Johnny Depp to perform in small venue in South Florida with his band

Johnny Depp is planning two performances with his old band, The Kids, in South Florida next weekend. He’ll be taking part in the Shiwla Witkin memorial concert at Club Cinema in Pompano Beach, Florida on August 29th and 30th. Proceeds will benefit the Sheila Witkin Foundation, which supports various charities. Witkin passed away in April, 2006 at the age of 66. She was a staple on the South Florida music scene in the 70s and 80s as the manager of the band “Tight Squeeze” and moved to LA in 1988 to work for Sony.

Tickets are available through Ticketmaster for $32.50 for one night or $55 for both nights and you can learn more on the Sheila Witkin Foundation website.

Johnny Depp, 45, was a high school dropout and a musician working odd jobs before he got into show business. In the early 80s when he was playing with The Kids his then-wife, makeup artist Lori Anne Allison, introduced him to Nicolas Cage and the rest is history. He’s continued playing guitar throughout the years and has been a guest musician on songs by Oasis and Shane MacGowan of The Pogues. Depp has also played guitar on the soundtracks to his films Chocolat and Once Upon a Time in Mexico. [details from Wikipedia]

Depp did this same memorial concert last year in January, 2007. Here’s a video of him playing guitar with The Kids at that show: *swoon*

You know how so many of us find ourselves commenting that this-or-that actrwess or woman “looks so great FOR HER AGE,” and then we get mad at ourselves for saying that & sounding sexist or whatever? Well – O.K., this time it goes for BOTH sexes, ’cause I’m pointing out how amazing, how really damn FINE Johnny Depp l;ooks, yes, for his AGE – can you believe he’s 45, and he looks 33!

And I am sure he hasn’t had “work done.” God, what a man, how I adore Johnny Depp. Such an intereresting, talented, sensitive, pure-hearted, gorgeous, genius of a man. He is such a rare, rare specimen, there’s NO one quite like Johnny Depp.
