around like this on your way to pick up some clothes? Images thanks to WENN.

  1. Geez, Brangelina makes a donation and PR announcement about said donation and they are heaped accolades for their generosity. I don’t stick up for Paris at all and think she is a worthless piece of crap - but I don’t understand the double standard here…after all, Paris just took a page out of Brangelina’s PR playbook.

  2. I said basically the same thing on the SJP post, but is it bad I like that dress?

  3. well at least she did something. Even if it was a self serving act, its better than nothing.

  4. Now that’s a publicity ho

  5. Actually, the announcement about the Jolie-Pitt donation did not come from Brad and Angelina. It came from the organizations that benefited. Brad and Angelina then gave one sentence statements never using the pronoun “I”.

But be that as it may, it is better to make some contribution even if it is court ordered and later than she promised. I guess she is trying, so she gets some benefit of the doubt.

  6. Why is the stupid cow always on the phone? It’s a habit as bad as smoking nowadays.

Very, very tacky, Paris. And unattractive. :x

  7. I’m sure this dumb skank’s beleaguered publicist told her to either cough up some cash for charity, or her already dismal public image will sink even lower. (If that’s even possible.)

Glad the kids will benefit, for sure, but I’m still of the opinion that Paris is a useless ho.

  8. Kaiser/ Hippacrat:

It’s always good to give to charity. As for the Brange comparison - nothing AJ & BP ever gave came at the tail end of a court-order.

  9. The fact that she actually gave some money is wonderful. But people do this wonderful act of charity every day. The fact that Hilton made sure that her PR people distributed a press release before the ink on the check was dry is nauseating — and Hilton right down to the bone.

  10. at least she did it…

stop hating on this girl..she didn’t start a war and she isn’t the reason the gas prices are through the freakin roof.

when i was her age all i wanted to do was party and i don’t see a damn thing wrong with that…

    GO PARIS!

  11. To Lanette –

It is truly ugly to twist disrespect into hatred. I feel sorry for you.

As for Paris? She has come out with comments, herself, such as “cottage cheese in a garbage,” that are truly hateful and nasty. I’m with those who truly believe that this is more about publicity than altruism. The fact that she had her publicist release a statement within a heartbeat of the donaton speaks volumes about her.

I know people who do things like this all the time, but would be mortified about any publicity or notoriety. But that’s the difference between real class, and opportunism.

  12. Looks like she got some kind of Zellwegger-esque facial treatment.

  13. It would have been a nice gesture…had she NOT been ordered to reform…and NOT made an announcement about doing it.

Parasite is a boil on the ass of humanity. Pop her head.

  14. Codzilla said most of it for me, but might I add, I will forever have emblazened in my mind the lovely personage and carriage of Luke Russert at his father’s wake. He is younger than Paris and has just lost his father but he has more couth, spirit, good will, brains and forthrightness than Paris will ever have in a life time. Paris is a waste of air at this point and ditto on the fact that her publicist must be trying to whip her back into shape, as in trying to stave off the private and public snickering. Good luck on that one!

  15. Why is her chin wet? Wait, don’t answer that.

  16. ^ It’s not wet, just oily. I’m sure those monstrous sunglasses come in handy when her ten makeup artists have a day off.

  17. Comparing Hilton to Angelina Jolie? Are people just plain nuts? Jolie dedicates much of her life and her resources to those in need. All Hilton did was spend a day in the cancer ward. Paris also gives a small percentage of the net profits of clothing sales other people spend their money on. This is clothing that is designed and created by manufacturers that Paris leases the Hilton name to. Ever the ultimate shill, Hilton has created and designed nothing.

Jolie gives millions of her own money (which she earned through her own hard work and talent) to needy causes all over the world, every year. To compare these two is a gross insult to Ms. Jolie.

  18. Hey everybody, look what the orange-colored whore who embarrasses her family name did !!

  19. I agree she is taking her cue from the Brangelina bible. Her PR people told her, ‘look at Brangelina, they get a lot of accolades even when their donation is made right before a movie and cleaverly announced by Reuters’. These celebs are becoming damned too obvious.

  20. PH had no choice but to finally make some kind of serious effort charity-wise. She’s been vilified for not honoring her promises…the worst PR person in the world would have told her to just write a check already, and they’ll take care of the press announcement. A 9-year old can see through this.

  21. Well, at least some of the unfeasibly-large paypacket for being inexplicably famous and an utterly tedious twit is going to some good.

  22. Why is she so greasy here??

  23. She’s just had a spray tan, and also got it all over her dress!

  24. found a video of paris. its basically amazing :

    Paris Hilton Audition Tape

  25. She is pure Vomit!! I cannot stand what she stands for and the messages she puts out in the public!! This HO should be doing this with all her invaluable time and resources instead of looking at her ugly face in the mirror What a WITCH!!!
