Talkshow hostess Ellen Degeneres, 50, and her longterm girlfriend Portia de Rossi, 35, were married on Saturday night in an intimate ceremony at their Beverly Hills estate. Their guests numbered just 19 and included close friends and family. They both wore Zac Posen, with Portia in a pale pink backless gown with a tulle skirt and Ellen in white pants, shirt, and vest. During the ceremony they exchanged handwritten vows.

“Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi were married tonight in an intimate ceremony at their home in Los Angeles,” their spokesperson tells PEOPLE exclusively.

DeGeneres, 50, and de Rossi, 35, both wore Zac Posen and exchanged rings by Neil Lane during the Saturday ceremony. Their big day also featured arrangements by L.A. florist Mark’s Garden.

The intimate ceremony was attended by 19 guests, including DeGeneres’s mom Betty and de Rossi’s mother Margaret Rogers (who flew in from Australia for the occasion), who witnessed the couple exchange handwritten vows.

The couple have been dating since December 2004. DeGeneres announced her plans to wed de Rossi during a taping of her talk show in May after California’s Supreme Court ruled a previous ban on gay marriage to be unconstitutional.

[From People.com]

US Weekly has a photo of the couple hugging and posing for cameras. They are said to have taken photos with their two dogs and Ellen’s mom. Both of their mothers were there, with Portia’s mom flying in from Australia for the occasion.

The small ceremony is a big change from Ellen and Portia’s earlier plans for their wedding. Ellen quipped that she had even invited their gardener, and their guest list was rumored to be over 200. Ultimately they decided to keep it less complicated and just share it with a few friends and family.

Congratulations to Ellen and Portia and best wishes for a lifetime of happiness together! I want to see more wedding pictures than just the faraway blurry one that’s out, and we’ll see if they release some clearer ones. Either way, it’s their special day and it’s up to them if they want to keep it private.

    Congrats…I’m so happy for them!

  2. Orangejulius says:

I wish them well. Just don’t think it’ll last any longer than any showbiz marriage.

  3. Tammy says:

I hope it lasts and I hope that they continue to be as in love as they look. If only all of us could be so happy.

  4. CB Rawks says:

Aww! I love Ellen! Much love and best wishes to them.

  5. OXA says:

I wish them Joy and Happiness.

  6. K8 says:

If you’re not supposed to say congratulations to the bride, then… um…

Anyway, I’m happy for them! 😀

  7. Kris says:

I was so happy when I read the news! 😀

But those USWeekly comments are rough. I guess the LGBT community getting married is the same thing as someone marrying an animal or child.

  8. Oriana says:

    Congrats you guys!!!!!!!!!!! 😀

  9. brista says:

Yay! I like them both and I wish them well. And I hope the hateful people stop passing around their petitions.

  10. ugh says:

This is gross – unnatural and “not right”. Before you all blast me with hate posts – I happen to like them both. But this kind of “marriage” is not sacred nor holy. It is wrong. Love the sinner, hate the sin.

  11. Tammy says:

oh please, no marriage is sacred or holy anymore, get over it.

  12. nl says:

these two seem nice, yay for them 🙂

to ugh, no “blasting” from me, however, when you live free of “sin” then, i imagine, you can cast all the judgements you want. ‘Til that day, lets try and celebrate peoples life choices!!

  13. vdantev says:

    good on them

  14. Nouvel says:

“Ugh” and Kris give me a break. Some people just think they are better than others…They are holier than holy….Condemning people without even knowing them personally…..DO NOT IMPOSE YOUR “RELIGIOUS” BELIEF ON OTHERS!!! Just live your own life and prove to others that you are holier than holy….that you are doing good to your fellowmen….Let judgement be done by the God you believe in….DO NOT JUDGE LEST BE JUDGED!!!!

The holy scrolls were interpreted by men in the 1600’s. Back then the church had enormous rule and was intent on keeping that rule. It was an extremely corrupt and ungodly institution back then. When you consider the King James bible (the original interpretation) you seriously have to consider the source!!!! Whereas the Hebrew god as depicted in the Old Testament is not necessarily a loving god (more like schizophrenic!), the Christian Jesus representing God is a god of love, mercy and compassion. I doubt a loving, caring God cares that much about Ellen and Portia’s sexuality but more about the love they share. It’s difficult enough to find real love between a man and a woman (look at the divorce rate) so if two people do find love, perhaps it’s best not to judge.

  15. Kris says:

Ugh- Your screename sums up exactly how I feel about your post.

  16. Carena says:

I never have and never will understand why anyone gets all uppity about two women or two men marrying. I mean, really, what business is it of yours to say it is or isn’t right?

  17. gracie says:

    Carena…beautifully said!

It’s between the two who marry. If they are in love and wanna do it…who should stop them??

I don’t get why people get all weird about it either.

  18. ann says:

What ever it makes them happy. Even though I might disagree with the whole idea about women and women as acouple and men and men being a couple. I feel it is not good to see some thing in public and of of them is seeing same sex couples effection in public

  19. Little Degenerate gets what she wants. Big age difference. We will see how long this lasts.
    I give it 3 years tops !!

  20. WTF?!?! says:

    YAYY!!! Many happy anniversaries!!!

  21. Jill says:

yeah “ugh”, a sacred and holy marriage would be one of those hollywood quickies where the couple’s been together about 10 minutes and the marriage lasts about five. don’t understand why anyone cares who gets married and who doesn’t. how is it hurting you?

congrats to ellen and portia– they’ve been together a while now so you figure it has to work out, right? one can hope?

  22. Victoria says:

Just saw some beautiful wedding pictures on another site. Portia was beautiful!!!!!! I loved her Pink dress, and she looked like an angel. Ellen has never look as happy, and I hope she shows her viewers some video of this on her show. CONGRATULATIONS!!!!

  23. Dee says:

I am extremely happy for both of them. Yes, Portia looked absolutely ravishing and Ellen looked wonderful also. What struck me is how happy the two of them are together. They are so happy!!! God bless this marriage and may it be forever!!!!!

  24. KPod says:

The way that Ellen looks at Portia in every photo of them together says it all: She knows she hit the jackpot!

  25. Ron says:

Oh Ugh….You’re OVERWHELMING lack of intelligence is showing. For the severely mentally deficient, it always goes directly to marrying farm animals. This is a marriage between two consenting loving HUMAN BEINGS you twit.
How can you honestly expect any intelligent human to take you seriously in any forum after such a feeble comment. If you truly wanted to defend the sanctity of marriage you would be crusading to ban divorce.

And CONGRATULATIONS to my friends Ellen and PDR

  26. ugh says:

    Ron,

When you have to resort to namecalling you really don’t have much of a defense. I don’t hate gays, but same sex marriage is not a true marriage — and it never will be in the eyes of God.

  27. Nan says:

Ugh believes in God. Fine w/me. I kinda flow in between. I believe there is some kind of order, something going on in this Universe we all aren’t sure about yet. You can believe in traditional God or not but none of us knows for sure.

But if there is an order to the Universe or God then they would be part of a plan. Maybe people are homosexual to help keep the population in check. I’m saying that could be how God designed it. Nothing wrong w/gay marriage…just think of all the money the courts & lawyers will rake in when divorce time comes a-knocking. Hell, hetero women have made such a big deal over weddings in our society that everyone wants a piece of the fantasy. Here’s another industry that will prosper…always.

  28. DLR says:

It is too bad people like ugh, ann, and everyone (et al) that opposes same-gender relationships and marriages are under the warped delusion thanks to religious bible-thumpers that marriage is specifically reserved for two people where one is a male and the other is a female.

Such a belief is an utterly wrong kind of discrimination along the exact same way an African-American used to be banned from sharing the public transit bus with Caucasian people. It’s an archaic belief and society needs to move forward from previous beliefs.

Well, I guess when the son or daughter of ugh, ann, et al comes to them in the future, happiness beaming on their face, and tells them they are in love. That the person they are in love with is someone of their gender.

Oh, I can just see it. Ugh, ann, et al will throw the child they have loved and nutured for years and years out the door and tell them they are the worst and foul thing to ever walk the planet and to never darken their door again.

Maybe they won’t throw them out of the door, but what about this. Ugh, ann, et al will tell their homosexual child they are not allowed to fall in love with someone of their gender, have that someone drop to their knee in front of them and ask them to marry them, plan a wedding, and get married to someone that chooses to witness their life.

Oh, heaven forbid they actually procreate and have a child within a legal marriage! That would be the utter sacrilege for ugh, ann, et al to get a grandchild out of such a vile and foul situation!

Way to go ugh, ann, et al for being such supportive parents. 😯

  29. Kris says:

LOL. I mentioned that other people were comparing the LGBT community getting married to people of the same sex, to farm animals and children.

There’s no use in trying to put some sense into people like you. It’s just not worth it.

  30. vdantev says:

Ugh: But this kind of “marriage” is not sacred nor holy.

50% of all marriages end in costly bitter angry divorce- so tell me again how ‘holy’ it is?

  31. vdantev says:

Ugh: and it never will be in the eyes of God.

God is dead, your hatred drove him to suicide. 👿

  32. DLR says:

    Re: Kris

You are quite right per your comment that “There’s no use in trying to put some sense into people like you.”

That’s the problem with “people like you” (presuming those people are like ugh, ann, et al). They just don’t see the bigger picture beyond whatever the Bible, Torah, or Koran tells them.

By the way, did you know the Torah discriminates against people with disabilities, saying if one cannot read or speak the Torah (or whatever it is that is needed in order to do the bat/bar mitzvah or convert to Judaism) they are not allowed to be Jewish. Where’s the outcry in that?

But oh no, when same-gender couples in love want to get married the uber-conservatives all band together under the religiously right and almighty banner that only a male and a female can marry because only a male and a female can procreate. Therefore marriage is soley for the purpose of procreation and those that cannot procreate have no business getting married.

Omg! I just realized something. My husband and I do not have children. We chose to be child-free before we got married. Does that mean we are “foul people” that are disobeying the laws of God, Allah, Jehovah, whatever deity, and shouldn’t be allowed to marry because we chose not to procreate? 😮

  33. Snowblood says:

@ Vdantev – ” God is dead, your hatred drove him to suicide. ”

    Best.

    COMMENT.

EVER. EVER!!! 😆 That was – perfect. The perfect riposte to the Ughs of the world. You fukkin’ rock, Dante. A LOT.

  34. Kris says:

DLR- Oh you don’t have kids?? That’s an abomination and you are going to hell for it to those people. You are absolutely right though. Everything you mentioned is correct. I just don’t understand how they can say stuff like love everyone and don’t judge people, yet they do, and with so much hate.

Good for you and your husband though, really. I don’t want to have kids either and I am glad that some people don’t think that all women are for is to procreate.

  35. jaundicemachine says:

Good for them! They make a sweet couple.

  36. geronimo says:

Saw pics elsewhere, they both looked beautiful, if blurred. Hope they do release some official pics.

  37. tp Vero says:

This Portia chick has a look on her face I don’t trust. I have no idea why that is. She kind of looks like a young Julie Newmar playing Cat Woman. Ellen looks too much in love, like she has lost her center and her good judgment. Emotional love can do that to you. I hope they signed some sort of contract about money and property.

Celebrity relationships for the most part are high school romances with wrinkles. Next non-news story please….. Has anyone lost their home because the present American Republican administration isn’t doing such a good job at keeping the home fires burning?

  38. Anna says:

Congratulations to Ellen and Portia. I am so happy for them. I hope they have a lifetime of happiness together!

  39. Ethan says:

    Congrats!

I hope for Ellen’s sake that her partner is indeed a lesbian and not a gold- digger that actually likes men (like her former girlfriend…).

I wonder if we will see more gold-diggers that opt to go with rich and older women rather than men.

  40. Modesty says:

Why oh why do people see themselves as separate from the animal kingdom? We’re all animals…

It is not unnatural to be gay — not for animals of any kind, human animals included! Jeez!

Congrats to Ellen and Portia — I think they make a lovely couple.

  41. Lauri says:

@Ethan-I don’t think that’s an issue. Portia has been “out” as a lesbian for many years. She was with Ringo Starr’s daughter for a long time prior to hooking up with Ellen.

  42. Nan says:

Snowblood, I’m still laughing eternal over your Cooney comments…

  43. jaundicemachine says:

Doesn’t God love everyone? Who are we to judge what is right and what is wrong?

I think it’s cute that they had a little “family” portrait. Our boys – er, cats – are generally included in most “family” events, as well. Much to their chagrin . . .

  44. daisy424 says:

The way Ellen looks at Portia is priceless. She obviously adores her. Isn’t that what anyone wants with their partner, man or woman?
    Congratulations 😛

  45. javagirl1 says:

My brother in law is gay and is getting married in Tahoe this weekend. My husband’s always been ok with his homosexuality, but the rest of the siblings have not. They pretty much cut him out of their lives when he came out. One brother even went so far as to try to “save” him by telling him he was going to burn in hell if he didn’t change. Now everybody is older, and they realize they can’t change him and just want their brother in their lives. And he wants little to do with them for the way they condemned him in the past.
Because being a religious homophobe is intolerant, narrow-minded, and is as bad as being racist.

  46. Sprmcandy says:

Ellen is so lucky to have wed such a Beautiful & Gorgeous lady as Portia. Good luck to them both.

  47. RReedy says:

I LOVE Ellen and wish her happiness. I never opposed gay marriage: I think they deserve the chance to be as miserable as all the other married people I know.

  48. RAN says:

Best wishes to the both of them! I’ve always liked Ellen and think she deserves to have some of the happiness she openly shares with others. Congrats to them both

  49. Maritza says:

By the look of the pictures it seems to me that Ellen loves Portia more than Portia loves Ellen.

  50. Kris says:

This is a day late, but Nouvel, you owe me an apology. NOTHING in my post was about religion.

  51. Keese my cakes says:

    Awwwww….Congrats!

  52. Mindy says:

How can anyone tell that Ellen loves Portia more by that picture. You can’t even see Portia’s eyes because she is looking directly into Ellen’s. GEEZE

  53. mona says:

    its wrong and gross

  54. Snowblood says:

(re-posting w/ word change to avoid auto-moderation program)

Ah yes, THIS thread – there’s a fantastic post by Nan here that I’d been meaning to point out. Something for the “it’s wrong and gross and a sin” folks around here to chew on:

” I kinda flow in between. I believe there is some kind of order, something going on in this Universe we all aren’t sure about yet. You can believe in traditional God or not but none of us knows for sure.

But if there is an order to the Universe or God then they would be part of a plan. Maybe people are [gay] to help keep the population in check.

  55. truthful says:

okay first of all marriages still can be sacred and holy. My parents have been marriedd for 25 and have never cheated or seperated. As well as my grandparents, aunts, and uncles. Also who are you to say what is holy in God’s eyes. I do believe that you are not God so don’t say anything as long as you don’t know anything.

  56. FL mom says:

I have always loved Ellen. She has a positive and sweet vibe, reminds me of my own lesbian friends and family….smart, humble, witty, generous, funny, and so much more. That Portia thing looks like a gold digger to me. I have never seen her look Ellen in the eye, or look less than devious or sullen. Ick. Ellen, look out.

  57. Cyanide says:

I agree with some of the comments that say that Portia just looks like a gold digger, there’s something weird about her face gesture towards Ellen.. I just hope it lasts forever and that it doesn’t turn out to be a hot mess of a marriage like most in showbiz… I read that Ellen didn’t make a pre-nup saying that it is “unromantic” 😯 and that if you are goin with that mentality to a marriage it wouldn’t make sense…. What doesn’t make sense is her blindness… I mean…it is a 15 year gap between them… when Ellen is 70 Portia will be 55… I mean now everything is cute and in its place but by then… it won’t be pretty… that is if they last that long… and by the way please!!! Marriage won’t be less “holy” if it’s between same gender people… plus… what’s holy anymore… stop the freaking hatred… 😕

  58. Voni says:

    Congratulations!
May the 2 of you spend a 100 years together in bliss!

  59. darlene says:

    Ellen,

First let me say, I love your show and you too girlfriend. I’m 64yr young and I have been reading all this nonsense these homophobic people have to say. My daughter is 46 and has been gay 46 yrs. She and her partner has been together 16 years. No one knows that without marriage, if something happens to one, family can take everything the two have worked for and partner left out in cold. We are blessed to have her partner in our lives. She will get everything my daughter and her worked so hard for and it goes the other way. I have never wrote on a blog before. Hope it makes sense. Oh, my daughter is a Christian and saved. God doesn’t make mistakes so don’t anyone say Gay is a choice.

  60. sandy says:

what a pretty picture! so in love 🙂
and what does being gay/lesbian have to do with anything? why would you care unless you want to have a relationship with that person…………

  61. jack hoff says:

I like Portia on Arrested Development, but ellen….If I was a female guest on her show, It would be like she was checking you out and want to much your rug out, eh ya know?

  62. Sage says:

I still do not believe Portia is in love with Ellen – Ellen looks at her like a sick puppy, it is really annoying. Portia is biding her time until she can grab the pot and run and what do you want a bet she’ll wind up with a man? She is bi – not gay and I do not trust her – watch out Ellen, just because you have it Legal now does not mean she has to stay! She will dump you in 2011

  63. Dann Dean says:
