Elton John and David Furnish welcome a baby boy, born on Christmas

elton_john_4_wenn420418

This story just made me so happy. Elton John, 62, and his partner of 17 years David Furnish, 48, welcomed a newborn son this Christmas through a surrogate. Little Zachary Jackson Levon Furnish-John weighed 7 pounds, 15 ounces, and was born on December 25 in California. Elton and David say they plan to protect the identity of their surrogate and will not reveal further information about her. Here’s the story from US Weekly:

Sir Elton John and David Furnish have become parents to son Zachary Jackson Levon Furnish-John, the couple tells UsMagazine.com exclusively.

The baby boy, who was born Dec. 25 in California via a surrogate, weighed 7 pounds, 15 ounces.

“We are overwhelmed with happiness and joy at this very special moment,” John and Furnish tell Us in a joint statement. “Zachary is healthy and doing really well, and we are very proud and happy parents.”

This is the first child for John, 62, and Furnish, 48. The couple married in 2005 after 12 years together.

A rep for the couple has stated that they intend to protect and respect the privacy of their surrogate, and will not be discussing any details relating to the surrogacy arrangements.

That’s so nice! I remember when these two were heartbroken that they weren’t eligible to adopt an HIV positive infant from the Ukraine that they bonded with while on a charity visit to his orphanage. That was just over a year ago, and David and Elton vowed to support the infant financially even though they couldn’t adopt the boy. (They didn’t meet the requirements that adoptive parents be married, since their union isn’t recognized under Ukranian adoption law, and no more than 45 years older than the child they’re adopting.)

Back in 2001, Elton spoke about how much he adored his godchildren, of which he has 10 including Brooklyn Beckham and Damian Hurley. He vowed to leave his fortune to them, and it looks like he’ll have another heir now. Congratulations to Elton and David on their new arrival! That’s got to be the most memorable Christmas.

Almost 20 years together is a great record for any couple! Jazz, I can assume that the negative comments on popeater are about them being a gay couple. They should be judged on their merits as individuals and prospective parents – not by their sexual preference. Based on Elton’s past costume selections, I would say : bring on the Baby Dior! This kid’s gonna need alot of clothes.

A very sweet story. And how sad about the Ukranian boy they couldn’t adopt. Any family is better than no family. All a child needs is loving, caring people. It doesn’t matter the age, gender, sexual orientation, or amount of people. I don’t understand why people don’t see that.

Elton is one of my favorite musicians and I have always respected him for his compassion – Ryan White a great example. I am so happy for this lovely couple. If they decide to adopt a grown woman I am available. What amazing parents they will be.

“He was born a pauper to a pawn on a Christmas day”

I was wondering if they’d throw a “Levon” in his name somewhere…I think that’s awesome that they did.

    Much happiness to this family!

    @ Praise!

He shall be Levon! I adore that song! How sweet that Elton’s own son would be born on Christmas day. (When the New York Times said God is Dead, and the War’s begun…)

If they wanted a baby so badly, why didn’t they just adopt one from England or America? Sure it’s a shame that they couldn’t adopt the little baby boy from the Ukraine, but there are plenty of other babies in the world who are in need of a good loving home. And I’m sure other countries would be ok with their marriage as a same sex couple.

However, that might have been a good thing for the little Ukraine boy because they’re also too old to be parents now. Elton is grandfather age. When that kid is 10 years old, Elton will be in his 70′s and David will be nearly 60. I can’t imagine they’ll be very hands on and be able to play with him very much. The nannies and personal assistants will do all that for them and I won’t be surprised if he grows up to resent them in some form.

Zach: Daddy, lets go to the park!
Elton: *sat in his rocker* Not right now, daddies are tired. Why doesn’t nanny take you, you can go play with her.
Zach: But daaaaad, you never come!!
    Elton: *snores*

There’s a reason that 45 year gap is enforced in that Ukraine orphanage.

Kids can be ignored by a parent who is any age. And someone’s activity level is not predicated on youth. I’ve seen some pretty lazy 20 year-olds, and some active, vibrant older people. So good for Elton and David. Hopefully they have long lives ahead of them. They will appreciate every minute with this child, and I wish them all the best!

Yeah, I’ve seen many crappy younger parents over the years. Often, they are not grown up enough to put their kids first when they have them too young. These two are stable, both financially and in their relationship. This child will be fine.

    Congrats! Love this whole story.
To all of you who say he is too old, do you honestly think tomorrow is promised to anyone?
That boy in the Ukraine has AIDS, you don’t think these men could have afforded him the best possible life? I will bet he languishes in that orphanage today, just great for him!
Let them alone to love this boy to bits, and fear not, he will be beloved and cared for his whole life, you have to know Elton and hubbie have dear friends and family to pick up any slack.

It goes to show that if someone as famous as Elton can keep this a secret then a few certain d list reality nobodies can keep some things private too.
