Donnie Wahlberg and his wife file for divorce

Donnie Wahlberg, the brother not famous for his physique but for being part of the original 90s boy band New Kids on the Block, is getting divorced from his wife of nine years Kim Fey.

Donnie Wahlberg and his wife, Kim Fey, both filed for divorce on Aug. 13, court documents in Los Angeles and Ventura County, Calif. show.

Citing irreconcilable differences, Fey is seeking sole physical and legal custody of their two sons – Xavier, 15 and Elijah, 7 – with visitation rights for Wahlberg.

Fey, 39, is also seeking spousal support and attorney’s fees from the New Kids on the Block singer, also 39. It wasn’t immediately clear what terms Wahlberg is seeking.

People

People reports that the couple separated in January.

I find it heartening that the couple both filed for divorce on the same day, like they are going to split amicably for their children.

What I find coincidental is that their separation comes rapidly on the heels of the New Kids on the Block reunion. Is this reunion less of a celebration of the music, or even a cash-in on 90s nostalgia, but more of a mid-life crisis? The band members are all in their thirties and forties now, which is just about the right time for that kind of thing. I imagine Kim is seeing her husband desperately attempting to jam himself into his old stage costumes, suck in his gut while lip synching, and make his old lines for groupies sound fresh. While she stay at home with the kids.

Perhaps it’s a good time to go for the reunion tour – Donnie needs to earn some cash for spousal support.

  1. I dont guess they were married when he was first famous or touring, so maybe its just the demands and stress of running a tour that their marriage isnt used to. Especially if they have kids, for him to suddenly not be home and doing as much of his share, would probably be a big strain….

  3. What bothers me is that Donnie is actually a really good actor - that was him in “The Sixth Sense” and the “Band of Brothers” mini-series. WTF is he doing with a NKOTB comeback? You worked with Steven Spielberg, for God’s sake!

  4. i have seen them twice on the today show live( since i work there) and will again on the 29th because paula cancelled. trust donnie doesnt need money because they still get royalty checks. and anytime they show any of his movies, he gets a check. touring and all this they are probably not used to and just grew apart. he is cute as hell in person

  5. I agree Kaiser that he is a good actor. He was in ‘Ransom’with Mel Gibson and Gary Sinese, that’t the first film that I saw him in. Perhaps he doesn’t need a NKOTB comeback but its just something he wanted to do for fun and the timing happened to be right.

He was my favourite NKOTB member. Then Jordan then Joe. Me and my friends used to write fanfiction about them before I even knew there was such a term. Ahh nostalgia. lol.

  6. Yea Kaiser, remember he was in Boomtown too. A very good show that NBC canned without giving it much of a chance.

  7. Just to clarify something Donnie and Kim met when he was still touring with the New Kids 90/91 so she knows what it means to have him going on Tour etc.

  8. Celebitchy is too harsh on NKOTB. Remember, people in the 30s who were once fans of NKOTB have buying power..as well as the common sense to make the right decisions. Yes this maybe a nostalgia tour..and yes we would like the nostalgia of being 14 years old..what’s so wrong with that? If NKOTB wanted to cash in on this they would have done it a long long time ago. They obviously don’t need the cash. Trust. Mid life crisis? Doubt it. Then Madonna is beyond midlife and her music sounds like ASS.

  9. Seems like they’ve been together for a looong time if their eldest son is 15. The divorce is a shame, but it does sound like they’re trying to be grown ups about it all. Kudos to them.

  14. Yes, midlife crisis. First he purchased a motorcycle and then he cheated with someone in Canada. I hope that girl is worth it Donnie- becasue with Kim you had a REAL life and REAL love. You were done when she married you and not only did you betray her, you betrayed your two boys. Shame on you for wasting almost 18 years of her life!…Yes, I’m the fly on the wall and I witnessed some stuff personally- this is all I will spill though. In due time it will all come out.

  15. True, he does not have a gut. He actually looks ggod for his age- body wise- he does have major hair loss and many wrinkles- and yes I have seen him upclose and personal a number of times- I thought he was a nice guy up until I found out he cheated with some skank! Then I found out he is jusy a guy like the rest of them….such a shame!

  19. The reason the divorce was on the heels of the tour was because the break up with his wife drove him back to music… at least that’s what I read.
