Natalie Portman’s friends worry her baby-daddy is “the ballet K-Fed”

bm2

There’s a hilarious story in this week’s In Touch Weekly all about how Natalie Portman’s friends are “concerned” that Benjamin Millepied is simple “the ballet K-Fed”. While this has been discussed openly on blogs – I think LaineyGossip used a very similar turn of phrase – it’s interesting to see tabloids really go after Natalie’s baby-daddy like this. Is it a sign that the tabloids don’t respect Natalie? Or is it a sign that Benjamin really is sketchy?

Does Natalie Portman have a Kevin Federline situation with her choreographer fiance Benjamin Millepied? Friends of the actress are concerned that Benjamin may not have the best intentions.

“He’s a self-promoter who’s loving the spotlight,” says a friend of Natalie. “Her friends are worried she’s in over her head.”

“I don’t think he even thought twice about leaving his girlfriend – which isn’t a very good sign of character. He seems like a social climber who was all over Natalie the moment they met.”

Amongst Natalie’s friends, Benjamin is inviting comparisons to another dancer-turned-star-baby-daddy: “They’re calling him the ballet version of K-Fed!”

“Unfortunately, he’s the father of her baby, and her pals think that she wouldn’t be getting married if she wasn’t pregnant, and that it’s all going too fast. They’re nervous that Natalie will wake up one day and wonder what happened.”

[From In Touch Weekly, print edition]

It’s looking more and more like Benjamin is going to get the blame if and when the whole thing goes up in flames. But Natalie is old enough to know better – so what does it say about her IF Benjamin is such a K-Fed-esque tool?

In other Natalie news, she gave an interview to People Magazine about her baby superstitions and whether she’s going to work after baby: “I’m very superstitious. I’m very Jewish that way. We don’t do that.” “That” being talking about what the gender is and plans for the nursery. She also says: “I’ll be out of the public eye after [the baby’s born],” Portman said, adding that she will be laying low for a while and will just take any future career opportunity “as it comes.” But… but… she’ll have to make the money! Ballet K-Fed must be supported financially!

    “Ballet K-Fed” Hilarious.
If I was Kevin Federline I would start charging every time people use his name like this.

  2. brin says:

Bet Natalie is pissed at the comparison.
Kind of interesting, though, an uptown version of K-Fed.

  3. Leticia says:

He and she seem to be equally pretentious, so they may be a great match.

His tattoo looks like a circuit board diagram but I’m sure it represents something very deep.

I wish he would shave his feet.

  4. soso says:

I’m sorry but Benjamin heads the NY Ballet, handly social climber! in Ballet he is the cream, basically on top.

  5. lez says:

    She is annoying.

  6. thals says:

is it me or does it tatoo look like one of those old fashioned toilets that had the tank on the wall above your head?

Or is this just because I am a Brit?

  7. CeCe says:

I think he’s gross. Even if the rumors aren’t true, she could have done much better. I find it funny how she promotes herself as this true intellectual yet makes these foolish decisions. Funny how this “private” person isn’t so private anymore. Trying to convince yourself that you stand behind your decision?

  8. Rita says:

I have a jaundice eye when it comes to intelligent and wealthy people getting “whoops pregnant”. We all know what causes that, so what are they thinking or are they thinking? As for Mr. SpandexFedex, I’d watch him real close.

  9. Happymom says:

Wow-with “friends” like this, who needs enemies, right? He does have a career-he’s a choreographer. While he wouldn’t make “big” money, I think comparing him to KFed is pretty unfair.

  10. Hautie says:

Can someone explain what that tattoo is about?

Well she has not married him yet. So maybe Natalie will just live with him.

It should not take too long for the ugly to show up in his character, if he can’t use her for PR.

Since Natalie is basically saying she will be out of the movie game for at least a year or so.

How can he use her for his own needs if she is locked up in the house? This will not please him.

  11. gloaming says:

He looks like a 70’s porn star in the first pic.

  12. ESC says:

    @ Rita

    “Mr Spandex Fedex”

Love it – much better than “Ballet K-Fed”

  13. Kaiser says:

Gloaming – Right? I picked it for it’s “The Joy of Sex, 1973 Edition” quality.

  14. Isabel says:

    Boo! I hope not!!

And yes, Kaiser, I definitely found a similar photo in a sex book tucked between my dad’s psychology books as a kid.

  15. EdithP says:

That tattoo looks like a Picasso version of a pirate with a goatee and an eyepatch.

  16. nycmom10024 says:

The beauty of being a Principal dancer with a major (even some smaller companies) you get to live beyond your means. Your actual salary does not match a “Prinipal” in Hollywood, but the perks are pretty good, reception balls at the start of the season. Receptions when you perform in other states. World class travel in sometimes great hotels.

Unlike a dancer for a singer, people actually speak to you as if you had a brain.

Candace Bushnell has found happiness with Charles Askegard also at NYC Ballet.

Maybe her “friends” are jealous? Maybe the story is bull? Maybe they intend to be engaged forever? One thing that is unlikely is Millipied will probably never destroy his body in the same way KFED did.

KFed appears to be a good dad to his kids, so why are we still bitching about him?

  17. normades says:

The tattoo is of a Bauhaus album cover

  18. Lindsay says:

Holy crap that makes me feel old as hell that none of y’all know it’s a Bauhaus tattoo.

  19. bros says:

I guess we have to start calling him Mille-p-Fed. or “Get those Benjamins Millepied”

  20. Rita says:

    @Lindsay

It shouldn’t make you feel old…just better informed.

  21. Scarlet Vixen says:

That first picture reminds me of Burt Reynolds pics from the 70s–way to Smokey and the Bandit’ for my taste. And he has grody hobbit feet! Wear some socks or slippers or something!

Am I the only one who doesn’t see the K-Fed comparison as so bad (or very accurate)? I never really saw K-Fed as the pursuer in that relationship–it always seemed like it was BritBrit chasing him and he was like, “Why the hell not? She’s f’in Britney Spears! Who wouldn’t?!” And by all accounts it seems K-Fed is a better parent to all of his children than Brit is.

  22. Solveig says:

@Leticia & Hautie, that tattoo is Bauhaus’s (the post-punk English band) logo, or maybe it’s their label’s, don’t remember.
If he is really a douche, I think that Natalie is smart enough to realize it sooner or later (maybe).
Is marriage really that important in the US if there’s a pregnancy involved?

  23. EarthWindFire82 says:

Let’s hope that she doesn’t get dogged. She’s a really level actress and she seems to be a really cool chica. She’s smart AND she has a sense of humor (as indicated by The Lonely Island rap she did).

It does seem really fast, but maybe getting pregnant made her decide to settle down. It does happen. And he may not be riding her coattails. It just appears that the media helps this happen. Think about it, when she announced she was pregnant, the media went NUTS trying to learn about her fiance.

So…the MEDIA is helping Brother Millepied.

Millepied. Sounds like that bug I stepped on the other day.

  24. LindyLou says:

“I wish he would shave his feet.”

Leticia I almost spewed coffee out of my nose when I read that!!!! LOL

  25. dread pirate cuervo says:

Do you think Fancypants Portman would associate with people who know who K-Fed is?

  26. normades says:

    haha, his feet are hairy!

  27. Nanea says:

@ # 4 – soso: BM is one of 12 male principal dancers at the NYCB, so he doesn’t “head” the company all by his lonely self.

There are bigger names and better dancers/choreographers among those 12, and the world of dance isn’t solely the NYCB. There are several companies around the world that have equal or better among their dancers. I know what I’m talking about, I am a former dancer myself.

I don’t think they will last very long, poor kid!

  28. DGO says:

I hope her taste in men is better than her taste in maternity wear.

  29. Johnny Depp's Girl says:

    Very odd Tattoo.

Sounds like a douche to me.

  30. guesty says:

He seems very brooding with a mysterious vibe imo. When guys move this fast it’s definitely time for some side-eye.

  31. mary jane says:

    good points nycmom!!

  32. sapphire says:

Personally, I would hit it-several times. And dancers always have messed up feet. Don’t look or tell him to put his socks on.

  33. REALIST says:

No, Benjamin is NOT K-Fed. More like Baryshnikov. Benjamin is the creme de la creme in American ballet.

Jessica Lang had a child with Baryshnikov, who could blame her? Talk about hot bodies, male ballet dancers have them.

But remember, the reality is , ballet is brutal. Although it is much harder on women than men; even so, male ballet dancers have a limited amount of time to be on top of the pile as principal dancers, then they have to work their way down the ballet stardom ladder as they get older. Their bodies give out on them eventually, too.

So, if Benjamin wants to get his face out there for a future in acting, why not? “White Nights” was apparently an inspiration for him when he was young.

Oh, and I think it is so sweet the way Natalie is “nesting”; let’s stop spoiling it for her!

  34. becky says:

agree w scarlet vixen on the Britbrit thing, that’s exactly how i saw it. and she was in prime shape back went she met him! with Natalie we don’t know who pursued who, maybe it was mutual…
but k-fed was no social climber, he stayed pretty true to his roots and yeah, the way he stepped to the plate when Brit was sick, people shouldn’t use his name like that…
if i was a guy, rich or not, and Natalie or Brit pursued me, id be pretty damn easy! whos better than natalie? maybe mila is more chill, and equally as beautiful…

  35. Leticia says:

Thanks for telling me about Bauhaus. I learn something knew everyday thanks to you guys.

I still think he has werewolf feet though…

  36. Sandy says:

Smart Women, Bad Choices. Nothing New. She’s cute. I hope its all speculation.

  37. Tiffany says:

I can see why here friends would go to press about this. Natalie made a lot money from the Star Wars films (she mentioned it in a interview) so if it goes south, she would ger hit hard or at all. I glad that she is healthy and happy but she turned me off after those films came out and refused to give autographs and her reason was the most pretentios piece of crap. And it was just downhill after that everytime she spoke.

  38. Bama says:

How does being an actress make one a “true intellectual”? She went to an Ivy League school, yes….so do many other non-geniuses. I just get a kick out of her “I’m so serious” faces. I’m truly amazed that she deigned to let someone touch her nether regions.

  39. Iris says:

Idk.. I think they’re kind of a good match. I mean, he’s a ballerina, and so pretentious and cultured enough for Ms. Harvard. I think she’s a pretty smart girl, so she knows what she is getting into

  40. Diane says:

I love how “K-Fed” has become an adjative.

  41. Aries_Mira says:

This is called “dealing with the consequences” come what may. I really hope that they are faithful to each other and remain happy, but in a worst-case scenario, they will to accept what happened and move on.

  42. cookie says:

I really don’t see why people think this guy is sketchy. He works – at the top of his game even. He’s ambitious also, that is a good thing! So what if he doesn’t earn as much, she must have a pre nup in place anyway. People bag him for leaving his girlfriend for her but they weren’t married or had kids together so I really don’t see the issue.

  43. Sakota says:

When are Hollywood people going ot understand, that outside of Hollywood, peopel make lots of money too? Hollywood isn’t the social center of the world either. Not everyone thinks dating an actress/actorr is a major thing, Marilyn was a mistress to JFK, while Jackie was the WIFE and from SOCIETY.

Porthole needs to stop making her Harvard education a shield against the vapidity of her career.

  44. Missfit says:

Now I feel like he’s definitely going to dump her at a Wal-Mart when she’s 8 months along, lol. And if she goes cooky and shaves her head, at least she’ll look cute without hair. 🙂 But I wish her good luck. But if real life is imitating art and she is “the other woman”…then Karma might just come back and bite her in the ass.

  45. LadyLupton says:

He’s got proper hobbit feet. That’s all.

  46. littlemissnaughty says:

She’s a grown woman with an Ivy League education. And while that doesn’t necessarily say much about someone’s ability to make smart decisions, it’s her life. If she screws up, at least she will never have to work 3 jobs just to support her kid. I really don’t worry about her. If she lets herself get knocked up by a guy who ditched his girlfriend for her like a hot potato, that’s simply not a very smart decision but oh well. Love is blind and dumb, right?

As for the guy … well, who knows. At the very least he’s not lazy. Making it that far in ballet, he couldn’t be. That’s a hard job. Let’s hope he social-climbed as far as he can, because really, how much further could he go?

  47. constance says:

positives i see to this transaction:

black swan pushed past the “scandal” of the directors private life to get positive attention for its merits as a film.

the director got lucky that this diverted attention off of him and onto the star crossed lovers of privilege.

the story of these two blowhards? not so exciting i think.

  48. eja102 says:

    what a compliment.

Kfed turned out to be a great dad, and picked up the pieces for his kids when his ex wife really needed him to.

  49. LOVE ANGELINA says:

I am quite confused as to how anybody could make this comparison. First off Kfed is not social climber, he is a gold digger. He left his last girlfriend who had a great job on the show Moesha for Brit who clearly makes way more money. 2nd Ben is successful in his own right. Ben was HIRED to work on the Black Swan, he is the brain behind the dances.

This tabloid drama because Nat is in the spotlight and poise to win an Oscar, her star has risen now she is tabloid fodder.

Also Nat has never presented herself as snobby and those of you assuming she is stuck up strike me as rude. Nat is educated and being educated doesn’t make you stuck up or pretenious.

  50. melinda says:

Maybe we can call him “ballet-fed”?

  51. javagirl1 says:

lol @thals! Now that you mention it, yes.

  52. lrm says:

i thinks he wanted a baby daddy with certain genes-he’s french; he’s an athlete/artist….she got what she wanted.

i dont think it will last at all, but i’m not sure hewill be k fed.

I see him more like madonna choosing lourdes’ dad.

that said, of course he likes/wants the publicity and opportunities. There is no way for a psyche to separate that level of experience from his genuine attraction to natalie, whatever that may be.

She’s more like kate hudson than britney. she wanted a baby daddy.

also, i have friends who are very jewish-as in actively practicing, moderate. And they talked about gender [wonder what it is kind of thing-and ‘i have a feeling it is a boy/girl]…and, they did the nursery in a neutral manner-even had blue for what turned out to be a girl-gasp! so I don’t know what she is talking about as far as that superstition.
I do know my friends would not name a child after a living relative-that jewish tradition they did follow.

  53. Liana says:

Also Nat has never presented herself as snobby and those of you assuming she is stuck up strike me as rude.
    ***********

I beg to differ. Have actually met her, lived near her, and worked on a set with her. She absolutely CAN come off as quite snobbish and pretentious.

However, I do wish her nothing but the best and a warm and happy future with her baby and husband to be.

PS: she’s not fond of being called Nat.

  54. jc126 says:

I can’t speculate on his character, but women choose bad guys ALL the time.
My hunch is now that Gael Garcia Bernal is with a woman and has a baby and a 2nd on the way with her, NP has decided she’s going to give up on him and settle down with this guy. Or settle, as the case may be. She was with GGB a while, on and off.

  55. Fishlips says:

“He’s got proper hobbit feet. That’s all.”

LadyLupton (#45), I laughed so loud and hard at your comment! HAHAHAHAHA!!!

  56. Heatherrr says:

This is one of those times that im happy im broke..

ain’t NO ONE after my five dollars!

  57. Crash2GO2 says:

“He’s got proper hobbit feet. That’s all.”

    😆

  58. MorticiansDoItDeader says:

As an Ivy League Grad, I can assure you that pretentiousness is practically a prerequisite for admittance to an Ivy League University. Although most of us will never achieve the level of success that Portman has, many Ivy Leaguers act as if they’re the next big thing. So while I do believe Natalie has an heir of superiority, I also believe she earned it. While the rest of those entitled, pseudo intellectual Ivy Leaguers have not.

  59. Sabinal says:

Being in ballet is nowhere compared to being a movie star. Outside of NYC, at least.

Millipied is rightfully being looked at funny because he was not single at the time of filmmaking. I remember hearing about him having a relationship with a ballerina then all of the sudden he drops her for an “icon?”

It takes two to tango, but if neither Millepied nor Portman thought this would not be in the headline gossip they are more naive than I thought.

  60. truthzbetta says:

“Ballet K-Fed” — hilarious since whoever posted it here. I like that tabs know the deal.

Comparison is so accurate. She got knocked up by and is marrying the movie’s backup dancer. I mean choreographer who begged and hustled for a few lines and screen time.

And he dumped his live in at the time, and has been using the whole thing for his career b/c nobody knew who the hell he was until he impregnated his way up the food chain. She’s gonna have to pay him child support for 18 years now after the trainwreck of watching him try to use her for fame destroys this union.

Which makes Portman less the genius than she tells us she is. She’s making Britney style life decisions now. Ouch.

  61. Snackysnaxx says:

I really want to be an asshole and correct some people’s spelling on here.

  62. Blah says:

Bama: “I’m truly amazed that she deigned to let someone touch her nether regions.”

    Ahahahahahahaha…

I don’t wish her any ill, but man, is she one of the dullest, most pretentious actresses out there! Which is exactly why I think they make a good match.

  63. Ivy says:

This is completely absurd. It’s not like Benjamin Millepied is a bloody background dancer. He’s a principal dancer with one of the world’s best ballet companies, which makes him a current giant in the ballet world. He’s an accomplished choreographer as well, and a smart man. This is his first child, and he had a serious long term relationship before becoming involved with Natalie so it’s not like he goes from girl to girl. Natalie likes him and seems excited about having a baby. People should just leave them alone.

  64. paisleydog says:

I just thought his feet were dirty.

  65. Jerry says:

I give it 3 years. Natalie will be the biggest Female Film Star after She wins the Oscar in a couple of months. She is very close to Her parents and they will ace him out if they suspect He is a phony. Which they might feel so already. Her star power will push him out of the way eventually. She will wind up married to a Doctor in a few years.

  66. BRE says:

Whats the big deal here? She fell in love and got pregnant and they want to marry? Some people are together for years and their marriage only last a couple. My parents knew each other 3 months prior and they have been married over 45 years. It’s 2011, not 1950, women get pregnant out of wedlock, who cares.

  67. Chris says:

I think ballet became a bit of a fad for Natalie while she was making Black Swan and ballet K-Fed is just part of that fad. So I don’t think Natalie has started the relationship on a very firm foundation and has jumped in the deep end too quickly.

  68. GirlyGirl says:

When he gains 100 lbs and records a shitty album start to worry.

  69. Sarah says:

Dudes, you can’t just land at the top of the New York City Ballet with mere self-promotion. You have to work your ass off every single day of your life–for the rewards of shitty pay, rare time off, and frequent injuries, even at the Principle rank. Benjamin Millepied didn’t just fall off the turnip truck here; he earned his place before Natalie Portman came into the picture. A “free ride” to stardom is never something you expect or desire to get as a dancer. It’s all about the work.

  70. lachica says:

has anyone considered that she might break his heart? why is everyone portraying her as the automatic victim?

  71. kelly says:

I always love it when conceited cows click their fingers, get with some douche who’s just flicked his girlfriend like she was belly button lint, and then expect happy every after. The beginning of that descending arc of inevitable karma.

Handsome is as handsome does, I always say. Up to a point. Personally, if someone I fancied ditched their steady partner with heartless haste just to be with me, I couldn’t want him/her any more. How much do I love not being young and dumb any more?

  72. Lia says:

Um…ewwww. She couldn’t do any better than THAT?

  73. Clotho says:

The tattoo design was used by the band Bauhaus but the band got it from the German school of design by the same name founded by Walter Gropius. The design dates back to the early 1920’s.

  74. Mizz Tickles says:

I was watching some BJ and the Bear and Millipied, in that first pic, looks a little like Greg Evigan

  75. jen says:

Wasn’t there a story years ago- like celebrity friends that would “shock” you- that revealed that Natalie Portman and Britney are close friends? Seems rather ironic….

  76. Mika says:

How does a Harvard grad “accidentally” get pregnant?? How can you be so stupid?

I know he’s a ballet dancer and is supposed to be all class, but he is bad news and I hope she doesn’t marry him. I can see a good co-parenting arrangement, but not a good relationship for them.

  77. GradStudentEatingHotPockets says:

Maybe Natalie is BOOK smart and not common sense smart? I mean hell, smart people make dumb mistakes all the time.

I have a very high IQ and I walk into the corners of white walls all the time. Does that make me stupid? Not really. Just makes my face/toes hurt.

  78. fwozbo says:

I don’t think they will ever get married.

  79. CB Rawks says:

    @Mizz
He’s not pretty enough to look like Greg Evigan. He wishes he was Greg Evigan. 😀
I wish I had some Greg Evigan. Greg circa My Two Dads for Hot Guy Friday?
    Yes, I am drunk.

  80. CB Rawks says:

    @thals
    It totally does!
    Dunny tummy.

  81. Lady D says:

Snackysnaxx. Grammar police are banned from Celebitchy.
    Leticia….hilarious.

  82. Athena says:

Doesn’t Brad Pitt have a similar tattoo on his back that BK-fed has on his stomach?

Strange how happy she seems though and how she nearly cried talking about in her acceptance speech. I hope this ends while for her now that there is a child involved.

  83. Liana says:

I have a very high IQ and I walk into the corners of white walls all the time. Does that make me stupid? Not really. Just makes my face/toes hurt.
    *********

Yeah, I went to a prestigious school for the arts (NYU/Tisch), have a fairly high IQ (for what THAT matters, which is little to nothing) and that doesn’t stop me from being dopey at times.

I’ve not cared for Natalie, but you know what? Having a kid changes and softens people, so I’m lightening up on her. I don’t think she’ll end up like Paltrow and be an insufferable mom.

  84. Camille says:

Bama and others talking about her education: Didn’t she only major in acting or whatever anyway?
I mean its not like she went to Harvard to become a Doctor or whatever, was it.

  85. Portman's a twit. says:

Really, Natalie Portman, nobody cares about your baby daddy, your lucky win in a very weak actress pool, and your upcoming bastard.

  86. Lilia says:

She wanted a baby. She found a father. She is almost 30! Guess she started to feel that she should have a baby! Also her father is a fertility-specialist. Guess he told her not to wait much longer.. Seriously! I Think this is what happened! The father of her unborn Child could basically have been anyone! She’s just in that age. Heard the clock ticking…
