Kate Middleton gets the Warhol pop-art treatment: cute or unflattering?

tatler

Wow, the British press is really trying to make Kate Middleton into an instant pop icon, aren’t they? This is the cover of the new Tatler Magazine, in which an artist has done a Andy Warhol-style pop-art treatment to a portrait of Kate Middleton. She should seriously consider dyeing her hair green – it would look really good!

Anyway, in other Kate Middleton news, the Palace has released some new details about the wedding. It’s not what I was hoping for, though. Do you know that Kate STILL hasn’t released the name of her wedding dress designer? You know she likely has one picked out already, and they are probably already working on it. Ugh. Instead, we get some new details about how Kate is going to ride in a carriage on her wedding day.

Kate Middleton will arrive by car and leave by Royal carriage when she marries Prince William on the morning of April 29.

In new details released Wednesday from the prince’s office at the palace, Kate – who turns 29 next Sunday – will wed William, 28, in a service set for 11 a.m. at Westminster Abbey.

The service will be followed by a reception given by the groom’s grandmother, Queen Elizabeth, and the day will conclude with a private dinner and dance at the palace for many of the couple’s family and friends. William’s father, Prince Charles, will serve as host.

The night before the wedding, the bride-to-be will stay overnight in central London at one of the palaces, either Clarence House or a private address, a royal source tells PEOPLE.

According to a news release, MIddleton’s route to the service will take her past some of London’s most famous sites: The Mall (before Buckingham Palace), the Horse Guards Parade, Whitehall and Parliament Square.

The Dean of Westminster, the Very Rev. Dr. John Hall, will conduct the service, and the Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr. Rowan Williams, will marry the couple, the palace confirms. The Bishop of London Dr. Richard Chartres, a friend of Prince Charles and his sons, will give the address.

When they are married, William and Kate will exit to cheering crowds and take what the palace calls “a Processional Route in a carriage procession” to Buckingham Palace.

PEOPLE has learned that the guest list is still being finalized and the invitations have yet to go out.

I thought the Archbishop of Canterbury was talking smack about Kate recently? Nevermind, I think was just some random bishop who was bitching about them. Anyway, here’s hoping Kate’s dress doesn’t wrinkle easily, because it sounds like she’s going to be taking the scenic route to Westminster.

    anne hathaway-ish. not altogether bad.

  2. trollydolly says:

Go Kate! It’s just fantastic that the daughter of an ex-airhostess and an ex- flight dispatcher will be marrying the second in line to the throne! One in the eye for the snobbish haters. HA!
She’s absolutely stunning and has behaved with the utmost poise and REAL breeding, unlike those who denigrate her because her parents are in “trade”.

  3. lucy says:

OMG! WTF! They really must hate her to do that to her. She’s pretty but this treatment doesn’t work for her. They should show more respect for the future queen of England(just kidding)

  4. WhiteNoise says:

Lord, ‘People’ are on their knees already.

That Tatler cover is quite ridiculous.

  5. KateNonymous says:

This treatment doesn’t work for anyone–it’s universally unflattering, no matter how iconic. (Also, at this point, incredibly uncreative.)

  6. samihami says:

Meh, it’s been done too many times. It’s unoriginal. I like her just fine and think she is very pretty, but this does nothing to flatter her (or anyone else).

  7. Belle Epoch says:

Agree with #5. Dumb idea. Plus it works better when shadows are erased instead of darkened!

  8. brin says:

Ugh….why? I want to hear all about the dress, too. That’s what it comes down to…the dress (and the title).

  9. Super Awful says:

The lower right corner makes her look a bit like a super perky Joker.

  10. ab says:

she has lovely hair but methinks she is NOT going to age well…

  11. LOVE ANGELINA says:

LOL Its the most vanilla and boring image I have ever seen the pop art treatment given to. Its not Kate’s fault but its dull and not flattering. I mean whose idea was this? They should be embarrassed. I think if they wanted to go with a art inspired idea then they should have done some kind of computer generated portrait, which she will more than likely have done anyway for real but it would have suited her. Classic portrait on a canvas is this girl’s personality and to do some funky arty stuff with her image is like…all wrong.

  12. Yasmine says:

WOAH. That’s just cruel. I’m not sure anyone could flattering in that kind of treatment. And I gotta agree with poster #5, it’s uncreative. You can do that on your mac in 5 seconds.

Also, sure, ‘you go girl’ for getting him in the end, bla bla bla. But I still think that the Vanity Fair piece I read ‘Wills and the real girl’ showed him to have been such a douche to her. HE’S the one who should be lucky that she stuck around.

  13. Tess says:

This isn’t bad compared to the commemorative plates or coins (can’t remember which) that were recently released showing her and William….she looked awful…don’t know why such an unflattering image of a very pretty girl would be chosen.

  14. Jo 'Mama' Besser says:

But her family is very, very rich and has been for a while. I just don’t see the woman who begged for donations for castle renovations a few years back and (stop all the clocks) won’t be spending as much on this wedding as the public had originally hoped would be amenable to the idea of inviting a Ma & Pa Blue Collar into her family. Simpsons universe Bill Gates is right, you don’t get rich by writing a lot of cheques–you get the plebes to do it for you. Hopefully this marriage will help them out a bit with that inbreeding situation, but beyond that, I’m not really seeing how this little dynasty isn’t just an Only Fools and Horses redux with received pronunciation. Oh, well. Luckily, I can do a little grumble about not finding a single one of these people appealing as well as thinking them to be a profoundly useless drain without ending up in a gibbet or as Colliseum Giblets. What’s the worse that could happen? Someone could say, ‘lighten up’, or some misguided soul will reveal that he despises by excellence (*wink*) by calling me a jealous hater. That likely isn’t what’s going on here.

You may now return to your regularly-scheduled genetic de-individuation.

  15. LolaBella says:

I like her and thinks she’s nice-looking, but this treatment is NOT flattering.

The only people I have ever seen who looked good with the treatment are Marilyn Monroe and Che Guevara.

However, she does look better here than on the commemorative coins/mugs etc.

I’m excited for all the wedding details; can’t wait to hear who’s designing her dress.

  16. Lynnie says:

She’s a cutie. I would, though, like to see her with shorter hair. It’s in great condition, but too long and, well, shapeless.

  17. Johnny Depp's Girl says:

I so dont think so with magazine cover.. shes not a pop star..

I think she’s cute too. I cant wait to see the Royal wedding!!!

  18. fanny says:

She is a fine looking young woman but the Warhol treatment has given her jowls. Not good.

  19. KLO says:

    no. just no.

  20. JulieM says:

Boring pop art take on a boring woman. Perfect!

Could not care less what her parents do or how they made their money. Good for them. She’s the one who hasn’t done anything for the last 5 years. No career, no real job, nothing but cling.

  21. beth says:

to be honest, i think kate middleton wants to be queen of england, and all that goes with it, more than she wants william. im not saying she doesnt love william, she probably does, but that’s not my point.

well, this is celeBITCHY, and i can be a bitch if i want to.

  22. Bill Hicks is God says:

“The Firm” is just as much a circus (perhaps more so) than Warhol’s Factory was. How appropriate, really.

  23. Patricia says:

She is growing on me. I wish all the best to them. I respect their attempt to be “normal”. But GOD that hair kills me! What is that thick lump of long bangs that hangs by the side of her face???If she wants it long she needs to layer that shit up so it can grow out gracefully. Otherwise she needs a shorter cut – again with some layers. I think that would take years off her.
Once they started doing this AW treatment to dogs it was long past it’s use by date. Tatler needs a good kick in the bum – this is just stupid.

  24. Crash2GO2 says:

She looks like she’s softening the makeup quite a bit…

  25. truthzbetta says:

Warhol’s dead and last century, I think they’re on to something. She’ll be in a “carriage.” Exactly. Di was great but she became a celeb and really the death knell to the whole thing.

What’s more antiquated, the concept of people being born or marrying into becoming your legal and social superior, or that dusty old brothel Hef’s running?

I’m calling these two pretty much the same thing.

Two institutions that seem to know they shouldn’t be trying to hang on to this century.

  26. sacha says:

i heard that it came a time he wanted to end the relationship but got blackmailed by her, something like’if u break up with me,i’ll…’,so i personaly thing that a prince should marry a princess.which girl would not cross her finger by the hope to get in the arms of a prince?yhe story of the prince of spain should teach you guys that nowadays things don’t happen for real love.he could have found more better.

  27. kiko says:

@sacha i though he loved his wife and they married because of that..

  28. L says:

Looks like People got their sources wrong; Kate’s taking a car to the church not a carriage.
