Queen Latifah loses 20 pounds

Jennifer Love Hewitt isn’t the only celebrity to lose weight recently – Queen Latifah, spokeswoman for Jenny Craig, has lost 20 pounds since January. She isn’t planning to lose any more, as this is enough to help her stay healthy.

“I’m not caught up in how big or small I am,” the actress/singer, 38, tells In Touch of her weight-loss strategy, “Some people say they’re a skinny person trapped in a big girl’s body and I’ve never seen myself like that. I just feel like I could get a little healthier, so why not?” she says. Queen was inspired to diet by a sobering statistic. “I had read that if you lost 5 percent of your body weight, you could cut your chances of things like heart disease in half. Jenny Craig mentioned the same statistic to me, so we connected on a health level.”

In Touch

Queen Latifah says she is happiest at around 195-210 pounds, but declines to say what she weighs now. It’s so great she is doing it for her health and not just to look good in a bikini. For most people losing only a small percentage of your body weight is what a doctor recommends as it is sustainable. Yo-yo dieting can be very damaging to your health.

She’s only lost 2-3 pounds a months, which seems like a sensible rate of weight loss. She doesn’t mention any exercise as part of the program, although I’ve seen pictures of her working out, and her presumed partner is a trainer. She always looks so beautiful and glowing, and she looks much slimmer than she did in the film Chicago. Congratulations Queen Latifah!

I love this woman!! She kicks ass!!

  2. geronimo says:

Difficult to see any difference between the two pics, she’s looks fab in both and pretty much always has and does and is!

  3. RAN says:

That’s not true Grettm, she’s a beautiful woman and (quite frankly) looks like she lost more than 20lbs – which is the first thing I thought when I saw the two pictures.

I love her too Jessica – always thought she was pretty cool and down to earth.

  4. Lola says:

I love her attitude. It is rare to see her without a smile. Good for her. Losing weight is damned hard.

  5. Blackalicious says:

I love her. The only ‘controversy’ she ever caused was the constant ‘is she or isn’t she?’ rumors about her dating her trainer. So what? She’s a cool person and supposed to be really nice in person too.
I laughed so much watching her in that ‘Bringing Down the House’ movie with Steve Martin. It was not the best movie but she was a riot. I can forgive her for appearing in the awful ‘Mad Money’ with Katie Bot Holmes:)

  6. Embee says:

Looking Good Queen! I adore this woman. She is so relate-able (and I am such a WASP, sigh) that whenever I see her on the screen in a show, interview–whatever–she just captures me with her femininity and grace. I am so happy to hear she takes her health seriously because I want to be watching this incredible lady perform for a looooong time!

  7. Bodhi says:

She looks great! Good on her for losing weight the right way

  8. Jen (the other one) says:

She does look great, she has a great attitude. 🙂

  10. Alecto says:

Big or small she’s one of the rare women that look absolutely wonderful either way. Sigh…She’s gorgeous.

  11. Kaiser says:

She’s one of the most beautiful and inspiring women in Hollywood. I love her so much… Go Queen!

  12. Ling says:

You could achieve 2-3 pounds a month by putting your mailbox at the far end of the driveway.

  13. Lauri says:

Grettm: who cares if she’s gay? That’s her business.

She looks like she’s lost more than 20 pounds in those pics. She really looks good.

  14. Jessica says:

Who cares about her sexual preference??? The Queen rules!!

  15. Brandlyn says:

i saw her on the jenny craig commercial this morning, she looks amazing! she has always been beautiful and at least since shes knocked some weight off, she still looks like herself! Go Queen!!! 😛

  16. NHchicky says:

I love Latifah. She’s obviously not going to be stick thin, nor would she look good if she was! She’s fabulous in every sense of the word. It’s only recently that being zoftig was deemed a “bad” thing.

  17. california angel says:

Yay! Score one for big girls who lose weight just for themselves! In the last year I lost 40 pounds and have managed to keep it off for 5 months. It’s not easy at all, obviously, but it is much easier to exercise and eat right when you don’t feel forced to do it.

  18. boobaloob says:

    Grettm = TROLL. Go away.

  19. Nan says:

    What a gorgeous face!

  20. Exiled2hp says:

GrettM. You must be just the most amazingly perfect person to ever walk the Earth. What kind of messed up remark was that. Maybe if you lost a 100lbs, you’d disappear.

    ’nuff said.

  21. abbizmal says:

I love the Queen. She seems like a great person. And I agree with most everyone here, who cares about her sexual pref, as long as she is happy and keeps smiling? She looks great though she always has. Love live the Queen.

  22. ER says:

She really is one of those larger women who carries her weight phenomenally well! Her skin is tight/firm and she looks amazing. She also seems to have such a great personality and is really a dynamic actress and when you put it all together she’s a gorgeous person, inside and out!

  23. Aud says:

Good for her, because she’s healthier. Oddly tho, I like her bigger. Not only do I think she looks better, but I think she’s a tremendous rolemodel for children these days, growing up seeing size 0 models and believing it’s healthy and realistic. QL shows these kids you dont have to be Barbie to be Beautiful

  24. Aspen says:

She’s BEAUTIFUL! I love everything I’ve ever seen about this woman. She’s done a good thing for larger women again…by demonstrating that diet and exercise aren’t just for getting skinny. They’re for staying alive and feeling good, too, and there’s no shame in being a bigger girl as long as you’re healthy and do your best to take care of yourself.

She’s amazing…and Curvation (her endorsed lingerie brand) makes INCREDIBLE bras for us chesty girls.

  25. enchantress says:

Queen Latifah is The Bomb. Beautiful, stately, so self-possessed – gains 20 pounds, loses 20 pounds, who cares?

  26. TINKERLOVE says:

Queen I love you reguardless of what the tabloids have to say, you are the GIRL…..

  27. czarina says:

I think it’s great that she lost weight only for her health, and she isn’t sitting around being anxious about losing the next 10, 20, 30, etc. lbs. This is a talented women totally secure in who she is who doesn’t feel she has to apologize for anything.
Absolutely a great role mode–not just for kids, but for ME too!LOL
I wish I could be more like her (sadly, minus the talent!)

  28. vdantev says:

    good for her 🙂

I love “the queen”, however, I don’t like nor respect Rob (is it?)Marshall? Rob has no feel for anything, all he feels for is his “gayness” and his creative eye ends right there. I would believe Dana could do whatever but never have i ever seen anyone more uncomfortable in a role than what she was cast in Chicago. It was embarrassing. Obviously latifa cannot relate to “Ma Raineys”, she is just too removed generationally, she hasn’t any clue from that era at all. And that is what i cannot stand about Rob, for some reason hollywood thinks he’s IT, HE’S JUST TOPS, ETC. And when the “gay” hollywood gets that blind, it’s time for alot of discomfort, they are no longer judging w/ their creativity, now it’s all about who is the new hot one. That award show was all about Chicago, chicago chicago, so much so, i went to see it and found it to be crap and also proves some plays are meant to be plays and belong on stage and stage only. What’s happened to Rob? maybe it proved it is a one time only. What about Mammet? isn’t it time to begin recognize real talent? Rob Marshall, shame
