Phil Collins breaks Paul McCartney’s UK divorce settlement record

This is one of the rare times when a musician probably doesn’t want to top former Beatle Paul McCartney. Ex-Genesis front man Phil Collins reportedly was ordered to shell out a whopping $46.68 million to his now-ex-wife in their divorce. That’s $1 million more than one-legged harpie Heather Mills got from Sir Paul. And this isn’t Phil’s first time cutting a big fat check to an estranged wife, either.

Phil Collins has handed over £25million to his third wife in the biggest-ever divorce payout by a British showbiz star.

The massive settlement beats the £24.3million Paul McCartney recently handed over to Heather Mills and puts the £12.5million which Chris Tarrant settled on ex-wife Ingrid in the shade.

Genesis singer Phil, 57, has given the huge cash sum to Swiss beauty Orianne Cevey, 35, after just six years of marriage and two children.

And it is not the first time Phil has had to give away large chunks of his cash.

In 1994 he gave his second wife Jill Tavelman £17million after famously dumping her by fax.

It means he has now paid out more than £42million almost a third of his £140million fortune.

A music industry source said: “Marriage has certainly not come cheap for Phil. He has now made two of the biggest divorce payments in showbiz history.

“At least no one can accuse him of leaving his ex-wives short. When you compare what he’s paid out relative to his own fortune the figures are enormous.”

Orianne even got a much bigger percentage of Phil’s fortune than Heather Mills got from Macca. The divorce payout came to light in the latest accounts for Phil’s personal management company, Philip Collins Ltd.

He met Orianne on tour when she was just 22 and he was still married to Jill. They set up home in Geneva and were together for five years before their lavish three-day wedding in Lausanne with 300 guests including Elton John and Eric Clapton.

[From The Mirror]

I don’t really feel sorry for Phil Collins, but I do think it’s rather disgusting that his wife feels that she’s entitled to half of his earnings just because they were married for six years and she pumped out a couple of his kids. Phil made that money on his own without any help or support from this woman- why does she get to keep any of it, outside of child support? To make matters worse, it’s not like Phil can just go out on tour and recoup this loss- the singer has said that he has permanent hearing loss in one ear due to an ear infection, and will probably never tour again.

I really think it’s time for Britain to examine its divorce laws. I also think Phil should take a permanent vacation from marriage at this point. But please, whatever you do, Phil, don’t write anymore sappy songs about being dumped. Why should we all suffer because of your mistakes?

“I can feel it coming in the air tonight…”

It just sounds like a lot of money because of the weak dollar, right?

Seriously, no fool like an old fool. But it sounds like they, at least, kept it civil. *applause*

And maybe from now on, Phil should just trying dating and shacking up with women. As a wise man once said, “You don’t have to marry every mistress.”

Harpie’s true enough but was “one-legged” really necessary? And please don’t tell me that she does in fact have one leg. I realize that.

Throwing It All Away should be Phil’s personal theme song. No wonder Genesis got back together and toured…he needs the bucks.

Why would anyone marry this Mr. Clean reject?

Daisy, this whets my appetite too re the possible skeletons. Music aside, he’s not known to be the nicest of people so it’s interesting that he’s coughing up without as much as a whimper. Could be he’s just a generous guy and wants to keep things private but……??

CiCi, MSat was being generous and gentle just calling Mills the “one-legged harpy;” that one-legged harpy certainly deserves far, far FAR far more colourfully derogatory nick-names than THAT. And she is definitely a modern, real-life harpy, gimp and all.

I agree, I don’t see why she should get so much money when he earnt it all on his own. She should get lots of child support money and nothing else.

She’s also in line for a huge fortune from her parents apparently… so not quite a gold-digger of the Heather Mills ilk.

When are these pudgy ol’ dodgers going to learn? He met the girl when she was 22? And he was HOW OLD? C’mon… did he really think she loved him for his looks and personality? I realize that all women (or men for that matter) aren’t gold diggers, but when these old farts can’t/won’t consider dating a woman who is mature and of a similar age — they sort of deserve what they get. Don’t tell me an older woman wouldn’t have been interested in Phil – but see.. he had to go for the young chick – cuz he’s THAT good. Whatever…

I like his music too Daisy, but… I’m sorry to be controversial… he deserves the loss. What a fool.

I’m terribly digusted with that moon-pie-faced Swiss vomithead bitch who took Phil for all that money, FUCK that coont. I can see it coming in the air TONIGHT, bitch. Yeah. Right at your rusty ball-peen hammerhead-lookin’ FACE! Hateful cow.

Fukk the Swiss anyway, you know? Make up your mind, Switzerland! Pick a language, pick a side! “Oh, I want to be French, no, Italian, no, German – oh… and i’m just – so NEUTRAL, can’t decide what I think is right or wrong, but look at the TIME I can keep! Look at the CUCKOO CLOCKS! Look at the way we handle CASH!! ALL kinds of cash, we don’t care – you got a banana-republic drug czar needs cash hid? No prob, bring it. Got shipping containers’ worth of gold from wiped-out European Jewish families, bring it! We won’t say a thing ’cause we’re NEUTRAL, but we LOOOOoove money.” Fukkin’ Swiss, man.

Yeah, fukk Phil Collins’ coont ex-wife. Her and Heather Mills oughta get together and go bowling.

Don’t trip, RAN, suddenly I’m awaiting moderation, too. I tried to clean my post up of all auto-mod trigger words, but it didn’t work. It’s pretty shitty when this happens to us, ’cause we all know our posts get completely buried when we get modded automatically like this; by the time it gets lifted, everyone’s long, LONG gone out of the thread.

Well now he knows his kids will be provided for and perhaps it was worth it just to shut her up and get her out of his hair. Can you write off a divorce like that? Will it bring you into a lower tax bracket? There must be some benefit in it.
